Unhappy Another SBD Weigh In.... :(

Well, today was my second or third weigh in on the beach this time. Another depressing morning. More gain! I don't get it. My doctor said I had a really bad metabolism! I guess she was right! From what I have been reading all of the dieting can actually slow your metabolism down even more unless you do a few things to get it jump started... more then what SBD does. And I think that is true. I am going to keep reading, get all of the facts, and go from there.

I am currently reading the book "Curves" from the Curves exercise place. It is pretty interesting!!! It talks A LOT about metabolism! And it makes sence (sp?)! The diet part of the Curves diet/exercise plan seems a little confusing though. And some of the foods are blah. But I am still reading.

I have also ordered the book called "The 3 Hour Diet" by Jorge Cruise. From what I am understanding it is like a metabolism booster too! Which is probably exactly what I need! I ordered this book and I am waiting for it to arrive here. Something has got to work!

I am really starting to beleive that after the first time you do the SBD it won't work as easily! My friends (who don't have as much to lose) has noticed the same thing. I have not lost one pound since I started the SBD this time! I have actually gained a total of 4.8 pounds! And I have been following the diet! I just don't get it.

I really think I need to keep reading and learn more about the metabolism and go from there. I need to jump start my metabolism some how. Hopefully between the Curves book and the Jorge Cruise book it will help me succeed!

I am a member of the SBD site. I am thinking about cancelling it though. I can't afford to pay for things, exspecailly if it is not working. Plus, it appears, that with this site, why do I really need the other? Not only that, but the support there is not as good as it used to be! I am finding the site to be less worth while this time around.

Has anyone checked out the Curves book and Jorge Cruise's book? What did or do you think about them? And any suggestiongs, opinions, or advice? I would appreciate anything.

Thanks in advance!

~* Tracy *~

P.S. How do I make different colors and fonts in these messages?

Oh... does anyone on this site pay for the SBD site too? I just thought I would ask. It seems there is probably more support here then on the SBD site.

Hi Tracey, Hugs Girl! Are you eating too much of legal SB things? Calories count!
Are you drinking all your water? Just some questions..I know when I stall on my loss, if I reflect on what I did and didnt do, I usually find the problem..Just a thought since I too have the metabolism of a slug.

There are groups on the site for Jorge.. pop on over to it, I'm sure there are many words of wisdom.. as for curves, I had a thread yesterday about it..under the Fitness section..I'm going to try it !

P.S. Type your text, highlight what you want to change the font for... Select the font. Highlite the text again, select the color you want.. etc.
Hope this helps...Good luck Tracey!

Do you exercise?

Tracey, I believe there is a premium service on 3FC that you pay for if you want... I'm not a subscriber to it.. so it's free.

PS .. If you post your menu, the SB gurus can help you figure out if there's a problem that may be contributing to your lack of weight loss

Hi there. I would not switch to WW either... personally. Although, if you had success there... then maybe. I never had success on WW... even when I first started dieting.

I used to exercise. I love Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds videos! However, this past week I could hardly move/walk or sit due to my back being out again. But I gained less this past week then I did the week before. It is weird!

As for veggies... yes I eat plenty I would think! I eat a salad or two a day, and brocolli almost nightly for dinners. Plus I put veggies in omlets and stuff too. I have eatin the veggies this time since I started... without any success at all! The first time I did SBD... I hardly ate veggies (because we didn't care for the ones allowed... but we like them now) but this time we eat them! We lost more last time!!!

I am not the only one who gained this week... my husband gained almost everything he lost last week! It is really weird. I am so confused about diets anymore though.

Hi there. Thanks for the hugs! You all have already made my day a better one!

My problem has never been eating to much. I am one that has gone for years just eating dinner, and sometimes maybe a snack later while watching tv. I have done that for years. But, I have tried very hard to get in at least 3 meals and a snack during the day, each day! And I feel I have done well doing that.

As for my water... well... it is not what it is supposed to be... but it is much better then it was!

Do you know the web addy for Jorge Cruise? Each site I have found you have to be a member... and I believe pay for use of the site.

Good luck with Curves! Are you doing the whole plan... meals and exercise, or just the exercise program?

Thanks for the heads up on my text! I think I was finally able to make my siggy!

Gotta get the phone.. thanks for your time though! I do appreciate it!

Hi Tracy,

I'm sorry to hear about your dieting problem. It's discouraging, isn't it? Are you exercising at all? Even just a little bit will help boost your metabolism.

I know my mother (who started the SBD about a month ago) lost some weight during Phase 1, but then that was about it - I think she lost something like 1/2 lb so far on Phase 2. She's going to go back and do Phase 1 over. I think she probably had too much bread and fruit right away when she went on Phase 2 - I know she was eating both cereal and sourdough (white, not whole grain) pretty quickly after starting Phase 2. Plus fruit. But how do you tell your MOTHER that you think she might be doing something wrong?!

I don't know how you eat, so I can't say much about that of course. I know water helps, and as Schatzi said - calories do count! You shouldn't be hungry, but maybe there are lower calorie choices you could make while still getting enough to eat? The thing that appeals most to me about SBD vs other weight loss plans is that I think I could really live with it - most weight loss plans don't have a maintenence plan that seems realistic to me. After all, I am not going to go the rest of my life without ever eating a piece of or a ! So I like how SBD takes human nature into consideration.

Whatever you decide, I wish you luck!

Yes.. I did see something where you could pay for something on this site. But I think the free part is fine.

As for posting my menu on the SBD boards for help there... I have done that before. There is hardly ever a responce lately. I have put messages up... and never got a reply! Once I got a reply, asking for more info. I put in the more info and never heard anything back from it. The SBD site used to be so much better then it is now!!!

Tracy - The lettuce in salads doesn't contain much nutrition. Why don't you post exactly what you ate yesterday with amounts. You want to get 4 1/2 cups of vegetables a day. It is also possible you aren't consuming enough calories and your metabolism has shut down. It's possible that you are retaining water especially if you aren't drinking enough water. How much do you have to lose? I know increasing my exercise used to help when I would plateau. If I gained, it was often water retention due to TOM, too much sodium or not drinking my water.

Heather,

Hi there. Thanks for the reply! I sure appreciate it. No, I have not been able to exercise lately. My back went out and it takes everything out of me just to move. But I am starting to get better. I have been seeing the chiropractor on a daily basis to get better.

I never really made it to phase 2 of the beach. The first time I did SBD I stayed on phase 1 but had my days of phase 2 and 3 foods. I lost over 30 pounds in a 6 month time frame! This time (since 7/21) I have followed phase 1 to the "T" and not lost anything... I have gained each week.

I have read that once you do diets your system gets ammuned (sp?) to it and it won't work. So I am thinking a metabolism kicker so to speak lol. I am doing a lot of reading to try to resolve this. But talking to other dieters seems to help so much!

SBD is a lot easier then some other diets I have seen too. But each person has a different thoughts. My mom is against SBD! She is big time behind WW! My mother in law is the same way. But both are supportive either way.

As for your mom... I would just tell her lol. But don't hit her over the head hahaha. Just kidding of course lol. You learn more from people catching things you don't see! She might succeed better if you tell her.

Barbra,

Hi there. Normally I get in that much veggies if not more. But yesterday was different. I was not feeling well. So I didn't eat much yesterday. Yesterday I had a serving bowl of SB cereal for breakfast, a serving bowl of wheaties for lunch, and for dinner I had chicken, 2 smaller peices of chicken livers and about 4 onion rings (we get an order and share them between the whole (5 people) family) for dinner. So it was not a good day. I was not able to cook yesterday.

Normally I make a SBD phase 1 recipe for dinner. For lunch cold cuts, cheese, eggs, brocolli... whatever I feel like putting together that is allowed on phase 1. For breakfast.... 2 cups of coffee, omlet or scrambled eggs with veggies, or SB cereal or Wheaties. It all depends. I do normally follow serving sizes.

I have 74.9 pounds to lose. As soon as my back is back to normal I do plan on getting back to doing Leslie Sansone daily! So that will help. And water I could use more of I am sure. But I think I killed my metabolism.

Sorry.. not trying to be rude... but bad storms here. Don't want to lose this message so I am going to send it.

Tracy,

I'm sorry about your back - I know how you feel. After my son was born, my hip ligaments never tightened up properly, and my hips sort of went askew - which caused a LOT of pain and made walking even a few steps unbearable. PT helped, but I still have to watch it!

Can you do some of those bed-rest exercises, like for pg women on bed-rest? Maybe that would help?

Maybe, as Barb suggested, you just aren't getting enough calories, and your body is in conservation mode - especially if you aren't able to get around much right now. I remember a diet that my mother tried briefly in the 80's called the Rotation diet - it was not a healthy diet, but it did introduce (at least to me) the idea of your body going into a "conservation" or "survival" mode, where it hangs on to every calorie for dear life!

Good luck!

I'm sure you know that chicken livers aren't allowed (or regular onion rings or Wheaties) but I know that when you are sick you just have to eat what you have sometimes.

The Wheaties could be causing a problem. I don't believe they meet the SBD guidelines.

Where are you snacks? I don't see any mention of them. I try to use raw veggies as snacks to get more veggies.

You might run your exact menu including amounts through Fit Day to see where it is on calories. You might not be getting enough.
