I just love seeing and hearing about eveyone's pets!

The vet discovered Lucy has a bit of an ear infection which may be causing her some grief when she eats. I've got some stuff to put in her ear three times a day which should clear it up fast. She did eat last night and once again this morning so we are probably over the hump.

Here's a pic of my little Shelby (in the bed that I made for her). She's a 4.19# Yorkie who is the canine love of my life. She is spoiled and truly thinks that she is a human. She is almost 12 yrs old and is starting to show her age (bless her little heart). She recently recovered from a slipped disc in her back and is not back to her old self (fussing at the cat).

My other canine is Kasey (almost 13 yrs ) and she is a Yorkie-Poo. Friendly, affectionate and extremely loyal. She now has bladder stones and will be having surgery in about a week.

My cat is Miller (5yrs), named after our neighbor , Rusty,who found him abandoned in a ditch. Rusty drank alot of Miller Lite beer, hense the name. He's an orange Tabby who tries to make friends with any other cat that comes around, which has lead to a few trips to the vet.

Our menagerie:

We have MAXX: a huge Siamese/gray stripe mix cat we got from the Humane Society. He is almost 5 years old. He weighs about 16 lbs and isn't overweight. He is a mild tempered cat who is the love of my daughter's life. We lost his sister PIXXIE who was much smaller than him about 4 years ago, and it was devastating.

Then we got little miss BAILEY: a Lhasa Apso. She is about 9 lbs, very small for a Lhasa. She is a bundle of joy and frustration all in one!!! She just turned one on Sunday. She still chews on things, and has seemed to regress on potty training. It's back to the crate I believe. She has the most expressive face and the kids love to play with her.

We also have BLOSSUM the box turtle that I got from a student about 3 years ago. Then there is GIZMO the bearded dragon. Both are neat pets to have.

We just lost a Bala Shark and a Hermit Crab, all in about 10 days. Hubby has a HUGE 200 gallon fish tank, but we haven't had the money to set it up since moving here. He has to buy all new filtration and lighting - the old stuff was hand me downs and didn't make the move!

So that is it for our family, for now!!! I'm sure the kids will get new fish and crabs sometime soon. They also want a frog. We used to have one, but it died.

I have a cat - his name is Thunder. He's part Siamese & Himalayan. I got him from a shelter in Toledo. He's 8yrs & have has a big belly and it moves side to side when he runs! Although I adopted Thunder, when Mike & I decided to move in together, Thunder decided to become a daddy's boy.....he sleeps on Mike's side of the bed & follows him everywhere! He even sits by the door when Mike go out to get the mail - how disgusting!

:lol3: about the common sense and Godiva's attitude. :D Perfect. Our dog is somewhat lacking in common sense as well. I have a friend who has a beagle and says that beagles have to share brains....they only get to use the brain about once a week. ;)

I have a chinchilla named Sunny Bunny, hence my nickname! She is apricot in color and a beautiful. We got her in 1996, so she is 9 and she is a very schizaphrenic little creature.

I was a total naive when I bought her. She was so cute and cuddly, but then we brought her home and she chewed everything in site (bible, shoes, purse, wood, metal, me). I hated her, but now she is a part of my little family. We don't have kids so she is our baby.

I would not ever recommend chinchilla as a pet though, they are just not that friendly and require expensive maintenance. I would not go back and do it again if given the choice I would have gotten a bunny or cat or something.

Wow, it is SO great to hear all these stories and read about your furkids. I definitely would love to see more pictures!!! :D Sil, your Shelby is too darling for words. Will you make me a chair? That chair is FABULOUS!!! :faint:

Sunny, what an exotic pet! :D She sounds gorgeous! I bet she is the softest little girl ever!

Bunnies are pretty expensive, and they chew as much (if not more) than Chinchillas. They are very delicate, and you have to watch them constantly for changes in eating and pooping habits, as even a slight change undetected can lead to death. :( They are a great joy, though, especially when people are wise enough to litter train their buns and let them roam freely. :D

We tried to litter train our sunny bunny but she decided to eat the litter box and the litter instead. She even ate the newspaper that her own pee was on ... so go figure.

Laurie - Your bunnies are soooo cute. When I was younger, we raised rabbits (for 4-H & selling them as pets for Easter) We had New Zealand White & they had the red/pink eyes - freaky! You should see them when they are babies - no fur - gross!
Your male bunny looks like a Califorian breed - VERY CUTE!!!! My sister still have a dwarf rabbit, but he's not litter trained, stubborn I guess!

OMG, I'm just loving this thread. It's so fun to be able to see and hear about all of your animal companions.

Lovely pictures! I can feel the softness of our pets - even the parrots and fish!

My Girls are all decked out in their red and blue company scarves right now and are waiting for Ellis to visit. Scarves are special and they know it. It also helps to tell them apart as they are almost identical in looks right now - Lucy's eyes are a lighter brown but that's about it! The minute I pick up a scarf they get all excited because they know something different is going to happen - company, Church, car ride, etc.

Actually, just Sidney the "troubled" cockatoo has run up the vet bills. Everybody else pretty much gets an annual physical and shots (semi-annual for Godiva since she is a "senior cat").

We hatched Sidney from an egg. He was fine until he hit puberty. Then he suddenly didn't want to be handled and started feather plucking because he was frustrated which, in turn, caused him to not fly well. He split open a spot that needed 7 stitches, antibiotics, etc. When we thought it was healed, we retained "the bird whisperer" to work with him. Here in Los Angeles, you can get psychological help for your pet no matter what the species!

Anyway, the bird whisperer was making progress when Sidney flopped on the floor again and had to be rushed back to the vet. Another 7 stitches and the same routine. Then it happened a third time and we decided with the vet not to have it stitched but to let the tissue granulate in. After all, he's not so vain that it will bother him to have a scar under his tailfeathers. :cool:

So now we are not bothering the poor bird with treatment or training until he gets some feathers and the area heals. We are putting some homeopathic anti-stress stuff in his water and he seems to not pluck as much. He also gets a bath every other day and that helps too. We are looking forward to the day when we can have the bird whisperer back.

When I have a digital camera again I will take some pix. Now you see why it says "parrot crazy" by my icon. :dizzy:
