white flour is tricky, it can be enriched wheat flour, wheat flour, white flour.
Look for whole wheat, whole grains when you in phase 2.

The big thing is no trans-fats, no sugar. Sugar is tricky too-it can be high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, rice syrup, sucrose, fructose, maltose like Jenne said those that end on -ose.

The fewer ingredients the better.

Some products will contain sugar if it it's not in the ingrediet list. That's ok, tomatoes, carrots, milk, yogurt. Those are natural sugars.

It's a hassle at first until you get the hang of reading labels regularly. And keep reading the labels each time, because food manufacturers are tricky and start adding sugar when you aren't looking. Who needs sugar in beans?
