In the "Good Old Summertime"

Okay . . . here we are . . . a new start for a new season. :D

Is SUMMER easier or harder for you when it comes to staying on track?

Personally, I do not like the heat, humidity, and bugs that come with this season and definitely cannot count it among my favourite times of year. I do know, I'm in the minority, though. ;)

Toni48 06-22-2009 02:12 PM

Hi all back from Texas and getting settled back in. Ready to start back on eating right. Even though I didn't do to bad in Texas except for having wine which is always my down fall. Week ends especially are hard for me. I guess they are for everyone. Well anyway I'm going to try. Its a new week.

Solly 06-23-2009 08:29 AM

Hi ladies

The other thread was not locked so I posted over there. So I am copying my post for over here. Thanks Toni.

It was a crazy week and I did not get here as much as I wanted. My DD put hardwood throughout her house and they finished on Wed night. I started cleaning Thursday night until 10, Friday night until 11, and back at 9:00 on Sat and I was mopping myself out the door on Sat at 10 minutes to 5 when the honored guest arrived for her baby shower. Whew! I was exhausted. I sat my big arse on a raft all day yesterday and did't even care if it was raining or cloudy. Now I won't know what to do with myself.

Tech, I was at 180.5 this morning. I was surprised. Eating was not good all week with running to my DD's as soon as I got home. I guess I worked it off. I got up and made it to the gym this morning at 5:00 am so I can get back on track and move that scale.

Bob, you crack me up with all your movies. I never have time to sit and watch a movie. Plus don't think I could sit that long.

Ellen, so glad you had a nice visit with your sister. Sorry to hear about Tom's choleterol. But like you say, lower fat eating will benefit you both.

Toni, glad you are back and had a nice time. Wine is my downfall too, especially this time of year. I enjoy sitting on the patio with a glass, or two. But I just read that one to 2 glasses of wine, beer or boozed helps you against heart attacks 30%. So i am doing something good, right?

Meowee, sorry to hear you are not getting any better. I hope they can do somethinhg for you soon. I perfer summer. I love the heat, it can't be too hot for me. I do hate bugs though.

ATS, Two years to leave your bone marrow! Wow that is scarry. Good luck with all that. And good luck with that career change. I need one of those too, but I want it to be retirement.

Guess I had better get started on this bid for Thursday. Lots of paperwork to complete. Have a great day.

Toni48 06-23-2009 04:12 PM

Darn I went to lunch with a friend today at a new restaurant and had plans to eat a nice chef's salad and ordered something bad anyway. I'm so disappointed in myself. I'm trying not to let it color the rest of my day and get back on eating good. Tonight I'm going to have another salad with chicken breast on it.

Solly- You're right everything in moderation. I just read an article on Sparks.com that said one glass at wine in the evening is just fine. Hope you're staying cool and not working to hard.

Meowee- Hope you're feeling better.

Well with the heat index here today its 108. Drink lots of water.

Toni48 06-24-2009 02:56 PM

Hope everyone is staying cool and drinking lots of water. Eating has been good today. Nothing exciteing happening here. Just starting to do laundry. And having a cup of tea. Happy afternoon.

techwife 06-24-2009 05:46 PM

O...M...G!! Well, after all we went through with the school and them not giving Shelley a tutor, the guidance counselor called today and told me that Shelley PASSED ALGEBRA!! She got a 71 final grade and a 74 on her regents. I'm so relieved!!

Toni48 06-24-2009 07:01 PM

Whoopie for Shelley........

Solly 06-25-2009 02:40 PM

Hi Ladies,

Just a quickie, jsut finished another bid and working on calls on another. It is never ending. Guess I should be happy I have a job and staying busy.
I will be off tomorrow. YIPEE! I think DH and I are going to get massages but no other plans.

Toni, good to see you are back on plan. Good job not letting one bad lunch mess things up.

Tech, congrats to Shelley. I know you both are relieved. Still at 180-181. How about you?

Ellen:

Bob,

Got to run. Have a great Friday and weekend. Talk to you Monday.

Toni48 06-25-2009 06:51 PM

Good evening. Eating is good. Its getting closer to the week end and I hope I can be strong. We're having a shrimp salad for dinner tonight. This day has just flown by. Hopefully tomorrow I get my computer fixed. Its been nice to use hubby's.

Solly- Have a great week end. You deserve it.....

Hey where is everyone?

Toni48 06-28-2009 05:12 PM

Got my computer fixed Friday. The week end has been pretty good. It could have been better. We're grilling pork steaks tonight. Other than that things are pretty slow.

Ellen 06-28-2009 11:54 PM

We went out after church tonight for dinner with a group of folks...bad move! I did not have my meds with me, so that was my first mistake. It was a Mexican restaurant...the chips were my second. It was all down hill from there. My blood sugar is terrible, and I feel stuffed. I MUST get back on the straight and narrow!

Life is crazy. How I wish it would settle down and I could relax. This week is a big 25th anniversary party for friends, and I am making the cake.

It is HOT here, and I have been in the pool every day. No way I can walk in the heat! Its been into the 90s by 9 am ....

Time for bed....

Toni48 06-29-2009 05:16 PM

Well have to rethink how I ate this past week. I can't imagine why I only lost 1/2 lb. Think I'll get back to weighing in on Wed. I did have ice cream last week. I'm so discouraged.

THE BIG ORANGE BABE 07-01-2009 02:08 PM

Hi Kiddo's,

Bob- boy Bob it is so great to see you posting. Can't wait for the updates....

A friend took me out for my birthday to lunch today. It was such a nice afternoon and I really enjoyed it. This month is just whizzing by. Its good and hot here. Wish this board would get moving.

ATSBeautiful 07-08-2009 07:41 PM

Hi Everyone :grouphug:

We are getting ready for the MPKS Chicago Koi Show this weekend. I'm not looking forward to the 14 hour drive but at least 90% of it will be at night. We'll be a lot cooler & hopefully traffic will be minimal.

Treatments are going OK but I still get sick after each one. I'm assuming it's detox. Oh well.....:dizzy:

Toni : Happy Birthday !!!!

Where is everyone? Hope you all are doing well & on plan.

Love & Blessings,
Mary

My blood sugars have been horrible and went on sugarbusters and almost immeitetly my sugars are down

Toni48 07-11-2009 03:06 PM

Alice :welcome: I don't know why this board is so slow. It has some wonderful women on it. I think summertime has got them. Its good to see you posting. Sugar Busters is a great program. Keep on maybe we can get this board going again.

Solly 07-14-2009 04:57 PM

Hi Ladies,
Sorry I have been MIA. I was going thru a down period but boy things are sure looking up now. Last Friday my DD got a call that they had ababy for her. It's a boy, 7 lbs 13 oz, 21" long. Boy are we on cloud nine. He is simply adorable. I still can't believe it is real. They only waited 4 months after finishing the classes and to get an all white baby is nearly impossible (not that it mattered to us). Plus her best friend had a boy the same day and exact same time. The situation sounds good as far as the mother not changing her mind. I am still praying hard for that and ask that you do the same for me. It is truly a miracle and we are very blessed.

No time for replies today, will be back tommor for that.

Toni48 07-14-2009 07:14 PM

Oh my gosh Solly its just wonderful. I already sent up good prayers for your daughter and new baby. Thats just the best news. And bet you're going to be the best Grandma..... I'm sorry you've been down. I've been trouble with that to. I just can't seem to get a hold of my life. But I'm trying again.

Toni48 07-15-2009 06:56 PM

Just checking in. Making a shrimp salad for dinner. Guess I haven't much to talk about. Someone speak up please..

CountryMom4Him 07-15-2009 08:47 PM

Howdy!

Hey ya'll. I know I said I wouldn't leave but the board was so quiet. It was a bad move on my part....seventeen pounds later I'm back again. The ticker is updated and I can't say I'm very happy with myself. Over the last three years I've gained 35 pounds...errrr. I really really really don't want to gain the other 40 back. I prayed this morning and asked God to help me get a handle on this eating instead of the food controlling me. So far so good.

It is awesome to see some familiar faces.

Love and hugs,
Crystle

Toni48 07-16-2009 10:04 PM

Welcome back Crystle. Its so good to see you posting. I can't believe how slow we are.

CountryMom4Him 07-17-2009 02:44 PM

Good afternoon

Hi Toni and everybody. I hope things pick up. Talking and sharing really helps in the journey. This morning was a test and I passed. Homemade biscuits and sausage gravy. None passed these lips. I had some bing cherries instead. They were on sale last week for .99 a pound. An unbelievable price for our area. I think lunch may be refried bean soup. It's delicious and SO easy. I just use a couple of cups of either broth or water and bullion and a can of refried beans and some chopped onion. Cayenne adds that extra bite that tops it off.

Exercise is not in the picture right now. There is zero motivation. I'm hoping to start walking at some point, but one step at a time. Win the fight with food first.

I hope everyone is having a GREAT day. Remember it's all about keeping on keeping on.

God bless,
Crystle

Toni48 07-17-2009 03:38 PM

Hi Crystle and all.... I'm with you on the exercise. I just have no desire right now. I need to get the eating in control. Whats making it bad for me is DH's working hours. He works the night shift and gets home between 12 and 1 a.m. He's hungry then and I wait up for him so I am to. Last night I had cheese and crackers. I was so mad at myself but I did it any way. He retires in Oct. so hopefully we can do some regular hours. Of course thats no excuse. How bout your garden Crystle?

CountryMom4Him 07-17-2009 05:24 PM

Howdy

Well, I didn't opt for the soup but made a nice tuna wrap with a whole wheat tortilla. And it's official I am stuffed. :) Toni, the garden is through for the summer unless I plant some peas next week. We had a bunch of first this year. We got several spaghetti and butternut squash. We also had three watermelon and about six cantaloupes. Hopefully next year won't be so dry and we'll do even better. But I feel blessed for the things we did harverst. I finally quit picking the okra because there was so much. I'm letting it go to seed for next year. Oh and we found a snake melon plant and it actually produced. They are basically a different kind of cucumber.

Love and hugs,
Crystle

ATSBeautiful 07-18-2009 09:05 AM

Hi Everyone!!! :grouphug:

It has been sooooo busy with us! We just got back from Chicago Mon morning,my DH best friend father passed away this week, trying to catch up on my houses all week & today we leave for SC. I think I have Jet Lag.....LOL.

Solly: Prayers to your DD & new son. You're going to be a Fantastic Grandma.

Toni: Hope all is well with you. DH schedule is hard ...Wow, hang in there.

Alice: WELCOME !!! Hang in with us eventually we'll get going on this board.

Crystle: Honey I am soooooo glad you are back! Your picture is absolutely gorgeous & I've missed your posts. Our garden is just starting to produce....watering like crazy(DH). God Bless!

LOVE & Blessings,
Mary

CountryMom4Him 07-18-2009 12:09 PM

Good Morning

Thank you Mary. My hubby got at just the right angle to hide the double chin. :) Where are you headed in SC? I have family in Pagland and Jefferson I think. The Carolinas are just beautiful. Of course growing up there I am a bit biased. We moved to Texas in the late 70's where we finished growing up...LOL Enjoy those veggies.

Love and hugs,
Crystle

Toni48 07-18-2009 12:55 PM

Hello ladies; Wow we've got a little cool front here and it feels so good. Guess today I'll do some laundry and piddle around the house. Right now I'm just having my first cup of coffee and is it ever good. Guess we'll grill some steaks tonight or maybe a pork tenderloin. Maybe just have a nice green salad with it.

Mary- Sorry about your DH's friend's father passing. Lucky you with a garden this year. I didn't even get my tomatoes in the pots this year. I'm missing them so bad.

Crystle- Oh my gosh a tuna wrap sounds so good. I just love tuna and have never made a wrap.

Well guess I should get ready and do something in this house. Have a great Sat.

ATSBeautiful 07-20-2009 12:11 PM

Hi Everyone,
We are headed out the door....bought a ceiling fan for our bedroom this morning & now my DH is treating me to Chinese & Harry Potter. LOL I love the veggies & hot n' sour soup. I have a treatment tomorrow...YUCK!!!!! I hate I.V.s. Oh well...maybe I'll be able to start my raw food lifestyle by August, :dizzy:.

Crystle: I don't believe you have a double chin for one moment. Wish I had your hair!! We went to Enman,SC for a koi social (DH gave a talk on koi food). Where are you from in the carolinas? I've been all over but nothing compares to home...I love the trees here.We were thinking of taking a trip to San Antonio, are you close by?
God Bless.

Toni: I wish it would cool off here and rain. Everything is wilting a bit. Coffee is my down fall, I love it with Heavy Cream only. Steaks sound soooo good. I'm going to have to give up ALL animal products for many months. Yikes! Enjoy your day & God Bless.

Love & Blessings to all,
Mary

Toni48 07-20-2009 06:07 PM

Good afternoon. Nothing going on here today but this week end DH got my new kitchen faucet in. Woo Hoo I love it. Eating has been just so so....

Mary- Hope you have a good time at the movies. Yum I love chinese food.

Crystle- How you doing today?

Hello to everyone else....

THE BIG ORANGE BABE 07-20-2009 07:52 PM

http://bestsmileys.com/hello/5.gif

Thought I had better check in. It's hot as you know what down here...we had a good rain storm this morning and it actually cooled everything off for about 5 minutes!

Let's see if I can catch y'all up.....

Took Kate for a regular check up Thursday and the Dr discovered an Atrial Flutter. He admitted her to the hospital and she is still there. They started her on coumadin and hopefully when the levels get where they need to be, she can come home. We are waiting on results of a stress test also. She had a carotid study done and the results of that were good, so she won't have to have that surgery done. Her heart was beating 106 per minute and they started her on medication to regulate that. When the Dr gave her the news about the carotid study, she perked right up and even sounds better. Her medical Dr was convinced she would have to have surgery to clean out the arteries. Keep your fingers crossed the levels will be ok tomorrow. She's getting antsy, but loves all the attention she's getting.

I'm still not working, but it comes at a good time since I'll need to attend to her when she comes home. She doesn't need to be by herself with these problems.

I've lost 31lbs and I really believe that is from lack of work stress. I hadn't weighed since Febuary and went to the Dr last month. When I saw the numbers on that scale, I wanted to jump up and down! I want to change my paxil to something different as weight gain (constant) is the big side effect of the drug. It's almost impossible to lose weight while taking it. When I take Kate for her next appointment, I'll consult with the Dr about it.

That's about it on this end. Sounds like everyone is doing well. Sorry I've been such a slacker on the board. I'll try to do better!

I'm off to see what I can get in to.

JACKEE....CONGRATS on the baby....send me a picture!

BOB

CountryMom4Him 07-21-2009 09:47 AM

Good morning

Sharing my first weigh-in since being back on plan....minus 4 :) I know it's mostly water but it still gives me that ump to keep on trying. I had a few no-no's this weekend but I tried really hard to not totally jump off plan.

Mary...thank you for your kind words. We used to live in Charlotte back in the 70's. Daddy worked for Exxon and they transfered us to Texas in 77. We are about four hours from San Antonio. Both my hubby and I would like to go sometime to visit the Alamo and the Riverwalk. My nephew lives there and just loves it. Why do you have to go on a raw veggie diet?

Bob...how good to see you. ((Bob)) Awesome on the weight loss.

Toni. ..do you just love your new faucet? We need a new sprayer on the kitchen sink. It gets stuck on and the kids love to turn it off and have me come in and get squirted..LOL

Solly...hey lady. Hope you are doing good so far this week.

I hope and pray ya'll have a SUPER day.

God bless,
Crystle

Solly 07-21-2009 12:41 PM

Hi Ladies

I am just back to work. I took off Friday and Monday and stayed with my DD and new grandson. He is adorable and I just love being with him. I sure wish I could retire and keep him for her when she returns to work (teacher). Needless to say eating has been off the wall. I am afraid to get on the scale. May bite the bullet and do that tomorrow. Exercising has been cut back a lot. With the baby and me staying out there plus my foot. I had my last trainer session last week and did not renew until things settle down with the baby and I get the boot off my foot (which will probably be another 4 weeks). So I will do what I can when I can and try to start eating right again soon.

Bob glad to see you back posting. Congrats on the loss. I would never be that lucky. :carrot: Hope Kate is out of the hospital soon. Coumadin in hard to regulate. At least the arteries are good. I just had a friend have that done at age 53.

Crystle, Glad you are back posting. I know what you mean about eating. It has been a merry-go-round here and exercise is the last thing on my mind.

Toni, It will be nice when your hubby retires. We got new faucets last Dec and I love them. Funny how things like that make us happy.

Mary, Sorry about your Dh's father. Sounds like you are running around like crazy. Hope you get some rest in the SC.

Ellen, where are you. Seems like you haven't posted in a long time.

Got to go, have lots of work to catch up on. Be back when I can.

Toni48 07-21-2009 09:08 PM

Hi everybody. Just finished a dinner of dreamfields pasta and spraggetti sauce with italian sausage. I'm stuffed. Its been a while since I haven't just had a salad for dinner. Not losing any weight.

Bob- I'm sorry Kate has to be in the hospital. Hope she gets well and can come home soon. Wow you rock with your weight. 31 lbs is so great. Congradulations.:bravo:

Crystle- Great weight loss!!!! :carrot: You did so good. The week end are the hardest.

Solly- I know you're just enjoying that new grandbaby so much. You'll get back on eating right. Just allot going on for you right now.

Well off to watch Big Brother.....

ATSBeautiful 07-22-2009 08:47 PM

Hi Everyone,
I had a treatment yesterday & am really super tired today. Hope you all are well. I'll check in tomorrow.

Love & God Bless you All !!!

Mary

CountryMom4Him 07-23-2009 01:19 PM

Good afternoon

Howdy ya'll. Eating is in the pits right now. There are some things going on that I should be praying about intstead of eating about. It's just SO hard.

Mary..I hope you are feeling better today. ((hugzz))

Toni..how is your week going?

Solly...awesome on the grand baby. Enjoy every second. You'll get the diet and exercise back. We all have off times.

Bob...hope all is still well with you and Kate.

God bless,
Crystle
