Default Fitday...how should it look??

Hi, I'm new to your board and loving it. I read in another thread that alot of you are on Fitday. so i gave it a try today. I'm curious if my pie chart should look one half carbs, one fourth protein and one fourth fats?? I eat alot of healthy choice and lean cruisine for lunches and the same thing every morning for breakfast....an egg mcmuffin i make at home.

last year when i started my diet, i was eating 2 fried eggs and 2 slices turkey bacon for breakfast and a healthy choice dinner for lunch and whatever we were having for dinner that night. and i lost 5 pounds a month for the two months i was dieting. so far this month, i have only lost like 3 pounds. am i doing the right thing??

i walk a mile a day 5 days a week and started back at the gym last night. i am planning on going 3 nights aweek. i started out with 15 minutes on the elliptical machine and doing some light weights with the arms. at home, i do sit ups at least every other night and sumu lunges.

what do you guys think?? will i gain more muscle before i start seeing the pounds disappear?? my goal is to be at least 145 by this July. Am I on my way???

Question

My fitday chart is over half carbs, and less than a quarter each protein and fats. I'm not sure how it should look, but I have lost about 3 or 4 pounds this month. What does that mean... I don't know! But your goal is so like mine it's scary. I'm 192 and I want to ne 150 by July 1st. Do some research and see what the daily values are for certain things. I have it written down somewhere but I have to find it.

Are you managing to keep your calorie levels in line? Are you happy with that part of it? I see you are losing.

I'm on a low carb diet so it's more like 1/4 carbs... working on getting it so that it's more like 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 (carbs, fats, protein) and just make sure that the majority of my fats are GOOD fats...

MiaManning, we should definately keep in touch with each other and see how things are going. my goal was to lose 8 pounds a month, but now i will be happy if i can lose just 5 a month. what type of diet are you following?? oh, wait a minute, i try to look at it as a lifestyle change, not diet. i still don't eat much fruit or veggies, but i do try to watch my fat and calories. I am trying to stick to about 1200 a day plus a daily walk and going to the gym 3 times a week.

i think so. i try to stay at about 1200. but if i go over one day, i don't sweat it because i am pretty sure i probably shouldn't be starting out so low anyways. i probably should be at about 1500 so when i hit a plateu, i have somewhere to move down to. what do you think??

(okay, i am new to this board, so somewhere, i lost your quote i was replying to SusanB.)

I really think it depends on your activity. If you lift weights you want more protein. I keep my chart 25-30% healthy fat, 25-30% carbs and about 40% protein. That gives me plenty of carbs to fuel cardio and lots of protein to build muscle. I'm 5'8" and I lost eleven lbs the first month, but I'm apparently slowing as I haven't lost anything for almost a week.

I want you to find a thread called "Starvation Mode" it'll help you to understand that confusing business of eating too little.
If you have been eating 1200 cals for a few weeks and you feel good, have strength to do everything you have to do and walk and exercise .... I think you'll be fine. Once you start going to the gym regularly, you may find your self hungry. Eat more.
It is not unusual to lose more weight at first. I call it fluff. lose weight from poor nutrition and being sedentary.
You also should try to find a thread about building muscle so fast that you don't lose fat weight ... ahem! ... I'll see if I can find it for you. Don't happen very often.
How tall are you?

This isn't the thread I was looking for but the last post is very good and says just about what I meant.

thanks susanb, i printed out some of one of the articles to read while i'm at the gym tonight. I am about 5 ft 6 inches. i'm alittle upset that i haven't lost but 2 1/2 pounds this month. i keep telling myself it is because i am walking at lunch, but when i lost my first 10 pounds during sept. and october last year, i was actually going to the gym. but i am not giving up. i am determined to stick to it.

Good! Keep in touch. We want to know what happens when you go back to the gym.
You may want to read some in the exercise section here. Learn a little more about weight lifting etc.
