sef-a quillo is a lap robe sewed like a quilt and a pocket is sewed on the underside and you fold the quilt up and tuck it into the pocket making it a pillow.
Good nite all. Take care and eat legal. I already feel so much better and my mind is so clear!!! |
Brr we had a cold front come in and its freezeing. Took all our beautiful weather away. Wow while I was writing here my step daughter called and she had a baby girl this morning! She came early but its 5 lbs. 17oz. I'm so excited. Shes going to call DH at work and tell him the news. He'll be thrilled. Its our first girl in the family. All our Grandchildren are boys. We went shopping this week end and bought a new t.v. for the livingroom. Its a nice 32". We need to get a stand for it yet. The produce was horrible at the market. But I got some salad stuff and a little fruit. Think I'll make some black bean soup this week too. Your recipe Bob. Well better go call some family and tell them the news. Have a good Sunday evening.

Hi all,
Exciting day......not! Can't get over this malaise. Bitsy and I took a nap again today. Just got up after two hours. DIL sleeping on the couch and DS hasn't been heard from so he's sleeping too. He's alive, I heard him cough a little while ago.!!! THUNDER: Now I know what a quillo is, just by other names....a pocket quilt or pillow quilt. Have a friend who has made a few TONI: Congrats on the new baby. My DIL's family is all boys except my GD and her cousin. When GD was born there was a big fuss made that a girl had entered the scene. Looks like we're the only ones here today. We three are such good girls!!!! May good things happen, Shirley |
Hi everyone
I'm glad to see a few posters to-day. Not usually much doing on the weekend here. I went for a walk this morning. Didn't go as early as usual as the mall doesn't open its doors until 8 a.m. on Sunday. This afternoon I was at the Legion playing shuffleboard. Our team won for a change. But win or lose it's a fun day. Had a bowl of chili and some coleslaw there. Plus a couple of pieces of butter tart.:o So don't have to cook dinner tonite. Maybe have some fruit later. Sef - Thanks for the crochet info. The afghan I am making is two colors - about 2 inches one color and three inches the second color. The colors are beige and light brown. I've been weaving in the new color and leaving the old color hanging for weaving in later. I think at the next color change I will try weaving the old color along the edge so I don't have to do any cutting. Maybe it won't be too noticeable as the two colors should blend in together. If it doesn't work then I will just cut the thread and go back to the old way. You were very ambitious making something with nineteen colors. I would never have had the patience for something like that. The plain almonds I roasted came out o.k. The other ones didn't have enough salt. I will add more next time. I only used a couple tspns oil with the salt for about 2 cups nuts. I may need to use more oil to hold the salt. Most of the salt stayed behind in the pan. The ones with the spices had quite a good flavor. Hope your head is better to-day. Toni - Congrats on the new baby girl. Enjoy her. I only have one grandaughter - the rest are all boys. My dd has four and my ds has one boy plus the gd. It's nice having a girl to shop for after all those boys. |
TIME TO GET UP EVERY BUDDY!!! IF BOB IS UP...EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE UP!!
Got a full day ahead of me...Kate goes to the eye Surgeon today, and then tomorrow, we go to the medical Doc. I've got to get started on my job ap, and then call some managers. Got to go online and do my unemployment for the week or I won't get paid. Poor little TIPPY has an earache. Lucky, I had some ear drops and some antibiotics so I've started her on those. I'll take her to the Vet after we get home from the Doc. It might have been bothering her, but she showed no signs of it until last night and then she was pityful. Walking crooked and holding her little head to the side. What's on everyone's agenda today? I'm off to pour some coffee and read the paper. BOB |
Good morning ladies.
Boy was it a nothing weekend. I didn't do a thing. We even watched 2 movies during the day on Saturday. That is totally not me. The weather was so nasty, you didn't feel like going out. Yesterday my DD had the girls that were supposed to be in the wedding over to try to support the bride since it was supposed to be the shower that day. They stayed practically all day and DH & I set in the bedroom and watched basketball. We fixed some steaks on the grill in the rain and veggies and then got in the hot tub. I just feel like I wasted the whole week end. Got someone waiting on me, so no time for replies. Will try to get back later. Oh, just one, Thunder, glad to see you back and with such strong resolve. Good luck. You can do it. |
Good Morning
Where is everyone to-day? I sat up watching the Oscars last night and ended up sleeping in this morning so wasn't up on time for walking. But did go out about nine for badminton. I just run home to change my clothes and have to get back by 12.30 as a few of us are going out for dim sum. It's not my favorite food but am going more the the company and socializing. Will check in again later. |
Good Mornig all--
I am happy to report that I was down 2 pounds this morning! See what a difference it makes when I am here with all of you! Thanks!! Poor DH is still working on our plumbing. He got the hot water tank installed with no problem, but now we have no hot water for the kitchen sink. We are on a well, so some gunk or something has got to be plugging the line somewhere, because we have it everywhere else. He completely rebuilt the faucet yesterday thinking that might be the problem. But it wasn't. He has tore the lines down and run leads down in and still is having no luck. Now he is talking about taking out the new hot water heater and hooking up his compressor and blowing out all the lines. I wish I could help more because he has such problems with his back. But there isn't room for two of us under the sink, and I sure can't remove the hot water tank. Poor dear!! Eating has been good for the last few days but haven't really had an appetite. The only good side effect I read of with this new medication. Just hope that my body doesn't become used to it and then want to make up for all that I haven't been eating. Doctor said it would take two weeks for the full effects of this to kick in. Already the hot flashes are less intense and last for a shorter time. That helps a lot. This also makes me drowsy, so I have slept better the last few nights. Yesterdays menu: B-- Protein shake made with strawberries L-- Pork Rind cheese nachos with sour cream and guacamole D-- Deep dish pizza quiche Solly-- Some days it's nice not to have to do anything.....just enjoy the day off. I have had lots of those days lately. But they weren't enjoyable. I sure hope this new medication does what it is supposed to do!! Rosalie-- I stayed up last night and watch them too. I bought The Departed a week or so ago but haven't watched it yet. Guess I will have to do that soon. We have a basketball game to watch tonight, though. Maybe tomorrow. Enjoy the time with your friends today. Will try and check in later..... |
I am sorry I have been MIA. I have been working down in the garage, setting stuff up and making stuff. I have mugs and creamers, and large bowls I am working on. Tom is supposed to put up shelves for me, but has been dragging his feet on it. He did move a bunch of stuff he had on my table out though, so it is at least somewhat better. :)
I don't have much time, as I need to run to the bank...but I wanted to let you all know I was thinking about you. I forgot to weigh this morning. I will tomorrow....and report! My biggest news is that I sold a vase yesterday to a friend, who paid me probably more than it was worth. He was so excited to get it though, it was gratifying. :) :grouphug:  |
Well I finally braved the scale and weighed in today. I've gained 7 lbs. in the past few weeks but I'm finally glad its over and now I've started new today. Hope I can stay with it this time. I've got plenty of good foods to eat. I'm going in, in a minute to cook a boneless turkey breast I have. Sorry this is so short.

Hi all,
I went this morning after the NH and bought a scale with my gift card. They were on sale so got a better one for $15 off for the price of a cheaper one. There wasn't too much of a selection. I still have a balance on my card. Since I already ate today and am drinking I will weigh tomorrow morning and use Thunders do or die attitude! Then I went to WD for milk and came out with $20 worth of stuff. Took it easy yesterday. Such a beautiful lovely day. We did not get the horrible weather predicted. Mother Nature still calls her own shots even though all the technology tells us what is supposed to happen. I watched all the Oscar shows yesterday and the big event itself. I'm not a clothes horse, with this body I'm too much horse!, but I love to judge all the outfits coming down the red carpet. Nicole Kidman had a beautiful dress if she had torn off that stupid bow on her shoulder. She doesn't need a lot of furbelows. I also thought Helen Mirrens dress was absolutely gorgeous. Just shows that a woman of a few years can look dignified and sexy all at the same time. DS surfaced enough he went into work this a.m. But he just came home about 2. DIL and I are still hanging in there. Don't want to brag too much, liable to jinx us. ROSALIE: There are so many tips for crochet. You just have to find the one you think is the simplest for you. The St. Tammany Library in Abita Springs put a call out for people to bring in their textile creations. I was attending a group at the library that was socialization and stitching. The leader insisted I take the 19 color/12 designs afghan to the show. To me textile means cloth, quilts etc. But I took it. I was right, but the person who is compiling a book thought the afghan was so beautiful she had a photo taken of it. I will say hung up against a dark backdrop with photo lights on it, it was spectacular! We all had to sign releases giving her permission to include our projects in her book if she so desired. She is collecting pictures of southern projects. We are supposed to be notified when the book is finally published. I am going to try roasting nuts, I prefer walnuts to almonds. Usually what works for one will work for the other. I love nuts, especially caschews, walnuts and peanuts. BOB: Hope all went well with the doctor and the vet. Pets are like babies, they can't really tell you what's wrong (Altho it seems like Tippy did a pretty good job of it) and their whines can be so pitiful. Get snapping on that unemployment stuff, a dollar is a dollar. Then paperwork for reinstatement. Don't you love paperwork?! At least you're feeling well enough to harass others. Just because you're up................indeed! SOLLY: You didn't waste a day. You took time to recharge your batteries. You spent time with loved ones. You relaxed, embrace it, don't fight it! Teensy: Congrats on the loss. How frustrating for your DH. Nothing like having to do a job twice. I hope it's all fixed soon. MONET: You are really going to town with your creations. Doesn't it feel good when someone likes your work enough to pay good money for it? Hooray for you!!! TONI: Sounds like a good start with turkey breast. We can do this together. Was going to vacuum but don't think I will. DS will want to rest and doesn't need a vacuum roaring overhead. Will do it tomorrow. I'm home all day. Will try to check in later. May good things happen. Shirley |
Just flying by....stopped to skim the board after sending an email to my son who is in NYC on business.
SEF: Don't roast walnuts! They don't taste as good roasted as raw, and are actually better for you raw. They are the ONLY nut that doesn't taste as good roasted as raw. |
GOOD EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!
Everyone's been to the Doc and we're home. Kates Doc told her he didn't believe there was anything else he can do to restore the sight in her eye. There is too much scar tissue. She's very disapointed but after she broke her hip, she used every excuse there was to not go and get the retina reattached. I didn't say anything, she feels bad enough, and she has 20/20 in the left eye so she can still read the paper. He said she had no pressure in that right eye at all and it had gone soft. It's not making fluid because the cornea is again slammed up againt the iris and there is no room for the fluid to create. TIPPY has the start of a double ear infection. He gave her a shot, sent her home with three medicines and I'm to call him in a week and let him know how she is. OR...bring her back if she's not any better. I missed my calling...I should have been a NURSE!!! GAWD knows I've done nothing but that for the last FOREVER!! MONET...CONGRATS!!! Selling your first piece....I can't wait until I can buy mine (after they are made of course) Maybe by Christmas????? At the rate I'm going...James is in the snow if he's in NYC...hope he took his coat! SHIRLEY...I think I need to find a third shift job...I've become a night owl and then sleeping in. JACK..glad you got some rest...I swear you sound like your were bored! ROSALIE...I watched until the bitter end last night and then got started on something else! COLLEEN...DOWN??? CONGRATS!!! TONI...Still cold over there?? I've got chicken in the oven...I'll try to get back later. BOB |

Hi everyone! Just checking in. I worked yesterday and today is my laundry and pick up the house day. I'm starting with sheets, I think. I was at the new coffee house, visiting with my friend, Marianne, for an hour after dropping the kids off at school. I've been monkeeing around here, though, and have to GET TO WORK!!! Will be back later for replies.
