Stephie, you can have soy beans in all sorts of ways too. The recipe for edamame (fresh soybeans) in the SBD cookbook is phenomenal!

I love adding roasted soy nuts (which are actually soy beans, not nuts) to my salads in place of croutons. Yum!
The sugar in canned beans is really annoying...why would you add sugar on top of a jar worth of salt?
