New Years Resolution?

  • How much does everybody dread that saying? For years I would say I am going to lose wieght, and over the year somehow my wieght creeped up not down. Well I am happy to say that I am looking for a new New Years Resolution this year. I joined WW in May of this year at 217lbs, I am now 149 with 13 to go. That makes it 68lbs lost I hope to reach 70 for Jan. 2 weigh-in. This is the first time I am truly looking forward to seeing the year end, because I have finally stuck to my resolution for the year. I guess a good resolution would be to stick to it and keep it off. Although I have to admit the idea of all that food we are going to see in the next week is a little scary to me. Can I keep it under control? Anybody else worried? Let me know how you handle the INVASION of the snack foods.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All!!!!!!!
  • Happy New Year to YOU! Congratulations on your weight loss. I have also been a 'loser' this year! 82 pounds since 1/1/01, with about another 10 -15 to go! But, then the real work starts--keeping it off! I walk 2 miles every day and try to keep under 1400 calories. Any suggestions for the long haul? I've been fighting this fight my whole life and I'm really good at gaining weight and loosing weight, but I stink at keeping it off!
  • Well done - amazing achievement. It's so good to read about people's successes. Makes the whole weight loss task look more achievable!

  • Hey there gals. Major congrats to both Bueller and Tryin'hard for such an incredible year of committment and weight loss.

One thing that helps me stay within goal range and focused is the gang on the Lifetime / Maintenance Thread. I've been at goal now for 3 1/2 years. ABout a year ago, I had a lapse and regained 10 lbs. If not for this thread and the great bunch of people who post (check out the Weekly Challenge) I don't know if I could have been as focused to relose the weight - which I have!

I find that keeping on program - and really being clear about what I plan and do put in my mouth - is key to keeping the weight off. I also exercise... and walk 3 to 5 times a week. It def helps.

Now that the holidays are officially over... I've tried to get rid of any super fattening trigger foods still lurking about the house.

    Once again congrats.
  • Thank you for the great insight, Patch! I lost another 2 pounds over the holiday and I'm within 10 pounds of my goal, so my thoughts are increasingly moving toward the mindset of maintenance. I'm really good at loosing, really good at gaining and now I'm looking for success at maintenance. I walk every day and I know that is the secret to keeping the weight off.
How often do you weigh yourself? I currently try to limit it to 2 or 3 times a month, but now that I'm closer to goal, I'm wondering if I should track it more often.
Have a great day--you should be so proud of yourself!
  • Thanks everyone for the tips on maintaining and I will definitely try out that website. Tryinhard, Way to go!!! We seem to be on the same path I also lost 2 lbs over the holidays and now have 11 to go to get to WW goal, 17 for my personal goal. Keep me posted as to how your are doing.
  • Hey there gang... just a bit of followup... first off congrats you two for losing over the holidays. That had to have taken amazing effort.

I find Twosome, that I still go to WW meetings at least twice a month - sometimes every week, to check in / weigh in / and get great support. But I do not keep a scale and weigh myself at home. I'm "just a bit" compulsive, and I know I'd want to weigh myself much too often - I think it would backfire on me.

I've found that I really needed to think about what "treats" were important to me - especially going into and continuing on maintenance. My DH loves fattening foods and icecream (and so do I). But the difference between he and I, is that he'll buy potato chips eat a few and put the bag away - I would want to eat the whole bag. So my compromise to myself is to have that 94% FF popcorn (and eat the whole 2 pt bag), to have lots of Skinny Cow icecream sandwiches in the fridge (for me). To make at least one really tasty WW type dinner we both can enjoy during the week...etc. This week it was meatloaf.
  • Hi Bueller! It does sound like we're on the same wavelength! I've been doing well--managed to walk 7 miles this weekend! I usually walk 2 every day, but was extra motivated and had some extra time this weekend! Any suggestions for "a little something with my tea" after dinner? I have about 100 -150 calories to spare and I'm getting sick of rice cakes--I can't eat chocolate and I'm just looking for something new!
Have a good week--you're doing great!
  • Bueller--I just went back and read your original post? Have you thrown out all of the holiday goodies (OR sent them to work with someone else?!?) Be good!
  • A little something
tryin'hard, I don't know the calories offhand as I follow WW pts, but I enjoy Peak Freans digestives or if you like lemon the lemon biscuits are really good and go nice with a 'cup of tea'(they are i WW pt each). Although I live in Canada and sometimes we can't get the same products, I think you should be able to find them. And in answer to your question, my fridge got a thorough cleaning yesterday there is not a bad crumb to snack on(except for my daughters Oreos, but I can live without those.) I even went all out and prepared healthy meals for the week, I find it is easier to stay on track thru the busy week that way.
