Weekend Chick Chat

I love Saturday mornings!

So far, nothing is on the agenda for today. If I have it my way, I'd love to just stay home all day and read and sew. :) Shhhhhhh! :sssh: Don't tell my kids!

Who's up and wants to chat a bit?

TwynnB 01-03-2009 07:27 AM

Shhh...me too!

Our plans...house clean up. Take down the tree, pack up all the Christmas stuff, put ALL these toys...somewhere! When my DH and I put our noses to the grindstone at the same time, it only takes an hour or two (um, without the tree thing!). So, hopefully we'll go play after somewhere. Maybe the Y pool?

Ruthxxx 01-03-2009 07:29 AM

Drat! You beat me to it!

Feels like Monday to me but I'll get over it. We have a cold and sunny day coming up and I have absolutely no "musts" today. I may join Cottage in the sewingroom. I have three quilt backs to get ready for my meeting Monday morning. I plan to work in a trip to the Library as well so it will be a lovely day.

Wishing you all the same. :cofdate:

Pacergal29 01-03-2009 08:16 AM

No plans for me either today, of course the rest of the house is still sleeping so that could change! I do at some point today need to venture to the grocery store. I'm thinking it's a chili kind of day.

Hope you ladies all have a great weekend, check back with ya later!

Loriann7 01-03-2009 08:17 AM

Good morning girlfriends.... a day home would be wonderful but I do not forsee it for me this weekend. My sis and I are meeting up for lunch... it's a 45 min drive for me. She says she has a birthday card for me (that was mid Dec) so I have a feeling she also has either a gift or a gift card to go with it. I have a lunch ticket for Applebees, so we'll be heading there.

I just received an email from a friend of mine that he wants to ride with me to a friends house for her apartment warming party. I really didn't want to go as I can not afford a gift, but I told him I would. Strange to buy a housewarming gift for someone in their forty's because she's lived with mom her entire life. But he'd be picking me up at my house so that means I have to squeeze in house cleaning somewhere in all this hubbub today!

I finally have a Dr.s appointment set for Tuesday.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

CyndiM 01-03-2009 08:29 AM

Good morning all :coffee2: I've been up but moving slowly this morning. I need a weekend to recover from the last two weeks but have my usual long To DO list. Being us tomorrow we want to head to NYS to look for a hawk owl that's been seen lately so that's another day I won't get anything done. Ah well :)

Lori - I miss you in the mornings! Glad to hear you have a dr. appt. Hopefully you will get some answers.

I'll be back between errands. Have a good day Chicks.

sophie 01-03-2009 08:58 AM

Good morning,
Cottage and Ruth - sounds like fun, hanging around the sewing machine. Hope it comes true.
TwynnB- hope you go out and play today. Nice that DH will help.
Stephanie - enjoy your time while everyone is sleeping. I love to get up early and be all by myself.
Loriann - nice to get a gift certificate. There are lots of good sales on right now. Have a nice lunch at Applebees
Cyndi - I think we saw a goshawk yesterday. No sure, will have to look into my bird book.
I bought a new scale yesterday and the picture isn't pretty. Still have the old one which works occasionally and seems like the new one to begin with weighs three lbs more and then there was a Christmas gain so that it not good, but have to pick those old socks up and work at it. I'm not changing my tracker for awhile Ruth.
One of our resolutions is to drive less so that we can save up some money to drive out West in May to be dear DD and family, so far so good. Nothing special on just making some soup and a taco bake today.
Sophie

cottagebythesea 01-03-2009 09:37 AM

I just made a yummy breakfast of whole grain pancakes with berries and pecans, it was a nice diversion from my usual oatmeal and a pleasant way to start the day.

Sophie, we're finding ways to cut back and save more this year, too. Our normal routine is to go out for breakfast on the weekends, but we actually enjoyed our little breakfast at home this morning. :) You had asked me in yesterday's thread what a serving of my soup would be - I'd say a serving would be about 1 1/2 cups. It's a thick, hearty soup, so it's really filling.

Cyndi, I hope you get all your "to-do's" finished today to free up tomorrow for you! It sounds like a fun excursion, and I hope you're lucky enough to sight the hawk!

Loriann, I'm glad you made that Dr's appointment to find out what's going on! Have a nice lunch with your sister this afternoon.

Stephanie, chili sounds good! I hope your grocery store isn't too crowded today, if I don't get out early on a weekend, the stores get crazy around here!

Ruth, yesterday felt like a Monday all day to me. Come on down and we'll have a good old-fashioned sewing bee this afternoon. :)

Twynne, have fun putting all your Christmas stuff away. We did ours on Thursday, and I'm happy that I have today free. A nice swim in a warm pool sounds like a great way to relax after doing the chores!

Pearlrose 01-03-2009 09:41 AM

Good morning,

Got to go take DD1 to get replacement permit license this morning it was in the person that was stolen in Colorado, other than that not much on the agenda pretty quiet hehe like that.

Enjoy your day ladies.

Kim_Star060404 01-03-2009 10:03 AM

Good Saturday morning, chickies!

Cottage: Thanks for starting us up this morning. I hope you're able to have a very quiet sewing day!

Twynn: I hope you and DH get everything done quickly! We get things done a lot faster when we work together. Enjoy your day!

Ruth: Isn't it nice when there are no "musts"? I hope you and the doggage have a quiet day as well!

Stephanie: Mmmmm...some chili would be good today. I bet I have stuff on hand to make some. I hope you have a great day!

Lori: Enjoy your lunch! I'm glad you have a dr's appt. Please let us know how it goes.

Cyndi: I feel like I need a weekend to recover and I've been off for almost two weeks! I can imagine how you're feeling! I hope you get some relaxing done this weekend.

Sophie: Sorry about the scale issues. I weigh-in at several different places and they're always different. I'm sure you'll get off the holiday weight and extra scale weight in no time! Have a great day!

Pearl: What a bummer about DD's belongings, but at least everything is replaceable. I hope you both have a nice day.

Me: I don't have much planned today. I just need to put away one load of laundry and pick up the house a bit. We had plans to clean out the carport and clean out the shed today, but I don't know if DH is going to have the motivation to get that done.

We have a birthday party tonight for DH's boss and I'm a bit worried about what they're going to serve. I think I'll just eat dinner before we go and snack a bit on the veggie platter.

Well, off to do the dishes! Oh the excitement!!!

Barb0522 01-03-2009 10:39 AM

I had a wonderful night last night. I dropped Brian at the birthday party/sleepover and then went and had dinner with Don and one of his friends. It was a wonderful Persian/Italian restaurant with belly dancing. The lamb kabob was so good and the Persian hot tea was great. I had never had grilled tomatoes but they were good too. The basmati rice wasn't brown but I didn't eat much. I'm actually down 2 pounds from the first of the month so I'm happy.

Afterwards we went back to his place and watched the movie Hancock. Yesterday I packed up 28 book boxes with Robert's books and Don said he'd come and move them to the storage with me today. I've got to pick up Brian around noon. The boys are catching a movie this morning before the birthday party ends.

me4life 01-03-2009 11:01 AM

ozziesgirl 01-03-2009 11:07 AM

Morning everyone, well afternoon here. House cleaning is planned for today. We're having some people over tomorrow so I always go through the house like a tornado. I guess it's good for exercise ;)

Jenskihere 01-03-2009 12:00 PM

Happy Saturday!! What a day yesterday!! I was complaining earlier in the week that I was tired of being home and stuck in the house, boy, I go from one extreme to the other!! Yesterday started out with an early start, picked up my brother and his kids and headed to the jumpy place, then off to lunch at a train themed place. DS saw their train layout and begged to add a bridge to his new train. So, we dropped my brother off and DS and I headed out in search of a bridge. We stopped and picked up new shoes for school (haircut is still on the list), and went to a hobby store. In the meantime I had called my other brother, who also loves model trains for advice on where to go. He wanted to tag along. We picked up him (and his 2 kids!) and headed in the opposite direction in search of a bridge. We ended up finding a lot of great things, but no bridge. My brother bought DS a lot of things to add to his train layout and we headed home. The boys headed to the home improvement store for wood to mount the new train, and my parents stopped by in the middle of all this. We ended up ordering pizza, setting up the new train and playing Guitar Hero until 12:30am!! It was a great night, we had tons of family fun, and we are exhausted today!!

Monday is my birthday, so DH and the kids are off today in search of a gift (I really want an inexpensive espresso machine, so I can make my own skinny lattes!) and then off to dinner tonight to celebrate. Busy day of catching up on work and laundry for me while the house is quiet. I can't wait for the routine to return to normal on Monday!!

Oh yeah... the other thing on my to-do list is visit the New Balance store for new gym shoes. I am getting back into running and need new shoes anyway!! I'm excited about this... nerdy, right?

jenne1017 01-03-2009 12:28 PM

On my way to Wegman's today. LOVE IT. I missed it so much while living down here the last 10 years. Am armed with shopping list and raring to go!

Aside from the fight with DW -- she was being irrational and saying us eating two different kinds of meals made her feel like we're just roommates!!! WTF???? She wants shepard's pie. I said I'd make the Ph1 kind. But that's not REAL shepard's pie she says. So I told her to make her own! :lol3: egads!

zeffryn 01-03-2009 12:37 PM

Jen - we have a stovetop espresso machine that works really well and was really inexpensive. We only drink espresso once or twice a month, so buying the big machine seemed a little silly.

-
Mom is in town and has been really great. She made breakfast for the family this morning and has really been taking care of the family. She just made a grocery list and is planning to go to the store to re-stock our fridge and have the ingredients to make food for the week.

It rained HARD this morning. We noticed that we have a few leaks in the roof. thankfully we caught it before it ruined anything and LL said he would fix it come Monday.

Baby only woke 3 times to feed last night. I fed him at 10:30 before we went to bed, again at 1, again at 4:45 and again at 8. I really hope these are signs that he is adapting to his schedule, it was nice to sleep a little.

Time to take a shower! Have a great Saturday, girls!

Jenskihere 01-03-2009 01:03 PM

Wal-Mart has a Mr. Coffee espresso machine for under $30. Looks small enough to keep on the counter or stash in the cabinet. I am tired of paying $4 each and would much rather drink a skinny latte than coffee these days. The reviews were good on the machine, said it did the job and couldn't beat the price. We'll see I guess. We are heading to the Olive Garden tonight for dinner. My favorite place!! And the kids really enjoy it there too, so makes a family dinner a little easier.
I need some new headphones for my iPod. One of the ear buds always pops out while I am working out. I have tried several kinds and I don't know what else to look at. I think I have an irregular shapped ear. I don't see others at the gym constantly pushing the earbud back in!!

Zeff - Glad to hear that your mom is there and taking wonderful care of you and your family!! Nothing beats having your mom around! My mom lives mintues from us and she stayed with us for a few days when DS was born. It was great!! How long will she be here??

Jenn - Hopefully you and DW can come to a middle ground. Maybe making 2 version woudn't be a bad idea. Then freeze them off in seperate portions for a later meal. DH doesn't always eat when I do, so at times I do this and just heat up my version when I don't want what the family is eating, or I have an extra lunch stashed away for myself.

Chelby29 01-03-2009 01:22 PM

Happy Saturday! Started my day off with a Jazzercise class. Fun, Fun! My 5year old has a cold and didn't sleep well last night; therefore, I didn't sleep well either. It's definitely a nap-kind-of-a-day.

zeffryn 01-03-2009 05:25 PM

Jen - She will be here until next Saturday. It will be nice to have the help, especially since DH starts work again on Monday.

I agree with Chelby - this is a nap kind of day.

Barb0522 01-03-2009 05:35 PM

Brian has been napping ever since I picked him up from the sleepover. Apparently 11 and 12 year old boys do not sleep at sleepovers although some slept through the movie. I think he is finally waking up now.

We postponed moving the boxes until tomorrow. I've been out doing yardwork. It's 83 today and I've been trying really hard not to turn on the air conditioning but I am in shorts. But before you think this is typical, understand that the high tomorrow is 46! I think my crockpot beef stew should have been for tomorrow. Maybe I'll move it to the fridge and throw some burgers on the grill tonight.

Pearlrose 01-03-2009 05:42 PM

Well, we got DD permit license but now she came down with the stomach bug, I thought it left the house.....

Anyways finished with cleaning and now just hanging out.

Have a great evening ladies!

zeffryn 01-03-2009 10:12 PM

Pearl - congrats on DD's permit! I remember those days. EXCITING!!!

DS1 is in bed and we're getting ready to watch a movie. I'm about to make some popcorn.

I went the entire day without the support belt today - my back eventually hurt, but my incision area is about 99% pain free. I'm going to have to deal with back pain for a few days until my muscle strength comes back in that area. I also checked the scale this morning and the 12 lbs. that I gained with the pregnancy is gone - now to work on the rest that I need to lose and tone up the "deflated" look that my belly has.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for good sleep again tonight.

Jenskihere 01-03-2009 10:26 PM

Zeff - sending lots of sleeping vibes your way!!

zeffryn 01-04-2009 12:05 AM

Jen - I meant to say something about the headphones. I can't wear the earbuds, I haven't been able to find any that actually fit my ears. I ended up getting a pair of regular earphones that fit behind my head for working out. Not quite as sleek, but at least they don't fall out every 2 minutes.

Did you get the espresso machine?

Ruthxxx 01-04-2009 06:59 AM

Good morning! I hope everyone has a Serene Sunday. We were supposed to have freezing rain this morning but the weather person was wrong again! It'll be cold but sunny. After Church, I'll load up the woodbox just in case the prediction comes true.

Just checked my voicemail and the pypers may be coming this afternoon. So much for serenity! At least I won't have to fill the woodbox as they'll insist on doing it. Now to find a roast and do a quick thaw in the microwave.

:cofdate:

cottagebythesea 01-04-2009 07:28 AM

A Serene Sunday? I don't know yet. Yesterday was counted as my serene day, though. :) I didn't leave the house, and the only phone calls were Monica calling to let me know of Caitlyn's progress, traveling back to school, and calling later to say she arrived there safely. :) I cross-stitched, read, napped, and cooked a nice supper for Jake. It was lovely!

I have to run out for a few groceries today and want to stop in to see Mom & Dad, but that's all I have on the agenda. I'm sure Dustin, Andrea and the grandkids will come for supper. I'm making SCHMOODLE's recipe creation, Spaghetti Squash Deep-Dish Italian Pie for my supper, and probably a pasta dish for the rest of them.

CyndiM 01-04-2009 07:29 AM

Good morning Chicks! We are off to the Adirondacks in search of a hawk owl and maybe some bohemian waxwings while we are there. Should be a fun day no matter what. We haven't gone chasing a bird in awhile but it's always fun.

Zeff - Glad to hear you're feeling so good!

Jenn - Do you think DW actually has other concerns about you losing weight? We have been eating slightly different meals for years because of DPs diabetes. I used to make healthy dinners for her and eat mine on pasta or mashed potatoes :o Then last year she would load up on the protein and I would load up on the veggies but same foods. Now she is eating more like I do. I never pushed the issue but know it will make her healthier too. Good luck

Jen - Did you get an espresso machine and do you love it? Hmm, I might need one of those :) I have a problem with earbuds too, need the really tiny ones. Apparently I have small ears - who knew?!

Kim - How was the party. BTW - I love your workout names ;)

 everyone waking up. Have a good day and stay warm :)

Pacergal29 01-04-2009 08:04 AM

Good Morning Chicks! I am taking DS back to college after church today so it will be a long day on the road. Thats ok though, my mind needs some alone time and the drive back should help with that.

Hopefully with everyone back to school and work tomorrow we will get back to a routine and I will stop this blasted off plan eating of mine!

Hope you all have a peaceful Sunday.

TwynnB 01-04-2009 08:12 AM

Good morning chicks!

I bought my DH an espresso machine years ago for father's day. He'll go on spurts of using it...right now, not at all (because it's in a high cabinet!). It does come in handy though!

I was proud of myself yesterday...went on a run despite the cold, since it was such a pretty day. Went 6 miles! My husband asked me how it went (since I mostly do treadmill now)...I'm not used to hills anymore...Nor going that far! I'm going to have to try to do that more often...the last time I went that far was at his parents over thankgiving. It felt good though, and the cold (32) didn't bother me at all.

Todays plans -church, and ...dunno. Maybe the Y for swimming? Have to find something for the kids to get their energy out!

Have a great day all!

me4life 01-04-2009 08:18 AM

morning all....i'm up way to early don't know why. i so cannot wait til school starts tommorrow so i can get this place back in order. the cats think its a play room theres always something around to play with now...geeez

pam920 01-04-2009 09:14 AM

Good morning.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I've been exercising and eating right since the 1st. I finally tried the peanut butter cup. It is so yummy.

Spaghetti squash sounds good. I went shopping yesterday and bought one, so that will be dinner tonight.

Zeff, sounds like you are doing great.

Hi to everyone.

zeffryn 01-04-2009 11:14 AM

Morning, girls..

I'm getting spoiled by having my mom here. She does everything. :)

I posted this same question in the phase 1 chick thread, but I wanted to get as much feedback as possible:

I'm getting ready to start SB to lose again, any ideas on what modifications I will need to make since I breastfeed? ahealthyme.com says that I need at least 1860 calories to meet my body's basic energy needs and since I'm breastfeeding, I can eat between 2500 - 3000 calories per day and still lose a bit of weight. I'm going to aim for 2500 and see how that goes - if it starts to affect my supply, I'll move it up a bit.

murphydoodle2 01-04-2009 12:29 PM

Hello all!

I got home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. Surgery went well, but I didn't react well to the anesthesia. Apparently I wanted to get out of bed immediately after surgery and it took 6+ people to keep me in the bed. As a result, I got to spend the night in the hospital.

I think I'm doing pretty well. I'm only taking Tylenol for pain and I'm able to get around a little. I'm still sleeping a lot though. I'll be back when I have more energy!

Jenskihere 01-04-2009 12:34 PM

Happy Sunday. We are heading to my mom and dad's house for my birthday dinner in a bit. My mom masked me what kind of birthday cake I wanted. Cake?!? Yikes!! Typically I would pick angel food cake with chocolate frosting! Not anymore! I said, can we try a SF/low fat cream cheese cheesecake?? She said she would try! Yipee!!
We didn't go to Olive Garden for dinner last night. We tried... it was a 70 minute wait! Not with kids!! We ended up at a steak place with no wait. I had a crab cake and a salad. Not too far OP. We went shopping for new head phones. I got Sony ones meant for working out. They are earbuds with a stap. Goes on top of my head, also has rubbery covers on the earbuds. Hopefully this helps stop the slipping when I sweat. Gross I know! But I have to wear headphones and listen to music while working out and having them slip all the time is so annoying! We went to the New Balance store and I found new gym shoes. They didn't have my size, so they ordered them and should have them this week. Ouch! $150 for new shoes!! I didn't expect to pay this much!
I didn't get the espresso machine, yet. My actual birthday is tomorrow. We'll see if DH gets it or not. He said he had a different idea. If not, I'll pick it up for myself. I need those lattes!
Enjoy your Sunday!!
Zeff, take it easy coming back to SB. You aren't even 1week post-op girl!!

Murphy - Glad to hear you are home. Rest up.

TwynnB 01-04-2009 12:53 PM

Zeff - I'm not too sure I'd worry about it if I were you! I was always ten lbs below pre-pregnancy weight by nursing, and then gained it back when I stopped.

I bet if you just stick to the principles of the whole grains, dairy, nuts, etc, and eat when you're hungry, you'll be good! I know when I nursed, I used it as an excuse to eat BAD foods (go Ho-Ho's!!!), but that was before SBD!

I totally agree with TWYNN. Just follow the Phase 2 basics, eating balanced meals, wholegrains, and avoid sweets. ;)

Ruthxxx 01-04-2009 01:44 PM

Whew! Got a call from the Pypers just as I was hauling out a monster roast to thaw. Freezing rain seems definite now so they won't be here for dinner. I've got taco bake, mealtloaf and stew on the go for the stash. All beef! I am going to cut back on beef in 2009 so those meals will probably still be in my stash in May!

Just filled the woodbox which will do me a few days and am going upstairs to piece some quilt backs for tomorrow's meeting which may be cancelled if we get the predicted ice crud. ** Sigh ** a quiet afternoon coming up with my furries and my other pet, my sewing machine.

me4life 01-04-2009 02:12 PM

we already had freezing rain this morning and i have to run my daughter to her dads should be interesting

Chelby29 01-04-2009 04:49 PM

In Alabama, if the weather folks even SAY the word 'snow' or 'ice', we go crazy. I think the milk industry has a pact with the news media that when sales are down, the weatherman says, "SNOW!", and we all go nuts racing for milk and bread. We get a couple dustings of snow every year. Usually, it's not even cold enough to freeze the roads when it snows. It's just some novel fun. :)

Barb0522 01-04-2009 05:28 PM

Zeff - I think sticking with a principles of phase 2 would be good but make sure you get plenty of dairy which will help with your milk supply. The extra calories are important. I wouldn't worry too much about the calories until he starts eating solids and nursing less. Right now the calories are important. Enjoy this time. I didn't get Brian fully weaned until he was 3 and I really think it is one reason we are so close.

Jenski - Happy Birthday! I've thought about making a chocolate cake for my birthday next Sunday but I think I'm going to skip it. I'd end up eating too much. Don is taking Brian and I out for dinner. If something looks good, maybe I'll get it and all three of us can share so I don't eat more than a few bites.

murphy - Rest up and regain your strength.

Me - Robert's books are in the storage unit now. It didn't take long with both Don and I moving them. I had my rear turnlight go out today but Don said he'd fix it. Just not sure when. He did agree to come with us to the District Scouting Dinner later this month. I hate driving in downtown Dallas and this way I don't have to. Yeah!!
