FINALLY FRIDAY! Chick chat

Good Morning everyone. I hope all is well with you.

So what do you do when you really enjoy your job and everyone at the company, but have a hard time with the immediate boss who is so overbearing that she is CONSTANTLY trying to prioritize you and micromanage you, and when something else gets neglected its "your" fault? Yesterday, she told me twice to do something (wasn't going to do it the way she wanted because I knew it was a waste of time), I did it, and several hours later found it was a simple thing as a formula and had she let me sit there for five minutes looking it over I would of found it. When we found it she was angry and said "how much time did you waste on this?" I wanted SO bad to tell her "just doing as you demanded". But held my tongue.

Thursday morning I said good morning to a coworker, who asked how my evening was, I answered "productive" and started telling her my son was home for the evening, small talk as we unloaded our belongings, purses, coats etc. The boss called me into her office and told me no small talk! I couldn't believe it. I just looked at her blankly. Here she is complaining that my predecessor was "not a team player", well, how the **** am I suppose to be a team player if she's constantly telling me not to be! :?:
I found out that everyone liked Jen, my predecessor, except Ann.
with her hitting me upside the head, not trusting me to do my job, constantly telling me how to do everything, I know why this chair keeps getting emptied!

I'm trying to decide if it's worth sticking out. With the economy the way it is... Again, I love what I do! I love the company! the people! I asked my coworker yesterday, who NEVER has a negative thing to say about anyone, if it's just me or if Ann is this way with everyone in that comes into my position, my coworker said "it's not you, she's like that with all of them".

She's set up two weekly meetings between the two of us... one is today. I just might mention to her she has to be more trusting.

What makes matters worse, is she's the one training me for the job (*still a lot I haven't been shown), there's a LOT to this desk. And when she's training you she really doesn't know who to "teach" or explain things very well, I'm learning I have to ask questions to get to know more of what it is I'm working on.

0))_______

Sorry for that vent.... I truly am in a good mood despite Ann and the pains I'm having... and a cooped up puppy with extra energy!

How are you all? Pull up a chair for some "Jamaican Me Crazy" coffee! (it's awesome!)

cottagebythesea 01-16-2009 06:28 AM

I'll join you with my coffee, Loriann! Jake made a pot of good old Maxwell House this morning, and it's pretty good. :coffee: I find it incredible that your boss actually hit you! That's assault, Loriann! If you let her get away with it, who knows what she'll do next time? I'd report it if I were you.

I'm enjoying the fact that it's Friday today! I had yesterday morning off, and took the opportunity to clean the house, so the weekend looks free. :) I have the girls busy working on their valentine cards already, they're working on them a few at a time so they can make each one a work of art. ;) Last year they made their cards right before Valentine's Day, and it was frustrating for Maggie to do it all at once. I think starting them now will keep it a fun job for them both.

What's everyone doing today? Anyone have plans for the weekend?

Ruthxxx 01-16-2009 06:51 AM

Good morning. I am trying very hard not to gripe about the cold but to be thankful for my nice warm house!

Loriann, I would definitely report that physical abuse and would also start looking for another job. Nobody should have to put up with that crap!

Cottage, I bet the girls will make great V-Day cards! I wish I could pass you my collection of paper doilies and basket of ribbons and lace.

I am planning another snuggled in day. My darling neighbour filled my woodbox to the brim yesterday afternoon so I don't need to venture out. The mail can wait until tomorrow when I have to go out to a quilting class anyhow. This cold is incredible but I am trying not to think about it too much.

Hope your day is safe and warm.

TwynnB 01-16-2009 07:01 AM

Good morning chicks!

Lori - I think I'd start looking. In the meantime, I'm not sure I'd be so subtle as to tell her "to be more trusting". I don't know if she's one of those if you confront her, she'll back off (or is she the type to fire you if you confront her?). Good luck with that!

Cottage - Good for you for cleaning! Maybe you'll inspire me...and maybe not :D.

Ruth - I think staying at home sounds like a LOVELY idea. Enjoy!!

Me - It's my three day weekend! Not much going on. DS has a two hour delay...I'm going to try and jump on the treadmill after they get up (it's right near their rooms, and I play the tv really loud!). After that...I'm supposed to meet a friend to go shopping (for children's clothes! those darned little things grow like weeds!) and lunch.

The seller accepted the offer on the house! But now, it goes to the bank. Found out it supposed to go into foreclosure at the end of March, so this would work perfect to avoid that. I'm most nervous about the inspection, since the house is "as is" (since it's a bankruptcy case).....

Have a great day ladies! Keep warm!

(OH!! Matt gave me that recipe for the flourless cake...I have to find it and post it....I think I'd consider it soft porn...not much sugar, but VERY fattening!!)

CyndiM 01-16-2009 07:27 AM

Good morning Chicks :coffee2: I'm in Vermont so I know i don't need to mention the obvious and I'm trying really hard not to think about it.

Lori- This woman has serious issues. Sounds like my old boss when I lived near buffalo. I know the market it tight but she can't hit you. What's her supervisor like? Is she/he someone you could talk to? They have to know there's a reason this position is always turning over. Good luck

Cottage - I love hearing about all the projects you come up with :) If you were nearby I would hire you to train child care providers.

Ruth - Enjoy your warmth and stay cozy. Bet the doggage will be happy to have the company.

Twynn - Wow, things are moving with the house! Keeping my fingers :crossed: for you. Enjoy your grown up day off :)

I'm probably working at home in the afternoon today. Other than that not much going on. I had an interesting consult with a naturopath yesterday. I'm looking for some diet based options to control inflammation and my insurance covers the consult so am giving it a try.

Hope everyone is either where it's warm or bundled up!

Chelby29 01-16-2009 08:48 AM

Good Morning from 13* Alabama. I know, I know, that's spring for you Northern Chicks. :)

Loriann -- I would HATE that boss! Going to a superior is a great idea. Learn her job. Maybe you can have it.

TwynnB -- My hubby is considering pulling what's left of his spiraling 401K and investing in a rental property. It has to be a better investment.

Me -- My ph2 started Sunday. I've added an apple a couple days, a WW wrap one day, and a beautiful bowl of hot & sour soup for dinner last night (I'm sure it had cornstarch as a thickener). Anyway, I was up one pound yesterday and a 1/2 pound today. I can eat donuts and gain weight! DH says my ovaries are to blame. Could be. Could also be my bowels are 'broken'. (Taking softeners) Any suggestions?

sophie 01-16-2009 09:30 AM

Good morning,
Loriann - sometimes you can't teach an old dog new tricks. She sounds like a control freak.
Cottage - those girls are so luck to have you.
Ruth - nice to have good neighbours and it is cold here too but we are Canadian, eh.
Tywnn - enjoy your days off and good luck on the house.
Cyndi - Have a good day working at home. Is Vermont busy with skiers this year. I grew up on Montreal and Vermont use to be so close.
Chelby - Good luck on Phase 2, there are more experienced SB here that can answer your question.

Today will be cleaning day and making soup for lunch. DH really like split pea soup. My daughter sent us a video of our grandson so that will be watched several times today. I miss him so much but then I have to remember that my children grew up away from their grandparents. As the saying goes what goes around comes around. We are planning to drive west in May.
take care
sophie

cottagebythesea 01-16-2009 09:39 AM

Chelby, SF Metamucil should help you stay "regular". Also, you might want to try only adding in that apple for an entire week, then the next week try adding a grain with it for the whole week. Adding in too many new things in a week's time may cause a temporary gain and cravings to stir up.

Cyndi, if I'm ever looking for another job, I'll take you up on it! :D

Twynne, best wishes on the house proceeding! It sounds like you jumped on it just in time!

Ruth, stay warm by your fire today! We have a huge box full of snippets of lace, trims, buttons, and other assorted whatnots that we use for our crafting. If anyone ever loses something, most likely they can find it in the "imagination box." ;)

Good morning, Sophie! Pea soup sounds like a nice way to warm your insides on a day like today! I'm really fortunate to have my grandchildren nearby, and it's hard to get used to having my oldest away at college now. I have to keep reminding myself that my own children grew up without their grandparents, too. I can only imagine how hard that must have been for them.

hmacneil6 01-16-2009 09:41 AM

Good morning ladies!!! Happy Friday!!!!!

Loriann - You need to go to your HR personand tell them what's going on. If she physically hit you, they NEED to know. It sounds like you're being harassed, and it needs to stop. You cannot be fired for complaining about harassment. Good luck with everything!!!!

Cottage - Hope you have fun with the girls making Valentines today. Sounds like fun!

Ruth -Stay warm out there!!!

Twynn - Good luck on the house....we're all praying for you!!!!

Cyndi - Hope things go well with the neuropath. Being able to take care of things with diet and exercise is the best!!!!

Chelby - Stick with it.....and if the daily weighing starts to bother you, go to weighing weekly.

Me - Well, yesterday was interesting. When I left for work I couldn't find my keys....so down to the car (not in there), empty my purse (not in there), search the house, I can't find them anywhere!!! It then occurs to me that maybe my DH took them. Can I call him....NO.....he left his phone on the counter charging. Will he be in the office to call.....NO.....he's at a conference!!!!! So I resolve that I'll be home for the day, call work, and start working on cleaning the house. An hour later I get a phone call from DH "I'm an idiot..." Yes you are, get home and give me my keys. I made it into work around 10:45. Fortunately my boss totally understands and just laughed. THEN....late last night when I was making the layered veggie gratin I'm taking tonight to friends, I sliced my finger open on the mandolin. I still hurts and was bleeding when I took the bandage off this morning. I'm really hoping that Friday is better!!!!!
Have a great day ladies!!! BLESSINGS!!!!!

I just wanted to say you all are great! Thank you!

TwynnB 01-16-2009 09:51 AM

Heather - aren't those mandolins horrid?!?!? I did that once, slicing potatoes (before SBD!). It was a big enough slice of my finger I had to find it and pull it out of the potatoes :O. Mine took (I think) 2 days to stop bleeding. I've barely touched a mandolin since!

Kim_Star060404 01-16-2009 10:06 AM

Lori:  I agree with everyone here; start looking for a new job. I would also file a report with HR about the hitting situation. At the very least, there would be an inquiry, which may put her in her place a bit. Also, I wouldn't pander to her at all. Just do what she says so that you can show you were doing your best to appease her. It'll be tough, but you need to show HR that you're doing your job in spite of her treatment of you.

Cottage: Too cute! I love that the girls are starting on the Valentines early! I've been searching ebay for some vintage ones to mail and decorate with. Enjoy your day and your Maxwell house; it's Folger's Classic Roast for me today!

Ruth: You stay warm!!! Thank goodness for your kind neighbor. Please thank him for us SBers at 3FatChicks for keeping our Ruth toasty!!!

Twynn: Congrats on the offer being accepted! I hope things progress smoothly with the inspection and the bank.

Cyndi: Hope you have a nice, warm day inside! I'm curious as to what foods the naturopath suggested...

Chelby: Sorry about the "plumbing" issues. Hope they "clear out" soon! :D

Sophie: It must be hard to be away from the grandkids, but it's wonderful that your daughter sent you a video of your grandson! Enjoy watching him!!

Hmac: Sounds like you had a really rough day yesterday. I hope things are already looking up for you this morning!

Gonna: Hope you're having a nice day. Prayers still going up!

Me: Not much here, as usual. ;) Weigh-in this morning was 195 again, which is fine with me. I'm just so happy that I've been under 200 for two weeks straight!! :carrot: DH and I are tweaking the plan a bit. Just watching portions a bit closer and eating according to my workouts. (More cals on walking/sprinting/circuit training days and less on aerobics/trampoline days.) Still, I'm 4 lbs. lighter than I was on Jan. 1, so that's still a great thing!

Work today is just finding answers to the next section on our review for our big exam. Yesterday, when we went over the first section, was okay, but we have a long way to go. Tonight I'm planning on working on my blog a bit and maybe watching a movie with DH, depending what's on PPV.

Well, off to work!! Hope everyone to come has a nice, warm-as-possible day!

Schmoodle 01-16-2009 10:28 AM

Oh my gosh chicks I just typed a huge post and lost it to cyberspace!
Okay, here we go again, shorter version!
Today should be quiet, just work and going to my mom's later for pizza. AND a three day weekend to look forward to. Since we are near DC, most of my govt customers are off Tuesday too, or working from home, so should be a quiet day too. Almost like a 4-day weekend, yipee! On the other hand, the kids are off school Mon - Wed. Boo.

I pulled out a lot of VHS tapes to get rid of. Part of my 2009 decluttering effort. Anyone know if there is any use for them or if they can be recycled?

Ruth and Cyndi, stay warm and cozy!
LoriAnn, I agree there must be an alternative to quitting or putting up with the abusive environment. I hope you can work that situation out.
cottage, you are really on the ball. Valentine's Day! I can't believe it's time to think about that already!!! I've still got Christmas decorations to take up to the attic. At least they are boxed up.
Heather, those mandolins must be dangerous. Clutzy as I am, good thing I don't have one. Hope today goes more smoothly.
Twynn, I've got my fingers crossed that all goes smoothly with the house. Just make sure you get a good inspection done.
Chelby, that soup can be pretty salty, maybe that is the reason. Be patient, if you are following plan, the scale will come around.
Congratulations on the 4 lbs Kim, and enjoy onederland!
 Gonna, I am thinking of you.
sophie, pea soup is a great idea. I've got a bag of dried peas and some leftover ham, I think I'll throw on a pot myself. Enjoy your soup and your video.

rdw1 01-16-2009 11:28 AM

Happy Friday chics- I will be even happier on Saturday as I have to work tomorrow then hit my 3 day weekend ;) Schools are closed here because of the cold- and I am surely laughing with the northerners on this one!!! lol Its 13 here but feels like 4. I know as I was walking into work yesterday the wind just cut right through me! anywho, on to personals... I just know everyone wanted to be updated on my weather ;)! haha... well, its whats on my mind this chilly day!

Laurie- I am almost with everyone else on going above her... however, seems everyone well, almost everyone who went to hr to complain ended up canned, actually they all "moved on to bigger and better things" so the bosses say... I don't know how that is possible when they don't have other jobs lined up but who knows... so feel it out and if it seems like it will help DO IT! You don't deserve to be treated that way!!!!

Cottage, I love getting homemade cards what a great idea!:)

Ruth- Sounds like you have a lovely neighbor! Enjoy your snuggle day in!

Twynn- can't wait to see the flourless cake recipe! One of these days I am going to give another shot at some bean pumpkin cake concotion- the first one was a bust!:p

Cyndi- I am with everyone else, hope the "natural" stuff works for you!:carrot:

Chelby- Put that darned scale away for a week ;) but I am in agreeance to try adding 1 thing per week... when I transition thats what I am going to do this time... you will be able to hear your body more clearly that way...

Sophie- enjoy your soup and video :)

Heather- My dh did that to me once... and he always keeps his keys in his pocket so who knows why the heck he took mine~! frustrating! Well, here's to today being a better day and your finger stopping bleeding soon :^:

Kim- Thanks for your lovely compliment:D... I can't wait to get back under 200 again. I am sabotaging sabotaging sabotaging! sounds like you and your dh are great OP together! I will have to check out your blog again later!

Schmoodle- enjoy time with your mom! and your long weekend!(with the kiddos-hehe):D

As for me, I just ate breakfast, decided not to go for the coffee this morning, just water then hitting the gym. After that I am going to work on going through all my clothes... a task that I have not wanted to do and put off for way way way too long... yikes. chili is sounding awfully good for lunch. I made a BIG pot of Italian soup last night that I will have to post somewhat of a recipe for... so hearty and filling!

Barb0522 01-16-2009 11:51 AM

Brian has no school today since it is a records day. Guess the teachers work and the kids get a 4 day weekend. So I'm working from home today. I like that because I can get laundry done. I'm not sure yet if Don and I are going to eat out tonight after Brian leaves for his campout. It depends on whether he has to work. If we don't go out, I might try to get out to the gym. I hate going when it is cold but I should take advantage of the opportunity.

I thought my sprinklers were turned to rain mode and found out the power outage last week turned off rain mode. My walkway is a solid sheet of ice. I'll just have to be careful if it hasn't melted when the mail comes. :(

KO 01-16-2009 12:49 PM

KO- we are definitely on the same page today! I was thinking the exact same thing!!!

fl_mom 01-16-2009 03:43 PM

Don't have time to read but I want to keep up with my goal of posting every day. I just got the baby to sleep and I am leaving ALL 4 kids with DH to run out for diapers! I haven't been out by myself in ummm, 9mths or so.

Besides that, DH asked me how much I have lost because he said he can see a difference already. (9lbs since Tues btw)

:carrot::carrot:

KO 01-16-2009 04:49 PM

Fl Mom Yay!
Rdw I'm craving it we used to have one here but its gone!

rdw1 01-16-2009 05:16 PM

Where I used to live in NC they had one called Crazy fire, it was sooo yummy... since moving back I haven't been able to find one but I just learned there are two here!!! about 30 minutes to get to either one but I am going to have to check it out soon! Should be super easy to stay on plan there! We have been going to hibachi restaurants a while now and like them but to be vegetarian their meals are pricey considering I am not buying any meat- 13 bucks for a plate of veggies?! So glad I found genghis grill! Hoping one comes your way soon ;)

Loriann7 01-16-2009 06:01 PM

Hi all... can you believe I'm taking a break to log in tonight?11!!!!!

Ann apologized for her behavior yesterday! But we still have to iron some things out. She has stated several times that whoever is in this position should not start feeling confidant or comfortable until at least six months in, I'm not even into my third month yet. However, we did talk a little, and I told her she needed to back off a bit and trust me to do what I need to get done, and if she needs to ask if I accomplished something to please send an email as it is interrupting my work.

And to all those that said to go to HR? That would be ... ME! Yup, I'm a full charge bookkeeper slash human resource director, and Ann is the controller (fitting title don't ya think?) She's been with the company for 8 years, one would think the owners would get a clue that she's the reason people leave this position... but she IS good at her job, and I know I have and can learn a lot from her... I just need to figure out how to calm her down a bit and stop giving me the brunt of her frustration!

Now, on to personals!

rdw1 01-16-2009 06:08 PM

Quote:

And to all those that said to go to HR? That would be ... ME!
tee hee... too funny, controller seems to fit her as well... Hopefully your chat with her will be taken to heart and she will back off! Glad there is a light at the end of the tunnel lol even if your boss feels its 3 months away?! Maybe just maybe not everyone learns at the same pace?!?!?! lol

Loriann7 01-16-2009 06:25 PM

Cottage - Great Idea to keep the girls interested in the cards, a few at a time will help them to not feel rushed and do a better job!

Ruth - Hope you enjoyed your day of rest!

Contrats Twynn on the acceptance of the house! Hope it holds up with little to no fixings!

Cyndi, a friend of mine swears by naturo... or whatever they are called! Good luck with it!

Hi Chelby, nice to meet you. I only have to set eyes on a donut and my waist expands! :O

Awe Sophie! Grandkids are the best, and families are meant to stick together! Hope you can see your grand babies more than you are expecting to!

Heather! Funny story about the keys. I once had friends over that live an hour and a half away. AT the time they didn't have cell phones. Well, when they got home they realized he (the father/husband) had pocketed my work/car/house keys! Luckily I had a spare car key, my son had house key and my boss had keys to my office (different company than now). I didn't get those keys back for a few days! Randy doesn't leave here till I know I have my keys!

Hi Gonnabe!

Kim, congrats on the weightloss! and it sounds like a plan to keep the diet with the exercise regime! Nice job!

Schmoodle! Your local library will be glad to take them! some of us who live in the 80s still live by VHS, not DVD! ;)

RDW! Your right, Chili is sounding awefully good right now! and it's colder here than TN! Welcome to winter! :)

Barb, Hope you got to go out to eat with "Don?" ;)

KO, enjoy your laptop! HOpe you got everything accomplished you set out to do!

Me4life: HOpe you enjoyed your crablegs! Happy Birthday to DD!

Nice to meet you FL_mom!

Me: Well, I signed up for a different plan with Frontier (phone service) and they are sending me a FREE laptop! OK, so it will cost me 45 for shipping and I have to keep the service for two years! Thats ok, I do that anyway! ;)

Let's see, I need to start training Cody, with all my pains and goings on, I've neglected the poor boy! And with the COLD weather and the pain they both are going stir crazy!

OK, off to play some pinochle.. I live such an exciting life! ;)

CyndiM 01-16-2009 08:28 PM

Hey all- just wanted to stop in for a quick hello :)

Lori - So glad to hear there's been a little movement and you are letting her know she needs to back off. Any plans for your weekend?

Rikki that soup looks great. Can't wait to try it! Don't you love the notbeef cubes?

Schmoodle - We've given away lots of VHS tapes on freecycle. We just offer them up in boxes "take all" and it seems to work.

Kim - I think you're doing great girl! Remember you're building muscle so that might slow the scale but will pay off in the long run.

Heather - I can soooo sympathize. I've cut my finger several times. Of course I still don't always use the guard.... Hope it's feeling better now.

Sophie - Can you get a web cam? I have a couple of friends who keep in touch with grandchildren that way between visits and it's a fun way to watch them.

Since several people asked - So far the naturopath has recommended as much ginger, papaya, and pineapple as I want along with fish oil caps, acidophiles and some other combo I have to pick-up next week. She's also doing food sensitivity testing along with checking my Vit. D level and my entire thyroid function. I know that too much wheat causes me problems but not sure what else. I'm interested in learning more because not only do I have autoimmune arthritis but my blood pressure is on the high side even after losing weight. the newer research points to inflammation as the culprit for a lot of things including heart problems, blood pressure and cancer so I'm definitely interested in seeing if I can manage it with diet. It was an interesting experience to say the least, not at all like seeing a western doctor. I already use a massage therapist to handle my crunched neck disks so I'm used to an alternative approach but this was different.

Hope everyone is staying warm!

rdw1 01-16-2009 08:37 PM

Cyndi- Be sure to keep us updated! Sounds like your doctor has lots of knowledge for you! and yes, I love the not beef and not chicken boullion cubes... I also like the knorr veggie ones too! so much cheaper to use those than to use the canned broths, and IMO they taste better!
