Cheese Allowance?

  • Hi all! I used to frequent this forum, but let's just say I got lost for a few years, haha.

Anyway, I'm back, and back on South Beach. I do have a question though.

When I look at the wonderful sticky about Phase 1 foods, it doesn't say how MUCH cheese you are allowed, just what types of cheese. Can someone tell me what the daily limits/recommendations are on cheese?

    Thank you so much!
  • Low fat or reduced fat cheese with less than 6g of fat per ounce. I believe dairy is 2c per day, but that doesn't mean 2c of cheese or half and half. It is a little confusing I was checking my Super Charged book, but cannot find an exact answer. I'll keep looking unless someone else has an answer
  • I don't believe there is any "set" amount of cheese you can have, but just remember that cheese is high in calories, so it's best to keep it to a reasonable amount.
  • I want a cheese allowance....
  • I typically keep myself to no more than 1 cup a day (typically 1/2 c) and at least another cup of other dairy. It seems to work for me!
  • Just a reminder that cheese is considered a protein on SBD, not part of your dairy requirement.

    mmmm, me too!

One ounce/28 grams is typically considered a "serving" of cheese. I usually limit myself to one or two servings a day. I count calories in addition to doing SBD, so it always annoys me how many calories are in a serving of cheese - 110 in the tiny ounce I added to my salad yesterday! There are times in the past when I have had a large proportion of my calories coming from cheese and nuts Danger, danger... mmmm but so delicious...
