Wolf Moon Weekend Beach Chat
Good Morning:sunny:
Tonight's full moon will be the biggest and brightest full moon of the year. This being the first full moon of 2010, it is also known as the wolf moon, dating back to Native American culture and the notion that hungry wolves howled at the full moon on cold winter nights. Each month brings another full moon name. Tonight it will be about 14 percent wider and 30 percent brighter than lesser full Moons of the year. It was bright and cold outside here, but quiet-no wolves howling. I'm going to stay home and play with all the fabric I bought yesterday-other than that-exercise-maybe a dip in the pool. What's up in your neck of the woods? Sit and chat :cofdate: but most of all-Have a great weekend everyone! |
Good morning, Debbie, and all who are joining us this on this Wolf Moon Saturday. :) I hope to be able to see the full moon tonight, but it's supposed to be cloudy here. 've been admiring the moon on my drive home every night this week, though. It's been big and full. It sounds like you have a nice day planned, working with your new serger and all your colorful fabrics.
There's a big snowstorm just south of us, but we're only supposed to get flurries from it. We'll see if the forecast is right. I bet Schmoodle is getting snockered, though! I really don't know what today holds, but we don't have anything planned. We're running out for breakfast and some errands soon, and will probably head back home and spend the rest of the day working on the jigsaw puzzle. It's a difficult one, but we're enjoying the challenge. Have a satisfying Saturday, everyone! |
Awesome thread title! Thanks for the lesson, Debbie. Have a great day.
A jigsaw puzzle sounds fun, Cottage. I like the non-challenging kind. I am very blurry-eyed. Got to sleep late, slept poorly. DS has an indoor soccer game at 6:50 this morning. Usually they play late at night. Poor teens. And tonight is his Sweetheart Dance (girls ask) so later DH and I get to go to some house and take pictures. I will spend the rest of the day on my new computer, trying to get it running, still. Wow is it complicated. Gotta run. Have a great day! |
Good morning! We have a winter wonderland here in NC! It is BEAUTIFUL! My day today will be full of sledding and snowman making with the boys! Both boys had basketball games scheduled but everything will be canceled due to the weather. I'm really glad and looking forward to a weekend at home without any obligations! But, I hope that we don't lose our power as the weather is calling for sleet and freezing rain!
Debbie- the moon has been beautiful here for a couple of days...some teachers I work with mentioned yesterday that can sure tell it's a full moon and snow was in the forecast based on the kids behavior LOL! Cottage- enjoy your puzzle that sounds like a lot of fun! Karen- have a great day and enjoy your new computer! Everyone else enjoy your Saturday! |
Good morning ladies!
Thanks for the Wolf Moon explanation Debbie, I didn't know that. :) Enjoy playing with your new fabric and new serger! Linda, enjoy your Saturday and your puzzle! Hopefully the clouds will part enough for you to get a good view of that wolf moon tonight. Good morning Karen, I'm sorry you had another night of not sleeping well. I always enjoy reading your posts...there are so many things I miss now that my kids are grown and living on their own but the early morning/late night chauffeuring is one thing I DON'T miss at all. lol Hope you get that new computer going today. Lisa - snowmen and sliding are things I DO miss now that my kids are grown up. I hope you and your boys have an awesome day playing in the snow! And I'll keep my fingers crossed that you won't loose your power. My arm is so much better this morning. Barely swollen at all and I slept much better last night, only woke myself up bumping it once or twice. It's still sore, but I am going to baby it today and tomorrow and I think I'll be in really good shape by the time I go back to school on Monday. Enjoy your Saturday everyone! |
 and :coffee: Yes, the moon is lovely. If it had not been so darned cold last night, I'd have watched it for a while when I let out to dogs.
Sorry to wave and run but I'm due at Claire's for 8:30 and still have to get the frozen fruit thawed and into the salad. After the meeting I'm off to town with all my quilt stuff which is yet to be packed. See y'all later. Enjoy your day. |
Hi, Cottage. I like days that aren't totally mapped out. If I get frustrated with my sewing, I might think about puzzling instead. Have a nice breakfast and a satisfying Saturday to you, too.
Karen, I hope you get through your morning and have a quiet afternoon. An early soccer game just seems unfair. I'll probably see you around later. Lisa, have fun sledding! It sounds like a perfect day! Heidi, glad to hear your bumps are feeling better. Congrats on your downward moving ticker! Ruth, enjoy your quilting day! |
Lexxiss, I noticed the moon hanging low on my way home from work last night! I meant to go home and show my BF, but I forgot.... I knew it seemed unusually bright. I loved it.
|
Good morning :coffee2: I couldn't drag myself out of bed this morning. It's just too darned cold :brr:
Debbie - Thanks for the explanation. I saw the moon on my way home last night and it is gorgeous. If I do any howling it will be on Facebook ;) Are you having fun with your new toy? Linda - Sounds like a perfect Saturday plan. I assume you mean Schmoodle is getting lots of snow because I know she is on Phase 1 and it's early in the morning for that to mean what I thought it meant ;) Karen - Hope you get a little extra sleep the rest of the weekend Lisa - A good friend of mine is getting the freezing rain and not so thrilled. Glad yours is snow and you plan to make the most of it. Heidi - Babying that arm sounds like just the right thing. If it's below zero here what is it there?! Makes me cold just thinking about it. Hope you have a relaxing day planned. Ruth - Can't believe you are out already! I am such a wimp. Sounds like a fun day ahead It's a quiet at home weekend again for us. I've got a few new recipes I want to try, beans to cook for the week, maybe a little bread. The more the oven runs the warmer the house will be :) All the usual chores too but I'm hoping to fit some real down time in again, maybe even a nap. It was a stressful week and I could do with some serious recharging. I do have to run some errands but will wait until it's double digits out there. For now it's a slow start to the day :) |
Hey guys! Hello to everyone. Ruth - are there behavioral changes associated with this particular moon? Everyone I know has been having trouble sleeping (hi Karen). It was actually a topic of discussion at yet another going away party yesterday (at which I turned down cake. Applause, please).
Today we have a 5 year olds bowling party and then my son and I will come home, pick up my husband, and head out to Costco. I was really good about shopping off my list yesterday in TJ's and the fruit market/regular supermarket. I'm actually very well within my food budget for the week. Just out of interest, does anyone feel comfortable sharing their food budget? I put aside $100 for a family of 3, but keep in mind I have a 5 year old and a husband who does heavy lifting all day, so I have to serve meat at every dinner and have to have some kid food (which is usually more expensive) around at all times. Plus I try to buy organic when possible. I do a big shopping on Fridays or Saturdays, and always spend the $100, but inevitably during the week have to stop for more items. |
Morning all! Sounds like everyone has their plans lined up for the day!
Not really sure what we are doing. My daughter spent the night in Baton Rouge last night after going out with friends and tonight she has to go to a party for her Dad's sister, but we plan on hitting the mall and going downtown looking for a particular Saints shirt she wants to take back to L.A. with her. Tomorrow, we are going to my favorite breakfast spot out on the lake and just hanging around the house. Had fun in N.O. yesterday. The weather was miserable, so we just ate at Mother's (sorry Chelby!) after a 45 minute wait outside with umbrellas and then visited with girls she used to work with. Took us 2 hours to get home with the rain and traffic and we barely made it home in time for her to get to Baton Rouge. That trip usually takes an hour from downtown New Orleans..it was a mess. Have a great weekend! |
Morning Everyone
Debbie Thanks for the lesson. When I worked in the hospital crazy things happened on Full Moons. Elderly patients that didn't walk would get up and walk. MMC- I think I spend too much on food. I spend about 100 a week to buy groceries, but then I always end up going back later in the week for soemthing else. Today I am cleaning house and hanging with hubby and kids. I do need to finish an essay for my economics class. Tonight hubby and I are going out with friends if I can get a sitter. We are going to an oyster bar. My plan is too eat some veggies and such before I go so I am not starving. THen I can get some kind of steamed seafood and a salad. oops you snuck in Cat while I was posting. Sorry it was a yucky day, but so glad you are getting to visit wiht dd. Heide Glad the arm is a bit better. I hope it is lots better after babying it all weekend. Morning Ruth, Linda, and Cindi have a great day. So the scale stayed the exact same this week. I think I have lost inches I didn't measure before, but I measured this morning. I am also very bloated and stopped up. So, I think I am not counting this weigh in and will wait tomorrow. |
Back from soccer. They lost:( But amazingly all the teens showed up that early and even a handful of parent spectators. Now the boys took themselves off to IHOP for breakfast.
Litar - Isn't snow the most fun with young kids to enjoy its wonder:) Heidi - Glad to hear you are healing. Does this mean no snowshoes for awhile? Hi Ruth. Waving back! Good morning Meghan. Maybe I am the only one who did not look at the moon - I will have to check it out tonight. Cyndi - Sounds yummy and cozy at your house:) Mmc - My husband has always sworn that more babies are born around full moons. He watched for them way back when I was expecting. Can't help with the food budget - I buy and DH tracks everything and I stick my head in the sand about finances. Cat - Enjoy the rest of DD's visit. Tammie - Your dinner plan sounds great. |
Good morning everyone! It's snowing here in the DC area this morning! I think I'll stay in and catch up on laundry and movies.
I think I might spend too much on food, because I'm reading everyone's food budget and just for myself, I tend spend over $100 per week! With that said, though, I often take my lunch, so when I factor that in, it doesn't seem like much. I also "try" not to go back to the store during the week if I can help it, because inevitably I find something on impulse. I hope that the sky clears up so we can see that beautiful moon tonight! Have a great day, all! |
Morning everyone,
I will be back later, DD1 wants to go to HS to look at Prom dresses and I need to leave in 15 minutes. |
Good Morning
Debbie - the moon was lovely last night. Will have to look out and see it tonight. Someone I know is due to have a baby any day now, I wonder if the full moon will help. Have fun with your serger. Ruth - a 1000 piece quilt, can't wait to see the pattern. Cottage - have fun working on your puzzle and a cappucino is in order too. Cyndi - not only does the cooking keep the house warm but the odor of cooking adds comfort. Heidi - baby that sore arm. Waisting - have fun on your new computer. Litar - you sure are busy with the boys. MMC - you are doing great on the food budget. Femme - I am so jealous, wish my daughter was closer. Tinker - movies for today are a great idea Pearlrose - hope your daughter finds her dream prom dress. Kara - congratulations on hubby's promotion and you are all beautiful me - only two crazy canucks would go to Buffalo in the middle of winter. Lots of snow there. We haven't been there for about two years and lots of changes. The mall, Galleria, has expanded and I was tempted to go to Cheesecake Factory, the name alone sounds so tempting but DH wanted ribs and since its his birthday on Monday he is allowed to have a 1/2 rack once a year so we went to Famous Dave. I had a salad with dressing on the side but did sneak in a few fries. Tomorrow is birthday supper so I will be doing alot of ahead cooking today. take care Sophie |
Morning all.
Just checking in before I bog myself down with homework. Ugh. Snowing here, up to 5 inches. I've lived here for 11 years and never has there been this much snow in a season! I will check back later. Happy Saturday. Stay warm! |
Happy Weekend, Friends!
We've been clouded in, so we can't see the Wolf moon. Hopefully, it will clear up tonight. I'd be glad to howl at the moon. :D Cat, I'm jealous! Mothers! SO not SB friendly, but delicious! (At least what I want.) We went to Morgan's pageant last night. She didn't win, but was beautiful. There was so much sequin, my retinas are burned. Jeff and I have been out splitting wood this morning. That has to qualify as a workout! Hard work! I've lost 1 pound since Thursday. Yay me! Yay for motivation! |
Joining in late, I slept like a babe. My 10yr old sister is outside in the snow with friends. I'm just taking it easy today.
|
Hey chicks, I got my grocery shopping done first thing this morning before the snow. It has been coming down pretty good since about 11AM, and since it's so cold on the ground it started piling up right away. I think we've got about 4 - 5 inches now, already more than predicted, but not as much as Jenn I bet, and farther South they are really getting it! I decided against trying to get the kids out to the farm. I only have the Prius to drive now and haven't had it long enough to know how it handles in bad weather. I'm used to having a manual transmission to drive in the snow. So I've just been doing some laundry and straightening up and put something in the crock pot for dinner. I'm snuggled up on the couch now with the kitties watching The Haunting and sipping tea. I think I'll do some work on the office the rest of the day, maybe a hot bath and a movie with the kids before bed tonight. Nice, snuggly day!
To Mmc, I spend about $100/week for a family of 4 and that includes some cleaning supplies and toiletries, but not milk. We get milk from the dairy and it's another $10/wk. We eat out about twice/month, lunches are at home/packed, and I cook most nights. In the summer I also spend about $10/wk at the farmer's market. The first half of this movie was okay, but the end of it is wacky! It's based on one of my favorite books but they added all kinds of dumb stuff at the end, boo. |
Schmoodle -- I think we have 5. I am right outside of DC (like 20 minutes) but I have been upstairs in my computer room locked in doing homework so I have no clue! Last I knew we were only getting 5 inches!
|
Jenn and Schmoodle, we weren't supposed to get anything at all, but we have about 2" on the ground and it's still coming down.
|
WE have snow -- a light dusting. We aren't supposed to have any! Brrrr!
|
Back again,
Debbie I had to look out the window to see if I could see the moon, it is bright and beautiful and hanging low in the sky. DD1 didn't find any dress that caught her eye, so we went to Walmart to get storage containers and a bookcase and I have spent the rest of my day in their room organizing it. I was so tired of looking in there and stuff was all over the floor. Hopefully I made it easier for DD2 to be able to pick up her toys after she is done playing with them. I took 2 bags of garabage out of there and 1 bag for the garage sale. Still have a couple more things to finish up in their room but for the most part its done. Cottage, Jenn and Schmoodle stay safe in the snow. Hope everyone else is finishing their day nicely. Tomorrow I am taking DS to his scholarship interview in the next town over. |
Just a quick good night to everyone and especially those who came after me today:)
Tinkin and Jenn - I feel your pain. I was in DC for a long weekend during the blizzard before Christmas. But it was fun to be a tourist in the snow, even if most things closed. We have had a record-breaking year here too. Hope you are feeling better today Jenn. Pearl - I just saw the most amazing dresses and shoes on the girls going to Sweetheart Dance tonight. Low and short dresses, high and open shoes. Brrr. Hello Sophie. I avoid the Cheesecake Factory when OP - I love their dark bread too much! Happy birthday to DH:) Chelby - Double yay! FoodO - glad you had a good sleep. Hope your day was relaxing. Schmoodle - Sounds like a great way to spend a snowy day. Cottage - I bet that means my DS in PA got snow too! We had about an inch here since yesterday. Catch you all tomorrow! |
Our church and Sunday School are cancelled this morning because of road conditions being bad and I need to send out an e-mail so everyone knows, but because of chapel policy I can't send it out until it's official at 8:00, so I have 16 minutes to kill this morning. Time for personals!
Debbie, thanks for the explanation about the wolf moon. That is so interesting! It was a beautiful wolf moon here last night - clear skies (amazing for winter in Germany!) and bright, bright moon! Linda, your puzzle sounds fun! It looks like we'll be stuck inside today so maybe we'll start one, too. The kids are amazing at puzzles and it would be a fun family activity! Karen, it sounds like a busy day for you! I hope your son's game went well and that you got some good pictures before the dance! Lisa, I hope you enjoyed your day of no obligations. It's so freeing! Heidi, I'm so glad to hear that your arm is feeling better! That is fantastic! Ruth, I hope you had a productive quilting day! Meghan, welcome to the board! Cyndi, I like your idea of a slow start to the day. I hope you had a nice, relaxing day at home to recharge! Mmckellen, I spend about $250 a month on food for our family of five. That includes Tom's lunches (he buys food at the commissary and cooks it at work with friends most days and goes out to lunch two to three times a month). I don't do much couponing because I am terribly brand-loyal, mostly because of ingredients. I will not buy something that is on sale if it has ingredients that I refuse to eat. Cat, it sounds like you are having a wonderful time with your daughter! What a blessing! Tammie, that is crazy about your hospital story! Why are you taking an economics class? Can't be for the fun of it! Tinkin, what movies did you watch? Rose, hope you had fun prom dress shopping! Just read your second post. Sorry it was a bust! I got my favorite prom dress at David's Bridal. It was on the sale rack! Three minutes until I have to send my e-mail and I can go back to bed! Sophie, thanks for the compliments! It sounds like you had a nice birthday trip for your husband. I have never been to the Cheesecake Factory, but you're right that it sounds tempting! Cheesecake is my kryptonite! Jenn, hope the homework went quickly! Michelle, yay for a lost pound! Okie, glad you could sleep in! Schmoodle, I'm glad you had a nice snuggly day! I hate when movies change books' stories around. That annoys me. Time to send my e-mails. ... Done. We had a really fun day yesterday! Connor had a basketball game in the morning and it was just a blast to be there cheering him on. I must confess that I thought all the chauffeuring and cheering of little ones was going to be my least favorite part of parenting, but I so love it! This is his first year playing and the kids are doing such a great job coming together as a team and getting an idea of the rules of the game. What fun! After that, we came home to get the house tidied because we had friends over in the afternoon for a game day. It was such a blast! We played DVD Scene It and had so much fun! Tom made some hummus and I cut up a bunch of veggies, so it was easy to stay on plan. I made pizza for dinner - two with wholewheat crust and two with regular white flour crust (because I didn't know how the whole wheat crust would come out as it was my first time modifying the recipe). I had grand plans to stay safe with my whole wheat crust pizza slices, but I indulged in the regular crust varieties as well. And then I had chocolate after everyone left and then a half cup of ice cream. Arg. I've been frustrated because my weight is stuck and I feel like all this exercise and eating on plan isn't doing anything. But this morning I woke up and feel bloated and my scale is still stuck AND now I have a belly ache and a headache. I'd rather have the scale stuck without being bloated and having my belly and head hurt, thank you. Back to on-plan eating today!!! Guess I get to rest a bit before getting up now. That's new! We don't have a lot of snow on the ground, but it's all ice under the inch or so that's there, so I don't think we'll be venturing out today. |
The moon is associated with madness and all that because it appears at night and u don't have to be versed in theology to know what that's all about.
|
It's Sunday, the last day in Jan. I only cheated once on this diet and why, because I didn't PLAN! U must have a plan to succeed in life. Things don't always go according to plan, so ADJUST. I need to attend Church today. I haven't been in a while and I miss it. Although I watch EWTN regularly, it's not the same as being in God's domain. I'm excited about my life in general. I'm pissed off about things that happened in my past but who isn't, ya know.
|
Okie, I think you hit the nail on the head with your reasoning about planning! What kind of church do you attend? And why are you up at 4:00 a.m.???
|
lol T/K, I attend St. Mark's Catholic Church. I sleep during the day, party with God at night. I'll have to change all this when I start working again. Anyone wanna join me for a three day fast for financial security. The more people praying, the better. On my facebook, I listed it as a cause.
Okiemute "Okie" Esiekpe |
Your name is just beautiful! Does it have a special meaning?
|
It does Kara. It means there's time for everything.
|
Good morning, OK. I won't join you on a fast but wish everyone financial security.
My yesterday was busy but great. I just loved spending the whole afternoon quilting with no phone or dogs to deal with. I'm going to do a few things around the house and then take off for today's marathon session. Claire is coming around noon to let the dogs out and give the poor neglected creatures a bit of love. They really do miss me and whimper for petting when I get home. Tonight I'll spend some time giving tummy rubs while we watch TV. I wish you a good Sunday and tummy rubs if you need them! ;) |
Thanks for the tummy rubs, Ruth! No one has rubbed my tummy since Avery was born. :) Enjoy your day of quilting!
Okie, thanks for the explanation. That is a special meaning! |
Thanks Kara. I need u to pray for me! I am so angry with my enemies! Frankly, **** is too good a place for them IMHO. I'm no saint but I've always tried my best to be decent.
|
Good morning Kara. Enjoy that stuff now while the kids are young... eventually they drive themselves (which is actually very nice but nerve wracking) and they will not allow you to cheer. Amazing how food can really impact how we feel!
FoodO - You are up all night with the moon! Ruth - Isn't it nice to be greeted by furry friends:) I'll trade my tummy rub for a back rub! I literal spent all day yesterday on the darn computer stuff, except for DS's activities. Speaking of... he will show up some time this morning, I hope, after an overnight, after the after-party, after the dance, after the dinner... He will be tired! Basketball for him today. More computer for me. Not fun yet... but getting there. I can't believe the month is over!!! |
Happy last day of January! :hat: :woo:
Good morning Okie, Kara, Ruth, Karen! I wsh everyone financial security, but I'm passing on the fasting. With all the running around I have to do, I need food for fuel. ;) It's pretty out this morning, the sun is just coming out and making the snow sparkle. They're saying the roads are in bad shape, so I guess we'll wait til later to venture out. Jake wants to go to AC Moore or JoAnn's Crafts for a project, and I want to stop in to see my parents this morning. Monica and Carley are coming out to spend the day with us after church, so all my grandkids except Caitlyn will be here today. Caite is in Bar Harbor for the week. I have to run back to the supermarket, too. I'm making a turkey breast for dinner and need potatoes for mashed potatoes. I'll be enjoying my black bean soup while everyone else is having their turkey dinner. Gotta run for now, Jake is calling me! |
Good morning ladies!
You've been busy already - but I like reading your plans for the day so I guess checking in later isn't all bad. ;) Lots of slippery roads, eh? Be careful everyone. Linda, Caite sure picked a cold week to head up to Bar Harbor! It's -10 at my house right now. It's warmer on the coast of course, but I'm thinking the map they just showed on the local news said 1 degree for Bar Harbor..... At least she avoided the snow storm. I slept soooo well last night. :) Babying my arm yesterday made a huge difference. I didn't wake up once and it feels so much better this morning. I was able to walk on the treadmill again yesterday, too. The jostling and swinging didn't feel great, so I did 2 short sessions, but I was able to do it. I'm well on the path to 'good as new again'. Thanks again for all of your prayers, good thoughts and well wishes. I'm planning another easy day today. We had a really good turn out for Sunday School last week so I'm picking up donuts on the way this morning. It's a stretch for some of the teens to drag themselves out of bed early on Sunday mornings, lol. I like to surprise them with a little treat every now and then. Donuts are a good choice because they're not a favorite of mine. ;) Other than church all I've got on my schedule for today is a little meal planning and lesson planning. And plenty of hot tea. It's even cold in the house this morning.... brrrrr Enjoy your Sunday friends! |
Good morning :coffee2: I managed to sleep in again, in spite of the cats' attempts to get me out of bed ;)
Kara - Sorry about the weather but how nice to get a little found time. The driving does come sooner than you are ready and is both easier and way more stressful. Okie - What a great name. Was it given or chosen? Ruth - Hope you get some breathing time today. Karen - How's that computer coming along? I know I'm going to need a new computer in the not too distant future and kind of dread it. I finally have this one set up exactly the way I want and I'll have to start over. Sadly new ones are so cheap it's often not worth having my tech guy fix an old one. Hope your computer is more fun today! Cottage - The sun is out here too. We completely missed the snow for once. My brother lives in VA Beach and the girls were having a great time playing in the snow. It was the first time for the 5 year old. What did you think of that soup? Mmc - It's hard to say exactly how much we spend on food for the two adults and 2 cats. A lot of our stew/soup veggies come from my dehydrated stock. I also buy in bulk whenever I find a good sale. For example yesterday I found urad dal for $1.39/2 lbs. Since I've only ever seen it at Indian grocers I bought 6 bags. Of course now I'm looking for recipes ;) Most of my dried beans, brown rice, bread flours and teas have come from those finds ( I also bought 12 boxes of Candy Cane Lane tea). We do spend a lot on things like organic, fair trade, shade grown coffee, fresh produce and grain free cat food though. We are lucky because we can choose to be really picky and buy organic whenever we can, and local or as close to local as possible. I don't think it averages out to more than $500 most months. We almost never eat out, other than take out from the Coop Deli so that helps. Sorry, way more complicated than it needed to be ;) Heidi - I'm so glad that your arm is doing better and you slept through the night. Sleep helps everything. My DD and friends are at Attitash this weekend :brr: I sure hope she's spending lots of time in front of the fire with a warm drink. Not much on tap around here today. More cooking, some serious cleaning, work on the resume and some playing with the Wii. I don't need to go out for anything and I don't think I will. DW has the benefit for the local warming shelter next weekend so we will be pretty busy and probably have house guests. Might as well enjoy the quiet weekend :) |
Okiemute is my given name. Okie is a nickname given to me by my friend Emily Smolka. Em is getting married soon. I hope to have lost enough weight for her wedding in September.
