Bean help...

  • I love beans and am one phase 1. Can anyone tell me what kind of beans I can eat? Are there any canned beans I can eat?
  • All types of beans are okay. Just be sure you read the labels to see if anything else has been added. I noticed with the butter beans that my dil bought they have added sugar.
  • Here's the most current list of beans that are allowed:

    BEANS/LEGUMES
    (Start with 1/3 - 1/2 cup serving)
    Adzuki Beans
    Black Beans
    Black-eyed peas
    Broad Beans
    Butter Beans
    Cannellini Beans
    Chickpeas or Garbanzo
    Edamame
    Great Northern Beans
    Italian Beans
    Kidney Beans
    Lentils
    Lima Beans
    Mung Beans
    Navy Beans
    Pigeon Peas
    Pinto Beans
    Soy Beans
    Split Peas
    White Beans

Just look for beans that only have a few ingredients (beans, water, salt) and make sure you there isn't any added sugar in the ingredients. Avoid the salt in the beans if you're able to as well.....sometimes it adds a TON of sodium!
  • Thanks so much! I love soy beans!
  • Stephie, you can have soy beans in all sorts of ways too. The recipe for edamame (fresh soybeans) in the SBD cookbook is phenomenal! I love adding roasted soy nuts (which are actually soy beans, not nuts) to my salads in place of croutons. Yum!

The sugar in canned beans is really annoying...why would you add sugar on top of a jar worth of salt? I often buy either Goya brand or organic beans to get away from the sugar. Of course, if you had all day, you could cook the beans from scratch...
  • Beachgal

I have just recently discovered edamame and I absolutely LOVE them.

I have only had them steamed and lightly salted - I don't have the SBD cookbook, can you post the edamame recipe or is it in the recipe list here?

    I'd really appreciate it

    TIA
    Kim
  • Can you have all the soynuts you want? Do they count as nuts or what?
  • They count as nuts. You may have one serving a day of 1/4 cup.
