Default My bad eating habits and my 8 year old over weigh

I am going to share something very personal and something that hurts me very personally. I always had very bad eating habits as a kid i was always the one that was chubby or fat as everyone would tell me i would be pretty if i was not "fat" and that boys did not like girls that were fat. Well i always had very low self esteem and eat everything without thinking of what i was doing to my body well flash forward years later i had a boy and sense he was a baby he was tiny and small and growing up he was sooo skinny and i mean skinny i was very happy he was thin and didn't think he would have a problem with food and fed him junk didn't think anything of it. My bad eating habits affected my son. It is very sad how my son is 8 and is over weigh and i never wanted this for my son and I am over weigh my mom is over weigh I didn't teach my son good eating habits until now. Back to school shopping was so sad for the both of us I am sharing this because I never realised how my actions were affecting my son and i am having a very hard time teaching him good eating habits but is never too late. My baby girl is 10 months and i am starting her on the right track the entire family is now eating healthy and I do regret thinking that because someone is skinny is healthy or that they will be like that forever it all catches up to you everything you put into your body now will eventualy show up. Good luck to any of you who are not only dealing with your weigh issues but your kids it is very hard but i dont want my kids growing up with mcdonald's or any other junk food that will hurt them. Thanks for letting me vent...but i knew if i didn't eat healthy and show my son with action my son weighs what a 12 year old should weigh so you can imagine...

The important thing is that you've recognized the problem and are doing something to fix it. It's never too late to turn things around for your son. Lead by example and he will follow, as will your daughter.

I agree - it is great that you recognize this and are taking the steps to make a change for you all. I honestly would go back and change how I fed my boys if I could. They don't eat veggies and they eat a lot of "bad" stuff but at least they only at when they are hungry and luckily got some skinny gene that neither their dad or I have.

I am so proud of you for taking a handle on this now. As you can see you already have a ton of support on here.
I think our kids have to be taught how to eat and how to make healthy choices. Take him grocery shopping with you also and may good choices.
Start some form of exercise. Just a walk with maybe little sis in the stroller.

It is never to late to start getting healthy for yourself and others.

Be proud of the choice you have made. I am proud of you.
