Weekend Chat - January 22 and 23

Weekends are usually slower around here but the way things are going in here, I'm not so sure!

Welcome nicweb and any other new folks. Please post any questions and join us in the Daily.

Yesterday was perishing cold here! I had planned to stay indoors all day but we ran out of toilet paper and Scotch so I had to go out. Hershey is very sore and spent the whole day dozing. She decided that peeing on the deck was warranted because she had trouble going down the steps. She gave me a rather guilty look when she did it. Poor baby!

I have to scurry around a bit this morning. I brought the coffee mugs home from Church last week and forgot to wash them. I discovered the bag on the washer yesterday and they need to go back to the Church this morning. I think I am losing my mind.

Time for coffee and Doggage Duties. Back later.
:coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Ruthxxx 01-22-2005 08:18 AM

Well, it's later and you are all still asleep! After 40 posts yesterday, I expected 5 or 6 by now! Are you chickies all talked out? I think I'll just go around checking towels and umbrellas and see if somebody has shacked up with the cabana boys!

I'm going to do my treadmill and knee exercises now that I've done my "must" chores for the morning. All that's left is to bring in wood and I may wait until Rob comes over to start that task. ;)

Wakey! Wakey!

a broad abroad 01-22-2005 08:22 AM

Good day ladies,

I guess I have phase 1 on the brain because in my dream last night someone gave me a large order of salty french fries and I had already eaten a couple handfuls before I remembered I was doing Ph. 1 - yikes! (not that fries are allowed in any phase! :p ) In reality, so far so good, day 4. Right now I'm having a caramel flavored tea to curb a sweet craving.

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi, and check for reports of what was ordered at the Japanese restaurant last night and/or how it went on the date with the sweet YOUNG thang ;) . Have a great weekend eveyone.

Awwww... poor Hershey. :( She must be so fed up. :grouphug:
Gee, Ruth, it's warmed right up. It's -34C (-30F) out there today!

Nikki, welcome to the Beach! You're going to love it here... great support... great gals.

Cottage, thanks for the congrats! :)
12"!?!?! Oh, you poor darling... :( I hope you're stocked up on OP food! And toilet paper. (skip the scotch)

Kissy, we started our kitchen ... ummm... I think in October. Christmas sort of caused us to stop and start a bit, and we're (I'm) hoping to finish it within the next 3 weeks. (read: 3 months)
Good luck with yours!!

Bamie, how's the weather? I hope you're alright, hon.
Kitchen status? Let's see... most of the cabinets are in. We're currently drywalling the wall behind the fridge/stove, and then we can put up the rest of the cabinets.
The potlights are in.
I removed the wainscotting from the breakfast area (where the computer goes), only to discover that the wall looks like HECK! We're going to have to drywall over it. More work. No matter.
I've picked up the paint... as soon as DH finishes fiddling around with the walls/ceiling (he's a bit of perfectionist), I'll start painting!

Stephiepoo, what are chicometrics? :?:

Anchor... we want to hear all about The Date!! :D

Hunnybee, my kids listen to books on cd in bed all the time... they LOVE them!
Congratulations on the better-fitting suit, girl!! :hat:

Barb, Laurie is right... you SHOULD send your success story in! Your story is just as special as anyone else's.
I know it's wonderful when someone drops 15 or 20 pounds, but when I see those success stories in WW magazines, I think, "Oh, if ONLY that's all I had to lose!" As much as I admire them for doing it, I'm afraid I have little sympathy with some of the stories. (sorry, I've probably just offended someone here... humble apologies)

RNMom, which movie did you see? Report, please! :D

Amber, how's your little one? Teething is such a bad time for them. :( (not to mention the parents!)

Artemis, your DH sounds like mine. ;) A NICE man. I hope he enjoyed his "boys night".

Laurie, dear, I believe you have some Pilates to do today? ;) And NO cheesecake. :nono: You're far too nice to be ruining your health with mere cheesecake.

Hi Sil, Bonnie, Chipper, geekchick, A Broad, Mamacita and everyone else...

We're picking up drywall this morning. Then DH is taking the kids to a movie this afternoon, so I'll have TIME ALONE!! :)
Last night I sorted over 50 pairs of socks that had been lying on our dressing room floor for months. Sort of takes the thrill out of the hunt, but it's easier walking in there now.

ellis 01-22-2005 08:25 AM

A broad, Ruth would call the french fry thing, "a brain fart".

chipper15173 01-22-2005 08:35 AM

Moring Ladies;

Abroad-- I had a dream a few nights ago that I had taken a bite out of a dinner roll and then threw a fit about it. I guess this shows it's always on our minds.
Going to be a slow weekend. No one wants to get out of their nice warm beds this morning.
SIL & DD are coming over at 10 to help DS with his car, and get the other one ready to go to the junk yard.
I am getting a facial this afternoon. It was part of a gift cert. DH got me for Christmas. The girl was gone when I had the other things done. It will be nice.
Today is my official weigh in, but the darn scale didn't move. Still the same 262.5 as last week. I must be doing something, will have to check back and see. Still have another few weeks before measerments are taken at the gym. They do that once a month.
Not much else new here today.
I too want to know what happened with that sweet young thing last night. Must have had a good time:).
Time to get in gear and will cruise by later.

tazcat 01-22-2005 08:49 AM

morning to you all,
time to get myself back into life,.....no not yet, ha ha
I am going to town to visit a new baby today, my neace had a baby boy this morning at 5ish. Her second.
I have been busy buying a house(my moms, she died in Oct.) trying to sell mine,(someone looking today) Buying land, and trying to help our boys some.
I really am missing DH, the old DH, not the sick one, bless his sole.
So much for that. My life has changed,I cannot explain. Some for the good and a lot for the bad. Everytime I think something negative, I make myself think of something positive.
I went out yesterday and started the snowblower, that was my first, The boys have been doing this but they didn't show up this time so I did it myself. I had to get my wood in. Well I have to go back and read some of the posts so I know what is goig on.
I hope to post daily,
Love you all,
Tazcat

ellis 01-22-2005 08:52 AM

Oh, Tazcat, it's so good to hear from you, sweetie. :grouphug: I've been thinking about you. You're so wise to look for the positive instead of dwelling on the negative.
I hope you post daily, too... good luck with the wood and snowblower!!

Ruthxxx 01-22-2005 08:56 AM

Oh, Tazcat, I am so glad you are back. A new baby in your life will be a bright spot.
Too bad about all the damned snow in the Maritimes! I am impressed that you know how to run a snowblower. It's beyond me but I can lug wood.

Bamiegurl 01-22-2005 09:50 AM

A lil drive by for me this morning. I am fixin to get ready to go out. We have gotten no snow so far and I think now they have pushed it back to Sun. and I will be back home by then. Oh well! I was hoping!
I sure hope lil Miss Amy don't keep us hangin all day waitin to hear about her HOT date! Have a great day Chickies!

geekchic 01-22-2005 10:06 AM

Good morning!

I had a headache all day yesterday (I am not even in phase 1 yet!) and laid down for an hour after doing the chores (feeding and watering the sheep), and then after dinner went to bed at 8:30 and slept till 8:30 this morning. My sweet DH is doing the grocery shopping without me. I gave him a list of things to get me for next week.

Still have the headache and a little all-over achiness. I don't want a cold. :(

Going to do some laundry and try to get some more rest the rest of the day.

Oh we have already gotten 4-5" of snow on top of the 1-2" we already had, and the sky still looks snowy! The sheep look like snowballs walking around in the pasture.

cottagebythesea 01-22-2005 10:11 AM

Tazcat, it's really nice to hear from you. I was wondering how you were doing. You sweet girl, you're really making an effort to see the bright side of things. I pray that life gets better for you.

It started snowing about 1/2 hour ago, and now they're predicting a blizzard with up to 18" or more! We've stocked up on groceries and have full tanks of gas (as if we're going to venture out!), so we can just kick back and enjoy it. I think I'll put on a pot of chili for supper, and maybe bake some ww bread to go with it. Right now I'm going to fix a mug of tea and curl up with my book.

BonnieJ 01-22-2005 10:33 AM

Good Morning

I love reading your chats but it is weird to actually join in...However, I got a little worried about Tazcat. The "mostly for the bad" got to me.

I have recently come out of a prolonged time of feeling that life had taken a hard and negative turn. Most of the time I did exactly the same thing; whenever my mind went to the negative, I would pull it to the positive. It was actually rather difficult sometimes.

Then, out of desperation, I purchased a meditation tape. It just had beta waves or some such thing in the music, and had been "proven" to help people with depression. While I listened to the tape, I would create happy scenes in my head...just things that could still bring me joy; like being a success in my business and having a husband that actually loved me. So for 30 minutes a day I was in a very happy place. I did this for at least six weeks.

Something very strange started happening 4 weeks ago. My wildest dreams for my career are taking place; there are actually two companies competing for my time! My husband started cuddling with me more, calling to "hear my voice" during the day, and actually copliments me on my appearance sometimes!

It was the death of both my parents that was step one in my slipping into depression. They obviously aren't coming back, but I can see a good life without them now.

Maybe it really was the tape that help me...I just wanted to share that in case it could help...

I wish you all well!

Ruthxxx 01-22-2005 10:38 AM

Thanks, Bonnie. Tazcat had gone through an extremely rough year. She will be fine though because she's a strong lady!
Please do feel free to join in the daily chat and don't feel strange. We are all just a tad nutsy from drinking too much seawater on The Beach!

nicweb 01-22-2005 11:07 AM

Good Morning all,

I am going shopping today for my PHASE I foods. It is a long list! I hope all is well.

I better scoot. My puppy took off on me this morning and I have to go find him. I know he is just visiting his friend but it is frustrating when he does that!

Have a good day all. I will check in a little later.

ellis 01-22-2005 12:22 PM

Bonnie, how wonderful that the tape has helped you! :grouphug:
Like Ruth said, don't feel a stranger around us! We're all friends here... the more, the merrier!

amb_lyn 01-22-2005 03:05 PM

Good Saturday Morning Ladies!

Got up before the sun even peeked out this morning. Baby decided he wanted breakfast then refused to eat it!! Stubborn kid. HAHA

Ellis~thanks for asking about baby. He's in a MUCH better mood today! Thank goodness!! Teeth still not through but at least he's cheerful.

To all those who recieved TONS & TONS of snow..I feel for you, but, thank goodness we didnt get any!! It's just freezing cold here.

Well, I couldn't resist it any longer, I had to step on the scale this morning.. It showed I was down another 3#, but, do I believe it?? I'll wait til Monday to be sure. I also measured last night, 4inches gone from my abdomen and 1.5 inches gone from my thighs. Wish I had more gone from my thighs but I will take what I can get for now.

Not alot going on here today, goofing around the house. I should go upstairs and walk on the treadmill but, later. Catching up on some net stuff for now. Wanted to stop in & say HELLO!

Have a great weekend everyone!! OP Vibes!!

HistoryChick 01-22-2005 03:08 PM

Hello Ladies!

It's a cold and dreary Sat. here in Virginia.....well it's raining...freezing rain I think so there is ice everywhere......I hate ice....ugh not fun at all it's relaly slick out....I guess I could clean my room but that's never fun...but I really need to....we will see...my lil brother is out playing in this wintery mix.....dad's napping and mom is at work...I had the weekend off...thank goodness....I'm still half frozen...I might make myself a cup of hot tea...sounds like a good idea.....Ellis I'm like you...I love to hear about everyone's success stories....they're always a motivation...just recently I read about some ladies in People Magazine who had lost a great amount of weight...it showed their before and after pictures and they just looked wonderful! I think everyone here should submit their success stories...it would help inspire others....Everyone is doing such an amazing and incredible job....It's something we should all be very proud of! I was at a car dealership the other day waiting for my car to come out and I was talking to this car dealer who was telling me he was on atkins and thinking about switching over to South Beach and I told him that I was on that and said that I had lost nearly 80lbs since May....and he couldn't believe it and said that I looked great....I told him I was still on it and wasn't at my goal...yet..and he told me that I couldn't be too far off....anyways I hope everyone is keeping warm....I think it's time for me to fix that cup of hot tea!

My mum died in October, too. It seems like 2004 was an awful year for a lot of people. I know that, for me, it was one thing after another until it pretty much culminated in my mum's death. I'm sorry to hear you've been having such a bad time.

Bamiegurl 01-22-2005 05:11 PM

I was driving by to see if Anchor had dropped in yet! I hope she is not still out on her HOT date with that young thang! hahahahahahahahaha
It's snowing here now! But it is not supposed to stick!

ellis 01-22-2005 05:12 PM

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder if she's still in bed, Bamie!

RNMOM 01-22-2005 05:17 PM

Good afternoon beachers!

Just popping in to say hi. Finally had some phase 2 phood today! Heaven, trying not to go overboard, but it was wonderful. Did a bit of shopping today and think I'll go to a movie tonight.............didn't go last night, sat down on the couch and was asleep. Ended up working an extra shift so I was beat.

8 pounds lost on my phase 1 3peat. Not disappointed....well....actually I would loved to have been to goal............I'm the kind of person who stands in front of the microwave and says hurry...........bad mentality.

It's great to read everyone's post. It's good to see how you cope with disappointment and stress. We all learn from that. Thanks for helping me all the time.

geekchic 01-22-2005 05:37 PM

Brr! Baby it's COLD outside! I just tramped to the mailbox and wished I was wearing skis or snowshoes because it has drifted to a foot and a half in some places. The poor dog (Juliet) was having trouble walking in it and she is a lab/dalmatian mix, so she's not small.

Not much else going on here -- I got some laundry done today and made some progress on some socks I am knitting for DH. He got back from grocery shopping and brought me the following things to help me on my first week of SBD:
  • Mustard Greens
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Tomatoes
  • Cabbage
  • Laughing Cow cheese
  • Lowfat Colby cheese
  • Coffee!!! It is called Southern Pecan and it has real pecan pieces in it!
  • Canned tuna

We do most of our shopping at a big farmer's market, and the meat vendor was not there so he was not able to get me any lunch meat, so on Monday I will get some lean ham, turkey, and roast beef. Of course we have plenty of eggs and milk from our own farm. So I think I am all set!

Ruthxxx 01-22-2005 05:45 PM

It is a cold, blizzardy, windy, frassing miserable day out there! I know because I had to haul in wood and then chase Miss Lucy who decided a romp in the forest would be a good idea! Some tea thawed me out a bit but I still have cold hands.
If you are in this blizzard, chickies, stay warm and treat yourself to a nice hand cream massage or something more exciting. ;)

Marianna 01-22-2005 06:44 PM

All of this talk of snow and we are just melting with the heat here! I have never actually seen snow.....

Hmmm just waiting for my husband to make me a coff..oops here it is..ahhhh. Having a pretty ordinary weekend here. Just cleaning yesterday and now we might drive to the bay and go for a walk this afternoon. They have some great parks and it is always cooler.

Made some curry last night and some dhal... added heaps of vegies which was very yummo. I should post the recipe later... nice and easy one to make.

My weight seems to be a bit static lately. I am eating well and on plan, so hopefully the big exercise today will start some more loss. I am still playing around with what to add it and it is getting a little frustrating - but I do feel better. So even if I am not losing weight I have more energy and am doing more exercise!

Wonder how the date went???

Have a wonderful day!

geekchic 01-22-2005 08:22 PM

Well looks like I'm not waiting till Monday to start SBD, I'm starting it tomorrow! :cb:

ellis 01-22-2005 09:17 PM

Oh, happy day, Geekchic. :lol3:
Good luck, girl! :lucky:

Ruthxxx 01-22-2005 10:25 PM

All right!
Can I go to bed now. Please!

Barb0522 01-22-2005 10:26 PM

Hey, guys! Just a quick checkin before bed. The Pinewood Derby races were today. What a long day. My son came in second in his den of 10 boys and third in the entire pack of around 80 kids. He was so happy! I spent hours working at the Derby. Mostly distributing ribbons and setting up the cars for each race. And then a TON of cleanup. It is amazing how much of a mess the graphite can make. I brought hot dogs for their food sale but packed my own lunch and snacks since I didn't even want to look too close at their snacks and food. I had several people ask what I had been doing to lose weight since they hadn't seen me in awhile so I got to tell them what SBD is like.

Tomorrow I WILL make it to the gym but I definitely got lots of bending and moving in today (and a little more tiling).

ellis 01-22-2005 11:12 PM

sheesh! :lol3:

Artemis, it's late, but tomorrow we'll try to figure out how to send you down some snow. I'd hate for you to be deprived when there's so very much of it to go around.

geekchic 01-22-2005 11:20 PM

Mmkay, I turned on hybrid mode and now it bugs me that when I click "Reply" at the bottom I am replying to the post before mine instead of the whole thread. Stop obsessing, Misty! (yes that is my name)

I went to the FAQ and went to the very oldest post and started reading. I am up to March 2004 now and my eyeballs are tired so I am going to bed soon. I love you gals so much already! :D

RNMOM 01-23-2005 12:44 AM

Sheesh Ruth

I don't know why you think you should sleep, every 10 minutes or so with Ellis yelling "ALRIGHT" :yikes: I don't know how she does the large letter thingy, but it woke me out of a dead sleep............................................. ...

Of course, Ellis, you know I'm just kidding, I luv ya more than a hog loves slop! :coach: :coach: Now get some sleep!

Mamacita 01-23-2005 06:07 AM

Good morning, Chicks~~ :coffee:

It's FREEZING here!! I know I have absolutely NOTHING to complain about compared to you folks up north, but my thin southern blood and joints are not appreciating the "feels like" 3* wind chill we're having at the moment. Sil, how're you holding up? (Sil's my neighbor up the road)

Welcome to all you new Chicks! Grab a Beach blanket, claim a spot on the sand and join in the festivities, gals.

Had a totally delicious dinner yesterday. Chicken breast cooked in the oven with SF marinara sauce, sauted spinach and some pinto beans. YUMMY. :T

Today is handspinners guild meeting. Penny will be there with her Krispy Kremes  I will try to avoid her and her temptations at all costs...

Friday had a great brainstorming session with Miss Mary, which is why I need to close this and get my fanny in gear and actually WRITE something. This is my last chance til who knows when.

So, everyone have a great day on the beach. Stay close to the bonfire and keep warm!

Mamacita

Marianna 01-23-2005 07:38 AM

Thanks... the thought of snow makes me sigh with happiness.. so do your best to get it here ;)

It was so hot that we couldn't get our daughter down for a sleep today... awful. But our time down at the waterfront was just lovely. We had a great play on the waterpark and then had a nice walk in the breeze.. unfortunately I had an icecream :nono: Just couldn't help myself I am afraid.

I think it was Ruth that posted the fitday.com link. Well I downloaded it today and will start to seriously track my exercise and food... need to figure out what is going on. Perhaps my portions are too big.. good food, but too much of it? The program looks great so thanks for the link!

Take Care everyone!

Good night.

Oh, how very sweet. :o That's the nicest thing anyone's said to me all year. :lol3: Gee, that's a lot of love! Sort of makes me hungry for breakfast...
Congratulations on the 8 pounds, girlie!! That's fantastic!! :hat:

Okay, so let me tell you the weather for today. Because as a Canadian, it's really all I care about. (apart from same-sex marriage and French language rights)
Let's see... ooooh la la! It's -33C today! (-28F) Up an entire degree from yesterday!
Yesterday we only got 2.8mm (0.1 inches) of snow. Thank God for THAT, anyhow!
What more information do you need to know that you DON'T want to move to Ottawa.

Mamacita and Sil... 3F, eh? Gee, I really feel for you. It's all relative... stay warm, girls!

Artemis... "It was so hot that we couldn't get our daughter down for a sleep..." That's dreadful. Poor little love. :( I'm sorry you're suffering down there. Sounds like one of our summers. We don't have air-conditioning, and on the really hot days we move from our attic bedrooms down to the basement. I hope it cools down for you soon!

Misty, you're doing what we wish everyone would do... reading the FAQ! Wow, I'm so impressed, girl!!

Barb, your son did so well! Congratulations to him!! :hat:
How's the tiling going?

Gish, how are you doing, hon? It's so hard losing a parent, isn't it? :grouphug:

Jess, that's wonderful about the compliment from the saleman! I'll bet that just made your day!! Have you posted any pics of yourself in our photo gallery? You can always "cut your head off" if you want to remain anonymous. (we'll use Photo Shop, and add Pamela Anderson's head to your body)

Well, DH is taking the kids to church this morning, and I'm damned if I'm going outside! Maybe some laundry (how the heck does it build up so quickly!?). Maybe I'll plan dinners for the week. I haven't done that in years. :D

Ruthxxx 01-23-2005 08:15 AM

Well, Ellis, you could always just sit and read New Yorker instead of all that work! :lol3:

There is no way I'm going to Church this morning. We got a real dump of snow and there is a two foot wall of snow at the road. My Focus can't crash through that and I doubt that Bruce The Plough Guy will be here much before noon. I'd walk but the darn knee is too sore. (I had a minor slip when bringing in wood yesterday. :( )

RNMOM, I do like the way you express your affection for Ellis!

Whoops! Harry needs me. Back in a bit.

Take care of that knee, sweetie. :grouphug:

geekchic 01-23-2005 08:46 AM

Good morning! First day OTB and I lost 3 pounds overnight so I could start with an encouraging weight! Yeehaw!

DH is off flying this morning as every Sunday morning (he is a private pilot and we own a small plane -- no it doesn't mean I am rich :P ) and I'm just taking my time. Have not had my coffee yet because you know it weighs something. :P I am just about to have coffee and a big omelet, and tell my mind to STFU about wanting toast with the omelet. I can do this, girlies!

Probably when DH gets back we will ski around the property for an hour or so, then relax the rest of the day.

Mamacita, WHERE do I know you from? Livejournal? The Spinning group on Yahoo? It is killin' me! Anyway we really hafta talk spinning sometime. Our monthly guild meeting was cancelled (weather) but I have a 5th Sunday spin-in on the 29th. Also btw I grew up in Canton and my first boyfriend (summer camp) lived in Stone Mountain. Memories....

Oh and Ellis, my DH is Canadian! He's from Edmonton where I think it gets even colder than that. :/ I told him nope, sorry, you don't get to move back there EVER!

a broad abroad 01-23-2005 09:09 AM
