Unhappy Gained Back 2.3 lbs - So Discouraged...

Hi everyone,

I've been trying so hard and staying on plan and I've even started going to the gym taking Zumba classes (taken 2 kick-a** classes so far)...at my last weigh-in on Saturday I was down 3 lbs. Today I got on the scale and I had a gain and a pretty significant one at that...I am now up 2.3, for a total loss of .7 lbs in almost 2 weeks. I am SO disappointed in myself, I don't know what to do. The only thing I can think of that might've caused this is my addiction to nuts. I've been snacking on them and going WAY over the allotted 15 nuts. WAY OVER.

So nuts are my favorite snack, but I may need to ditch them, and also I'm finding that I'm not getting alot of water in (yesterday I did, but usually not). I feel like I have to start all over and it's so discouraging.

Btw, I don't know if this is relevant, but I do have a significant amount of weight to lose, not just a few pounds. I am about 50-60 lbs overweight.

The first thing I would say is that you are gaining muscle mass and retaining water with hard work outs. I would bet, if you didn't exercise this week (not recommended!), you'd drop those couple pounds.

As well, it sounds like you're working hard and staying on track (cashews are my downfall. Dear goodness, I can't stop at 15 either!), that you should pay more attention to your measurements than your weight. Are your clothes baggy? More comfie?

Don't let this discourage you! You didn't gain 50 lbs overnight, and you won't lose it overnight either. Do you feel better on SBD, and especially with exercise? Whenever you're discouraged, remember how good you feel, that you're doing this for yourself, and you deserve it! And then visit here and find all the good success stories .

Good luck!

So sorry, but try not to get discouraged. Nuts are probably the culprit, especially if they are salted. But if that's your only discrepancy on Phase 1, you are doing pretty well.

Try separating your nuts into individual servings, or eliminating them completely for the next few days, and drink lots of water. That should help get rid of that excess water weight. Also, take a good look at what you're eating to make sure that you aren't consuming a lot of sodium and make sure no sugar is sneaking in.

Not everyone loses a lot of weight on Phase 1. It varies greatly. Phase 1 is for detoxing and eliminating cravings. The real weight loss happens in Phase 2, so hang in there and don't give up.

Nuts are the only food I measure. It is so easy to go overboard and they are very caloric. I am also careful which nuts I keep in the house. Right now we have raw almonds and raw walnuts. The raw nuts are healthier because of no added salt (or oil for dry roasting) and for me, they are less tempting since I don't find that as tasty as other nut versions. So I only eat them when I am actually hungry instead of just wanting to eat them because they taste good.
