Newbie
I usually lurk on forums but the past few years that I've tried to live a "healthier" lifestyle has led me to this site. So I figure why not. I chose to do the SBD because it seemed like something that fits me personally. I don't like soda, chips, snack cakes, candy or any process foods. However I do like to eat but I am very cautious of what I eat. Eat until I am full. Drink water which is easy because I LOVE water. I don't eat anything past 7pm unless time gets away from me or its my "free day."
Exercise wise, I refuse elevators, (they scare me) always park further away from my destination because I don't like to deal with high traffic. So because of my personal and actually unintentional lifestyle I'm within my healthy or "normal" BMI being about 5ft 5 and weight between 140-145lbs ( I'm 24 no kids other than my Great Dane Thor). However I feel I could stand to lose about 20lbs I have ordered the book and I am currently doing some research before I go out and spend $$$$. However one thing bugs me. I don't like beans (other than baked beans)or vegetables ( besides broccoli or cauliflower ). As I have been reading this is the most important factor within this diet. I have been reading for any type of solutions to this problem and as I've read there are none. I remember reading correctly one site even told its viewers to "Get over it." I don't make a big deal about eating them its just I don't like them the taste and texture ruin it for me. Especially beans even if I mixed them with something I would still taste them. One reason I don't like chili or tacos with beans. Since I doubt the book will help with my personal problem I thought maybe I could get some advice from the forum. Tips and tricks. I won't bombard the forum with absurd comments of not losing X amount weight. My goal is over come the fact of not liking beans or vegetables, eating organic/holistic foods, while enjoying the rewards of losing excess weight in the process. Thank you:) |
:welcome: RedRock! Yep, vegetables play a major role in the success of this plan. Have you tried eating them roasted, with perhaps a light drizzle of balsamic vinegar over them. Many people who have never cared for veggies just love them this way. You don't have to eat beans, but they are so full of fiber and nutrients that they fill you up fast and keep you feeling satisfied. What about salads, they are a good way to get your veggies in, and you can make all kinds of varieties of them. I see you do like broccoli and cauliflower, but that could get old fast, eating at least 4 cups of them every day. You could always puree carrots or zucchini and stir them into spaghetti sauce, too.
Good luck, and I hope I've given you some ideas you can find helpful. |
Hello and welcome! I am glad you are joining 3FC.
I wish you the best on your weight loss journey! Cheers, J |
Thanks for the welcome.
Cottagebythesea, thank you. I am willing to at least try new things. I have never thought about roasting vegetables. I did a quick search and it seems like steamed doesn't even compare roast. So I'll give it a try after I read the book. I do like salads but only loaded with turkey or chicken with cheese. However I have been using Iceberg lettuce which I read is not that nutritional. I'll give romaine and baby spinach lettuce a try. As for the beans maybe if I mash them or try to "eliminate" them in some way they won't be as bad. I'll just keep looking for new recipes. |
Welcome, Red Rock :)
Not liking beans or veggies may present you with some challanges on this plan - not wanting to discourge you or anything. We were feeling "stuck" on just eating brocolli or cauliflower on Phase 1 (we are ending our 3rd week on P1.) When I went to the grocery store the other day, I walked up and down the produce aisle looking at all of the produce we never eat, wondering, now, how can I cook THAT?? I ended up bringing home kale, spinich, yellow cauliflower (steamed and mashed it is DEVINE!) and rutabagas, which I found out we can't eat until Phase 2. But I am looking forward to roasting them then. I guess my point is that this may be a time to throw caution to the wind and try new things. Good luck and know we are here supporting you :) |
Welcome RedRock. I am not a big veggie fan either so work hard to eat more on this plan. I have found that how you prepare them makes a big difference. Roasted green beans are a favorite of mine - so different from canned or frozen. Even DH will tolerate asparagus if I roast it, as will I. (I just read Cottage saying the same thing about roasting!)
The taco bake on here has mushrooms that you would never, ever know are in there. And the beans are pretty minimal too. Try it! Also, colored peppers are sweeter than green. And fresh snow peas are tastier to me than cooked. You just need to experiment. Or eat a lot of broc and caul. BTW - broccoli is supposed to be one of the healthiest foods out there. You can do it! Even if you never eat beans. |
Thanks everyone for the welcome and suggestions. No, no words are discouraging in the least, just the honest truth. I'm still researching and like I said I won't any sudden moves until I get my book. So until then I am just thinking of ways to incorporate them into my diet so that I don't dread them. Right now besides roasting adding them in soups or salads might be good, or sneaking them into breakfast. That was one thing I loved about this diet, allows you to think outside the box.

RedRock -:welcome: to the Beach! The girls all make great points!
I like zucchini now and i like it "fried" (see recipe in recipe section). Cucumbers are my favorite and I dip them in everything: hummus, put them in salads, eat them like apples. Spaghetti squash is yummy too! Check out the recipe section and experiement! |
Welcome Red Rock! You have a great attitude and I bet you're going to find out that there are a lot of veggies out there you love. Try a new one a week or something. Buy fresh when you can and next frozen. The only canned vegetable I purchase is tomatoes. I just can't stand the taste (or sodium content) of other canned vegetables. Browse through our recipe section and try out some of the veggie recipes there. Good luck!
