Are you making good time?

Hi, I just though about it. All of us have these long term goals and mini goals. Are we getting close to our mini goals? And are we making good time for our long term goals?

I am doing ok for my mini goal. I still only have only 4 1/2 weeks before the big day. Hopefully I can lose the 9 lbs or at least 7!

At this rate, I should be able to get to my goal weight no later that a week after my goal date, July 1. I don't wanna sound like im giving in, but when you slack sometimes, you have to refigure your goals and give yourself time to catch up!:carrot:

stacylambert 02-08-2006 01:50 PM

I just had to change mine!

I was well on my way to being 190 by VDay when I set it but I've been plateaued for weeks. I changed it to 199. Right now I'm at about 204 but it's my TOM so hopefully with almost a week and TOM weight I'll make it.

I had everything planned out to where I'd be 150 by my birthday but now (assuming this plateau is broken) it will be 160 instead.

Hopefully it starts going smoother. It sucks not reaching your goals.

srmb60 02-08-2006 02:05 PM

I have never met a single one of my weight loss goals. No joking. Not one!

Scrappy Chick 02-08-2006 02:32 PM

I should have met my first mini-goal (BMI less than 40) today, but I decided to stop lying about my height and recalculate. I am NOT 5'4", I am 5'3.5". I am still close to making that goal though!

And am definitely on pace to meet my long-term goal. Of course, I had a really fast start so that is helping to keep my average loss per week up pretty high. I expect that to be more realistic as I get further along in the program.

i'm not really sure, but i think i may make my deadline. i may be just a pound or two off, because i didn't really start dieting and excersizing until the 10th of the month. but i am going to try to incorporate alittle jogging into my walk at lunch and see if that might jump start my loss a little. if not, at least it will tone up a little more. :)

Goals can be great and very motivating if all goes well but sometimes life just gets in the way. Thats what is so great.....re-evaluate your goals on a weekly basis and see if they need updating (+/-). This is a journey of re-defining your healthy lifestyle.....not just a race to the finish line.

srmb60 02-08-2006 02:54 PM

I lied. I have met goals but I've never done them in the time allotted. Sorry.

Does that discourage you? I think the fact that you're achieving something you wanted matters more than the time it took to achieve it.

srmb60 02-08-2006 03:55 PM

Hi Margarita ... um ... I suppose it was discouraging at the time. But I think what I learned is that (you are right) time wasn't the important factor.
Innocence or perhaps naivete might be the biggest problem. Getting to 130 by a certain date was important but when I got there, I couldn't stay there. Had I known that, I probably would have worked harder at being a healthy 130 rather than a quick one.
Did that make sense?

And then of course there's the "grand scheme of things". What difference does it make now how quickly I got to any of my goals when I've been solidly under 140 for almost 2 years?

Perhaps I'm just not very competitive. I can understand why that sort of challenge might appeal to some folks. If it does and it works ... more power to ya.

josie4 02-08-2006 03:59 PM

I've only had one serious goal, and yes, I made it. I'll probably not make any more goals, though.

blues4miles 02-08-2006 10:59 PM

I don't do mini goals so much anymore. I have no idea when I will reach my goal weight. My wedding is in December 06 and I hope to be more muscular and more lean by then, but the number isn't as important to me as trying to stick with my plan and get better with it all. Right now I am three weeks away from having 6 completed stars on the Presidential Challenge and that is a goal I know I can reach without worrying about bloating or TOM or anything silly that will trip me up :)

DoingItForMyBoys 02-09-2006 08:47 AM

So far, so good for me. I have 29.5 lbs to go to reach my goal, and 16 weeks left till my goal date. That's less than 2 lbs a week, so if I stick to it, I can do it. When I lose these 29.5 lbs, I will set a new one to reach my ultimate goal weight.
I purposely set a goal this time, that would require hard work and change on my part, but is still attainable. In the past, I always set a goal based on an extreme amount of change, and so I always failed. Which would drive me -> and cause me to shelve the whole idea!

Well, I met my Valentine's Goal of losing 20 pounds, and I even beat it by 7 pounds! :) After weigh-in this weekend, I'm going to go ahead and set my St. Patrick's Day Goal. As for my long term goal, I'm doing good so far! I started my journey on December 12th, and I've already lost nearly 40 pounds! :)

MiaManning 02-09-2006 05:08 PM

40lbs, wow! Congrats on your surpassing your v-day goal!

Heather 02-09-2006 06:04 PM

I don't set time-lines on my weight loss goals... I know my body may have its own timeline. But I will say I'm ahead of where I THOUGHT I'd be at this time. I do set exercise goals (minutes/month), and those are VERY motivating.

I turned 40 earlier this week. My one long term goal is to be healthier at 50 than I am at 40.

DeafinlySmart 02-09-2006 06:14 PM

The reason I regain weight after weight loss is not because I can't sustain it, but because I end up pregnant (then eat like I'm still pregnant afterwards). Before I've never used mini goals or even forums. Now that I am, I find having a small chunk of weight to look forward to losing a great motivator. I met my first goal a week later. My second one is 14 by valentines. I've lost 13, so unless I hit a plateau (which I did for 3 wks in January), I should make that one too. I made my long term goal with some padding. I also made my goal weight with padding. My lowest ever was 125 but I was 19 so I added 10 more to be more realistic.

Alaynna 02-09-2006 08:17 PM

I am making good time...I only have one pound to lose for valentines day...and my long term goal should be met...

in_the_end 02-10-2006 12:04 PM

I'm not sure if I'm average or what but it has taken me a year to lose 55 lbs. I just lost 1lb this week which was great cause I plateaued for awhile.
I try to not focus on the time and just enjoy this process :)

It's taken me 13 months to lose 44 lbs. :)

frugalmom 02-11-2006 12:01 AM

I don't set "deadlines" for myself. I just want to be a healthy weight. However long it takes. One year would be nice, but even if it takes two years, that's OK too. It is not a race for me.

Fit_Boo 02-11-2006 01:13 AM

I guess it's yes and no for me. I told myself that if I kept going at a good rate, I'd be near 200 by now but it was never a specific goal. However, plateaus being a part of weight loss, I maintained for about 6 weeks, give or take a pound here and there. When the scale started moving again, I gave myself a very reasonable goal just for fun and reached it this week. :carrot: But if I hadn't, it wouldn't have mattered much because I know I'll get to my goal eventually. If it takes a bit longer than I want it too, so what? I'm healthier than I have been in a long time and that makes it all worth it. The weight loss is a nice bonus to getting healthy hehe

Karma27 02-17-2006 01:19 AM

I set mini goals to motivate me. The goals give me something to work toward and actually make me excited about getting fit. I am committed to this lifestyle change so it doesn't bother me if/when those mini goals aren't met by the set date. I actually decided to do away with setting a goal date, just as long as the mini goals are met I am happy. It is also a way for me to focus on losing small amounts of weight. The task doesn't seem so impossible if I say I'm trying to lose 5, 10, or 20 pounds at a time.
