Hi there SB's!!! Here it is another Monday, and new beginning!! and I think I need it. DH still gone haven't heard a think since Friday, can't believe he hasn't checked in...That either means he is having a really good time, or he is really hurting. What ever. If something were really wrong, someone would call me. He should be home like tomorrow or WEd.

Eating has been kinda crazy. Did go out dancing and a little beer drinking on Sat after work, it was really fun, and I didn't didn't get too crazy, but did feel a bit of a hang over on Sunday morn. Oh yes..that is why I stopped doing that. Anyway, once every 6 mo I go out so I am good for another 6 months.

My arm is still hurting but I got some tips from lots of people on how to get rid of the pain. I will try them all. I will also get back to curves, bad arm or not. I just won't do any arm exercises on the machines, just do them in back of the machine and move my arms..I can do that, just can't use weight. To all you curves ladies..Be careful!!! All I did was jam on one of the arm exercises, (you know, push/pull really hard fast) and really messes up my elbow. When I first did it I couldn't pick up a coffee cup (empty) w/o my elbow really hurting...Anyway I will be very careful to not to go too fast andget out of control

Will eat well today w/no extra's added on. I have wI tomorrow. I did wear a pair a pants that I had not put on in 6 months..They are 16 and they really fit comfortably. I am so happy. They will be put into my repitroir of work pants..I only have like 2 doz work pants in all sizes and colors!!!

Idblone: I really like what put in your post. I copied it and will put it on my frig and read it often..It is really good.

Well better get the house clean so I can go to Curves.

Everyone have a good week, and we will talk later..

Welcome to all the newbies!!

Bye
Miata

Happy Monday

Hi All: Said goodbye this weekend to my parents, they are now settled back up North in the ice and snow! It was cold here as well today! Brrrrrrrr....back to wearing sweaters again. From all the salads and fish I have eaten over the last week and walking and visiting with my parents I have been able to keep the pounds down - feels good - will keep up the good work as well! Spoke to Deb last night and I am so glad to see she has survived the "Eli Gas Attack" - she was crying for help as she was stuck in the car on the highway with Eli who was suffering great enjoyment over her discomfort! Being over 300 miles away, I could only offer verbal support!

So, I will do my best to keep up with the Board now and catch up on all that I have missed!

Here I am.

BOB, send the wagon over now please!!!! I don't know what has gotten in to me, lately. I think that's one of the reasons I've been avoiding the boards because I know that this is the one place I have to be accountable. I've been feeling so down lately about my weight, not losing, in fact, gaining a couple and I don't know what's wrong. Actually, I do know what's wrong, my eating has not been good and I haven't been exercising or drinking enough water. This week-end I totally blew it, even went to McDonalds and had a burger and fries that weren't even that good. And I have a cold and I feel like crap. Ok, the pity party is over and today is a new day (Hello, Daffodil Principle!!!).

Jackie - so sorry about your Cats. You don't know how scared I was watching the Horns play and them being the only #1 seed left. Yikes. It's the first time they've been to the Final 4 in 50+ years!! Got any tickets you need to get rid of???

Hope everyone has a great day. Talk to you soon.

Trish

Good afternoon.

Loved all the mm's this Monday...thanks ladies. Glad to see you made it back Jack-K. The board is not the same while you are away.

((Trish)) hang in there. It's never too late to get back on track. And if you keep feeling down on yourself it makes it harder to get moving....YOU can do it! Take a deep breath....grab some water...and off you go...back on your way to feeling good and excited about your WOE.

Sabrina....wtg with the good eating and walking with your parents down. Every time I see my mom I have to be careful not to eat too much. I think some patterns are hard to break. She eats healthier now with the diabetes but still has soooo many goodies and is always trying to get me to eat more.

Miata...I think it's super you had the chance to get out and have a good time. I think these once or twice a year outings can really relax you and lift you up emotionally.

Grin + Share it...wtg not being a slave to the scales. For some of us that is an impossible feat.

Zanne...you go girl..five days is AWESOME! Keep up the good work.

Monet....I think you will be suprised at how well you do cutting back on the starchy carbs. With all the walking you are doing. I just know the scales are going to reward your efforts...as well as your measurements.

Agape...thanks for the encouragment. You too are doing wonderful!

Susan...you go staying away from the no-no's...I have no-no's in the oven and counter right now...I did taste the batter...I'm bad. :)

Welcome Jane! I don't find this way of eating hard except when I cheat or don't allow myself to have a treat from time to time. I snack on almost any raw veggie you can think of. Sometimes if I am extra hungry I eat a teaspoon of peanut butter...or grab a slice of cheese or lunch meat. I love the trisquits but can't control myself. Sometimes I dip cucumbers in salsa or homemade guacamole dip.

Idblond...super staying 100 percent OP...I don't think I do that very often..okay I know I don't.

Howdy to Bob...Beth...Deb...Toni...Wendy..TV....and all the other names I am missing....

Love,
Crystle

I hate vegetables!

I posted this morning because I am thinking of starting SB and you were all so helpful with your responses.
I was wondering....if I hate vegetables am I going to be able to do this? I will eat salads with cukes and tomato's etc but I do not like any cooked veggies. I can force myself to eat green beans but that is about it.
Any suggestions?

Man what a crazy day. Off one day and you have work enough for a week. Had to organize a pizza party for 250 people on Thursday. Thought I was going to have another week, but has to be this week. So that took awhile.

Don't they know I have to catch up with this board. The nerve of them.

Off to home to walk and workout. I did sneak in a little workout at the hotel. The TM wouldn't work so I rode the bike and did a little bit on the machine. Nothing like the usual but better than nothing I guess.

Zanne, We ran into snow during our trip and I sure was sick of it too. Good job on your exercising. Now keep it up again this week. Pretty soon it will become habit. I know how busy hands can keep you from eating. Plus the benefit of getting your knitting completed.

Fillise, Congrats on surviving the shower food. I hope I can do the same for the next two weekends. But I have DD with me and I have to set a good example for her. I think by the time Easter gets here you will be so focused and ready to continue on.

Ldblond, Congrats on your day of eating OP. Yes, you can do it again today. Liked your MM. So very true.

Jane, Glad you posted here. This is a great place for info and support. Please join us. As a life time member of WW, been to goal 2 times. In my opinion, WW does not teach you how to change your life style of eating. If you want to eat candy for all your points you can. SB has definately changed my eating habits. I truly think about what I eat now. It is much healthier. You won't miss those potatoes. I love them too but don't miss them at all now. One day you can have them back if you do it sensibly and mindfully. You can have sweet potatoes (1/2). I snack on peanuts, cheese, fruit, veggies and dip. Read the book if you haven't already. It really is a great way of eating. I'm not a big veggie eater or fruit. But I have learned to like many now some I never though I would like but do. Give it a try.

Grin and share it. Glad you are loving the program and feeling better. Don't let that scale get you. Your clothes getting bigger and your overall feelings of health are a much better measure. Good job.

Miata, must have missed the post on your D. Where is he? Doiong good it sounds with your eating and curves. Hope your arm gets better soon.

Tranquil, Glad you had a nice visit with your parents. But glad you will be able to spend more time with us. Good job on your eating. Keep up the good work.'

Trish, come on the wagon is ready for you. You can do this, just set your mind to it. What do you want the most? I know your answer so come on. we are here to help you. Go horns!

Country, thanks for missing me and the sweet words. I could hardly stand not being on here all weekend. I tried to get on the internet in the hotel but could not get it connect right away. I need this place. Now stay away from the no-no's in the oven. Hey the batter is better then the finished product any day.

Have a great night all.

Monday Afternoon

Hi:

Taking a moment to post....

For lunch I had a turkey sandwich, mustard on rye bread...tonight, I have no idea because I have not been to the grocers! Probably pick up some salad makings and chicken or maybe some fish....

Country - Thanks! My mom is very tiny, totally opposite of me! She can eat goodies, but her blood pressure is high, so now she is more careful....

JackK - Thanks - I plan to be active on the board...I have missed being able to get on it....have a lot of catching up to do -but will probably just start fresh with this weeks posting!

Jane - Welcome...vegetables are so very important - I eat salads mostly myself - I just buy different types of lettuces and baby spinach leaves to get more out of it nutritionally....maybe if you look at the recipe board under veggies you can find something that might be tempting....

Trish - Hope that wagon comes around quickly and grabs you up!!! You have been such a good girl with so much success don't give up!!!

Miata - Hope your arm starts feeling better soon!

Sorry to those I have missed - still at work and have to get back to it :)

Hey gals -

Just checking in and catching up. I've already had my 64 oz of water today :) Its the first time I've been able to choke it all down since I re-dedicated last week. I just had to sit here and drink until the last 32 oz were gone. I'm gonna fill up again before I leave work and maybe even get 96 oz in today - That would be a record breaker for me!!

Didn't do great this weekend but much better than the recent past. DH took me to Logans Roadhouse last night for my Birthday (not til Wed, but no time later in the week). I just had to have 1 1/2 of those yeast rolls, and the cheese fries and ranch dressing - yummy. Didn't gorge on the c-fries, just a few and then grilled chicken and sweet potato.

Deb - You missed my B-day... I think my old bio is gone, so I'll cut you some slack and go out and re-do. Thats what happens when you fall off the wagon and don't catch back up until several state lines have been crossed!

Boys baseball starts this weekend. Both of my guys are playing this time. The 5 year old team is hilarious - not one of them can catch. My big one - in 11/12 yr. old this year- is looking much better than usual. I got his eyes checked before season this time and his prescription doubled again. He says that is why he is doing so much better. I guess it makes sense that if you can actually see, you can hit and catch better. Now I can just remember that before ball season every year we have to check his vision again....

Gotta run for now - Ya'll be good!

Hey All:wave:

IS THIS THE COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT???? Geez, it's just been one thing after another, nothing major, but I have a license to ***** today!

I was really looking forward to going to be real early last night so I could wake, do the board and walk in what I knew was going to be gorgeous weather. Well, it didn't turn out as planned and I didn't get to bed til late and mind you I was pooped when I woke up Sunday morning at that, then, I slept crappy-cool night out, but boy, was I sweating from hot flashes-oh, joy-oh-joy, lucky me! Woke up this morning tired, knee had a piercing pain, still sharp pain in stomach when I move wrong. It was a gorgeous day, BUT, winds were ridiculous out there, blowing like we were going to get a hurricane, but oh, the blue sky, the crisp air. I went back to bed, couldn't fall back asleep, just crawled next to ELI, my conscience going back and forth, should I go, should I not go??? I knew if by 9am I wasn't up and getting ready it would be it for me, so, I went. Thank goodness I did because it not only started my day off right, but the entire week as well. I even had a decent time of 54minutes flat:D Got home took a fast shower, had to get LAUREN to school (mind you, it's spring break and she's having to go to school), went to yoga, went to the bank, went to the post office, went to the HFS, came home, wolfed down some lunner (lunch/dinner) got back in the car, had to take MICHAEL to his friends house, that was a 45 minute round trip, had to stop at the grocery store and just now, 4:15pm, is when I finally am home, have the house to myself, and finally have some time to post a post on the board. At least I'm free for the next hour and 45 minutes, then it's back in the car and going back to school to get LAUREN. It never ends!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I'm going to get right on my posts before I find myself plum out of time here...

MONET, I swear, we must be twins! Not only do we gain alike, but I too have tried to cut out the starchy carbs since last Thursday. I don't feel the clothes getting any loser and thought maybe I'd give this a try. I find, for me, that I start to eat way more starchy carbs when I give in to legal treats, like the Aunt Gussie cookies. I tried it once before, though I can't remember the outcome. It's hard, but at least I have the fruit. Also, I find now that it helped me not want anything sweet, legal or otherwise. Don't know how long I'll do this, do miss my potpie, so trust me, it won't be for long. How'd DD'S Dr. appt go? LOL! Bathing suit, shorts, sleeveless tops -not me, not in this lifetime. Does that mean I don't have to think that motivation again???

QUILTER, here's hoping maybe the MM message with help, but if it doesn't, there's not much else you can do. You just keep on plugging along, dropping pounds and feeling better. You KNOW how your friend must be feeling as you too had stopped doing the TM, eating OP, etc and you know you didn't feel good. Unfortunately, some of our best efforts fall at the wayside, some people just have to do it for themselves when they're ready. You keep up the great work you're doing and try not to let her distract all your efforts:)

JACKK, glad to have you back, safe and sound. Sounds like you had a good time, with exception to the driving. Too bad you weren't able to locate a TJ's-if it had been within a 3 hour drive, I'd of said GO! If I have a car, a cooler and access to a TJ'S look out-I'm dangerous!!!!

ZANNE, CONGRATS on doing awesome with exercising last week - I see you did it for both of us - thanks for giving me some time off;)

FILLISE, good for you for staying OP during the baby shower. My goodness, lent, vacation and a shower - you are queen!:queen:

LDBLOND, thanks for posting that MM article. I agree with the majority of it, but for me I can enjoy 2 small bites of a dessert savoring each morseful rather than indulging in a whole slice that I will eat so fast I won't even taste it! and I can eat an orange instead of a candy bar and be satisified. well...that's a bit hard for me to agree with:^: I can the orange bit but would much rather have a candy bar, but 2 bites,no way:nono: that would never hold true for me, just one bite and I'm a gonner, better no bites than any for this one! Congrats on getting through yesterday being 100% OP, here's hoping you have another good day today.

JANE, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign3.jpg You posted on the right board, not that your first post wasn't on the right board, sometimes it takes me a little bit to get beyond this board on a Monday morning, but honestly, someone would of replyed to your post, no matter where you put it within the SB area:D I have to tell you, I've been on WW on and off since I was 12 (almost 30 years) and I'll lose a few pounds initially, but then I stall, no matter how 100% OP I am, it just doesn't work for me. There's not one plan out there that works for us all, unfortunately. This one works for me, with great results. Many people have even done SB along with WW, SB rules using the WW points to keep track of intake. It's a very easy WOE to follow as well as healthy, as WW is. It's actually great if you like to snack a lot. You can easily eat 6 meals/snacks a day, better for blood sugar levels. My suggestion would be to get the book from your local library, as well as a book titled EAT YOURSELF SLIM by Michel Montignac (hopefully library has it, hard to find since it's OOP elsewhere, but not impossible) and also go the this site which has a great overview of SB:http://prettyimpressivestuff.com/sugarbusters Also, ask lots of questions, we're all more than happy to help answer them. You'll find quite a few gals on the board goes to Curves. Oh, talk about not eating veggies...I'm the worst on the board, I think. I even posted a veggie challenge last week to see if it would help me, we had a poll the week before about veggies - needless to say, I failed miserably. Trust me, you can do well on SB without them, but really, we do need to eat them!!! BTW, where are you from??

BOB, LOVED that MM message you posted - even printed it out!!!!

GRIN, as mentioned before, the SB book can be confusing and misleading, you'll love Montignacs book when you get it, ask AGAPE what she thought about it! Portions really depend on you and your weight and goal weight. You should try to get approx. 40% of your intake from carbs, 30% from fat and 30% from protein. If you want, you can e-mail me with your stats and I can give you my personal recommendation about portions that you should eat. You are smart to not be a slave to the scale, it's not good and it can really mess you up, trust me, I speak from experience. You mentioned how the scale can determine your mood, well, here's something you should read that I have posted and reposted many times (it's on the RECOMMENDED READING BOARD):

That Stupid Bathroom Scale!

"For a man is slave to that which has mastered him!"

Imagine. You wake up one morning after getting the best night's sleep you've had in too long of a time. You feel well rested and your face shows it. In fact, you are pretty sure that you have never looked better (at least not as far back as you can rummage to mind at these wee hours). You got a raise the day before, and a promotion to go along with it. As far as you are concerned, if the Grinche stole Christmas this year, you probably wouldn't even blink twice. Your bills are paid - a month in advance, your entire family adores you, and your friends are fighting over your free days, (o.k., I may be pushing it slightly!). You walk into the bathroom to brush your teeth, when your eyes catch a glimpse of the bathroom scale. Everything is going so great; you can not help but wonder if your luck will continue straight down into the depth of those tiny numbers. What the heck! You pounce onto the scale, this in itself being a major step. Usually your one-toe, followed by the next-toe, followed by the whole foot process takes a good ten minutes! You look down. Wait! Screech! Another screech! This cannot, this mustn't! After all, you hardly ate a thing yesterday. You step off the scale and run over to the toilet, empty your bladder, take off all clothing, even your rings and bracelet. You try it again. You hold your breath this time, thinking that the lack of oxygen will tip the scale in your favor, hopefully before you tip yourself onto the floor! But, it is the same! You step off of the scale, look in the mirror and suddenly your heart sinks, straight into the depths of your stomach. Where did those five extra pounds come from? And as you stand gazing at your naked body in the mirror, you wonder why your stomach looks flatter even though the scale says that you are heavier. That just can't be right! There has got to be something wrong with that stupid scale. After showering you begin trying on clothes for the promotional ceremony being held in your honor. You go through about half of the clothes in your closet, feeling certain that nothing fits right, before setting on something that won't draw too much attention to your body. Gone is the feeling that "you've never looked better;" it has been replaced by a feeling of "life can not get any worse than this!' You consider the option of a sick call, but you somehow muster the strength together and head for the car. You skip breakfast, telling yourself you'll starve your body into submission. By the time you get to work, your head hurts (the effects of a painstaking hunger), and you r mood has been set for the forthcoming day. You are bummed out, so to speak, and low and behold, the first person you see is the skinny little receptionist who smiles ever so sweetly to you from behind the desk, and asks, "Did you do something different to your hair?" You smile smugly, and tell her, "No," but you are certain of what she really meant to ask: "Did you gain weight?" Can you relate to this situation? Although it may not be identical in detail, the feelings described in the opening paragraphs are most likely ones that you have experienced. Why? Because they are commonly felt emotions and feelings! It is important to note that there are millions of people addicted to their scales. They can not let a single day pass without finding out what the little flat box has to tell them. You know you are addicted if you are unable to let a day pass without weighing yourself. Or, when visiting a doctor's office, you ask if you may remove your shoes before weighing in. Chances are, after weighing yourself, this little infamous device determines for you not only what you will or will not be eating for the continuation of the day, but also, how you will feel about yourself. Let me ask you a question. After weighing yourself, has the scale altered your mood, diminished your confidence, or affected your self-esteem? If it has, then GET RID OF IT! Would you stay around a person who made you feel this way about yourself? Hopefully, not for a long period of time. If you can not bring yourself to get rid of the scale, maybe you need to re-think its power over you. "For a man (woman) is slave to that which has mastered him." The scale is similar to a hungry piranha in that it is never satisfied. If it shows a "loss," then it is never a big enough loss. "Just one more pound, or ten more pounds!" On the same hand, if it shows a "gain," then it eats away at your self-esteem and confidence. My friend, how will you ever learn to be happy and content with who you are, if someone or something is always shoving you back down, never allowing you the satisfaction of being, well, satisfied! I've got good news! You do not have to be a slave to your scale any longer! If you feel the need to lose weight, or to get in shape, then great, good for you! Those are positive factors in one's life. And in addition, you have come to the right place, because we want to help you reach those goals. But you must first learn one thing. You must use your clothing, not scale, to gauge your losses. It is up to you to make the decision not to permit the scale to sit crowned as the reigning master over your life.

GET RID OF IT! AND GET FREE!
- You, Too, Shall Overcome

MIATA, I have to admit, if ELI hadn't checked in with me I'd be worried and pissed off. You are a far more patient woman than I! I had to laugh about your pants, I have over 20 pairs of the black strechy pants, only difference is some are capri length where others are ankle, some I wear only to work out in and the others only to wear out in public. My problem is never what to wear, but more like THEY STOPPED MAKING THEM!!!! Heck, I may have to go naked one day! Egads, the horror of it all!:fr: Hope your elbow gets better soon. Good luck with your WI tomorrow!

Damn! Gotta run, have to go get LAUREN by 6pm. I will get back and catch up where I've left off and if time permits, go back over the weekends posts.

Hello again all. I was doing so many things online last week that I just never got on this board like I wanted to.

But I did pretty good. Two miles a day for six days. :) Weighed-in Sunday and I'm down to 192, so I'm happy.

It's cold here too. Too cold to walk, so I'm glad I got that extra in on Saturday. I'll go tomorrow if it's not raining even if it's cold, just bundle me & GBMB up! I'm getting into a groove where I really love my walks & look forward to them.

Jane, try yourself on raw veggies. I don't like a good many cooked, since most tend to overcook them. Cauliflower's my biggest thing in that regard. Love it raw, abhor it cooked.

I'm still not 100% on plan, but I've decided not to beat myself up about it. I'm getting in lots of low-GI foods, and I'm losing weight and most importantly exercising, so things are working fine the way they're going. :)

Monday afternoon...

Halloo!

Well, I took my daughter to the doctor. He was able to spend time with me going over the lab tests. He had to adjust my thyroid medications...one up (a good bit) and one down a hair. He increased my glucophage a good bit too, as my insulin and glucose levels were too high still. Maybe this will be it...one can hope anyway!

TV: Happy Birthday in a couple of days! That is so true about your son's vision. If he wants to play well, then tell him to remind you to get his vision checked each year! Betcha he will remember! :) Good for you getting that water in! It does get easier!

TRANQUIL: Good to see you! I sure have missed you being on board! Sounds like you had a good time with your folks, and did great eatingwise while they were here!

JACK: A pizza party for 250? Sounds like fun! And after planning your daughters wedding, it was probably as easy as falling off a log! ;) Good to have you back! Sorry the trip was all cold and snowy! I hope this is the last cold snap!

JANE: Welcome! If you like salads, you can eat them. Just include all the nutritious veggies in it that you can. Do you like fruit? You can eat that.... Glad you joined us!

COUNTRY: Did I tell you I ordered a block style target? I can't wait until it gets here! I am sticking to the no grains for a few more days, just to see what happens.

TRISH: Good to see you back! Do we need to buckle you in and lock the buckle? Just pray the traveling Detox Dungeon doesn't show up!

MIATA: Great news on the pants! I know that feels good! I hope the WI is good news!

GRIN: You will like Eat Yourself Slim. It is so much more detailed than the SB book. Reading it really inspired me. Maybe I ought to reread it regularly! :)

ZANNE: I chuckled over thinking about you on your hands and knees scrubbing. DietPower counts scrubbing as exercise, by the way!

FILLISE: I know what you mean about gorgeous but cold! It was almost too warm to go with a sweater, and too cold to go without! But clear! The red buds are blooming and the dogwoods are almost all the way open. My azaleas are opening...in another week, the front will look spectacular! I love the way spring LOOKS, but I hate the way it makes my nose feel! ;)

QUILTER: You are an inspiration, with that TM! You are gonna wow those college friends this summer! By the way, when are you coming to Spa Monet? The pool will be open in two or three weeks...though not comfortable for swimming for more like four or five! ;)

AN EDIT HERE:

DEB: You were posting as I was.... Try Black Cohash for your hot flashes. Works great! Make sure you get the standarized kind though. I got a huge bottle at Costco, and will no doubt last me through menopause! ;) I am with you on missing the pot pies! Not sure how long I will keep this up either, but I may do it for a while if I start losing better.

GBMM: Hi! Good to see you! You were posting at the same time as me!

Ok, off to fix dinner! I am going to check out the recipes on here and see if I can meet Deb's challenge!

Monday

Hello everybody. Hope everyone's Monday was a good one, (as far as Monday's go that is).

Man, everyone on here stays so busy, and I normally have nothing to do. I can't really go do anything during the week, because we live so far out and I have to be home in time for my girls to be getting home from school. I wasn't even able to get out over the weekend because everyone except for me was sick and running a fever, (sure hope I don't get whatever it is/was)! I did get my furniture turned over and cleaned out from under them, and did lots and lots of house work yesterday. Our weather is getting back to more "spring like" so hopefully I can get outside some, got to get the 3 yr. old over her fever first though, don't need it getting worse.

Deb, I'm right there with you on the 2 bites of a desert! There's no way I can stop with just 2, I'd have eaten the whole dang thing before I knew what happened. Shorts, I'll wear them, short sleeves, I'll wear, and maybe some sleeveless depending on how hot it is, but a 2 piece bathing suit, NO WAY!!!!! Not even when I reach goal and no matter how many time anyone tells me it looks good, (which I doubt with my road map from having kids).

Geez I'm tired. I'm gonna go finish making dinner and then just relax some. I hope I'm not coming down with what everyone else here has had. I'll check back in later.

Monday evening

I am having a rough day full of cravings. I just ate dinner and am so stuffed. I guess I am finally done eating for the day.

Jackie-Welcome back. The drive sounds harrowing. Did you get to go dd's shower?

Susanne-You got in a lot of exercise. I can't to hear if all your hard work shows up on WIW. You are so smart to get in shape by your 40th birthday.

Fillise-I bet you hate this weather. But you did really good at the shower--just fruit and veggies.

Welcome Jane. Several of us have been through 'Weight Watchers including myself. Susanne gave you lots of good advice. This is not a hard woe to follow, you just need to plan a little bit before going to the market. We will all be glad to help you--just remember no sugar or white flour. You don't have to eat lots of veggies if you don't want to. Our fearless leader admits to eating very few each week, right Deb?

Miata-where is your dh? I hope your arm gets better fast.

TRish-Glad to see you posting. How did the day go for you?

Sabrina-It must be hard to have such a tiny mom and watch her eat whatever she wants. Sounds like my dad, but of course I got my mom's "metabolism genes."

TV-Happy Birthday. Sounds like a good dinner, and WTG on avoiding the cheese fries. Does your ds wear contacts or glasses? My son wears glasses at home but won't wear them when he is playing lacrosse. He wants contacts--so vain, I guess.

Deb-You are so smart to walk. I let my exercise slide today and I am feeling rather yucky tonight.

LOVED ALL THE MM'S--thanks everyone.

Hi to everyone I missed
Becky

Recipe Challenge

I decided to get right into the Challenge this week. I made the Layered Cauliflower Salad (see recipe below). It is also posted on the 1st Quarter, 2003 recipe Board.

I liked the salad a lot! It took maybe 15 minutes to put together, then you let it sit for 3-4 hours so the flavors can mingle. It is filling, with no sugar. I used light mayo too. The cheese and mayo combine to a tasty dressing. My 15 y.o. also liked the salad. My dh hates cauliflower, so he didn't try the salad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Layered Cauliflower, Parmesan, And Bacon Salad

1 small head iceberg lettuce, torn (about 8 cups)
1/2 head cauliflower, coarsely chopped (3 cups)
1/2 red onion, chopped
1 cup mayonnaise
2 packets artificial sweetener (your choice)
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 pound bacon, cooked and crumbled
1/8 cup chopped green onions (green part only)
8 cherry tomatoes, sliced

Layer first three ingredients in a large glass bowl.

Combine the mayonnaise, artificial sweetener, and thyme, stirring
well to combine. Spoon the mayonnaise mixture over the vegetables and
top with the Parmesan cheese. Cover and chill at least 3 to 4 hours.

Sprinkle with bacon and green onions and place the tomato slices on
top right before serving.

Serves 8 @ 402 calories, 39 grams fat, 12 grams protein, and 4 grams
carbohydrates w/ 2 grams fiber.

***Note: If taking this to a picnic or potluck, put the crumbled
bacon, chopped green onions, and sliced cherry tomatoes in Zip Lock
bags and add them immediately before serving.

MONDAY NIGHT

Hello Everybody!!!

Hope you all had a GREAT day! Mine went really fast today. I guess a busy desk means that time flies by.

JACKK---So glad to hear that you made it home safely. Hey those roads through MD and WV are no fun when they are dry. I would have had my fingers imbedded into the dash board if there was ice on the roads. Sounds like you had a fun time. That's good that you got to go. How was your new dress??? Did you feel like a "hotty" in it?

ZANNE----Hey, you are doing so great!!! I hope you are still giving yourself some pats on the back. Exercising 5 days in the week is so wonderful!!! If you keep that up, you will really start feeling a big difference. I think the regular, consistent exercise is what's really helping my weight to come off. KEEP IT UP!!! You will love the results! Thanks for your sweet thoughts. I feel the same way about your posts.

FILLISE---I sure do hope you get some "me" time pretty soon. You are always so busy. I'm glad you had a good visit with your parents. My mouth was watering when you said you had FL oranges. I bought a bag of oranges at Sam's last week and had to throw 3 away they were that bad. Enjoy yours! I saw a recipe for mashed sweet potatoes on 30 Minute Meals Tonight and she used the juice and zest of one orange.

LDBLOND---Thanks for posting that wonderful bit of coaching. That was AWESOME!! I printed it out for my journal and for a friend who's always trying to be healthy. And tonight I decided to write it in my journal as well, so that I could really try to put it permanently into my brain. CONGRATS on keeping to 100%. You can do this! Just bite off one thing at a time and you'll be doing everything you want soon.

TRANQ---You are doing so well. I'm glad to read your report that you stayed on program during your visit with the fam. Don't you feel so much better when you eat a lot of salads? I sure do!

TRISH----Hey, girlfriend, I have been there and done that and felt exactly how you are feeling. I feel your pain. Here's the thing, you got on the board today and posted to us. Even though you might not have wanted to tell us what was going on. That's such a great thing. I am so glad you posted and told us that you are struggling. Here's the thing . . . you will get back on the wagon. I will personally make BOB drive really slow when she comes up to your house. Jump back on and we'll all give you a hand up. Even if you just get back on plan for ONE day, you will feel better. Just tackle one meal at a time. Or one day at a time. You can do it. We are all pulling for you!!!!! I LOVED what COUNTRY said, "It's never too late to get back on track." And the sooner you do get back on track, the sooner you'll see some results and start feeling better. The last time DEB had to call me to slap some sense into me, I was so afraid of trying again. I was so afraid of failing again. So I didn't make any promise to her. I just told myself that I would get up the next morning and try to eat an OP breakfast. Well, breakfast went well, so I decided to take on lunch. Before I knew it, I was really back on track and feeling great. Do something different this time. I have to say that my journal is really, really helping me. I have a spiral notebook that I write EVERYTHING in and it's so important to me and these efforts. Perhaps you can find something new to help you get back on track.

DEB----GOOD FOR YOU for getting out of bed and getting in that walk. I think the days when it's the hardest to get started are the days when the workout feels the best. For the past couple of weeks I have been waking up before the alarm, ready to go. Well. this morning the alarm sounded and I was still asleep. It was a hard morning to get going. Sometimes I think Mondays are the toughest. BTW, my TM buddy called at work this morning. She apologized for sleeping in. It really doesn't bother me. I know that I am getting on that TM and moving my butt no matter who else shows up. So it's not going to bother me. She told me that she would be there with me tomorrow morning. That was her idea, so I told her I'd be there for her. I do know that she's got some other health issues bothering her. So I know she's having a hard go of it right now. And you are so right. I remember how big and dark my funk was. I can truly relate with her thoughts of frustration.

MONET----So glad to hear you got to spend some quality time with the DR. Do you feel good about your visit and what the changes are? I sure hope you see some relief soon. You are such a sweetie. I see you as an inspiration. Here you are having all these wacky thyroid issues and you still keep working and staying on track. That's awesome!!! SpaMonet sounds like such a fun time. I'm going to have to look up and see how many drive hours it would take me to get to you. Perhaps I could talk JACKK into a road trip before the pool closes this year. I have to confess that I get sweaty palms thinking of myself in a swimsuit. Yikes, thighs in crisis!!!!

JECRITES----Wow, sounds like you had a bunch of sickies at your house. Hope they all get better soon and that YOU don't get it!

LINWORTH----Girlfriend, I had those dreaded cravings all week last week. They are no fun! I was so happy for that TOM to fade away, because the cravings went with them. Hang in there. You are doing a GREAT job!!! Aren't you so organized to already get a recipe in for the week. That one sounds yummy!!! I love cauliflower.

Okay, friends, it's time to go and do something else. We spent all day yesterday working in our basement again. It's really getting so clean and orderly that I could actually allow an outsider in there sometime soon. Anyways, Paul is already asleep in his chair. Bless his little heart. He has really been working hard in that basement. Of course, he's not getting up at 5:30 to TM like somebody else in the house. Ha!!!

GOOD LUCK tomorrow!!!!!
Kim
