Question about salad dressing??

  • Hi everyone,

I am starting SBD tomorrrow and am just trying to get prepared. When it comes to salad dressing (the store bought kind) which ones are permitted? It seems that the creamier ones are actually better ones to on SBD. But, I could be wrong. Any answers would be very helpful.

    Thanks
  • I think they say the best is a oil and vinegar mix that you make yourself but I use Hidden Valley Ranch reg dressing. I think it goes by the grams of sugar. I think the book said 4 or less but could be wrong and don't have it handy to look. This may be more confusing but hope it helps! Good luck on your new journey!
  • Well I'd look at the ingredients in the dressings. If there is sugar, corn syrup, corn starch, honey then stay away. The creamier dressings also tend to have a higher saturated fat so I would definitely try to go with something that is an oil and vinegar base, without added sugar then that is probably your best bet. I make my own dressing of balsamic vinegar, flavored olive oil, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic powder and dried onions. Sometimes I add things such as dried basil, rosemary or dill.

For my own creamier dressing I mix nonfat plain yogurt, spicy mustard, salt, pepper, garlic powder and any other spices I feel like adding.
  • I think the rule is 2 grams of sugar or less. I personally use Kraft-free ranch on a daily basis and it has not stalled my weight loss.
  • diamondgrll7... I do believe you are right! OOPS! I said I was not for sure. I checked my dressing and it has 1 gm of sugar. Thanks!
  • I do not know if this is "legal" but the Carb Well Ceasar dressing by Kraft is delicious!
Other than that I use a balsamic and basil dressing.
  • thanks for all the great ideas! I am going shopping today and starting phase 1 tomorrow.
  • Carb Well's are good but have alot of fat and calories. They also have a Carb Well Light which is lower in fat and calories, but they all suck

I hate vinegar, so I am always trying to find a decent dressing.
  • try annie's goddess dressing
