Default Food Finds

Well I've been exploring the new grocery stores down here... and thought I would share some food finds from here and back in Jersey... Now then, let me preface this by saying..I'm not a real good cook..and hmm not really into cooking to begin with ..and some of it may be consider not a hundred percent SBish....but anyhoo... here are some of the food staples that have found their way into my WOE cupboard...

SMUCKERS Peanut Butter: Smuckers Natural PB (a Ruth tip!) and SF Strawberry or Grape jelly.
CarbOption brand: Ketchup, French and Italian dressing, BBQ sauce.. and Asian Marinade.

Russell Stovers:
Toffee Squares, Mint Patties and Turtles (WATCH THE Sorbitol on these kiddies..but they do satisfy the craving or feeling of deprivation.)

DeHarvest Mill, DelCecco or Debolla brand
whole wheat pastas

Fantastic
brand Vegetarian Chili
LLC: Laughing Cow Light

Fudgicsicle No Sugar Added and PhilySwirls
You can find Philly swirls at Sams Club.. Comes in Cotton Candy, Dreamscicle, Passion Punch and Hurricane (raspberry) Made with splenda and some sorbitol I believe...
Ken's Light Red Wine/OO dressing.(I cut it with cider vinegar to boot)
Birdseye Broccoli and Chicken in a Sesame ginger sauce (note, this is not for the SB Purist as it contains some hydrogenized stuff... but is overall very healthy, low in calories and very tasty)

Thought I'd share!

Thanks Schatzi:

I already use smuckers, fantastic & carb option products,as for the rest I have to keep looking cause in up here in N.E.we're the last to get the new products in the Market. For instance the South Beach Entrees & prod. came out in April we had to wait until June & July.

not entirely true Ruthxxx....i think we had vanilla coke before the states had it. and my hometown in ontario is regularly used as a testing ground for new products for north america. that's kind of annoying because if you find something you like it may disappear if it doesn't do well on the ptbo market.

Some of my fav's:

BirdsEye Greenbeans w/ Almonds. Yummy!!

Good high quality parmesan cheese wedge. I can eat it straight or slice it very thin and eat it with 1/2 of a sliced apple. Yum!!

SmartBeat Cheddar cheese flavor shreds (from the SBD friendly margarine producers...supp to have all the same cholesterol lowering benefits, no sat fat, 5 g fat per oz).

Keto Crumbs lc Breading Crumbs. I only use this like once maybe twice a month but it's a nice treat every once in a while. The main ingredinent is soy protien isolate. There is rice flour as one of the last ingredients but only 4 g (not counting fiber..it's loaded with that) carbs per 1/4 C..and that's way more than is used for one serving.
Kraft 2% Mexican Cheese Blend. Yummy on the Taco Bake.

Private Selection brand frozen wild blueberries. They never go bad and I just pop them in cottage cheese, mock oatmeal, or a smoothie. YUM

Tofu, regular and silken. I personally don't worry about buying the lite stuff since I've never seen even regular tofu go above 8g fat per 6 oz (which is a lot of tofu, more than I use for a serving) plus there is no saturated fat at all. There's more fat than that in even some lean meats which are used liberally on SB.

Kroger brand eggbeaters. It's better than the Meijer Brand. Eggbeaters is more expensive and not too different.

Olde Style Natural Organic Peanut Butter. Ingredients: Peanuts! That's it. Did you know that peanuts are one of the crops most heavily sprayed with pesticides? When I found out I switched to organic PB since I eat it 2 or 3 times a week.

Hershey's Special Dark Cocoa Powder

Soy Slender brand Soy milk. 3 g fiber in each cup. Yummy! I highly recommend the cappichino flavor for the SB ricotta milkshake

Carbhood fatfree lowcarb "milk". The ingredients look OK for SB even though it is a processed product. It tastes like skim milk. Only 3 g carbs per cup. I know SB doesn't focus on carbs but it does foucus on the glycemic index and this shouldn't be bad at all.

Davinchi's sf caramel syrup. A new addition to my pantry. Yum!! But I can only use about 1/2-1 Tbs at a time otherwise it tastes too strong for me. I've used it in the ricotta dessert and the milkshake. I love this stuff!!

I was really pleased to find Barilla Plus pasta. It's made from a mixture of various grain and legume flours in addition to plain ol' semolina. It's pretty nutritious. 1 cup uncooked has 17 g protein, 2 g fat, 7 g fiber, and 360 mg Omega-3. Now that we're on to ph2, we'll be enjoying some soon!

Default Thanks Schatzi

This post couldnt be more timely for me. Have just been informed that I might have to travel to US for a few months (am currently in India).
Am kinda freaking out cause I am used to the lack of temptations here and I know in US (never been there before) you guys have so much great foods and the portions are huge. When i went to Denmark for 3 weeks i put on 15 pounds (sad but true and btw why cant I loose the weight equally fast?) cause I had been deprived of so many things while staying in India. I dont want to repeat that! However it is not fair if I cant taste at least some of the goodies ! Am trying to focus my mind on all the great fresh fruits and vegetables you guys have, but images of burgers, chocolates, pasta and anything non SB keeps popping into my head. I am almost hoping they wont send me anyways
If i finally get to go I would love some advice on what to buy (will be in San Antonio, Texas) as I am completely lost with all the options. Fortuneately will get apartment with own kitchen and not hotel (would be sheer doom).

Take care
