Thursday Chick Chat :o)

Hi.. I haven't been on the beach for a bit. I have been hanging out with the delightful chickies on the chicks in control forum.. trying to sort out the "why" behind my crappy eating... I am feeling pretty self aware - so back to the beach it is for me as I know that it is what works :D It is lovely to be back - again

Things are going well for us here.. I look forward to catching up with everyone in the forum

Mamacita 02-02-2006 06:43 AM

Good morning~~ :coffee:

Hey, Marianna, good to see you again! We've missed you!

I've had waaay too much stuff going on around here to suit me. Later this morning, I'm driving up across the state line to Anderson, SC to give support to a friend whose elderly father killed himself after she nagged him into going to the doctor. He left a note: "Don't blame yourself."

BIL, who I'd "thought" we had safely tucked away in Jacksonville for at least another 4 or 5 months called last evening and said the job down there abruptly ended and he was on his way home. :( RATS! So much for my bliss!

My weight hasn't budged, but I'm not surprised. I haven't been OP hardly at all this past week. I resolve to do better.

Now, downstairs for a bowl of oatmeal with LF milk.

pearshape 02-02-2006 07:17 AM

Hey chicks! Hi marianna and mamacita!

Today is a bloated and very fat feeling day even though my eating has been good. It's TOM so I guess it's to be expected. I feel really good physically, lots of energy, no cravings so that's good. This morning instead of steel cut oats I had some sort of mixed grain cereal. It was good, a small change. I used soymilk and blueberries in it..yum! Not sure about the rest of the day since I don't have a lunch ready, I'll probably make some tuna salad with veggies or something.

Do any of you use Bob's Red Mill products? I love that entire line. They're all whole grain and they even have a lc bake mix that's not full of chemicals and fake stuff, just fiber and whole grains. Both the steel cut oats and the mixed grain cereal I have now are from them. Great products!

Ever since someone posted about Celestial Seasonings English Toffee tea I've been craving it. Can you crave something you've never had  ? I haven't been eating desert because I've been having a glass of wine with dinner, plus I find that if I don't eat dessert, even the ricotta ones, I don't crave sweet things as much.

So, anyway, enough rambling! Have a great OP day chicks.

Mamacita 02-02-2006 07:28 AM

Good morning, Pear~~

Yes, I've used lots of the Bob's Red Mill products. They're very good, even if they are VERY expensive. I can find them at Whole Paycheck (Whole Foods).

I haven't tried the CS English Toffee Tea, but yesterday I tried the Honey Vanilla White Tea Chai (how's that for a mouthful?) sweetened with a little Splenda and some lf milk, it was very nice. Now, I want to go out and buy some of the regular white tea. I've never tasted it, but for some reason it just sounds yummy. :)

Marianna 02-02-2006 08:14 AM

I drink white tea with jasmine.. it is very yummo and is great for you as well. It has less caffeine in it but is higher than green tea for anti oxidants - tastes great with a wedge of lemon or lime. Chai is also really nice.

texasheathers 02-02-2006 08:31 AM

Good morning y'all!

I'm going to have to try that English Toffee Tea - that sounds like something I'd love!

Mamacita - I can relate to the BIL thing. About a year after I met my husband - my BIL to be showed up at his door - and preceeded to live there for the next FOUR years. And then when we got married he wanted to move in with us - I was like noooooooooooo. He made me crazy - thank goodness - he married a woman with a little money and now he's safely tucked away in another state.

Ok - so I cut the nuts out yesterday - well - I still had my peanut butter cup dessert - but I was having that and waaaay too many nuts on top of it! So - after two days of stalled weight loss - I'm down two pounds today!!!! THANK GOODNESS!!

I'm off to take DH#! to school - hooray for Thursdays - he goes two days a week and it's the only time I can clean my house! And it's SPINNING today - so today should be a great OP day for me!!

Heather

Ruthxxx 02-02-2006 08:47 AM

Morning, Chickies! We have sun today - for now at least. January was the strangest month around here. It will be nice to get back into "regular" February winter.

Nice to see you back with us, Marianna. Chicks in Control is a great group and there is no problem with belonging to more than one group. We need all the support we can get.

Mamacita, how horrible about your friend's father! Was he very ill? It's good that she has such a supportive friend in you. BIL is moving back? Change the locks!

Pearshape, I'm feeling bloated too and can't use TOM as an excuse any more! I f9ind that even the artificially sweetened things give me cravings for more. I have some Sleepytime tea and should switch to that in the evenings.

Heather, can you find another woman with money for Mamacita's BIL? You must be pleased with the weight drop after cutting the nuts. They are killers for me too. It's too easy to go over the day's "ration".

Ruthxxx 02-02-2006 08:53 AM

Whoops! Hit post too soon!

My bath is running, the woodstove is warming up the back of the house, the recycle stuff is already out at the road and I'll be cranking up my day very shortly. I have some errands to do and still have some of yesterday's shopping in the car. My book club meets tonight and I am less than halfway through the book selection. Actually, I'd never read the darn book if it weren't for the club. Boring and full of more nautical and fishing terms that I'll ever need to know! It's "Rockbound". The last book "Swann" was interesting and I was prepared to discuss it at the last meeting which was cancelled because of the weather. I'm going to make some asparagus soup this morning and roast some beef bones for homemade stock. It'll be another full day.

By the way, at darts last night, they forced me to eat popcorn and drink wine! :(

cottagebythesea 02-02-2006 09:02 AM

Good Morning, and HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY!
He saw his shadow, so there's 6 more weeks of winter in store for us. It's been a pretty mild winter around here so far, so I'm not minding it at all.
I've tried the English Toffee tea, and I don't care for it, but I love the Chai tea, especially the Chocolate Caramel Enchantment.
Mamacita, it's a shame your BIL is moving back. We had my SIL living with us for a while, and although I love her and thought it would be great to have her here, the situation didn't work out at all. At least we're still friends! That's so sad about your friend, it's nice that you are going to be with her today.
I'm trying to get some laundry finished, and have to run to the bank and pick up some groceries before getting the little ones. I made some grilled chicken and sauteed cabbage for supper last night, so I'm taking leftovers for my lunch. Turkey burger for tonight, and Jake is having perogies (Lucky him!!).

Mamacita 02-02-2006 09:05 AM

Ruth, those SWINE!! They held you down and FORCED that popcorn and wine down your throat??? They ought to be strung up by their thumbs!!

We don't really know what kind of health L's dad was in...he'd had a little(!) accident with a riding mower a couple years back and self-amputated the lower half of one arm, but other than that, he'd seemed to be okay...but lately, she'd noticed that he'd done nothing but sit and drink beer and smoke. No energy at all. Personally, I think he was feeling like he was a burden to her and was contemplating suicide from the time she got her BC diagnosis. She couldn't leave to get better treatment b/c she couldn't leave him, etc... So, he just offed himself to get out of her way. Little did he know that the stress wouldn't exactly be beneficial to her treatment.

Stephanie Osborne 02-02-2006 09:20 AM

Well ladies another work packed day for me. I have to get in some hours at my SAH job, then I have some photos to take tonight at a basketball game. I am planning on going to work out after I convert my photos for the paper. I always make these lofty goals then really only start committing to them halfway through the month and then I wonder why I never achieve them?! I am also going to really try harder at my water intake today.

Marianna - Welcome Back!

Mamacita - OMG! I had to reread your post, to make sure I read it right the first time. That is soooooo sad. I nag my husband all the time to go to the doc....

Stay OP chickies you never know whos watching, j/k have a great day!

beach bum 02-02-2006 09:24 AM

soon2Bfab 02-02-2006 09:32 AM

Good Morning everyone....I'm very sleepy. Drinking some coffee.
Had my AVON open house last night. I got an additional $100.00 in sales, so that's good. I had an odd lady show up. The party was at 5, she showed up at 3:50. Didn't leave until 7. She had an odor to her....so not only did I clean BEFORE the party, but I clean AFTERWARDS as well. She kept asking about products ...what will clean my skin, what will get rid of acne....I thought I was going to lose my patience & tell her good old soap & water...but I didn't. I got a $40 order from her. WOW! My df's sister talked to her & the lady told Sarah (df's sister) that she worked with me at Old Navy - what?! She doesn't & I wouldn't hire her either! She was a H.A.M. sandwich (hot @ss mess!)
Well I'm off to go exercise....made a bet with a friend that I could lose more weight than her.....so I have to go kick her butt!
Have a great day!!

Schatzi 02-02-2006 09:36 AM

Soon: :cp: on a SUCCESSFUL OPEN HOUSE!!!!! (is Bill Evigall the one that goes ...."Here's yer sign"???" :lol3: ah well, I'm trying to resell the tix on craigslist..so we'll see......

Ham Sandwich... LOL, never heard that one before!

cottagebythesea 02-02-2006 09:40 AM

Schatzi, I keep getting a whiff of something strange, wonder what it could be? LOL! I need to make a hair apptm. soon, too. My roots are starting to show and the gray hair is trying to take over! There's a new salon-spa that just opened nearby, and they are having specials right now. I think I may give them a try.

Beach bum, I was rooting for the Blue Team this time, too. The other team just seemed like they weren't trying hard enough, except for the father. That show always gets me motivated to work harder, too bad it doesn't come on every day!

Barb0522 02-02-2006 09:56 AM

Morning, gals! I got ready to post earlier and then we had an outage at work and I had to deal with that. Oh, well, it is work that pays the bills and my customers are happier now that the website is working again.

I bumped up the intensity of my workout and it felt great. I can't make the resistance too high or my left knee complains but last night worked out good and I managed to squeeze in 45 min. We had leftover sloppy joes for dinner (the recipe makes enough for two dinners and some lunches) so I paired that with 3 bean salad and deviled eggs. I added in grapes for Brian since he won't eat too much of the 3 bean salad. Fast, easy and yummy!

crk05 02-02-2006 10:06 AM

Morning chicks! I have some great news this morning...I GOT INTO LAW SCHOOL!!! :cheer: :carrot:  :dancer: OK, can you tell I'm excited? My first acceptance came yesterday via a surprise phone call from the dean of admissions. This is not my top school, but pretty close - I like the location and the coursework they offer. I am thrilled because I've been so anxious to hear something. I am definitely going to be celebrating this weekend!

Mamacita ~ That is a wonderful thing you are doing for your friend. I'm so sorry t o hear about everything she's gone through. :(

Soon ~ I'm glad that you had a successful open house! The H.A.M. sandwich thing is pretty funny...:D

Pearshape ~ Toffee tea? I'm intrigued. I'm a BIG tea drinker, so am always on the lookout for interesting new flavors. (Although chai is definitely my favorite :coffee2:)

Heather ~ Congrats on the loss!!! :cb:

beachbum ~ Yes, I saw Biggest Loser! I was so happy that the blue team won. I liked both teams, but I was definitely rooting for blue. They seemed to work together so well and were just such inspiring people.

Schatzi ~ at running on natural gas!!! I hope you have fun getting your hair done today!

Barb ~ Glad to hear that your workouts are going well!

Marianna, Ruth, cottage, stephie ~ Hi! I hope you have a great day on the :sunny: beach!

SunLit 02-02-2006 10:35 AM

Chocolate Caramel Enchantment tea from CS is the hotness for tea drinkers. Very desserty. But, I also love the Kalahari Peppermint Red tea -- apparently has more antioxidants than green tea, according to the box. Any kind of minty tea has always been my favorite. Rarely any caffeine or need for sweetener.

Whole Paycheck -- I can't remember who said, but I laughed my head off. I stick to Roche Bros. (having worked there 8 years in H.S. and college), but they are very local to Mass.

Have a lovely day, everyone. I'm trying to figure out how to eat more in a day. I stuffed myself yesterday and only ate less than 900 calories, according to FitDay. Is that site accurate? After a feast of turkey, turnips and cabbage for dinner, I couldn't have shoved in one more bite, even if it was only wafer-thin.

Considering I burned 400 calories exercising yesterday, I'm wondering how I could have possibly stalled in weight loss. My body must know it's not starving.

A final question: Do turnips mash? I tried, but they only changed shape a bit. How about home-fried turnips? I'm sensing these could be a replacement for potatoes.

H-ko 02-02-2006 10:36 AM

Morning chickies!

Mamacita - ouch! I hope your friend is doing okay! Sending some :goodvibes:

pear - yes, Bob's is a relatively local (Oregon) brand, so I use their products a lot. Expensive but good.

texasheathers - those nuts can be real diet killers! Lucky for me, I don't like most nuts - only pb and pistachios - and I often forget I have pistachios, so I'm not prone to overdoing it.

christina - congrats! :cp:

H-ko 02-02-2006 10:44 AM

sunlit - turnips do mash quite well - in Scotland mashed turnips are called "neeps" (as in "neeps and tatties"). Peel the turnips (cut them into chunks to cook faster) and boil until tender (maybe 30-45 minutes for quartered large turnips). Rinse and drain them, then mash them up with a fork. Blend in some hot milk and some butter/spread to desired consistancy, and add salt & pepper to taste.

SarahinBalance 02-02-2006 11:42 AM

Break down

Mornin' ladies,

Man last night was crazy! I was in the grocery store and it was right after work so really crowded and I just kinda went nuts. Felt like buying chips that I don't even LIKE! Got over to my BF's house and brok down sobbing in his arms for no reason. Not freaking out cause I'm sure it's due to the fact that I I got my TOM 2 weeks early, the fact that losing fat is kind of like losing a good friend, the fact that I'm doing better on this diet than I EVER have with any diet and I've been wanting to lose all my life... it's a little scary... so I just gotta smile and love myself and move on... feeling a lot better today and I'm lucky that I have a BF that loves me and holds me and doesn't think I'm crazy when I break down for no reason...

Got up and did 60 mins on the eliptical this morning which was TOUGH for me but 800 calories!

Man it's nice and sunny today (which I guess means that the Groundhog saw his shadow)... I've never understood that cause you would think if the groundhog SAW his shadow then that would mean spring was coming? We haven't had a winter here in Texas so some cold weather would be welcome as far as I'm concerned!

Later gators,

Sarah

kyemom 02-02-2006 11:43 AM

morning girls!! Congrats Christina..That is great!! I am waiting for my letter from nursing school. I was pretty good last night at my dinner out, except the cheese was prob not RF, but it was sooo good!!! I am in meetings most of the day today, and getting ready to go fix my lunch..a wrap again!! Have a great day!!

texasheathers 02-02-2006 11:43 AM

CK - contrats on getting into Law School - what an accomplishment!!

Everyone that is doing great on their weight loss - hooray for you!!!

All you exercise freaks - you guys are motivating me to try to step up my workout too!

Soon - too cool about your Avon open house!! Weird about the stinky stranger.

Later y'all! I'm off to put the baby down for a nap and then to Spin SPIN SPIN.

Heather

ncola 02-02-2006 12:50 PM

Crk-- congrats! Actually, I'm currently working for the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) and I always find it amazing how much goes into getting into Law School. Lately I've been getting the urge to become a human rights lawyer, but I think this is only temporary bc of all the stuff I have to read all day :-)

sarah-- Yay for snazzy boyfriends! Luckily my bf is cool about me breaking down, too. I swear at times he must think I'm a looney, but if he does think so then he's really good at not showing it!

Today's been pretty quiet for me, work-wise. I've been getting pretty discouraged about the whole grad school thing lately. I've been talking to so many people lately; but no matter where I look for information or who I talk to, I never seem to be able to get the information I need! I'm beginning to think that all these college admission people are in cahoots with each other, conspiring against me and trying to make me go crazy by constantly contradicting each other. Either that, or I'm just getting rampantly paranoid. I choose to believe the former.

In other news, Smokey (my 3 month-old kitten) is officially nuts. This morning, after harrassing my other two cats, he proceeded to run head-first into the open door. Bewildered, he sat up after a moment, indignantly stomped over to the door, hissed and smacked it with his paw! Can you believe the door had the effrontery to attack him!?!?! :D

so anyways, I hope all of your days are going well... or as well as they can be expected to go (sorry about your friend, mamacita)

beach bum 02-02-2006 01:14 PM

Schazti- Bean will do that, take it easy on the fiber if your not used to it.Have fun at the beauty palor.

Soon-Goodluck:goodluck: on your bit with your friend, and big:cheers: congrats for the additional $100. you did great.

Cottage-I agree, we need a show like that every day to say motovated.

Christina- Big Congrats  on getting into law school. What kind of law are you going in for????????? Need more then the show to get back onto track sometimes.

Sunlit-Where do you get these dessert teas like Chocolate Caramel Enchantment tea from CS. Love:love: herbal teas, what company is CS.???
Why can't you use turnips I make turnips fries all the time??????? I LOVE to make mashed trunips also.Is there something new on the allowed list of Phase 2?????????

Hooray for the Blue Team from Peoria, IL! They rocked! It said at the end that they've added healthy options to their menu, so maybe Molly and I SHOULD go to Peoria to see how they're doing.

I just finished the last of my crockpot chili and I'm working on a yogurt. Wow, I'm ready for this day to be over. We have kick boxing tonight, so I'm excited about that, but I'm so ready for this weekend to get here.

Just a quick post.... have a lot to do today. Hope you all are doing fine!

Hi ladies...late checking in. Met with my trainer this morning - WHOO! My arms and legs are on FIRE! Feels good though to know I got in a good workout the proper way )something I haven't done in a long time).

I was going to make Tandoori chicken for dinner tonight, but one whiff of the chicken said NO WAY, so we are going out for dinner. Chicken Ceaser or Antipasto Salad sounds mighty nice to me about now.

Mariana - :welcome2: Hey there!

Mamacita - So sorry to hear that! Hope the stress eases up on you!

Pearshape - I love Bob! Just got a box of the buckwheat pancake mix.

Texasheathers - How old are your boys? Mine are 3 and 8mos.

Ruth - I LOVE book clubs. I wish there was one around me that I could participate in. BTW - wine and popcorn...that's just horrible!

Cottage - 6 more weeks of winter and I betcha it's going to be brutal :(

Stephie - Do you have a 7-11 or convience store? Go there and get one of their MEGA SUPER fountain drink cups with straw. Fill it up and chug away. I find I drink more if it's out of a straw and ice cold.

beach - Blue team rocked it - it was inspirational!

Schatzi - please don't remind me about MY gray hairs - only 5 lbs to go until my salon treat

soon2be- congrats on the open house!

Barb - deviled egg recipe please? :)

christina - OMG WAYTO GO!!!! Good luck girl!

SunLit - you might want to consider weighing your food to make sure you're getting accurate portion sizes if that scale isn't moving

Sarah - we all have those kinds of days. hope you feel better.

Heather, kyemom, nicole,weezle

Barb0522 02-02-2006 02:56 PM

Here is the deviled egg recipe that I use: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/show...48#post1114848

I've even taught Brian to help peel the eggs since he loves to eat them so much.

crk05 02-02-2006 03:14 PM

ncola - you work for LSAC? Wow, well, I'm happy to report that all my dealings with LSAC have been positive, quick, and problem-free. It's amazing how well everything went, considering how much paperwork you all have going through your offices every day, especially this time of year!

beachbum - I'm hoping to work in intellectual property, specifically patent law. I've been interested in it ever since I had a unit on it in a college sophomore-year econ & law class.

Thank you to all of you for cheering me on!

beach bum 02-02-2006 04:06 PM

Thanks:thanks: H-Ko I'm going to look for that dessert type herbal tea

Weezle-RottenBanana -Here:cheers: to us that we will achieve great results like the blue team did on the biggest lossers we can do it on the Beach:beach:

Christina-Sounds interesting. Good luck:lucky: and best wishes to our[3fat chickes] future lawyer.

Hi - just thought I'd check in.
I'm still OP & still working out. I'm finally starting to notice some difference in the way I look! Everything is smaller except my butt. That's not budging yet.
DH is doing really well at his new job & it looks like he'll be promoted really soon and he's only been there for 2 days! That's my man!
I don't have much to say today.
Have a fun day!

SunLit 02-02-2006 04:18 PM

Beachbum, it's Celestial Seasonings. I get them at Shaws/Star Market. If you're on the Cape, your stores should have similar ones. I'm in Boston. I think they carry Kalahari, too.

Rotten Banana, I could try that. But generally, I've just been eating enough of the veggies to satisfy me. If I lowered any of my portions of those, I'd be eating practically nothing.

djmommy 02-02-2006 04:20 PM

Hi everyone Kinda new her. I have been on this site some before. My other support groups seem to be dwindling some so oI think I may land in this one if you do not mind. I saw the jbiggest loser yes too. Man what a motivater. Got my butt in the gym today and had a great workout. I am starting to see some results which is all worth the effort of no carbs. Although yes I had some fresh Italin bread. Yummmm. oh well I hope once in a while is ok. Anyway good luck today . Thanks for letting me come on board/

Cathy H 02-02-2006 05:13 PM

texasheathers 02-02-2006 06:02 PM

Rotten Bananna - my boys are 3 and 1 year - don't you love 3 year olds?? LOL! Hayden is at the age now where he talks all the time - and like I can reason with him and talk to him like a person - lol. BUt boy - can he FREAK out when things are not just right!! Hayden is my spirited child - the baby - Marshall Bean (no, his name is not really bean) - he's my laid back little angel baby!!

Ok - no - I do not think there are any other women on Earth like my Sister - in -law - she came in and swept my self centered brother in law off of his feet and straightened his butt out and it's been WONDERFUL ever since - lol. I think they are in for the long haul - I actually like to hang out with them - when before I could not stand to be in the same room with my BIL - but - lol - they are like 12 hours away or something from me - so we don't see them too much - Long distance family is WONDERFUL - you only have to see the good parts of them - lol.

Heather

My 3 year old is doing something suspicious in the other room - he's supposed to be using the potty but I have a sneaking suspicion something has gone wrong - lol - so I better go check him out!!

Okay....33 days of near perfection, a 10 lb loss and I fell off plan. Geez Heather and Ruth, they ought to post a NUT WARNING. That seductive and salty snack thing got ahold of me...then the sweet cravings hit. Two days of OP eating and I fear the scale. Good news is, I am spinning for the 3rd day this week tomorrow morning.
Now the question is...do I return to Ph2 or do some penance on Ph1?

I don't want to beat myself up over this...I will get in control tomorrow. REALLY.

That depends Focused... are the cravings still there? I would go back to phase 1 for a week if after tomorrow you still are yearning fer nuts and salt and crunch...

I am soooo in love with nuts that I had to just swear them off in total.. including natural PB. To satisfy the crunch, salt, I've been doin the roasted chick peas, and baked LF pepperoni .. it's helped me get over my nut craving.

Thats my 2 cents! ;)
