Default What is the least bad chinese food?

Dh is picking up chinese on his way home from getting work supplies at Home Depot. Before SB I would have gotten General tso's chicken (yummy) and fried rice and an eggroll. So in an attempt to be better but will probably still be cheating some I was gonna get beef & broccoli and skip the rice and maybe eat an eggroll. So what is the least evil thing to eat from a chinese place?

I think hot and sour soup or egg drop soup, plain rice on the side and a mixed veggie entree or shrimp that is not fried. NOT General Tso's or Sweet and Sour anything.

Steamed vegetables with sauce on the side (then what's the point, right?). Happy Family (stir-fried chicken, shrimp, sometimes some other meat, broccoli, other vegetables) isn't too terrible if they go light on the sauce and the stir-fry oil.

It's true you should be able to get something steamed, but that might not do it for you. There is often a Buddha's Delight option that is relatively healthy. Chinese restaurants are often very helpful and asking about sweetened sauces might help. I think garlic sauces are often not loaded with sugar. I'm spoiled, we can get brown rice with our Chinese food around here. Stay away from the sweet sauces and deep fried entrees and try for combinations heavy on veggies (for example garlic string beans and shrimp). Have some egg drop soup first so you aren't so hungry and drink lots and lots of water because it's loaded with salt.

I get teriyaki beef sticks, and have a piece of chicken and all the red and green peppers from my husband's garlic chicken. No rice, lo mein or any breaded fried stuff. I did this even before I went back on a strict SBD.
I figure if I stick to meat and veggies and make sure it is not drenched in sauce, I am ok for 1 night every couple of months, which is about how often we get chinese.

It's important to keep in mind that almost all sauces are fat, sodium, sugar and cornstarch laden in Chinese foods (in America, anyway!).

One of the Chinese restaurants here will make almost any dish "weight-watcher's style", meaning they won't add sugar or thicken the sauce. But it's hard to find a place that serves brown rice. I usually get steamed broccoli with shrimp or bean curd, or the Kung Pao shrimp made ww-style, and avoid the rice.

I giggled when I read the title... least bad- you got that right- seems its so hard to find a healthy option at any of them that taste good... but around here they will steam veggies and sauce on the side as well... CYndi you are lucky- can't find brown rice here either! I love going to PFChangs bc they have better healthy options for me! and now they have a gluten free menu ;0)

Sadly, I avoid in when dieting. But on the rare occasions, I get brown rice, lettuce wraps, and nothing fried or breaded. No lo mein! I love it and would eat it for breakfast the next day even. We have a place near us that is healthier chinese than most - but expensive.

We ordered Chinese last week and I had the "healthy option" chicken and vegetables -- steamed, no sauce. It came with sauce on the side and I LOVE duck sauce but I had a bottle of low sugar teriyaki sauce and while not totally OP, I used that. It's spicy, I can use a teaspoon per serving and feel like I am getting something good and it doesn't set off cravings.

Or use lite soy sauce with ginger and wasabi mixed in!
