New Finds!

Where have you eaten out lately and found great SBD choices? Post them here so we can all share in your knowledge! :D

I recently went to a Borders Cafe in Ithaca. They have a lot of unique SF syrups! In fact, they even have a blended, iced coffee drink called a Kahlua Mudslide Mocha that they make SF! :faint: It was SO good, and walking around a mall with it in hand made me feel so normal again. :o

I got lunch at a Chili's in Ithaca last week. They have a menu section called Guiltless Grill and lots of the items on there look SBD safe. I got a black bean burger. I asked for a whole wheat roll, which they said they had. When I got it, it looked pretty white for whole wheat...I suspect it had a great deal of enriched flour, so next time, I'd bring my own roll, but the burger was great. It came with steamed broccoli with garlic and parmesan, and a side of black beans with tomatoes. Yum! :T

OUr Rock Bottom Brewery has a lowcarb/lowcal menu that has a beachy meal on it. Grilled chicken breast, steamed asparagus and house salad with lf dressing :) Yummy!

karen joy 04-21-2005 05:13 PM

mmmmmmmmm....sounds yummy!

amyepfaff 04-21-2005 08:39 PM

Macaroni grill has Skinny chicken... Grilled chicken breast with a balsamic vinegar glaze, steamed spinach, fresh tomato and olives. Its great.

Barb0522 04-22-2005 09:42 AM

Cozymel's (Mexican) has low carb fajitas. Grilled steak, chicken, shrimp, fish or veggies served with lettuce leaves. It comes with grilled vegetables instead of rice and with black beans instead of refried. Just make sure to pass up the chips!

Applebee's Chicken Skillet meal on their Weight Watcher's menu comes with a Whole Wheat tortilla and is full of veggies and chicken.

kellyjoiii 04-22-2005 10:19 AM

I eat at Ruby Tuesday's alot and they have a pretty good low carb menu (I havent asked about WW rolls or such due to they kindof start binges in me :)) At least I know that I can pretty much eat there without the guilt.

beachgal 04-22-2005 10:38 AM

Ruby Tuesday's is a standby for us...they have a quesadilla made with a whole wheat tortilla and veggies that is delicious! I love that their menu has calories/fat/fiber on it. :)

Any other ideas, chickies?

AdiaFaith 04-22-2005 10:44 AM

Laurie - That SF Drink at Borders sounds sooo good. The next time I'm up there I'll have to grab one!

I eat Spinach Artichoke stuff from Chilis. It's got a bit of mozzerella, Spinach, Artichoke, onions, mushrooms. I have some at home, bought at Sam's, put it serving size baggies and freeze it. A quick meal on a WW tortilla!

kellyjoiii 04-22-2005 11:46 AM

Hey girls...has anyone tried epicurious.com? If you put in low carb in the search...it gives you 480 recipes..lots of things to chose from....I am gonna make a few of these.....

eajohnson 04-23-2005 02:59 PM

Friday's has an atkins menu that is so good. i had chicken with salsa verde and fresh vegetables that was excellent. it's not south beach, but most all of it works.

MallynAllysmom 04-25-2005 08:37 AM

I just ate at a TGI Fridays last week. Had this salad with chicken and black beans. It was so good! I'm sure the BBQ sauce had sugar in it though. I'll have to ask for it w/out next time. I didn't eat the corn that was in it either (I'm still on Phase 1).

beachgal 04-25-2005 03:23 PM

Yup, the BBQ sauce has lots of sugar. :yikes: But we've all made those mistakes. I find looking at the website for the restaurant (if possible) helps a lot. Otherwise, I just ask if things have sugar. You'd never believe what does! :faint:

Yesterday I got to looking at the Boca frozen products, and found that their chili is SBD approved. I made it today, and for 150 calories, you can't go far wrong! I put some light cheese and sour cream in it, and found the texture of the boca crumbles a little gummy, but not bad. It had black beans, which was yummy. :D

That chicken with salsa verde is a new one to me...it sounds delicious!!!

beachgal 04-29-2005 12:02 PM

Did anyone else find the Jell-o SF pudding cups yet? They are divine!!! :faint: They even come in a chocolate-vanilla swirl!

I dipped some strawberries in the chocolate one for a treat this week. It was really good. :T

Barb0522 04-29-2005 12:52 PM

Mine has the FF ones but not the sugarfree. But it is so easy to just make it from scratch that we have pudding almost every evening. My son loves it with fruit mixed in, a little whipped cream and a marchino cherry on top. I skip the cherry and the whipped cream (because I don't care for whip cream much). I've even taught DH how to make it and now he handles it.

beachgal 04-29-2005 01:09 PM

Barb, that sounds great! Your family is so supportive, and I think that's fabulous! I especially love how healthy Brian eats. I'm going to need to ask you for tons of advice on how to get my kids to eat that healthy! :D

For me, the little cups work well though because they limit my portions, are easy to transport without having to spoon in another container and then wash the container, and I can get them cheap at Sam's. :D I wish I was less wasteful, though...like you. I know all those little containers are not good for the environment. :(

beachgal 05-02-2005 10:57 AM

I love Annie's products (and not just because they have a bunny as a mascot... ;) ). They recently came out with organic WW pasta and cheese (i.e. mac and cheese with WW pasta). Yum!!! :T

Barb0522 05-02-2005 01:21 PM

I've seen that in the stores but figured the cheese packet would be too high in bad stuff even if the pasta was okay. Is it really OP?

beachgal 05-02-2005 01:43 PM

Check it out...from what I remember, it was just basically cheese. Being organic, they stay away from nasty things like hydrogenated oil. :D

Here's the ingredients:
Quote:

Made with only the best vegetarian ingredients: Organic Durum Semolina Pasta (Organic Durum Wheat Flour, Water), Organic White Cheddar Cheese (Organic Cultured Pasteurized Milk, Salt, Enzymes), Whey, Salt.
They make wonderful products, and I was thrilled to see a whole wheat version! You can find out more here: http://www.annies.com/products/orgww.html

Barb0522 05-02-2005 01:57 PM

I usually try to stay away from cheeses that aren't reduced fat. But this might be okay as an occasional treat. Usually I just make my own sauces for pasta.

MarineTubaMom 05-04-2005 02:29 PM

There is a restaurant in Charlotte called Harper's. They have a Mediterranean menu (you have to ask for it) and I get the grilled chicken breast sandwich (minus the bread) so that has lettuce and tomato on the side, then steamed broccoli and cauliflower.. it's awesome!

Bamiegurl 05-04-2005 02:54 PM

Aileen...Glad to see ya back! We've missed you!

Ruthxxx 05-04-2005 04:03 PM

Jeez, Beachgal, didja have to start this thread? We can't get that yummy stuff up here in The Great White North and I'm drooling. We do have Swiss Chalet where you can order chicken breast and salad but....... :(

beachgal 05-04-2005 05:03 PM

See, now I've never even heard of Swiss Chalet! Tell me more... :chin: I have to admit that your local restaurant (Long Horn?) sounds yummy too. :T

You can always come south and visit and we can check out cool places together! :D Just keep those :censored: Timbits, butter tarts, and beavertails on your side of the border, okay? ;)

Bamiegurl 05-04-2005 05:38 PM

I am not sure if it is the same that Ruth has up there but we have Longhorn Steak House down here. I love it!

beachgal 06-21-2005 05:34 PM

Hey, all! Had to search to find this thread again...

I picked up a box of SF Philly Swirl popsicles at Sam's Club a month ago. I whipped through the box in short order and am now on my second. They are DELICIOUS!!! They are supposed to be like Italian ices on a stick. 10 cals each and so yummy... I guess the company is owned by a family and they lucked out in getting Sam's to carry their popsicles on trial. I don't know if they are sold anywhere else, but they are worth looking for. Here's info:

Official website: http://www.phillyswirl.com/
Info on SF Philly Swirls: http://www.phillyswirl.com/products/sfstix.cfm ( I think the 'Paradise Punch' flavor tastes like the 'Big Stick' popsicle I used to get at the beach when I was a kid...)

jenne1017 06-22-2005 10:47 AM

I ate at Chilis the other night and had the guiltless salmon with double veggies instead of beans (which looked to have a sauce with them -- so I opted out).

Also ate Thai last night. Forgot to ask for no rice but got Beef Pik King -- string beans and beef in curry paste -- little to no sugar, I was assured. The beans are usually tempora but I asked for them sauteed with the beef only. I did miss my Thai Iced Tea though!!

I don't find eating out a problem anymore, on Phase 1 even! I just asked for things grilled and not in butter/oils -- dry rubs instead of sauces or I add my own dressing to things. Works wonders!

mamaeli 06-22-2005 10:41 PM

All right, I've already mentioned the very yummy Carb Escapes soy ice cream, made by a company called Turtle Mountain. Way better than the SF ice cream I've had. Found at Kroger's in the organics section.....

Also at Krogers, and this stuff is really great, have had it on salmon, chicken and tilapia---Chef's Harvest "dressing and produce dipping sauce" in Ginger Soy Wasabi. Mmmmmmmmm. I've used it as a marinade, so far--no sugar, 1 g. carbs, all natural, the only thing maybe objectionable is it has carrot in the ingredients. Found by the Marie's and Marzetti's dressings in the packaged lettuce section.

Did I mention the soy ice cream has 10 g. fiber per serving? !!!

My DBF bought the SBD cookies tonight. We tried them & ladies....save your money!! Taste wasn't that great & they are hard as a rock. I rather have a peanut butter cup than these cookies! YUCK!!!

Schatzi 06-24-2005 08:09 PM

Soon2bfab: I second that! I bought the oatmeal chip cookies and youcan hammer nails with them and tasteless, YEECH!
And Don't buy the SBD breakfast cereal..very sweet and not that tasty... I shant be buying any other SBD brands....

I try to stay with whole foods, but must admit I made some purchases for DH Atkins diet... The Carb Options brand has some very good condiments..
With 0 fat or 0.5 fat , and no sugar (replaced by splenda)
The BBQ sauce is fab on chix.....
Steak Sauce (just like A1)... the ketchup - can't tell the diff.... and
Asian Teriyaki Marinade... FABU on chick and pork

Sorry, I digress..... Love Longhorns, had a petite filet mignon, extra steamed veggies and a salad... Told them to please no bread (I would have caved!) on the table... I felt deprived of dessert but luckily we have a homemade candy store down the street... We bought huge strawberries dipped in dark chocolate.... ABCDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEElicious :smug:

jenne1017 06-24-2005 09:08 PM

tonight I tried regular ice cream and I threw it away. So not worth it. Had some spinach and shrimp in garlic and butter (I know) -- HB took me out to dinner. It was going to be Buca Di Beppos :fr: but I asked her not to since there is NOTHING basically on the menu that I can eat.

no other finds yet but thanks for all the suggestions! I am going to hit Trader Joes on payday (Tues).

Schatzi 06-24-2005 09:31 PM

YOU DID GREAT for DINNER!!!! I guess your tastebuds and priorities are changing 4 the better... ice cream is a weakness for me...not sure I could ditch it..YET

jenne1017 06-25-2005 08:19 PM

I am not a huge fan of ice cream. Now, BBQ potato chips are another story :)

I haven't had chips in any form or flavor in about a month now. Yay but sigh as well ;)

wenchybritches 06-26-2005 12:09 AM

Chicks, I just found a new natural peanut butter at the store.
Its made by Skippy. And you don't have to stir it! AMEN to that! :D

And I also found an inexpensive SF syrup made by Cozy Cottage and its made with Splenda.

And saw some SF jelly made by Polaner. Also made with Splenda.

KellyBelly 06-26-2005 01:22 AM

I'll have to look for the Skippy natural pb. 'Cause the stirring kind is about the grossest thing I've ever seen!

Heidi 06-26-2005 08:21 AM

I've been using the Becel (pump) spray-on topping, which claims to have 0 cals and 0 fat. I suspect that drinking the bottle would go beyond the trace amounts, but for 5 sprays they claim 0. I like to spray it on steamed veggies for a bit of flavour and on fish so the topping (Mrs Dash Garlic) stays on. Has anyone else tried it?

You might want to check the ingredients on that so-called natural Skippy PB: Roasted Peanuts, Sugar, Palm Oil, Salt. They've added sugar and one of the unhealthy tropical oils to good old peanuts and salt. ;)

wenchybritches 06-26-2005 10:51 AM

I must have been tired last nite at the store. I thought I looked @ it and I didnt see sugar. Darn it! Well, at least I tried. :(

I know, I was so mad when I picked it up and turned it around only to see they replaced ingredients w/ that dreaded sugar!!!

Maybe some company will come out w/ a good one w/out sugar and the oil on top, hey one can hope...right? ;)

jenne1017 06-27-2005 02:22 PM

The oil is just the natural oil in the peanuts girls!! Stir once then put in the fridge and you are golden!!!

wenchybritches 06-27-2005 09:39 PM

OOOOO Jenn! I love you! :lol3:
Thanks for that tip. I cant take the stiring. Might pull another muscle.
