January 2012 Phase One re-start!!

I can't be the only one planning to go back to Phase One in the new year. These past few months have just killed me health-wise, lack of sleep from a toddler, busy at work and grad school, running and exercise being pushed to the back burner, and far too much gross food consumed. I'm up at least 10 pounds from September (yikes).

Who is with me!?? A full two weeks of Phase One? :carrot:

grneyedmustang 12-28-2011 02:19 PM

I'm sure I'll be phase I'ing it for at least 3 days after the New Year starts. Count me in. :D

lees3rwe 12-28-2011 03:21 PM

Hey Everyone... I am brand new here and brand new to South Beach. My husband and I are starting together and we will pretty much have our son on Phase 2 (with little treats here and there). I need to lose at least 75 lbs. and my husband wants to lose around 25-30.

I am looking forward to the support of the board in our new journey!

Chelby29 12-28-2011 04:20 PM

I'm in starting Jan. 1. That will give me time to get the junk out of my house!

Welcome to the Beach, Lees3! :welcome:

Mmckellen 12-28-2011 08:57 PM

I'm in too but starting January 2 (we have parties and a chinese meal out on Jan. 1). Let's do it!

SouthLake 12-28-2011 10:45 PM

I'm in. I'll be starting on the second as well- we have our family Christmas on the first and dinner is homemade gnocchi. The last few months have been rough, and I've gained back more weight than I really care to think about. I'm hoping that sticking to phase one and adding rowing to my routine will get me back on track until I get this sleep apnea junk figured out. I'm planning on adding fruits back in after two weeks, but staying completely grain free for the month of January.

nancy237 12-29-2011 02:20 AM

I have been on the WW Core forum for a long time , but want to try South Beach. My cousin and I both are starting with phase one Jan 1st or 2nd.
I went overboard with food shopping for the kids that all came home from college. I lost my husband in March and I needed this Chrismas to be filled with all the comfort foods that are familiar to us.

My plan is to send as much food as possible home with all the kids. Then its just me at the house and it will be easier to stick to a plan. I also have just joined a gym so I need to make that a habit.

jenne1017 12-29-2011 03:16 AM

:welcome: to the newbies and yay for jumping on it anew!

I will pop in from time to time but am doing fairly well on PH2 - never hurts to get a day of Ph1 in every so often.

TwynnB 12-29-2011 07:13 AM

lees3rwe - LOL...don't get mad when your husband drops 2-3 lbs with barely even trying!!!

I'm with greeneyedmustang - at least a few days. I'll probably do the 1.5 (no grains, with fruit) especially if my work outs are on well...

CyndiM 12-29-2011 07:17 AM

I've done a better job staying on plan this last hospital stay but my exercise has been non-existent. I'm hitting 1.5 hard with a solid exercise/fitness plan in the new year. Time to put that FitBit to use!

WaistingTime 12-29-2011 07:59 AM

Welcome, new chicks :)

lees3rwe 12-29-2011 08:29 AM

Thanks for the warm welcome... yes... he will drop a lot faster than me. Years ago, when I did weight watchers for the first time, he dropped 25 lbs. by the time I dropped 8.

I will try not to get mad. LOL.

fozentusic 12-29-2011 09:54 AM

Yay!

I find SBD in general - whether phase one or phase two - really labour intensive in preparing food. But that's the way eating should be - eating real foods that you've made yourself. I love cooking and prepping healthy meals but I struggle with finding enough time to do it all. I've been stocking up my freezer with P1 friendly foods over the past few weeks: soup, curries, meatballs, meat marinades etc. in the hopes that it will keep me on track!

I am cutting out all wheat for January too. When I move to P2 I will go to quinoa, brown rice etc. I find they are much less likely to lead to a binge!

redautumn 12-30-2011 10:12 AM

My husband and me are starting Jan. 1. I want to lose 30 lbs and he is wanting to lose 40 lbs. I am hypothyroid so it can be hard to lose. I know he will lose more quickly than me but as long as I start to lose and keep losing. He wants to do weigh ins every Sunday. I want to add measurements to it. I want to stick with this and am writing up a few menus that follow SBD. I also have a few exercises in mind through the week. My favorite is my Zumba class I take on Mondays. That is the only one I can make. I also have Zumba on the Wii and Dance Party 3, a couple yoga DVDs and strength training. I do want to take pix of us starting and through it to goal. Maybe is we can see the changes we will stick with it. Hoping to hit my first goal in 2 months. My, I am quite chatty today.

ABue1 12-31-2011 11:39 AM

Hi, I originally started sbd last summer and was very happy with the results. I expected it to be much more difficult than it was to not eat bread. After a few weeks I came up with my on plan of sbd and counting ww points plus. Long story short, I lost a total of 15 pounds. Since the end of November, I have not really been trying so it is time to "reboot" my system. I have not weighed in for the last couple of weeks and my last weigh in was 148. I am planning to start again with phase 1 on jan 2 as we have one more event on New Years Day. I will weigh in on Monday morning and face the music:D. To be accountable to myself, I commit to posting the damage done. Looking forward to feeling empowered again.

srego909 12-31-2011 02:45 PM

I too am ready to start fresh! I am preparing a tomato spinach soup & sb veggie chili to start off right! I even ordered new running shoes that work w my ipod (nike+). Lets make 2012 our best year ever! :)

shelflife 12-31-2011 08:21 PM

I'm starting P1 fresh again too! Post with us in the on plan thread! It's awesome for keeping track of your eating and sharing all things "on plan" with each other!

I've got a brunch on january 8 that might be tricky to navigate strictly on plan, but otherwise, I've gotta keep these next two weeks clean!

srego909 01-01-2012 09:15 AM

Well i started the new year right - blk coffee & morning walk w my hubby & pup. Cooked my veggies & eggs Hungry Girl style :) off to prep soups for luncheon. We can do this!

Pearlrose 01-01-2012 09:26 AM

Count me in, I already had my Phase 1 breakfast. I may not do the whole two weeks but will see how the cravings are. I am ready to get rid of all the weight I gained back last year and continue on.

Welcome to all the new chickees!!!

jessicags 01-01-2012 11:43 AM

Hi all

I'm new all around, to 3 fat chicks and the South Beach Diet. I'm starting JSB on Jan 3rd (have a dinner with a great aunt on the 2nd that would be impossible to not eat her food). I want to lose 35 lbs. Nervous about phase 1 but know I need it--carbs/sugar is my worst enemy.

Hoping to draw inspiration from you all. Best of luck to everyone!

fozentusic 01-01-2012 12:55 PM

Welcome, jessicags!

How is everyone doing on their day one? I'm so hungry... *whine whine* haha.

swandive81 01-01-2012 09:02 PM

Back on the beach starting tomorrow! I am not weighing myself until the AM, so I don't know what the damage of the past year or so has been, but I know it's not pretty! I stocked up the fridge and pantry today, and did some cooking tonight... a big pot of lentils, some braised kale, roasted veggies, which I figured are good foods to mix-and-match with eggs, beans, salad, etc. throughout the week for a varied phase one... it's on!!!

Looking forward to taking this journey with all of you! Happy new year :)

mlmagic 01-02-2012 01:42 AM

Me too...Starting tomorrow back to the beach! Have to get 25 of the 50 I lost some time back...:dizzy:

Oh well, what can ya do, except just start and stay on plan! Yes, we all can do this, one day at a time! :smug:

srego909 01-02-2012 12:23 PM

My 1sr official day on P1 & doing great. Eggs & veggie for breakfast, spag dinner for lunch(spag squash used for noodles). Made sb shep pie for quick meals. :)

djs06 01-02-2012 02:18 PM

Hi all! I am a veteran 3fcer but a first-time South Beacher. Excited to get started (today is my day one after putting on 9 lbs of holiday bloat. blah.) I've spent my day perusing recipes and this forum has helped SO MUCH! Good luck to everyone!

ABue1 01-02-2012 02:28 PM

Well, I did it :cp: I stepped on the scale after 2 or 3 weeks. Not too bad. To stay accountable I promised to post. 150 lbs. not as bad as I thought it might be.:carrot:Unfortunatly, I can't start phase 1 today. I haven't been to the groc store and I'm not as well stocked as I thought. Also, too much junk in the fridge, soo tomorrow's the day.

ABue1 01-02-2012 02:36 PM

I mean I weigh 150, not gained 150  gained 3 lbs.

shelflife 01-02-2012 03:21 PM

Welcome everyone!

EmmaD 01-02-2012 05:37 PM

Yes, yes, YES, I am back on the P1 wagon.

I have been looking forward to this in an odd way. I have been traveling and visiting family for the last two weeks and it has been a disaster. Actually I have been slipping for the last SIX months but it was accelerated by the holidays/vacation. I am flabby and feel like :censored: and based on how my "big" clothes are fitting, I am larger than I was when I weighed the same previously. Say what?

I dared to step on the scale today. I am up 10-12 lbs from six months ago. WHY did I do this to myself? It is so ridiculously difficult for me to lose weight, talking more than a year to get where I was.

ANYway, I have come to accept that I need to radically change my relationship with food & eating. I may not be overweight but I have some scary eating habits and very self-destructive thinking in this realm. I still don't know why. I feel so much better when I am not obsessively thinking about <insert name of simple carb food>, so I need to just suck it up and make a plan to get myself back in shape.

Phase 1 today but a very disordered, unplanned Phase 1 day so I am not posting a menu. Tomorrow will be planned. I've made bean soup, roasted nuts and spaghetti squash deep dish pie and I will go shopping tonight to stock up on fresh veggies/Greek yogurt/eggs/tofu/fish.

:goodvibes to all of us

Nutmeg1282 01-02-2012 05:48 PM

I am restarting tomorrow.

I have been doing SBD since 6/10. I have lost 50+ pounds but the last few months have been baaaaddd food choices left and right.

I also hit a painful food rut so I just ordered the SBD Quick and Easy cook book and used all new meals for this restart!

I cant wait to get my energy back and glad we wont be eating out anymore.

Good luck everyone else!!!

lees3rwe 01-02-2012 05:59 PM

Hanging in there... I am so TIRED though!
This happens every time I try a carb restricted diet... I am holding on though.

Good meal plan for today and I took a two mile walk .

CyndiM 01-02-2012 06:08 PM

Make sure you are getting your 2 dairy servings and have some beans every day to help with the detox and tiredness.

Nutmeg - :wel3fc: Check out the recipes here too. There are lots of great ideas. I still love skimming through when I hit a rut. The other day I found a recipe I posted three years ago and had forgotten all about!

asphyxia63 01-02-2012 08:15 PM

Count me in! The past few months have been rough and I've gained back at least half of what I lost! Yesterday and today weren't too bad but not strict P1. Tomorrow is my first day off of the new year and I will be shopping and meal planning for two weeks of P1!

lees3rwe 01-02-2012 10:33 PM

I had some navy beans with dinner and I think that helped.
It is really going to take some playing around to figure out what works best!

And boy, you guys weren't kidding about all of the prep... this is WORK!

djs06 01-03-2012 09:55 AM

How's everyone doing today? I'm feeling rather miserable... I went and had my 'normal' morning workout this morning, and it was TOUGH. No way of knowing whether it was the 9 pounds of bloat I put on over the holidays, the fact that I have been sick and then away and therefore not at the gym for at least 2 weeks, or the fact that I didn't sleep enough last night.

Nevertheless... I'm exhausted and my stomach is feeling unsettled and I don't even want to think about my midmorning snack. Bleh. I know this is part of the process and I'm just detoxing HARD especially after eating so unhealthily over the last 2 weeks, but uggggggggggggggh.

I'm thinking I'll stick with the workout plan in Supercharged for the phase one, at least for the most part. I like getting in more cardio but I don't think that'll happen for the next few weeks. On the positive side, 2 lbs of the bloat is gone and it's only been a day. I will be relieved if I can get rid of all of my holiday weight during the first 2 weeks.

sanaylor 01-03-2012 10:04 AM

Hello All!! I just started this again yesterday. So far soo good.
I did SB before about a year ago and did well until we went on vacation and didn't stick to anything and ate whatever we wanted. So, now we are ready to make this a life long way of eating for health. Good luck everyone!

fozentusic 01-03-2012 10:45 AM

lees - it gets easier and becomes second nature. I enlist the DH to do some sous-chef work like chopping vegs. I also stock my freezer with meals as I make larger quantities.

Day 3 for me. I find days 3-5 the most difficult, getting over the hump and ignoring the carb cravings!

We can do it!

thefrenchgirl 01-03-2012 10:51 AM

Hi, Girls! We (my husband, my best friend & I) have been on a 3 week vacation from South Beach. I'm up 5 pounds, but I'm not sweating it. We enjoyed all our old favorites over the holidays and a couple of family birthdays. I am ready & excited to be launching 2 weeks of Phase 1 today and know that I will quickly drop those 5 pounds. Much to the chagrin of my office mates, I had stinky eggs & canadian bacon for breakfast. I will Zumba after work, then have venison roast & a big salad for dinner. Good luck & HAPPY NEW YEAR! PS. Drink water!!!

asphyxia63 01-03-2012 01:48 PM

starting off rough already... i made a bunch of hard boiled eggs last night and undercooked the whole batch! i've never done that before!
i was really looking forward to deviled eggs for breakfast too! :(

srego909 01-03-2012 06:39 PM

I stuck to the plan today. My treat was pb cookies (carb free) - kept me honest. Even went to a gym class(almost died lol). Ill prep my food tonight for tomorrow.
