Summer months - slow down! I'd like August to stretch to 60 days! The good news is that it didn't rain one drop yesterday. The bad news is that I managed to put on three pounds of water weight overnight! (Yes, I did go for Chinese when in town yesterday but I had help from a friend. Amazing how that weight whooshes back - now I need a whoosh the other way.)
I'm heading outta here in an hour to pick up the bread order for the Mill. Then I'll be back here to wait for 9:30 when the staff will be there to carry it all in for me. I do have a key, of course, but we have some critters in the mill who would love fresh bread for breakfast so I can't just drop it off and leave. We've had mice, of course, but also have had raccoons, a weasel, otters and even a pair of mink who loved to play tag on the water wheel when it wasn't running. It's always exciting to open the big Mill door first thing in the a.m.
My dogs are having a ball. I don't think Jazz has ever played as hard and as long as he has with Millie the past two weeks! He never played much with Disney since she was older but he and Millie are at it almost constantly. Right now it's tug-of-war with a poor stuffed rabbit. Millie found an old Kong in the yard - probably from the days of Lucy and Hershey - and sleeps with it. We start obedience classes in Kingston Sunday afternoon.
Time to shower and hop into the jeans for the trip to the baker. An early morning task sure gets the weekend off to a flying start.
Lifting the last of my coffee in a salute to Saturday!
Ruth, that's so sweet they're best buds now. What a heartwarming story. I think it would be a hoot to watch the mink playing!
Well, if the cat's away, the mice will play . DH and DS are gone...so it's just me and LuLu (nickname!). We're chillin' for a little bit, then we're off to go garage saleing. I guess I should do cleaning, menu planning, and grocery shopping too, huh?
The one good thing about DH being gone is I get to use the Keurig .
Me, caught a cold darnit. Today will be doing as little as possible while taking some remedies hoping it doesn't get worse. I go back to work tomorrow. I'm thinking I can kick it...
Twynn, how funny - my husband and son are going away for the weekend too! I'm going to meet a friend for a movie and brunch, and then just come home and enjoy my apartment by myself and putter around here this evening. I never, ever get time along in my apartment so I can't wait! Last night I started a movie on Netflix "Diana" - about Princess Diana's relationship with that cardiologist Hasnat Kahn. Definitely a guilty pleasure and I'll finish it up tonight.
I also need to do a bunch of cooking and prep for next week so I can just slip into Phase 1 without thinking about it. And there's filing, etc. I can do all this peacefully on my own but it's hard to get it done with the menfolk around, if you know what I mean.
Ruth, I'm glad for you re: the rain. Hopefully it will stay clear this weekend!
Morning! I actually slept in a bit this morning, 6:30 ish, and then laid in bed to read a bit. It was a nice change for me.
Checked off a few niggles yesterday: oil change, business calls, groceries. Today I hope to get a bit of yardwork done since we may have a bit of a break from the rain.
Ruth, glad the pups are getting along so well. I would have a tough time smelling a carload of fresh bread and not partaking! Tammy, have a good day with DD. We love our men, but sometimes a little break for girl time is good, eh? Debbie, hope you feel better soon. Mmckellen, enjoy your alone time too!
Off to make some breakfast. Have a great day, chicks!
We are going out to dinner tonight with my book club and spouses. Nothing else planned for the weekend. Yesterday I got 23 pages of social worker records for my dad's first years in foster care. Fascinating. Too bad they had to black out his biological father's name.
Sneaking in from work while I eat my lunch. Alone time???? What is that??? I go from being the only female at home (dogs are boys too lol) to working with mostly men lol.
Ruth don't be mad, but I got your whoosh. Lol woke up 4 pounds lighter then yesterday. Believe me I was retaining water. Had to get up three times during the night. I just wish the whoosh would come when I am awake lol
Got sad news yesterday afternoon, my brother in law died of a drug overdose. I did not like him due to those issues and dragging my sister into it but would never wish an end like that for anyone.
Today DH and I got to see a private concert by American Authors that was kinda of cool and then DD1 and 2 and I did some back to school tax free shopping this afternoon.
Ruth glad you didn't get any rain and sorry I got a swoosh of 3 lbs this morning from eating clean yesterday.
Pearlrose sad news is never easy. a thinking of you and your family. My BFF's second husband (first one was even worse) was a heroin addict. We were all clueless, some cop I am. After their daughter was born he went to look at a car aka buy drugs in Newark and totaled their minivan. He was arrested and forced into rehab. He relapsed, but eventually got clean. They were just starting to rebuild their lives together and he dropped dead of a heart attack at 34! She said even though she is sad for her kids she no longer has to worry is everything he tells her a lie, why money disappears, his angry mood swings etc.
In a little while I am off to buy......cannolis!!!! Yes major food porn. Taking some to Joe's dad, he is in a nursing home recovering from a knee replacement. Others go to our wonderful sales associate at Sears. He has saved us thousands on appliances!!!! Such a nice kid who is from Staten Island. He jokes he can't find good cannolis in Albany. There is an awesome bakery by me. I may even enjoy one myself.
Otherwise just odds and ends planned until I return to work on Wed. Hope everyone enjoys their day.
Pearlrose, so sorry to hear of your BILs death - a sad way to go at such a young age. My DH's brother was an alcoholic and died a horrible death. I am sure you will be comfort to your sister and her children.
Jekel, cannnolis are my very favourite indulgence. I can get them only by driving to "Little Italy" in Ottawa and a three hour round trip is a bit much. Don't think I'll do that.
Today is the "charming" Doreen's 80th birthday party over at the Park and I'm hoping she can tone down her miserable and complaining attitude for the day. Sure hope so as a lot of people have made an effort to make it a success. I made a rum cake early in the week and must thaw the thing right now. I plan to be there fairly briefly since I have a poor tolerance level for complainers. Luckily I have obedience training in Kingston at 4 and may "adjust" the time so I can get away after an hour or so. Who starts a birthday party at 10:00 A.M.? I'd rather stick pins in my eyes but will go and behave myself!
Despite my efforts, Jazz escaped again yesterday. I'm really not sure how he gets out. After walking the neighbourhood for a while, I finally heard him barking at the deck door. He may have just been snooping around in the bushes in or own dogyard. I think I need a man to cut down everything along the fenceline but do like my lovely green enclosure.
Time for another coffee and a weather check so I can decide what to wear for today's festivities. Maybe just jeans and a T-shirt since I'll be "dogging it" in Kingston later. Maybe just pasties and a g-string since it's going to be hot and muggy.
Whatever you do, face the day with a good attitude. You can be negative and miserable when you get old but nobody will like you.
I am sad to say it Jennifer, but I've never been a big cannoli eater. Guess it's good to stay that way, one less indulgence!
Ruth, at least he hasn't taught that sweet Minnie of yours how to get out yet, right?
MMCK - did you enjoy your alone girl day?
I did almost nothing yesterday. Well, except for reading an entire book! DD and I went garage sale-ing. She even got some prices down (*blush* I'm so proud), and bought a few things for a dollar. I picked up 4 books for a dollar too!
Since I was so lazy yesterday, I told DD that we need to clean up, plan menus, and grocery shop today. It's kinda damp and dreary out, so a good day to do it. I think I'll make another batch of those banana PB muffins, they're so filling and handy!
