Good morning

It is so cool here, 58 this morning when I walked. How nice. Rudy would not get out of bed so I walked by myself (Yeah me!). Got my whole walk in. May be able to get another one tonight.

Nothing exciting going on with me. Just trying to get ahead in my work before I go on vacation. Tonight I plan on getting all my magazines and books together and maybe start packing some things I can. Better start making a list of things I don't want to forget.

Meowee, thanks for starting the new board. I always like a fresh clean board and a new month.

Everyone else

This is a new month, let's also make it a new "us".

Copy/paste from last month's thread because I don't think anyone saw it before it was locked...I don't feel like typing in everything again

HOLY CRAP!! I have been so busy and have missed you guys! I've been poking around the General Chatter area for a while because I really have not been on any healthy eating plan in months. I'm hoping to start a healthy summer starting tomorrow.

Well, in a nutshell, the shop has TAKEN OFF!! I kept wearing the same pants every day thinking they were my lucky pants as every day I wore them I was bringing in big bucks, but then realized its JUNE and the lovely snowbirds have come back needing haircuts!! Unfortunately, so has my allergy/sensitivity to ammonia and chemicals and my hands are a bleeding wreck. I haven't had this problem in over 15 years and I'm not all together sure what to do because I hate living with open sores on my hands.

Derek has been working hard at his new job at Rite Aid....unfortunately, mostly out of town. Such as Michigan, Maine, Cleveland and points in between. But the overtime is getting backed up bills paid off, which is nice.

Shelley is having a rough spring, suffering from anxiety attacks and migraines. She's having a CT scan on her head (how many times do moms of teenagers tell their kids they need their heads examined?) and is seeing a therapist. She hates school and wants to move away to a bigger, more populated school. She feels she doesn't fit in. I'm hoping the therapist can get to the bottom of it.

Kyle is going to the County Fair in the County spelling bee! He won his classroom spelling bee, then the district-wide spelling bee and now he's off the the county fair! One of the judges told me that he's the first 1st grader she's seen from our district to go the fair! We're very proud.

To keep the kids busy, they've started a lemonade/baked goods stand. Shelley does all the baking herself (she's making chocolate chip cookies as we speak!) and Kyle, well, we're lucky if we can get him to sit in his seat for more than five minutes. But they've made $39 in two days!! Shelley sells out of her goods. Friday she had molasses cookies and brownies made from scratch. She's a VERY good baker.

On the diet side of things, I've been totally horrible, getting what I can when I can. But tomorrow, Shelley and I are trying again to get down to business. We both are going to try to loose 10 pounds. We got the WiiFit and love it, but it works best if you use it. Tomorrow, we're also going to start with a walk/run/jog after work. I hope it sticks and we can get back into a healthy lifestyle.

Okay...just wanted to check in. Lots of new faces here! Nice to see the board moving!!

I hope to come by more often and post my menu for the day...starting tomorrow.

TTFN!!

Good Morning . . .

Hot and very humid day today -- but the sun is shining and that's a good thing. Wish I didn't have to venture out today since I felt like a limp puddle of perspiration at 8 am after just hauling the garbage to the road; but I really must get to the grocery store because I cannot tolerate another day without a "big" salad.

Hope the day is good to all of the rest of you . . .

Hey everyone..So I so far have kept my promise to myself and have been 100% sugar free. Although I can't go to the gym classses like I was use to..I am taking advantige of 20 min here and there to use the treadmill and eliptical that the people I nanny for own. And of course taking the kids out on bikes or just walking. Im hoping to make it through the summer with a small loss or at the very least able to not gain.

I move out in 2 weeks from Sat and i am excited. that alone will make things easier with weak food moments.

Tech glad to hear things have picked up--good for you. Sorry your husband has to travel. The baking idea sounds awesome!! good fro her.

Meowee-have an awesome day just try not to get too overheated

Solly-Nice job walking alone. Thats not always fun. I had one of th emunchkins chatting with me while I walked on the treadmill made the time go by fast.

Hello everyone,
A new board is nice Solly! We have much to be thankful for in our Meowee. I wish I could send her a cool breeze for a few days.

Gym! Your move is just around the corner! I hope all goes well.

TechWife~~ So good to see a post from you! I hope your hands heal soon.

I have been so busy, I have Emily a lot now that her mother has once again walked off from the responsibilites of raising a child, and all that goes with a house, etc. Emily is doing ok but as any (almost) 4 yr will, she misses her momma. I hate her mother left but I hope she does not come back...5 yrs of all this drama from her is bone tiring! I think this is the 6th time she has left and a child needs a momma who will do what needs to be done. I guess you can tell I am just done! BS was high this morning and it has been so good! I am sure from the stress more than anything!
Hope your all having a good Wednesday!

Happy Thursday everyone!
I can't believe the 4th is almost here already. I have to "get cookin'" to help my sister with a big family BBQ she's having at her house. Believe it or not, I stepped on the scale this morning and to my complete surprise I was 155 on the nose. I can't believe that 7 months ago I started this journey praying and hoping it would work this time, and here I am looking at 155 on the scale!!

Like I said before, I now want to set a second goal of reaching 145 because I want to have a 5 pound cushion for maintaining. I'm hoping with the help of my daughter, I'll be able to post a before and after photo for you wonderful ladies who have inspired me so much. I really don't think I would have made it without the unending support you have given me. Thank you so much!!

Peggy-That is a very tough situation you've been put in. Is it your daughter, or daughter in law? I feel terrible for both you and Emily. Being a mom, I couldn't even imagine leaving my child because of the responsibilities that come with motherhood. You're a wonderful Grandma to think of Emily first.

Gym-WTG with no sugar!! I wish you lots of luck with the move. This must be a very exciting time in your life. Enjoy every minute of it.

Meowee-Hope today isn't as humid as yesterday. The humidity just zaps the will right out of you, doesn't it? I too am low on salad and fruit. I will be getting my butt to the grocery store today.

Solly-Have a wonderful vacation. I hope you come back refreshed, and feeling wonderful.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July!!

Good Morning, Sugar-Babes . . .

Boy . . . I could really use some of your cool breeze, PEGGY . . . . . . It certainly is great that you are there for Emily at times like this, poor baby. for both of you.

Way to go CHRIS . . . and I think your idea about giving yourself a little extra cushion is a great one.

I'm trying to get up the courage to go out on the normal mall-crawl later on today. I hate to wear my sunglasses indoors but seems I will be scaring small children (and maybe large adults, too) if I don't. I had a major hemorrhage in my left eye early last evening. Now, I am prone to these, but usually they are just a little red area and go away in a few days. This one is covering the entire white of the eye, which currently looks almost black, and it is actually a bit sore (because the eye feels too big for the socket since it is engorged with so much blood). I look like something from one of those movies entitled "it came from outer space'.

Yes, before you say it . . . I did go and spend most of the evening in Emergency just so I could be assured that it was just a more dramatic version of the regular problem and the eye was not about to shoot out across the room. The emerg doctor did say that this one, because it is so bad, could take a couple of weeks to totally drain; but other than that nothing to worry about.

Funny timing -- I have to go an pick up my newly fixed glasses at the optician today -- imagine this will be a little distracting for them as they do the final fitting stuff.

Other than that . . . another hot and sticky one with the humidex heading for high 30's/low 40's again (around the 100 F mark). I'll just keep trying to remind myself that it won't be long before I'm complaining about the snow again. So it will be a mostly indoor mall-crawl today. With or without the sunglasses.

Hope everybody else has great things on the go . . .

Well, yesterday was a disaster, food wise. DH made molasses cookies to sell at her lemonade stand and they didn't come out right (I think she forgot the egg - they were flat and chewy) so we ended up eating half of them ourselves because she was embarrassed to sell them. Back to the block today.

I'm off to make scrambled eggs and strawberries for breakfast.

Good morning ladies.

Glad to see the board picking up.

I didn't walk this morning as I was up at 3 am with my hip killing me. I tried walking around the house in the dark, but how far can that take you? At 4:30 I finally thought of trying the heating pad and that helped. So at 5:30 I didn't feel like getting up. Nor did Rudy.

We are suppoed to go to a friend's pool tomorrow for a cookout and then to the lake on Saturday coming back Sunday. Sounds like fun, but they are calling for rain for the next 5 days pretty steady.

Tech, I am so glad to see your post. Great that the shop has done so well. Hopefully you can wear gloves when you do hair and your hands will heal up. Sounds like Shelly is turning into a little Paul Dean. I am sure your walks/runs after work will also help her alot to. I hope the therapist can figure it all out. You must be so proud of Kyle. Just how does one prepare for something like that? Study the dictionary? I hope he does well.

Gym, Guess you are starting to pack. I knowyou will love your new place. Congrats on making the whole week SF. I knew you could do it.

Chris, WTG on meeting your goal. I was at 155 once, then cancer stepped in and it went right back up. You have come a long way and you should be so proud of yourself. I bet you look like a new person.

Meowee, Ouch your eye sounds painful. I hope it clears up soon. I had to laugh about going to the optomitrist today. I would love to see that.

Peggy, you are a special person. I know you are a positive influence in Emily's life and she will be a better person b/c of you. What a shame a child has to experience something like that.

It is quiet here today, lots of people off. So I better take advantage and get some things done. Have a great long weekend. See you Monday.

. . . Actually called the optometrist and made an appointment to see him at the same time as I pick up the glasses from the optician . . . the undereye area is also looking bruised today as well so figured another opinion wouldn't hurt.

Here are a couple of shots of my early halloween costume . . . hope you are not too easily grossed out by stuff like this . . .

Solly: So sorry to hear your hip is acting up. Could it be the low pressure with the rainy weather making things worse? I've printed out some second grade spelling bee words off the internet and we practice with those. He's rather unreceptive to it, though. I think it makes him nervous. I'm hoping Shelley's therapy will help. She doesn't want to go to school this fall at ALL. She's starting high school, but it's all in the same building, just around the corner and down a different hallway, but same band room, nurse, auditorium, etc. She says she's bored and wants to go to a larger school. I can't say as I blame her...the high school section of the school really is dark and depressing looking. But we don't exactly have other options, either.

Meowee: OUCH! My eyes hurt just reading your post!! I blew out some blood vessels in my eye giving birth to my daughter, but it was nothing like what you're going through. NS is on the east coast of Canada, right? Well, you should be getting the weather I'm having right now very soon (I live in Northern NY along the St. Lawrence) and it's down right chilly and windy today with intermittent showers. Relief is on the way!!

Chris: Those on-scale victories are so great when they are unexpected!! WTG!!

Peggy: Okay, update me...Who is Emily and who is her mother. Sorry you have to deal with that type of drama.

Gymrat: Good luck with the move. I hate moving.

Okay...gotta go get ready. TTFN!!

Good (late) Morning!
I came on early, wrote a looooong post and then...blink and it was gone!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrr! So here I go again! (I will copy as I go this time!)
CHRIS~~~ on reaching your first Goal! I don't think you will have any problem with reaching the second goal either! I want your Aren't you proud of yourself!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for inspiring us old slowpokes! and to you!
Amber (Emily's mother) was Jack's GF. They have lived together for over 5 yrs, with the exception being the 5-6 times she has left him and Emily. (Emily is almost 4). First time she left for 10 days to go back to an old BF she was "still in love with". I think she had been with Jack about a month then. Within 2 weeks of coming back she had a positive Pregnancy test and we had the great "joy" of going through 9 months of "it might be Jack's or it might not be". When Jack told me no matter what the bio thing was he raising this baby as his own, I considered myself a grandma! Amber could not leave well enough alone (and just count her blessings) and every few days she would throw it in Jack's face Emily was not his. I did not know this until Emily was 2 months old and went to their house after getting a panic call from Jack to "come quick there is an emergency". Amber was in full fit mode, had Emily under her arm like a football and was hanking things out of the closet as she screamed at Jack "she is not "F" yours and if I want to walk in front of a Mack truck with her it is none of your business!" Jack had already called 911 so With her in this rage all we could do was walk on either side of her as she stomped barefooted and in a t-shirt and sweats, up the road, baby still under her arm, and try and talk sense to her. Finally the police came and they made her give the baby to Jack. He took her home to some heat b/c it was only 40 degrees out and Amber only had her in a light sleeper. When she got calmed down the police took her home to Jack and she stayed. (That was when I had DNA done on Jack and Emily) and she was his bio child. So as you can see this 5 yr struggle has been nothing but a heart rendering one. I thought of Amber as my daughter in law until she left when Emily was 15 months old...just walked out and told Jack "you can have her". But Amber came back 4 months later, pregnant with a 17 yr old BF's babies (she later had twin boys) and no where to go! Jack is a better man than I would have been, he took her back! When she said I could not see Emily anymore b/c it was too upsetting for her (Amber) to handle, ( I had told her the house was fiflty and unsafe for a toddling baby and it was the truth). We had already made one ER trip because the baby had plastic from a CD cover lodged in her throat she had picked up off the floor). They were still in Court over Emily, even though they were back together (you know how Court is dragged out) so I intervened and asked for visitation. I got very libral visitation and it was made part of the Court Order. It was also part of the Order that if Amber was not residing in the home with the child she got supervised visits only. Jack got full custody of Emily. So that is what has kept Emily with us. Amber had healthy twin boys and placed them for adoption with a wonderful family. Thank God for that happening for those precious babies. They will be 2 in Sept. So we have all tried for many years and nothing has improved with Amber (Drs. meds. therapy, etc.). I hate this for her b/c she is really out there alone in the world and she is not capable of living on her own. Just please say a prayer for her!

Meowee~~Boy you were not kidding when you said that eye looked bad! I hope it clears up for you soon and never happens again! I am relieved to hear your doing all the right things where your eyes are concerned.

TechWife~~~"Tomorrow is another day" Scarlett O'Hara It will get better!

Solly~~~Thanks for the encouragement over the situation with Emily. I am a tough old bird and I can handle whatever is dished out ( and shovel it back tenfold) but this baby can't. I am 53 so there is a good chance I will be here until she is grown and on her on two feet and that is what I pray for! Just say a prayer this had not dome emotional damage beyound repair for Emily.
She deserves so much better! I have to get going here! Where does the time go?

Maybe I can just drop the "me" and be "OWEE" for a while . . . and, building on that segue, the eye did NOT miraculously clear up overnight. However, my starch and salt excesses of yesterday didn't result in the usual puffy ankles and weight gain either -- at least not yet.

Anyway . . . it is the start of our annual Lobster Carnival weekend and we do have a lot of 'Yanks' in town because of your long weekend and thankfully the weather is supposed to be hot and sunny but with lower humidity levels; so hopefully a great time will be had by all.

So . . . for all my US buddies . . . hope you have a really great FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND . . . regardless of which side of our "longest unguarded border in the world" you are spending it on.

See you all later . . .
