crazysexycool -- Welcome!! You'll find a ton of info and support here! You will probably get a lot of advice, but you might want to take a look at the exercise portion of the board and start reading reading reading. There is a section for general exercise, one for lifting, and one for videos.
I only say that because you could get 10 responses and 10 completely different answers. Some people exercise every day, others less often. Some walk or run, others swim, many lift weights. Some do it alone, others at the gym. There are a thousand different ways and you will need to find what works for you, and there's a great place with tons of info already.
As for how long it will take, that depends too. On your starting weight and age for one thing.
I know I didn't really answer your questions, but I don't think there's one answer for everyone. So, my advice, look around this site and ask lots of questions!
