Question Curious about SB right now I'm doing Atkins BUT..

I'm disgusted with myself. I have been doing Atkins on and off for several years now. I do lose weight with the plan but I always hit a plataue. I've been doing a wishy-washy version of Atkins lately. I've been at a stand still since October.

My mom is doing South Beach and really likes it . I find it appealing because I could have milk and orange juice. I really do miss both of them...LOL!! With summer coming I'd love to be able to have a piece of fruit too.

Is there anyone here that was getting tierd of Atkins and started South Beach? I would love to know if you are finding South Beach easier or if you think you did better on Atkins.

I'm really looking forward to hearing from someone. I've lost a little over 50 pounds on Atkins. I have alot more to go....about 100 pounds more to be exact. There use to be a time when I would be really upset about having so much weight to lose but I don't get that way anymore. I know I can do this. I just have to keep the numbers going down. Right now with me not giving Atkins 100% of my efforts it's not working. I know that this is true of any plan....I think what it boils down to is the fact that I"m really looking for more variety..........

Thanks for all the info !!

Blessings ,

ChrissyB

ChrissyB, I tried Atkins a few years ago I only lasted less then two weeks. I had severe headaches. Then a year ago I discovered SBD, I liked it much better. When you think about it,it is a much healthier eating plan. Good luck.

Hi Chrissy
I tried Atkins too (along with everything else blahdeblahdeblah). I find South Beach is better for me because I dont like eating a lot of sat.fat, and I do like eating some fruit. But I will say one thing, which is that I think you have to think harder on South Beach, and make more choices.....it is quite 'grown up' in that respect (not that Atkins is ungrown up but you know what I mean I hope). For example, on South Beach there is a thing about mayo.....should we go for the regular without the sugar, or should we go for the low fat type which does have some sugars? And we umm and ahhh about it, but the bottom line is if you overeat on mayo you get fat. So decide, have a little, and see if you can still lose weight having a little, of whichever type. See what I mean by making choices?

Now I like that style of doing things. I think I got big by slipping in to the mentality of 'oh well she (thin friend) is having chocolate and chips, so I can too'. And of course, I cant!! Well I can, but I then have to shop at the fat lady shop and I am so sick of those clothes.

So there we are. Buy the book, read some of the faqs on this site and why not give it a try? Better for your kidneys too if that concerns you (although I know that is contraversial). And of course you get to spread your towell out here on our virtual beach and catch some rays with us (that is teenage for sunbathing apparently......).

I didn't even last two weeks on Dr Atkins, mostly because I don't like the taste of fat so was hungry all the time because I wasn't getting the calories to fill me up.

I started weight watchers this year but after about two weeks I wanted some healthy eating guidelines so was actually searching the internet for 'fit for life' or similar programs. I found the SB diet which was just what I was looking for.

I find South Beach much easier than Dr Atkins because I feel it is setting me up for healthy eating habits for life. I have about 60 pounds to lose so I need a maintainable diet to last that long. I enjoy lean meats and salads and find that if I eat one slice of bread I want the whole loaf so it is best for me to cut out these things for now. I missed the fruit yogurt a lot and am still missing eating fruit. I find that snacking on low-fat cheese and nuts mid afternoon satisfies me until dinner time and an after dinner snack and herbal tea prevents me from snacking all evening. To me this is a pretty easy plan to stick to and in another six months (or however long it takes) I hope to be in a permanent healthy eating, water drinking, regular exercising routine.

Good luck with your weight loss, and you are right not to be disheartened at the start of a large weight loss. As my sister says 'this is the year of the body!'

It sounds like you are burned out on Atkins. It sounds like it is time to try something new then, and I think South Beach is a great bridge from Atkins. (I was on Atkins for a year. I lost the weight and maintained, but missed the legumes and unlimited low carb vegs.) South Beach is so much healthier, and I think that is what concerns us all about Atkins.
