Yogurt questions

  • I have some yogurt (GV brand from Walmart) and it contains Gelatin...I was told to stay away from gelatin.

Also...anyone find a brand of mayo that is safe?

That's my problem finding legal foods because I'm not 100% what's not allowed besides the obvious sugars. Is the little green book "Good Carbs Bad Carbs" useful?

I really want to be successful but I think I got too much info thrown at me at once and now I'm worrying about the wrong things.

Also if it has sugar in the label is it ok? I was told that means it has natural sugars (like dressing). Please tell me it's not as complicated as it seems LOL.
  • Ames, gelatin is just fine so don't sweat it.
The little book is useful but so is our own food list in the FAQ section.
    Here's an excerpt :
    Quote:
    Mayonnaise - Regular - 1 TBS
Mayonnaise - Low Fat - 2 TBS (avoid varieties made with high fructose corn syrup)
Salad Dressing - 2 TBS. Use those that contain 3 grams of sugar or less per 2 TBS. Best choices contain canola or olive oil. Low carb salad dressings may also be used if they meet these guidelines.
    I hope this helps.
  • Why are you supposed to avoid gelatin? Sugar-free gelatin is allowed in all phases. The gelatin in the yogurt would just be a thickener - if there was sugar, it'd list it, too.

I use Best Foods reduced fat mayo. Fat Free has a lot more sugar, so I don't use it. It's the same thing as Hellmann's - I don't know which name it goes under in Texas.

It's okay and expected for some foods (tomatoes, for example) to have some sugars in them. You want to look at where that sugar is coming from, and avoid refined sugars and other sweeteners that have a high GI (maltose, for example, which doesn't get counted in "sugars"). Most people do find the GFGCG to be helpful - you can always try checking it out at your local library to give it a trial run before you buy (and don't forget - you can buy it from Amazon via the 3FC site which will help support 3FC!).
  • Thanks!!!!
