Good morning! It's shaping up to be a beautiful day here, and I hope everyone else is enjoying nice weather this weekend. I have to run out for a few groceries this morning, and better get this gift wrapped in time for my niece's surprise bridal shower at noon. After that I'm catching the train to my DD's to spend the night since we have to be at the starting point at the break of dawn Sunday morning for the 5K run.
My first cup of coffee was so good that I think I'll have another before I get going. Who wants to join me?
Sounds like a great weekend, Cottage! Enjoy all your events.
Glad it's beautiful there, because it is really gloomy here. That wind was whippin' around all night, and hasn't stopped. I should look at the forecast and see if the sun peeks out this weekend.
Cottage - my hair was probably close to my bra strap or so, and I just cut it to chin length . I LOVE it! I've had this length before, but she cut it this time to take advantage of my natural wave (vs. fighting it to make it straight).
Today - I have a jam packed day at work, then hopefully take DD to get her haircut (just a trim, she'd look adorable with a bob, but that long red hair suits her!!) and possibly the library. Maybe a little down time from the past couple weeks of craziness.
We're grilling out again tonight - welcome, spring!
Linda - Enjoy your day. Hopefully the good weather will hold for the run.
Tammy - I wondered what you'd decided with your hair.
I'm working the closing shift tonight. With our new supervisor who I have only met in passing. I understand that this is the first time she'll close without another manager to guide her. Fingers crossed she knows what she's doing and we get out on time.
Not much else going on this week. Niggles around home today.
Good morning It's still gray here but the sun is supposed to come out by lunchtime. I've got a super busy day off - errands, last winter CSA, snow tires off, cleaning, laundry, and a party tonight. Speaking of the party I need a good salad idea. What is your favorite salad to feed non-Beachers? I'm thinking about that cabbage, red bean, & feta salad but haven't decided yet.
Cottage - Have fun at the run
Twynn - Happy grilling! I've grilled 4 times already this year and am planning another grill night tomorrow. I so love grilling season
Okay, better get moving. Tomorrow is seed starting day so lots to get done today!
Good morning, I'll join Linda and Tammy for a coffee - my second this morning. So glad you both have spring down there! Sounds like a busy but fun weekend, Linda. Say Hi to the family. Tammy, sounds like a busy day for you too. I am so envious of your being able to grill tonight.
My little Russian prince and I were up at 6:30. I showered and then got into my jammies. He's been out and is now back in bed - my bed! It's supposed to rain off and on today so I may just stay in my jammies since this is going to be my day "off".
If I feel more ambitious later (and get dressed) I may go out and continue to hack away at the snow pile on the deck that's keeping me from using my BBQ. The darn snow is melting but not fast enough for me. The pile on the front lawn is shrinking but is big and ugly - I think half the gravel from the lane got picked up by the plough and dumped there. I am still waiting for my snowdrops - then I'll believe it's Spring.
Now it's time to clean up the kitchen and decide whether or not I am going to bake today. The Syrup Festival is Easter Weekend and the Mill has a huge bake sale. I'm hoping to have all my cookies baked and frozen so I will just need to package them. I want to make some maple syrup pies too but they do not freeze well. I might do the pie shells and freeze them though.
On we go with another day closer to real spring. Send it north, Chickies!
ETA: Hi Karen. I hope the day goes well. Cyndi, does your getting that cross border licence mean we might see you up here this summer?
I've got some catching up to do. My first pot of coffee is still brewing. We stayed out late last night. It's still hard to get used to not working on Saturday. Today's focus will be to get everything ready for the pup. He's going to stay with my mom while we're gone. I need to get all his pills chopped up and counted out and separated so it's easy for her to dispense. Other than that just hang out at home there's too much snow here for any gardening.
I will join you for another cup of coffee albeit a quick one as I have to be to the store in a couple hours to promote the yoplait Greek yogurt. People seem to love tasting it though so it's kind of a fun demo to do Our April showers seem to have left although we are in dire need of rain, I'm thinking I will see if the botanical gardens are open tomorrow; Mark & I have been wanting to go but they are only open some weekends and we will probably grill something in the evening as well. We ought to have a grilling poll to get ideas?? I know we always seem to grill the same things
Cottage-have fun@ the bridal shower & run.
Twynn-glad you like your do. I am always toying with going shorter but not brave enough to do the chop.
Karen-Sending good thoughts out to the new managers for a smooth closing.
Cyndi-I like to make an Asian Peanut Slaw but it uses the Spicy Peanut dressing from Trader Joes (in their refrigerated section) about 1/2 a bottle + 1 bag broccoli slaw + 1 1/2 C halved red grapes + 1/2 cup dry roast peanuts. You can also eyeball it & adjust the nuts & grapes to what you feel is a good amount. I don't know if that helps since I don't know if its potluck or if you're matching against a menu but I go to a lot of potlucks and if I am in the salad category this is what I bring because it is sweet & spicy so it satisfies lots of tastes.
Cyndi, I don't have time to post it here, but check out that recipe for Skinny Taco Dip on my Favorite Recipes Board on Pinterest. You can either serve it as a dip or as a salad, and everyone just raves about it.
Cyndi - If it doesn't need to be a green salad, we've often brought Quinoa and Black Beans. It is great for vegetarians because it is a heartier side as an alternative to typical main dish proteins that are served.
Cyndi - which salad did you go with? I do like that feta, bean, and cabbage one. Hadn't made it in a while.
Debbie - sounds like a nice, slow day for you!
Ruth - did you chip away at the snow, bake, or both?
PearlyGirly - Mmmm, that sounds delish. Go ahead, chop off the hair, it'll grow back!
Yesterday went decent, and I don't think we have a lot planned today. It was quite a dreary day here, but today is already looking way prettier. I guess I do need to do the never ending menu making and grocery shopping - but hopefully a nice walk with Emma Jean the pup .
Good morning, Tammy and Beachies yet to come. We are going to have a spring-like day for a change. There is a rumour circulating that Spring is really arriving. I saw more geese flying yesterday and they were flying in the right direction.
Yesterday I stayed in my jammies until 3 and did very little except sew labels onto two quilts and change an ink cartridge.
Today I'll crank myself up and get things done since this is going to be a busy week. The temps are climbing and 59ºF is predicted for tomorrow with 49 supposed to be happening today. The spring melt has started and I have a creek running through my dogyard as the snow melts in the back field and the cliff. I sure hope the culvert is open under all the snow.
After having been away for a while, I am still catching up on what you all are doing. Sounds like we are all hoping that Spring is finally here! Cyndi, how was your party? I am going to hang on to those recipe suggestions! Sue, the Asian Peanut Slaw sounds awesome, and I hadn't thought to grill this weekend so I am glad you mentioned it, I am inspired!
My plan for today involves raking the yard, the giant pile of snow from blowing all the driveway snow onto the yard mashed the grass into a dead yellowed thatch. If I get that done, it's on to clearing out the gardens.
Cottage, I hope the run and the bridal shower went well! Have a great finish to the weekend, chicks!
