Ok... My passion is cooking. I want to be a pastry chef to be exact. So, holidays I like to do something special for my kids. So today I made some beautiful cup cakes http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r_Cupcakes.jpg (if you want to see them) and I didnt eat any batter, or any cupcakes, and I dont want to. Trust me.. they are a delicious combo, strawberry with cream cheese icing. I am just sooo proud that I was able to make them for my kids without bursting at the seams to have one.
By the way, I did make them with organic applesauce, and egg whites. Even though Im not eatting them, I still want them to be less unhealthy for my family. Everyone thought they were soooo cool, and yummy. Im so proud of me!
wow, those look amazing. YOU HAVE KIDS? You look like a teenager in that avatar pic! (I'm not even lying, I thought you were my age!)
Those cupcakes look phenomenal. Congrats for not even sampling those!
I plan to have a healthy type bakery, featuring organic items as well.
VeggieLover - yes I have two kids. I am almost 25. I get that alot! But Im cool with that, as long as it continues.. I will be happy. Im sure working out and eatting right will help with that!
Those are SOOO cute!! I remember doing things like that for my kids, back in the day - as my son says. I never made them as healthy, and I know for sure I had one or two of those things back then. I have to say I probably would have been very tempted to eat one today if I had one in person.... I bet they tasted as good as they looked!
They are simply adorable. I KNOW your kids would have been thrilled to see them - although I wouldn't want to eat any, I would just want to admire them. What a great job!
Also, well done on making them healthier and on not deciding to have one yourself. Isn't it wonderful when you get to the stage where you just don't 'want' to eat something like that. I choose not to eat treats simply because I know that I am better off without it. I am constantly tempted, and just as constantly feel stronger because I turn away from them and towards something healthier.
Yes it feels great. I mean I am sure they are good to the " untrained palate" lol but to me, they just wouldnt taste as good as getting in shape feels. Its easier to NOT eat them than it is TO eat them and feel like crap. I dont know.. the kids and the fiancee loves them.. they can have um. I just dont want them to go to waste so the man is going to take the rest to work, besides the kids have had plenty and the Easter Bunny came so they have plenty of stuff to keep them busy. Thank you everyone.. I am very pround of them. I loved doing it as well.
That is great, Ready.... I know just what you mean; it is not worth eating them and living with the consequences! They become unappealing because we know what they do to us.
It was nice of you to make them for the kiddies and fiancee, and glad they got plenty from that ole bunny. You are an inspiration to all of us.
Those are cool. Just curious, do you have any plans on what culinary school you'll go to or even if you'll go to one? I'm planning on going to one at the end of the year or beginning of next (after we move) and becoming a pastry chef myself.
well I want to go to culinary school, but I will probably have to get some financial aid. I would love to go to Johnson and Wales. There is only 4 in the country and there happens to be one in my home state. Charlotte, NC. Of course my other plan of action is to go to a tech school, get good grades and then get a scholarship. I chose pastry because I love it the most, I get to be colorful and creative. I love cooking period but to me pastry is fun and I love doing it. The only place I really feel at peace is in the kitchen, its my therapy and I do it well. Ive had so many jobs and nothing just brings out my passion the way cooking does. What makes you choose pastry?
I like the fun of pastry. It helps that it was the kind of food I was addicted to before. So I think I got really good at it. I took a baking class at the local community college and really liked what I was doing. I just happen to hate the way the teacher taught. I think it's something I could be really good at doing, enjoy doing so it doesn't feel like I'm working, and if I work in a bakery I can work in the mornings so I can have time for my family in the afternoons.
I'll definately have to have financing, but I think it'll be worth it. Johnson and Wales is a great school. You should be able to learn a ton from them. I want to go to The Culinary Institute of Alaine and Marie Nortre. It's in Houston. All the chef's are french and the school is 20 weeks long if you go during the day M-F 8am-3pm. There really isn't any other good schools in the Houston area and I don't want to travel to another city.
I must say it takes a lot to resist licking the batter, which is why I don't bake much anymore. I am the classroom mom and I made tons of cupcakes for my husbands job, but I have a new reward.... its the looks on the kids faces when they eat my cupcakes. So these days that's my reward. Not the short lived taste of the cupcake. Keep on baking and I really do hope you reach your goals bot career wise and your weight.
