Best bread for SBD

  • I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask this but what is the best bread to buy while on phase 2? I have a publix,Kroger and Walmart here. I've seen a Natures Own 9 grain bread but I'm not sure about it. Any others? Bread is confusing!
  • Hi, Shellie. You should look for a bread that is 100% WHOLE WHEAT and has at least 5 grams of fiber per serving.

Look in our FAQ section for the stickied thread on guidelines for bread for more helpful infomation.
  • All I can tell you is that you MUST read the ingredients. That is the only way you can be sure it's 100% whole grain. The first ingredient must be whole wheat (or another whole grain) flour, and if it says "enriched flour" anywhere on the package, put it back.

I could rant for a bit about misleading labels, but I'll just say that words like "multigrain" are completely meaningless, and "made with whole grains" doesn't = 100% whole grain. If the bread says "100% whole wheat" than it has to be 100%, but I'd read the label anyway.
  • And I'm just going to add my own experience - I do best when I don't eat bread. I know many other beachers have no problem but for me it almost always leads to overeating. I LOVE bread

  • Third ingredient ENRICHED flour. I'd say it's a no.
  • I'll second that no. Enriched flour just means they stripped the wheat of everything nutritious and then added some vitamins in at the end.
  • Enriched flour -

    Fortified flour -
  • What bread is that nutritional info for? Its great that it has 6 grams of fiber. If you have no problem limiting yourself to 1 slice/serving, then I wouldn't think its too bad (especially if you already bought it).
