BusDeb...
The pictures are beautiful! It looks so peaceful! Congrats on not gaining too! Always a plus when you go away! I had baught a digital camera this summer, so I know what you mean about feeling like you need to use it to justify the cost! I am sick today as well as my 8 & 10 y/o. I just pray that my 2 babies don't get it. They don't have any concept of making it to the bathroom! Have a great day guys! Kimmy |
P>S>
Have a great time tomorrow! Sounds like fun, except for I could never do a marathon! :dizzy:

Morning! Family night was a chaotic success. We never sat down to eat since what I was making was getting done in bits and pieces and was all kind of snacky stuff anyway. (dim sum stuff...) By the time it was all done, no one wanted the stir fry or soup! Guess we will have that tonight instead! I was really naughty with what I ate last night. The steamed buns and potstickers were made with white flour, but I ate them anyway. That was the first time I really cheated in six weeks. Now to get right back on program and move on....
I should have never gotten on the scale this morning, but I did. I was up a pound. Not surprising from all the naughty stuff I ate yesterday. I am doubling up on water, cutting back on starches, and will hopefully get over the DMS and find my way to losing again. I am wondering if I ought to blame the stall on the Glucophage? The doctor thought it would help me lose, but so far, that has not been the case with me. This stall started at the same time I started the meds. DEB Harry's was a blast. I had not been since I started SB, so I took my time and looked. I found all kinds of wonders. I got whole wheat filo dough. (it does have some enriched flour, but it will be a very occasional treat to have Spanikopita, or agave baklava!) They also had spelt filo, and it seems to be 100% whole grain. They had the Lindt 70% dark chocolate, and I got a few bars. It is so much cheaper than the low carb bars I have been getting from the health food store too! I have to make a huge, very complicated cake for a party on Saturday, and got about $35 of chocolate to use in the recipe. Thankfully, I am getting paid for making it! ;) I was disappointed in the veggies they had. The quality is better and the prices about the same at Publix. They do have a tremendous selection. I do love to shop at those kinds of stores. They did have one great find. It was Bob's Red Mill sgww pastry flour for only $2.36 for a 5# bag. I paid 89 cents a pound for it bulk at the health food co-op in Little Five, so I was ecstatic. I use it for everything from gravies to biscuits. You are right about Atkins. I always felt unsure about the healthiness of what I was doing. I had concern about how it effected my thyroid. You can find so much to support it and so much to refute it on the web. On another board I have frequented for years, it seems to be escalating into almost a cult! :) I do believe SB is much healthier and will stick with it. I have a lot to lose and have been trying so hard for so long, it gets discouraging. The hardest part is dealing with people who seem to think you have a gluttony problem, and why don't you just eat less and take control of your life...etc. BOB I don't live far from I-85. If you are going to be passing through town, let me know. Meeting for lunch would be fun. GRACIOUS If you can't find sgww pastry flour up there, I will mail you a bag! or two... You are doing great! I am sure you will keep doing fine. My problems are severe resistance and thyroid disease. I feel sure things will move again, and I just need to be patient. If nothing happens, I will be talking to the doctor.... FROG So the October get together is October 10-13? Dang! That is the same weekend as my 8th grade class reunion. I know it is weird to have a reunion for 8th grade, but in the school system I grew up in, you went to one school for k-8, and then to the high school. We even had a rather formal 8th grade graduation. Guess I will have to wait for Orlando... but anyone passing though Atlanta...let me know! :) |
Thursday Morning!
Um, this is going to be quick. . . it seems like I'm always saying that these days--but even a quick stop on the board helps the day to go better.
First things first--Best wishes to TV today! I'm looking forward to seeing you back on the board and knowing that everything is A-ok! OK--the date: It was nice--we are going out again tomorrow night. I really like this one (the first one in a long time I've wanted to see more than once or twice), so cross your fingers for me! Tv's not the only one getting the "operation" today. I took Miss Belle to the vet's at 7:00 this morning and am waiting for the phone call to tell me she came through it ok. I would be out sitting the waiting room if they'd let me. They will keep her over night--so no warm kitty to snuggle with in the cold tonight. Have a good day everyone! Susan 300/240/150 |
Irony
It just occurred to me that TV might well be home tonight and Miss Belle gets an overnight stay in the hospital. Doesn't THAT say something about health care in this country! Oh well, I do hope that TV can have the "easy" procedure and recover as quickly as possible!

BUSDEB, THOSE PICTURES ARE AWESOME!!! I'm so jealous!! Will have to make it to Gatlinburg one of these days. Thank you for sharing them!
MEL, FROG, DEBBIE I'm hoping to be at a 13 to 14 minute mile for 13.1 miles by then. I know all 3 of you gals will be way faster than me, but if it won't hurt your ego too bad to put that in there - let me know what you think. I'm at around a 16 minute mile now, but that's only walking 5 miles. Am I being too ambitious? If we choose a 13 minute mile that's 2.84 hours to do the 13.1 miles if my calculator is right. MEL I'M TICKLED PINK! We can all crash on the floor at my house if that would get you down here! |

Good Morning
Well we got the snow last night that we were expecting the night before. We got about 2 inches but it is very light stuff and now the sun is shining so hopefully most of it will have melted before I leave here to do some errands. Going to look for a pair of shorts - who knows I might get up courage to wear them around the pool :). Hope the weather is nice and hot when we get there. I'd sooner be complaining about the hot weather than the cold. YIPPEE. The scale was good to me this morning - I am down 2 pounds to 193 - this is the lowest I have been and I hope it is the beginning of a downward trend. After a bad start yesterday morning - I went out for breakfast while I was waiting for my van to be fixed and forgot to ask for ww toast, which is probably no better than the white bread anyway, and had home fries with bacon and eggs. It is very hard to not eat it when it is on the plate. :s: Anyway for the rest of the day I did very well. I had a chicken leg with cole slaw for lunch and stuffed green peppers with brussels sprouts and green peas for dinner. The only snack I had for the day was an orange and a piece of cheese. I was out for badminton in the evening and when I came home all I had was a cup of milk with ovaltine. This is the time when I usually want to snack but I was tired and went to bed early. Sef - Hope you are out of your funk. Deb - I plan on TRYING to stay op while I am away altho I know I won't be completely successful. I will just do the best I can. I KNOW Saturday will be a completely op day for me - DUNGEON MASTER will see to that. My ds who is coming with us also follows this woe and he will keep tabs on me. He's got more willpower than I have. Anytime we are out in a restaurant with the family he will give me a dirty look if I try to eat anything not op, like french fries. He makes me feel like a naughty little girl. :joker: And as my dd is beginning to follow this woe that should help too. BusDeb - I loved your pictures. The scenes of the smoky mountains make me feel nostalgic - my dh and I spent quite a few holidays in Tennessee. Good wishes for MISS BELLE and DIXIE. Bye for now. Marie. |
I missed WIW again, but it doesn't realy matter. I went and bought a new digital scale. Granted, I can read it better and it measures in .5 pound increments, but it weighs 5 pounds heavier than my old one. So I am basically starting over. I am significantly bummed.
Anyway, here is to a new beginning. Hope all are well and are having good weeks. I will check in again soon. Jen |
Crazy Thursday
Howdy,
We actually got very cold last night, so my heat was on. I live in Orlando, by the way, and I still felt I had to cover my plants and I turned on the Christmas lights hung on my Bougenvillia plant (shucks - can't spell that). Yesterday was the time of various trials for me. FIrst of all, in the morning my scale was up 1 lb. I wan't too worried about that. Then all sorts of stressful things happened, which made me crave snack and sweets, and what have you. I even considered drinking a full glass of wine, which would positively intoxicate me - however, I don't believe in consumption of alcohol when you are depressed, and it also wouldn't be OP. So I sat on my sofa and read a book while nibbling on soy nuts and sweet potatoe chips. For dinner, I went to Black History Dinner occation at my school. They were serving fried chicken, collored greens (can't spell that either), macaroni and cheese, and peach cobbler. My friend who is one of the sponsors and also OP with me (might even be coming to our get-together), was exchanging tentative looks with me - how bad would it be if we let go and had some? But no. We won and did not eat the bad stuff. I got a bottle of water and finished that - and the greens. Those were o.k. This morning I felt compelled to check my weight again. I was down 3 lb from yesterday, and now I am 158 - the lowest since the Summer of 2000. I hope it is not a "ghost" loss. I do know that it will take another week to solidify it, and then perhaps I can hope to go down again. So far I have lost (ghostly or otherwise) 7lb since joining the SB. I am very busy with school and my personal issues right now, but will try to post better replies to all of you. ALL - MONO is going around. Some of my collegues or their familiy members have been hospitalized!!! It is transmitted by saliva. I use my hand sanitizer all the time, so I don't accidentally touch my face after touching a sick student or one of their "sneezed on" objects. ROSALIE - I miss snow soooo much! I had a really long conversation with a couple of girls from the North, and we were reminiscing about our Ski adventures. I know it's a drag when it gets soggy and icy, but I want to see it anyway!!! Congratulations on your scale adventure!!! you may even have to buy new clothes here in Orlando (we'll go shopping) for the whole new you! MONET - don't despair. You know it yourself, and after all, a pound really is not much. You will probably be down a couple in the next day or so! Enjoying a good dinner with your family is worth the little jerk of the scale. BETH - If you feel like it, you can check your loss with a measuring tape. It is a bit tricky, I'll admit, and I wouldn't do it more than once a month, but it is a non-scale way to see if anything's happening (other than your clothes). BUS DEB - o.k. You made us all teary here. Was that an invitation for the summer holidays then? The pictures are awesome! Wish I were there... See you all later! (gotta do some work at school now) Vesna |
Good Thursday Morning!
Just got in from my jog/walk-tried to find a million excuses NOT to go today, but couldn't think of a darn good one, so I got in my 4.5 miles. Surprised that I didn't have a better time than I did, did it in 45:07 today with 4.05 of that straight jogging-the wind was working against me, but I don't think it was worth taking almost 4 minutes more than my best time, so it has me wondering if I really made me wonder:shrug: if my fastest time was accurate. The scale went back down today a little, back to 122-again, no complaining from me, just hoping I guess, to see it go down a little more this next week. We have a BAT MITZVAH to attend this Saturday morning-I'm clueless to what I will wear to the service, nothing fits and I don't want to go buy something I'm bound to only wear just once. I do have a dress in the closet that still has tags on it that I'll see if it still fits. I do have a dress I wore to my nephews B/M last year when I was 15lbs heavier, maybe that won't look too bad. The party is on Sunday (hate when they break it up into 2 days) and I'm just going to wear a red silk top with some pants I have-it's at a night club, so casual dressy is the code. I'm sure we'll have a blast, my friend Sara always does things in a HUGE way-even having kids-she has 8 (she wanted 10). Gal is NUT!!!!:dizzy: FRUIT, CONGRATS on taming the candy monster yesterday-you go girl! MUSIC, as you said, at least you didn't gain, and that's a plus. Glad to hear the sickies in your home are getting better. Eli all of a sudden got worse again last night-maybe that's because he NEVER takes the anitbiotics as prescribed-he thinks he knows better! MEN! Let us know how James' vision test went. KIMMY, I think most of us will be glued to the boob-tube tongit for SURVIVOR-looks like a gorgeous place they've picked out this time! Sorry to hear your kids aren't feeling well, but don't think you're a bad Mom at all-too many times they cry wolf and you don't know when to believe them. Michael kept complaining about his eyes bothering him and I just dismissed it, finally, took him and he needed major glasses-to this day, he doesn't let me live that one down! Thankfully though, my kids are never sick, and never have been out a day of school for any reason:) Don't ever say you could never do a marathon! You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to doing-don't you tell your kids the same thing? I NEVER in my wildest dreams thought I'd weigh what I do today, never thought I'd be jogging, never thought I would even fathom doing a marathon!!! HAPPY, CONGRATS! That's great you lost a pound. See, now if you could stay focused and stay OP 100% just imagine what the scale would be showing. Sorry to hear about DH-what exactly is GOUT, I know my GM had it, but I really don't know what it is. BIGK, CONRATS to you too for 2lbs down the drain despite the little indiscretion you had the other day. I don't think one time will kill you, (though it sure doesn't make you feel good afterwards ), the problem lies if you don't stop it in it's tracks and continue eating off plan, or seeing yourself not gaining from a episode like this and figuring you can do it more often and not gain. Some people are very lucky and know that they can cheat once and get right back on track-I unfortunately am not one of those people and I surely am afraid to tempt fate, so I do my utmost best to stay OP-and like I said before, I have no desire to get sick to my stomach. I guess it helps that there's nothing I truly desire to eat off plan too. DEB, glad to see you back, safe and sound. Loved seeing the pics of you and DH and the view-thanks for sharing!!! Hey, you are far better than me, my camera still is sitting in the box! BETH, you may be like me where artificial sweeteners in a bit too much quantity may bother you, so do try cutting back and seeing what happens. I'm sure the scale is down for you, but think more of how you are feeling physically. How did the pumkpin muffins actually taste? What I do to figure out the caloric intake of a recipe is measure and weigh all the ingredients and break down all the calories, fats, carbs, etc. then after I bake whatever it is, I weigh it out and then divide it by ounces (say a cake that's 24 ounces and I cut it into 2 ounce pieces, I'd take the information on cal, fat, etc and just divide it by 12). That's the easiest way, I think-esp. if you have a food scale. If you want to send me what info you have, I'll see if I can somewhat figure it out for you. At least you are aware that you are having too much fat in your diet and being aware of this gives you the insight to see that you can easily do something about this. SOL, you mean walker/jogger/runner(FROG). Ain't no way I am jogging up any hills in WDW! Jog down, yes, but if I try up, you'll be scrapping me off the pavement!!! I'm not sure what to put as a time for the marathon, I wonder how the distance will peter me out and make me go slower-I have to think about this one. I'm going to TRY my best and remember to try and call you this evening BS-before Survivor!!! MEL, I think we should all hold out from registering until SOL commits to coming to NC in OCT 100%!!!!!! MONET, as I mentioned above to BIGK, one meal won't make you gain real weight, maybe retain water, but not fat, not overnight. Look at me, I was up 2lbs yesterday from Tuesday and back down 1.5 today-no way is that fat (though don't I wish it on the downside), it's just our normal fluctuations-what we see in the long run is what counts. Then, it may be like you said, the Glucophage. From what I see, it's not suppose to cause weight gain, but with each person being different, you never know. Try to rule things out as best you can. Glad and envious you enjoyed your trip to HARRYS!!! I have some spelt filo and will one day make some baklava-which is VERY easy to make with the agave! Spanikopita, I'd be more apt to screw up! I'd def. opt for the real chocolate vs the artificial stuff, just be careful with it, esp. if you're a chocoholic. I personally don't recommend people eating it until close to maintenance, or at least a few months on this WOE-I see it cause too much trouble with people and overdoing it. FILLISE, glad to hear you had a nice time on the date and look forward to going out with him again-we want details!!!!! Good luck to Miss Belle today as well. BOB, haven't heard anything about BB coming back. Do you ever watch THE CHAIR? That's not too bad. I think of all the reality shows, AMAZING RACE is my fav., then SURVIVOR then LOST. ROSALIE!!!!!!!!!!http://members.aol.com/debelli/woo_hoo.jpg What awesome news to see posted!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! This alone should be in the forefront of your mind to keep you OP. I think if you plan ahead the best you can, you'll be able to stay OP better than you think. With other family members doing this WOE too, it makes it even easier, I think. I KNEW you were bound to have a loss soon, it seems to be how you lose, in spurts far apart. CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN-I'm thrilled for you!!!! JMUIR, did you see MONET lives in GA as well?? I hate the digital scales, got rid of mine long ago and got a regular one. Gawd forbit this should ever go and I had to get another one and it weighed more than this one did-I'd be taking it back and wouldn't stop until I found something that weighed the same!!!! It would drive me nuts:dizzy: VES, talking about your plants made me laugh and think of when we were at SOL'S house last month. When we drove up to her house, it looked like she had dead bodies in the front, she had covered her plants with sheets. CONGRATS for surviving that dinner last night-it truly feels great when you have a sense of empowerment vs easily giving in. CONGRATS on being down today-see, patience does pay off! Geez, it's alreay Noon! I'm going to get something to eat for lunch, take a shower and gosh, not sure what after that. I am going to get some recipes on this board today, do or die!!! Have a wonderful day everyone!!! Debbie 194/122/129 SB since 3/22/00 Reached goal 6/10/01 |
Yikes!
Wow...there is a lot of reading to catch up on when you are not around for awhile. I went shopping this morning and left the house at 8 am. Got my hair cut, my youngest son's hair cut, shopped the mall, then did my grocery shopping. I had a great time! The boy I babysit didn't come over again because the mother is in labour and the baby should be here today for sure. I am hoping for a lil girl! ;)
Rosalie- Congrats on your loss!! Keep up the good work. Isn't it worth it when you see the scale going down? You were very helpful to me with your suggestions and I went with list in hand. I found some fantastic things at the SuperCentre today (Loblaws). I got some of the WW Catelli Pastas-Never tried this stuff but it was on sale so I got 4 boxes. I checked the Classico sauces but noticed they didn't have any nutritional values on the jar, even though there is no added sugar. Since I am such a fanatic about my numbers I kept looking. President's Choice Splendido has a sauce called Arrabbiata that has no added sugar but had the nutritional values. I bought one but was bothered because there is 7.1 grams of sugar per serving. Now that is naturally occuring sugar but still....what do you think about that? Dressing- My search for an already made (read *lazy*) salad dressing was a success! Renee's Gourmet makes dressings with no added sugar. I got Spring Herb Garlic and it tastes pretty good. Per 1 Tbsp there is: 0.4 g carbs/0.1g prot/2.2g fat I thought that was fantastic!! I will check out other flavours next time. They are found in the produce section. Yummy Lunch- I also got some of the PC WW Tortillas that Rosalie mentioned and made a very tasty wrap when I got home. One tortilla, 1 tbsp. Pace Salsa, 50 grams roast beef, 2 oz lite cheddar and some shredded lettuce...nuked so it was warm and the cheese melted...Oh my!! I loved it. That is going to be a regular lunch for me. I think I can do with just 1 oz of cheese though, but I didn't get breakfast this morning. I am freezing to death. We heat with wood and since I was out all morning we didn't have a fire going. Made one when we got back but it takes time to heat the house. My fingers are so cold I think they are going to break off!!!;) I can't think of anything else right now, but knowing me, I will be back! |
Hi everyone,
Hows everyone? I've been so busy with the little one staying at home now I've not had time to post. Glad to see all the newbies...Welcome this is a great board and you get lots of support. I'm past the morning sickness it ended the day before I hit 3 months. I'm already expanding.. . I've gained 4 lbs since I got preg hopefully I won't gain over 20 with this baby. I have had a real hard time with the sweets since I got preg. I don't buy any but when my hubby comes home he buys cookies (not Legal Cookies) and I just can't stay out of them. Hes going to have to hide them!:s: I am having tuna fish cravings and dill pickle cravings like you wouldn't believe. I tried eating legal candy and even one piece causes gas like you wouldn't believe.:o Deb did you ever find a legal Fresh Apple Cake recipe if not I'm going to experiment with a regular recipe. I will sub wheat flour and sugar sub and see how it turns out. Well I'm going to get off here now. Everyone have a great day!!! Started SB July 1, 2001 265/205/155ish |
