I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little.
I have been trying to lose weight since Jan 2009. I started Weight Watchers in Jan 2009 at 220.8 lbs. How it took me so long to look at myself and go...."you really need to do something about this" is beyond me. Denial!
For the first year on WW I did awesome! I dropped somewhere around 50-55 lbs. The second year I started off really well and then life happened. We went on two vacations within a 6 month span and then started trying for a baby. Which in turn means my focus was on other things besides what I ate. I'm now 16 lbs heavier than I was last July.
At the start of the year I decided to refocus on taking care of me. The month of Jan. I started back on WW and started going to the gym. Although my weight hasn't changed much I've gained more muscle and lost fat so I'm very pleased with that.
What brings me to SB is that last week I started going to a fertility specialist and one of the first things they did was a blood panel to test for PCOS and insulin resistance.
To fight the insulin resistance I've been put on Metformin 2 pills a day. They said my case is mild, they usually have their patients on 4 pills a day. along with the medication they recommend a low carb diet and suggest South Beach.
So here I am. Because we are celebrating V-day tomorrow I'm not actually going to start SB until Sunday. I've got my meals and snacks planned out, am still reading the SBD book.
I'm still waiting to hear back from the doctor as far as the PCOS goes. I got so wrapped up with the insulin and low carb that I completely forgot to ask for those results.
So Hello Everyone! I look forward to getting to know everyone and becoming a part of a community I've heard such wonderful things about already!
Wan2beamom! I hope you find this plan is working well for you. There are many Beachers who are doing the SBD/WW combo and having great success. Come and join us in our Daily chat, and we look forward to getting to know you!
It's amazing how often I find people willing to let me "practice" child rearing LOL I'm sure once I join the mommy group I will also be offering my kids up for people to "practice" with! =D
I will check out that post too Karen!! That might be an option for me! I think at least through Phase 1 I will stick to just SBD as I don't want to get side tracked. But as I get to Ph 2 points might be a good thing to incorporate again. I find I'm fairly good about keeping my portion sizes in check most of the time or am at least aware when I'm eating over 1 portion. But I will be very interested to see how everyone feels about combining the two! Thanks!
