Starting Phase 1 on 7 May

I've been doing a lot of research about SB and I think I'm finally ready to commit.
My week starts on Saturday so I'll begin then.
All the best to me :D

Bamiegurl 05-03-2005 07:24 AM

Hey! Welcome aboard!

Ruthxxx 05-03-2005 07:48 AM

Welcome, Confuzed. Funny name!

You are wise to research and prepare yourself for a successful Phase I. I am sure other folk will be joining you.

AZLowcarber 05-03-2005 11:01 AM

 Welcome!

beachgal 05-03-2005 12:15 PM

Welcome, Born!

Good planning to give yourself time to read, shop, clear the house of bad food, and read the FAQ on here. You can also plan your meals. :) The Recipe forum here has lots of great ideas!

May 9th...

I will be going on Phase I again. The kids are moving out this week, what a long time waiting for this. At any rate, I will have my kitchen to myself after this week and will be feeling more like I have some control over the foods in here and what is cooked. My dh is diabetic so no need to have any junk around at all. The real challenge for me will be the restaurant. Mostly I eat salad when there which cuts down on the need to have so many veggies at home.

I should also have more time to get on here and cheer some of you on too. Some pretty impressive losses in April for sure. :bravo:

AZLowcarber 05-03-2005 06:28 PM

Wishing you a fabulous Phase 1 :)

Islander 05-04-2005 06:34 PM

Welcome to the beach! :sunny:

2BFIT1 05-06-2005 07:03 AM

Hi Bunna. I'll be restarting phase 1 on May 9th also. I'll try to be as close to P1 over the weekend as I can. I'm hitting the store today to stock up on P1 foods. I also have not been exercising and I want to start getting back to that, too.
Monday morning I have an eye exam that will keep me at the mall for a few hours. I plan to take a small cooler and stock it with water and a snack just in case I can't find a good salad there.I expect to see you here on Monday to report in, OK? :goodluck:

Ruthxxx 05-06-2005 07:06 AM

Rather than have a May 7 and a May 9 starting thread for Phase I, I'll combine the two as Starting May 7 to 9. Just trying to make the MODs' lives easier as we read everything in here.

SwimGirl 05-06-2005 03:00 PM

I'm starting Phase 1 today! Well I tried yesterday to start.. lol.. but after a long work day.. I just didn't make it! So I'm starting today! I have to start today to be done by the Canadian long weekend, which is when my mom will be here and we will be running around town and eating out. Woo! Let's GO! :)

Patty - you around??

-Aimee

Mirabelly 05-06-2005 03:59 PM

Hi everyone!

I'm not new to 3FC, but I'm new to SBD....I started phase 1 today, and I'm going to try to get dh to do it too. He's a mess right now with kidneystones, pains in his back, knees, you name it. We're both just sick of being in pain all the time. I know if we lose the rest of our weight, things will feel better.

I lost 50 pounds a year and a half ago, but over the past year I've just been maintaining. Now, I'm noticing my weight creeping back up and my old habits coming back. I just have to get the last 50 pounds off me!

So, here's to all of us! We can do it!! :cheer:

Julie

beachgal 05-06-2005 05:01 PM

Bunna!!! It's SO good to see you again! :D I'm glad you are finally getting the kitchen back to yourself! Check out the sticky in the FAQ on veggies and make sure those salads are packed full of nutrition, okay? :grouphug:

Islander, I find going out to eat much easier if I plan ahead...look at the menu (many are online) and figure out what is a good choice. Then I can plan the rest of my day around it. I hope that helps! :D

Julie, I love the quote in your sig! I know you can do this! :D

Sil, sounds like you are planning ahead. Good going, girl! :goodvibes:

active 05-06-2005 05:37 PM

Starting P1 Monday, I too will clean out the fridge, pantry and PREPARE for the next 2 weeks. :)

Bunna, Guess what even as we speak my son is cleaning his dorm,(that's an oxymoran, SON Cleaning) to move back home for the summer. So here's the food plan one cabinet for his food and one shelf in the spare fridge in the garage for his sodas and stuff. Sounds good in print, now lets just put it into ACTION!!!

Glad we are all in this together !!!

Wanda

1day@atime 05-06-2005 07:32 PM

Hello ladies,
Count me in. I tried to restart ph1 this past monday and didn't even make it to tuesday. To many things going on, the main thing I was not prepared with my snacks or food. Going to committ to starting on Monday.

Aimee - i'm here, it was a rough week, lots of day traveling for work, so I snacked while driving, then to top it off it's the week before TOM and my cravings were out of control.

SwimGirl 05-07-2005 03:39 AM

So, I didn't make it thru today. I was doing SO good, had a good breakfast, lunch and dinner, no bad snacking, soo great! And then it happened. On our way home from work (my bf and I work in the same mall and were off at the same time), the car wouldn't start. 2 hours later, 3 boosts by 3 different people, gas, and one really frantic call to GM roadside, it started. And on our way home we saw a reallllly bad car accident, and being so tired that I was I completely fell apart. I ended up curing that with food, 1 burger and fries. BAD!

Patty - glad you are still around :) Sometimes life is more important than losing weight, I guess seeing that horrible car accident made me think. It's humbling.

MarineTubaMom 05-07-2005 07:52 AM

Oh, Aimee, that is SO easy to do...I can absolutely relate... when I get stressed out, I'm definitely a comfort eater... my bad thing that I tend to reach for is ice cream... every single night without fail, right around 9:00 p.m., i start to crave it.. BAD... I'm getting better at warding off the cravings though.... but it's hard....

you are certainly not alone!

And good luck to all of us starting over!

Mirabelly 05-07-2005 08:28 AM

Hi everybody!
One day down, 13 to go....

I almost caved so many times yesterday. I'm just not used to ignoring all the lucious fruit I have around for the kids. I have 3 kids...6, 9, and 11. This morning it was hard to eat my usual bacon/eggs with out that slice of buttered toast, but I made it.

Dh is doing this with me, but I have to be the strong one and say "no, you can't just have one soda!" It will help him so much, if we can just stick with it.

These 2 weeks are going to be tough, but I just keep telling myself...only 13 more days.

Aimee, I'm a comfort eater too. Don't beat yourself up over it, just get right back on that horse and start over.

I have to get going now. The kids have a track meet. But STAY STRONG everyone! We can do this!!

JUlie

BornConfuzed 05-08-2005 05:14 AM

I started on Friday so 2 days down, 12 more to go!
I was at a party on Friday, and the food looked amazing, but I didn't eat anything! I'm proud of myself :) !

Mirabelly 05-08-2005 08:26 AM

2 down, 12 to go for me too! I don't know if I'm lighter, but I feel lighter. Except for that heavy steak I had last night. I'm seriously missing my rye toast in the mornings, though.

COnfused==congrats on passing up the party food!

1day@atime 05-08-2005 10:45 PM

Hello Ladies,

Aimee - You are so right, sometimes it takes seeing a car accident to really put things in perspective. And yes, sometimes we make bad food choices, but the key it to get back on track.

For me, I knew I was staring SBD tomorrow, so today I ate whatever I wanted and believe me I ate.

Here's to a good week.

SwimGirl 05-08-2005 11:16 PM

Patty - I did the same thing I always do, had an on plan breakfast, and lunch, and snack.. but for dinner we had a sub from subway. I don't get it, I keep ruining my diet. I am really wanting to be on plan.. or I guess maybe I don't? I'm going to try and get there tomorrow.. it's just the dinner time I have to worry about. Keep up the good work! Make sure you drink all your water! :)

Hi all,
3 days down, 11 to go! I went out to eat yesterday, and didn't even cheat! I went to the movies, and didn't have any popcorn (or anything else for that matter)...I"VE NEVER done that before!!

Hope you all had a great weekend.
Julie

BornConfuzed 05-09-2005 08:19 AM

3 down 11 to go!
Whenever I pass by the vending machine, I close my eyes! Nothing in there that suits SB so I better not look and get tempted!

Mirabelly: No popcorn at the movies??? WOW!

Good luck to everyone, I hope you have the strength to finally get started :)

Only a few days in... and tired!

Hi everyone,

I started SBD officially on the 4th of May; if you're interested in my story, you can read it here http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57644

I am finding it very easy to do so far and I guess the best part is that I don't feel hungry all the time. And I feel physically lighter - not all bloated and overstuffed. What concerns me a little bit is that I'm more tired - I slept something like 10 hours last night, unintentionally and then still felt tired when I got up. What is up with that? Yikes. I've been sleeping like a stone. I'm not sure if its the diet or the fact that I took a 5 mile walk yesterday... I've done that before and don't remember being this fatigued. I am trying to figure out what is missing in my diet that I can pick up the energy!

I'm also working on strategies to reduce the fat and especially saturated fat - might switch to better cheese and maybe Egg Beaters. I'm learning... I will probably do the Phase 1 for 3 weeks just so I can learn from my mistakes in the first!

BornConfuzed 05-09-2005 11:28 AM

I'm a bit confuzed here, are we allowed diet coke in phase 1?

beachgal 05-09-2005 12:42 PM

Swim, you know that you are having problems with dinner, so plan ahead to avoid that sabotage. Do you have a crock pot? If so, put some White Chili in there and have it read for you when you come home. If not, bake a taco bake tonight and have it in the fridge waiting for you tomorrow night. You CAN do this!!! :strong:

Marine, I know that late night craving! I find that just getting out of the room helps. Go somewhere where there isn't food and keep those hands busy! A computer game upstairs works for me, but you could try a bubble bath and a book, crossword puzzle, crafts, knitting or crocheting, playing cards with DH, playing a board game with your kids, going for a walk, etc. Try brushing your teeth when you are done eating. And make sure there is no ice cream in your house! You can do this!!! :workout:

Confuzed, GREAT work with that party!!! :bravo: :cp :cp: Yes, you can have any kind of diet soda in Phase 1, but keep your servings of caffeine (a serving of soda is 8oz...very small...) to no more than two a day. That may mean more caffeine free diet coke than regular diet. Also, you need to aim for at least 64 oz of water a day, and soda does not count for that, so make sure you are drinking WAY more water than soda, okay? :D

Liz, you are doing a great job of getting those veggies and water in! Check your food through fitday if you get a chance, though. I'm wondering if you are getting enough calories. :?: You want to make sure you are getting at least 1200.

Julie, going to the movies and no popcorn? That's a huge "Non-Scale Victory" as Ruth termed it!!! :cheer: Good for you!!! :bravo: Does that mean it's not all about food? :lol3:

Tia, I was very tired for the first couple days of Phase 1, too. I think it's your body trying to figure out the blood sugar thing. My body figured out that if it made me feel like my blood sugar was dangerously low, I'd eat something sugary. I ended up feeling like that a lot, even when there was no reason. :dizzy: The psyche is something else! Anyways, the symptoms go away anywhere from 3-5 days. If you are still sleepy after five days, make sure you are getting your water (dehydration makes you sleepy) and check with your doctor. Until then, don't stress too hard, or try too hard to exercise. It's tough to keep up with your exercise regimine in Phase 1, especially the first week. Just take it easy until you get to Phase 2. Then you can get back into your regular exercise plan if you took a break, okay?

tiatortuga 05-09-2005 01:36 PM

Makes sense

Thanks Laurie - makes sense. I'm probably just adjusting like you said. I've never thought of myself as a big suger eater but I also didn't realize how much the carbs I ate were affecting me. I usually turn down sweets and pastries as it is - and only crave chocolate once a month. But I was really downing the fruit and rice and potatoes before. Maybe my five mile hike was too much in the first week - it is just so much a part of my weekend "escape from the web" routine. But this time with nuts in my pocket instead of power bars :)

1day@atime 05-09-2005 08:37 PM

Hello Ladies,
Did not have a good start today. Things got hetic and I skipped lunch, next thing you know i'm overeating. And to top off, it's TOM, so I'm having lots of cravings. Tomorrow is a new day and I'm committed to getting back on track.

Beachgal - Where did you get the recipe for the taco bake?

jpleonard 05-09-2005 09:15 PM

I am back to start Phase 1 again. I lost my wagon; so I had to get a new one to get back on. I recruited my dh, we started on the 8th (wonder how long he will last?). Good luck to all; send some wishes my way. I'll need all the help I can get

Mirabelly 05-10-2005 07:57 AM

4 days down, 10 to go!!!
I can't believe I've made it this far. Suddenly, I'm not really all that hungry. I guess there really is something to that whole craving thing.

Hope everyone is having a great day!
Julie

Ruthxxx 05-10-2005 08:27 AM

Good going, Julie. You are definitely detoxing if the cravings are in abeyance.

tiatortuga 05-10-2005 09:20 AM

So far so good, but...

I feel like I'm about 85% successful in keeping this phase 1 stuff going. I started on 5/4 - so I joined this group because I'm just getting my foots wet :)

Also, I assume its okay to do it for 3 weeks if I am just learning the ropes this time around, right? I guess what concerns me is the fat - after a lifetime of avoiding the fat grams, its really freaky to see how much fat I'm consuming in the reports of FitDay, where I'm tracking my consumption. I'm trying to develop some normal, realistic meal plans for myself, and learn to automatically make the right choices - by initially tracking each meal (in other words, I don't plan to do this forever!). So, seeing the fat percentage being so high is like - YIKES! But I'm eating what is okay'd in the book so I guess I just need to find more lower fat alternatives (ie., egg beaters more often instead of eggs). I've never had a sweet tooth - definitely more of a fat tooth - so I guess that is the challenge for me. Plus, I keep reminding myself that if my carbs are way down - where else can percentages stack up but fat and protein?

What is amazing to me is that I am still eating throughout the entire day, smaller meals, and more often - which is great. And I'm not having the horrendous cravings i used to get - the "get out of the way or i'll run you over for that chocolate" feeling :) I'm learning to actually recognize the feeling of hunger - real hunger - and its not something I've got a lot of experience with so its very interesting! I usually either had those crashes - or ate all the time so i'd never feel that way.

The other thing that is interesting is that in the past when I tried a new way of eating, I used FitDay also and could NEVER keep myself in the caloric range it suggested for weight loss without being ravenous. For my height and weight, to lose would be under 2,000 calories today. And with the SBD plan, I'm eating all day, not hungry at all - and usually barely breaking 1600 calories a day, most days. So I'm bound to lose weight. I definitely don't miss carbs - I miss fruit, and I worry about the fat but so far, it seems to be good. We'll see what my cloths and the scale say in a couple weeks :)

So I say - so far so good! My sweetheart is being very supportive, even though he kind of likes my round parts - he could stand to do with me but he's not really overweight (just a bit of a belly) but since he will eat anything I cook and we don't have kids, its working out very well.

Mirabelly 05-11-2005 06:44 AM

5 days down, 9 to go! I can't believe I'm still doing this. I gave up cake and punch at my daughter's DARE graduation last night....

Hope all is well with you all, too. Don't get discouraged...you can do it!

Julie

BornConfuzed 05-11-2005 10:26 AM

So when are you going to weigh yourselves?
I'm not sure, should I weigh myself this friday, when the first week will be over, or should I wait until the end of phase 1?

1day@atime 05-11-2005 08:07 PM

Hello Ladies,
This is day 2 for me and going pretty good. Having a problem with drinking the water.

Bornconfused - I think the weighing is a matter of opinion. I think most dr's or even Ww programs say to weigh weekly cause you weight fluctuates so much. As for me, I like to see the numbers go down and that is a motivator for me, except when they up of course.

Mirabelly - WTG on skipping the cake and punch. Don't you just feel empowered knowing you skipped the cake. YOU GO GIRL!

Aimee - where are you?

SwimGirl 05-11-2005 09:22 PM

Patty - I'm having issues.. infact, I haven't start phase 1 at all. I've been feeling pretty sick lately.. my body just doesn't feel balanced if that makes sense. So I'm trying to eat an all around balanced diet, but mainly just eating fruits and veggies with some lean protein. Thats why I've been away.. I'm over in miscellaneous clubs under "gettin' together May 2005". Keep up the great work with SB, I totally wish I could handle that right now.. soon I will :)

-Aimee

HoosierHeather 05-11-2005 09:39 PM

This is day 2 for me, too. This is really, really hard for me. I'm not big into sweets but I LOVE CEREAL! All kinds of cereal!! That's the hardest thing for me. But, I keep telling myself that in 12 more days I can have a small serving of high-fiber cereal. I feel pretty cranky and feel hungry most of the time. And, I'm eating a little more than what the phase 1 meal plans outline, I think. Here's what I ate today, maybe you guys can tell me if this is good?...

Breakfast: low fat cottage cheese, crystal light (not a big egg fan)
Snack: three green olives, 1/2 slice lowfat cheese
Snack #2 (because I was hungry an hour later!): 15 peanuts
Lunch: grilled salmon, mixed greens salad w/ olive oil vinaigrette
Snack: 4 pcs celery with natural peanut butter
Dinner: Broiled pork tenderloin, mashed cauliflower, steamed spinach, DCoke
Dessert: SF pudding cup

Why am I so hungry all the time!? When I look at it like that, it seems like plenty of food.

I do have a 2 year old daughter who I chase around most of the day... plus I workout almost every day, but rarely over 30 minutes. In fact, in the past 2 days, I've cut it back to 15 minutes because I don't want to make myself even hungrier!

Will the hunger pass? I keep hearing 3-5 days and you start to feel better.

Thanks in advance for any advice! :)
