Default Vacation coming Help needed!

Hi,

I am just starting out on SBD and loving it. It is a bit hard right now but it's going well.

I have a problem, I am going on vacation next week with my whole family (parents, siblings, kids, etc...) we are going to Florida and visiting the 4 Disney parks.
I come from a family who loves to eat. Any tips on how to eat healthy and keep on SBD while on vacay?

TP

I remember going to the O'Hana restaurant a zillion years ago. They have long skewers of lean meats which are REALLY good. Kind of pricey, but my favorite restaurant there.

I do recommend buying one of the plastic Disney cups for your diet soda and tea, if you drink it. Food and beverage prices are outrageous at Disney but the cup is a good deal.

You're going to be in Florida. Eat fresh, boiled/grilled/broiled seafood. Yum!

asuuming you have a fridge or one of those coolers that plug into the wall
Take lots of snacks like turkey pepperoni, cheese sticks, Celerey, laughing cow, peanut butter, cut up veggies prebagged, boil a bunch of eggs, take some turkey with lettuce, sf jello. Eat your snacks and maybe some of the veggies and such before you ever attempt any food in the parks. You can take your own food into the parks.

If you plan on eating in the park go to http://allears.net/din/dining.htm
You can look at menus and such at that site and get an idea. Plan your meals and KNOW what you will eat before you get there. You can carry water into the park. I would carry my own and skip buying in the park. It does get pricey to buy sodas and water in the park. They do have lots of places with fruit/cheese type snacks but again these are pricey.

We went to Disney in the fall before I started this way of eating. I ate what I wanted that week and still lost 7 pounds just from walking around. I wore a pedometer and after three days it DIED!!!

I just came back from Disney. With all the walking you'll do, you will be just fine. Surprisingly there are a lot of healthy options.

We stayed at a resort with a fridge in the room, so I ordered groceries from gardengrocer.com and they were delivered for arrival. We had a healthy breakfast each morning from the groceries. Water bottles were delivered as well (way too expensive in the park).

My advice would be stay away from the buffet restaurants. Most places, even counter service, have healthy choices. With the SBD I think you could have the smoked turkey legs. They are all over and really yummy and filling. Grilled Mahi Mahi is at a lot of places too.

Like the above advice, I looked at the menus and planned some of the stuff in advance. I did splurge a bit (steak dinner, french pastry in paris at epcot, etc) but with all the walking I didn't gain anything. I would have lost if I hadn't splurged so much lol.

I went on vacation during Phase 1. We had a fridge in the hotel room and I stocked it with nf greek yogurt, string cheese, egg/cottage cheese muffins, nuts and tomato juice, hard boiled eggs. I packed snacks of nuts and cheese sticks and when we went out to eat I might have a burger and salad, or something like that. When I was on vacation, I loosened up a bit on the fat watching. I made it my commitment to avoid all carbs, and I stuck to it. I lost weight, and it was easy since I wasn't being so strict on the fat. Establish priorities that you can live with and stick with them. I still committed to eating at least 3 big servings of veggies a day. I did have a slice of SF cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory though.

I won't echo all the great advice everyone has given but maybe one or two points: PLANNING is key. You will also have to be strong - family sometimes won't get it but stand your ground.

Getting groceries delivered is a great idea too. Healthy snacks for everyone that way!!!

Thanks for all this great advice! We are renting a villa for a week with a full kitchen so I am pretty sure that I will be ok. I will definitely have to plan like you said.

I love the idea about the pedometer! I am going right out tomorrow to buy one. Also we have an indoor pool at the villa so I am excited about that.

You all are fantastic!
