Default The Week of January 9 to 13

Good morning and welcome to the start of real January. Maybe I'll finally get the days straight. Today is definitely Monday.

I'm off to coffee with the folks very shortly on this definitely winter day. I made some butterscotch squares to take yesterday afternoon (Food Porn) and had to make a quick dash to the store for baking powder. Mine had expired and made me realize how long it's been since I baked. (I did not sample even a crumb to test the results. It's a recipe I've been making for at least 50 years!)

Nice to see new folks in here. It's pulled me back into mindful eating and even into planning my week's menus. When you live alone, it's to easy to have slippage.

Gotta dash, get dressed and zoom off to get the coffee started.

Good morning Ruth and chicks to come!

I had a good sleep and now it's time to go again. Kirby is scratching again so he got a bath this morning. I took care of a few other household chores, as well.

I am back to bringing a lunch to work. It is packed and my smoothie is made to take with me as well. I do much better with resisting the work food if I have something healthy to eat.

The road crew should be back today. It's warm and our snow is melting so it should be a muddy mess by the time I return this afternoon.

Ruth, good for you resisting even a bite of the creams. That's very helpful to me!

Have a good day everyone!

Good morning! It is COLD here today, but by Friday will be in the mid-60's! Good for you Ruth to not sample. I find it doesn't help me to just have a taste.

I made a delicious dinner yesterday - the steak au poivre from debbies somethingerother website. Thank goodness for the boxes of couscous, brown rice, etc. I'm just now getting to use them instead of making it from scratch - my son, who went back to college this weekend) has a severe allergy to msg which means anything that comes in a box, and I mean every single thing, contains some form of msg. Which for him means instant, debilitating migraines. So I've been using the rice steamer to make the rice, couscous from recipes, etc. It's not like it's the worlds biggest deal, but when every single meal needs to be prepared, a little short cut here and there is nice.

Speaking of which - I ordered a few south beach diet frozen dinners off the website. There are days when I'm going to the office all day and I need an easy lunch to heat up, or darn it, I just don't feel like cooking and want something warm.

I did weigh myself this morning, after I weighed in yesterday - I have a short term goal to lose 15 lbs before next Thursday - when I'm going out with friends to a formal event. I thought that was a do-able goal the time I set it - and I'm 2.2 lbs away from it now. I was disappointed in my weigh in yesterday and sure enough I was lower today. Surely 2.2 in a week and a half is attainable right? Once breakfast settles (2 eggs, 3 pieces of turkey bacon, v8) I'm walking on the treadmill.

Stay warm!

Good morning,

I am wfh today and happy since it's still cold out there, tomorrow have to go in but it will be warmer. Today's agenda is just going over things and my only direct report now told me he is applying for a different position so need to think through how things will work and transition if he does get the new position. Yesterday's eating was not good so back to it with a plan today.

Ruth that is awesome no sampling that is the way to go

Debbie glad you have a plan and packed your lunch

msgooch ever little bit helps that's for sure.

Have a great day everyone!

Amy sometimes the scale forgets to reward us for our efforts. I have a pair of jeans I use as I guide when the scale is being stubborn. Won't even attempt to put them on today as I need thermals under my jeans today lol.

Pearlrose parallel lives lol. I too indulged yesterday, but we worked hard (ok it was hard for me moving furniture) and enjoyed what I ate. Right back at is this morning. Typing while pedaling lol

Debbie I bring my lunch too. Especially since the boys at work are incorrigible lol big manly meals full of carbs ugh!

Ruth I too find it is great when we get new bleachers. It's very motivating especially during these cold months!!!

Today I do need to get my car washed from the salt and put it in the garage until Sunday. Tomorrow I have to be in the Bronx at 7 for a GPS install on my work car (yeah big brother is always watching) I do need to complete my year end reports and create a resume for the new boss. So much for enjoying MY day off

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Good evening chicks. Very blustery this morning and the sub-zero temperatures necessitated warming my car extra long!

Another Monday at work; the day is always busy plus my Robotics kids worked after school. We have some new students this year which is exciting, but I will be glad when we have our competition next week and wrap up our season. I really like the group but it is quite a time commitment.

Came home to make dinner and then got stuck at my desk paying bills and such. So I am just now relaxing with some SF hot chocolate.

Have a good evening, chicks; see you tomorrow.

Good morning from my almost pure white world. The ploughs have been past twice so far and the kids will be happy to have a snow day.

Beth, I am currently sipping coffee with a bit of SF hot chocolate. I'd prefer Baileys but It's just a tad early. We got snow last night and it's still wintery but freezing rain and above freezing stuff is on the way. I kind of miss our old-fashioned winters. I had planned to go to town to spend some gift cards but I will probably wait until after Rob's funeral this Saturday.

Mrsgooch, you are inspiring me. I have been stuck in a rut and had forgotten about quinoa and couscous. Please let us kn0w which SBD frozen meals you tried and what is the verdict.

Debbie, hang in there and fight that SAD! The roadwork mess has to end someday - maybe soon! You are the smoothie Queen. I got a new blender for Christmas and need to experiment. I do have a goodly stash of frozen fruit in the freezer.

Rose, too bad your assistant is moving on with his/her career. Good luck with the search for a replacement.

Jennifer, yesterday's post gave me a start. I couldn't figure out why new Chlorox motivated you! Sounds like you are very motivated and doing well with food.

Richard just arrived to plough the lane. He still thinks I go to the gym every morning and does my lane before he does the commercial ones. No doubt he'll be back later for a coffee.

Today will be an "at home" day, partly because of the weather and partly because I have to speak at Rob's Celebration on Saturday. That is going to be very difficult but my acting training should keep my voice on track. (The tear ducts are another matter but I won't be alone.) I also need to get the Christmas decorations sorted and ready for Michelle to lug upstairs tis Thursday.

Life goes on.

Good morning,

Quick flyby for me, I am going into work today. It is a blustery windy day and temps are going up into the 50's but will be back in the 30s for this weekend. Nothing on my agenda this evening. Managed 1 day of back op eating and I am taking my lunch in today as well. Made Turkey chili last night so good.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning, Ruth I didn't catch my "bleachers" reference until this morning...your Clorox reference made me laugh. Nice catch! SF hot chocolate sounds great right about now.

Pearlrose do you have a recipe you like for turkey chili? I'm always looking for chili recipes as they have become a staple in my life.

DS has yet to move home (stubborn). We went to lunch yesterday and he discussed all the reasons why he shouldn't move back in. I get it that he likes his independence, but he will not be able to manage financially without working full time. His old boss (nice guy but a bit immature) has a new business venture he wants my son to help him with. My son sees $$$$ I see nothing concrete just another "great idea" that won't work out in the long run. DS better stick with his plan for college since the bank of mom already paid his tuition! Sigh

Very cold here yet again today. The house was holding at 65 (thermostat set for 72). Coconut doesn't seem to mind as he is wearing his coat and has his blanket to snuggle in while I'm at work. I'm waiting for my work car to get the GPS installed. This should kill most of my day.

Stay warm!!!!

Good morning!

Our main floor heater broke over the weekend and it has been snowing and in the 20's! Thankfully we have gas fireplaces and the other heaters have kicked on. But I was watching the college championship last night in many layers. It should be 60's by the end of the week, but the new unit gets installed on Thursday.

I got my lazy butt on the treadmill yesterday - I prefer outside, but I'm a fair weather walker. I set it for interval and walked for 45 minutes. I really want to hit the 15lb mark on schedule for my first mini goal next Thursday. I don't know if I can do it or not. I do track my calories on fitbit and I hover around 1400 plus or minus. I don't know if I can realistically go lower right now. Surely the scale has to move over time, but sometimes it seems like I could starve myself and not lose an ounce, but breathe in something delicious and gain 10. I have a lot to lose! I don't even have an end goal, between 150 - 175. That means I have at a minimum 40 lbs to go. If it's tough now, I can't imagine down the road when there isn't such a huge calorie deficit. Anyway, I'm just feeling a little depressed about it right now. I know logically that of course over time, little by little it will add up and before we know it I'll be at a healthy weight. It just seems like it takes forever.

Jekel here is the recipe:

Ingredients
8 ounces Ground Turkey
2 cups Diced Tomatoes
1 Carrot (diced)
1 Celery Stalk (diced)
1 tsp Chili Powder
1 tsp Cumin
1 clove Garlic (minced)
1 tsp Coconut Oil
2 cups Chicken Broth
1 Tbsp Tomato Paste

Heat coconut oil in Dutch oven
over medium heat. Saute all
vegetables until soft, about 10
minutes. Stir in tomato paste.
Add turkey and cook all the way
through, stirring constantly. Add
spices, tomatoes and chicken
broth. Stir. Bring to a boil and
boil until chicken broth is mostly
cooked off, about 20 minutes.
*Eat half for dinner, and save the
other half for tomorrow's lunch.

Thank you Pearlrose. Sounds delicious!!! I'll probably double the recipe and have some to freeze!!

Msgooch don't stress too much. It is so easy to get hung up on numbers (we all do it) OK I still do. I use a fit bit and lose it app for tracking my food. SB isn't based on calories. However, I know I can really over due it and over eat. I track 5-6 days per week and give myself a technology break 1 day. I average roughly 1400-1500 calories per day. When I was losing (roughly 20 pounds) I didn't count calories or track. I tried to be good about only eating when I was hungry. Now I track and count to hold me accountable to myself. I had some weeks where my losses were great and others where it was barely .2 of a pound even a few small gains. I've learned my hormones do play a role in my numbers. I weigh in daily and don't stress even when the scale has a big jump. I can usually tell its is from what I ate or not drinking enough water. Hang in there you are doing great!!!

Evening chicks. Busy day always. Doing a bunch of grading tonight as I am feeling behind.

Pearlrose, I had leftover beef stew tonight but the chili sounds good.

Jennifer, I noticed your "bleachers" but didn't want to say anything; I make enough typos of my own! Good luck with DS

Ruth, we are having sleet/freezing rain tonight but this morning was okay. Weird weather.

Hannah, remember not to undereat and let your body think you are starving; that slows your metabolism as you probably know. Just keep on plan and the weight will come off.

Good morning from my wee iced in Village. Coffee is hot and ready and, since there's no milk, you may wish to try it with a bit of SF hot chocolate in it for a treat.

Early awakening and three scared dogs! :yikes" Richard was here at 5 with his noisy big machine and cleared the lane of the snow and ice we got overnight. I guess the pups were fast asleep and woke with a start because all three of them were barking and there was a puddle on the floor which nobody confessed to. All is well now and I do appreciate that Richard does my clearing on his way past to do commercial jobs. Now I know I can at least get out the lane to tackle the icy main roads when I take off mid-morning.

I must confess I have really been goofing off since Christmas and need to haul on my Big Girl Panties and crank up my life again. Eating has been just OK but very short on veggies. Today I am going to start a food diary and also a checklist for my meds which I have been ignoring. I am Type 2 diabetic and things are getting out of control. I go for bloodwork today and know it is not going to be good. I am not looking forward to discussing the results with Dr Jack.

After to medical appointment I will tackle more de-Christmassing, mainly because the "girls" and Steve are coming over after work for our semi-monthly gabfest which we didn't do all December. Steve is going to take down my high-up decorations inside house to save Michelle the trouble when she comes tomorrow.

I'm not sure if I need the thumb in the bum or the carrot on the stick motivation but I need to "de-slug" badly. (That's a problem when you love alone - no witnesses when you goof off!)

Good morning, chicks! The temperature will be going up but this morning we have ice leftover from last night so..... 2 hour delay for schools! That means I get to post AND drink coffee this morning. I got another downward movement on the scale this morning so I am back to my pre-holiday weight. Funny what a week or two of (mostly) on plan eating will do.

Pearlrose, I pack my lunch every day. Better to have it and then find something OP you can eat than the other way around. WFH today?

Debbie, I think we have swings and extremes here but your weather is really something. Did the snow melt and leave mud? Good luck navigating the construction.

Hannah, I echo Jennifer's info. I use MyFitnessPal to track my calories somewhat since it keeps me from getting sloppy. I have been doing SB for over 5 years and the maintaining part is hard. Very easy to overdue portions and number of cheats.

to everyone else. Have to go! Happy Peak of the Week (aka hump day)
