Question Any Beachers have IBS?

I have dealt with IBS (Irritable Bowel Sydrome) for years and years. I have my bouts of weeks, months, where its just miserable with stomach pains and diarrhea. I was reading on my IBS Discussion Group board that the South Beach Diet really is healthy and soothes the stomach - one of the reasons I'm trying it. But I'm worried because I see things like nuts and cheese and big staples of SBD. Does anyone here have IBS and if so, how does the diet do for you? My stomach is in such a mess right now, nothing is going to hurt it right now. Just curious! Thanks!

Default Hey There

I have had IBS for years. This past year it has been worse. I have been doing what I call a modified SBD.. I was gung ho the first month. I did well and lost some weight. Now I mainly don't eat the white carbs. (past.rice.w/potato.w/bread)I say my Dr. a couple weeks ago and he said I have to learn to live with it..O.K. that means to me what upsets my intestinal tract,I don't eat. At least not often. I know the fried chicken and frys are bad news. I still like them and will have some maybe once a month or so. Beans and gas producing veggies,I try to be careful with. Medications only work sometimes. The main thing is diet..Hope you find a solution..

I've had it for years, too. I just try to avoid my triggers. (raisins are the devil) Although if I'm heading for a stressful situation, almost ANYTHING can be a trigger.

Nuts and milk are two of my things too, and I just tend to try and avoid. I have had some goat cheese which is ok , but I cant find a low fat version, so have just had a lot less than I otherwise would have. As to nuts, I think my life is too short to cope with what nuts do to me, so I go more or less without. I have found that almonds seem to be ok in moderation and have snacked on them a few times and been ok.
