Default Testing Restaurant Food for Sugar

This was in my e:mail in-box this morning and I thought you might like to have a read . . . . . . It's been a very long time since we Diabetics needed to test our urine to detect high blood sugar levels, but it's nice to know that those little dip sticks still have a use . . .

"Want to make sure that Diet Coke is actually diet? Use Clinistix or Diastix urine glucose test strips to test. Just take a small amount of food or drink in your mouth and mix it with your saliva, then spit out a small amount on the test strip. A change in color indicates the presence of sugar or starch. Don’t just dip the test strip into the food or drink; saliva is essential to the reaction because it contains an enzyme that releases glucose."

I've never heard of that test before. Interesting. I always heard to spill a few drops on the table, and if it's sticky when it dries then it's not diet.

I've never had any trouble telling the difference between Diet Coke and regular Coke, that's for sure!
