questions about the sbd.......

  • im curious about the SBD and how well it really works in the long term. does it intend for the person to give up carbs for life or does it eliminate carbs and then slowly add complex ones in? in a way to show america how much carbs they really eat??

  • Hi funkmaster!

SBD really is not about giving up carbs, it's about eating the right kind of carbs. You will eat plenty of good carbs in the form of vegetables, fruit, and whole grain foods. (These are more limited in phase 1 while you detox your body, but after 2 weeks when you enter phase 2 you will slowly add these back into your diet). What you are restricting and/or eliminating are the refined processed unhealthy carbs, such as white flour, sugar, etc.

SBD is also about eating healthy proteins and fats. You will eliminate as much as possible saturated and trans fats, and will eat healthy unsaturated fats that are found in olive and canola oil.

I no longer look at SBD as a diet, but rather as a new long-term Way of Life. This eating plan was originally developed as a healthy plan for cardiac patients, and the weight loss aspect of it came as a happy side-effect.

This is just a brief summary. I agree that Prevention.com has a lot of good information, as does the book if you have not yet had a chance to read it.

Good luck, and I hope you decide to join us!
