:welcome3:, tiklmipink! We're happy you've come back on the beach with us! That chili recipe sounds pretty good, I'll have to give it go, but I still think I'd add some legumes to it just to get some extra beans in. :) Why don't you go and post it in the Phase 1 recipe board so more people can see it?

that recipe sounds interesting :) can't do tomatoes so maybe i could find something to sub for them ?

Today is my first day of phase two. I weighed in this morning and I have lost 12 lbs!! I am excited to continue amd proud of myself that I stuck to it. I haven't done that in awhile haha. Congrats and good luck to all of you. Now I have to figure out what I am adding back in. Eek!

I'm back on the beach again!!!!! I started Monday Jan 5th at 183.8 and today I weighed 181.2

This time around my hunger has been controlled and I feel good :)

Oh, I'm happy! Lost more than I had hoped. This a.m. was my first weigh-in after starting last Monday.

I'm currently on Day 4 and really have only have 1 major craving but worked thru it ~ no hunger issues, no "carb flu", nothing ?? wondering what I am doing wrong ?? the only thing I have eaten that wasn't exactly perfect was chili that had beans in them that had sugar in them, but I rinsed them before putting them in and it was a minimal amount ~ today I had a sweet tooth so made the creamy pb cookie recipe and that totally did it for me, now i am fine ! last time i did SB i was constantly craving everything i should not eat! either i'm messing up somewhere i don't realize or my body is finally giving in and submitting lol...

I just got the book today. I was going to do fat Smash but hate beans which is a big part of that diet.
I am just reading so I don't know much about it but am seriously thinking of trying it. Right now I am just cutting back and counting calories in my head. I would like a little more structure just to keep me on track.

cottagebythesea 01-13-2009 06:24 AM

:welcome2: DiBaskin! I'm glad you are reading the book to be prepared for starting this plan. You will discover, however, that beans play an important part of this way of eating, too. They are full of protein, fiber, nutrients, and really help keep the SBD flu-like symptoms at bay on Phase 1.

Welcome back, SkinnyChallenged! It's good to see you again!

I'm back on the beach again, starting this morning. I'm going to go and check out some of the recipes.

Question: Is it possible that my workouts are interferring with weightloss? It seems to me that the days after I work out I am up 2-3 lbs. When I go a few days without, the scale drops dramatically. Or am I retaining water? I dunno. Any help?

Week one on phase 1- down 3.5!

Pretty happy :)

HeatherMcG 01-13-2009 03:12 PM

me4life- Thanks for the link. I guess I was just thinking that the whole water weight thing shouldn't apply to me because I have been weight lifting for a long time as well as doing the 30 DS. Its not a new activity or weight level for my body. So why the water? I guess because bodies are WEIRD! :dizzy:

ok. I've never read the book :o I just learned everything from the website. I think the "limits" on protein are part of learning what an appropriate serving size is. Also, if you stick to the guidelines, you won't go over 1500 - 2000 calories. thinking of my protein in terms of ounces has really helped me a lot, because i'm a vegetarian, and before SB i rarely ate enough protein to be healthy. knowing that 1 egg= 1oz, and 1/4 beans = 1 oz, etc makes it easier to make sure i eat enough. and when we buy meat, (mostly fish, but bf likes beef) we have them cut filets of 4 oz servings, otherwise we'd each eat way too much.

Hi everyone,

I used to be on 3FC constantly about a year ago, but mainly in Calorie Counters and Featherweights. I've been struggling to drop my last 5-10 pounds for a while, and when I recently read South Beach Diet, it made a lot of sense. I tend to basically eat like the diet prescribes anyway, so I thought I would just step it up and make sure I was following it. I started on Monday morning, and the only real change from my normal diet is no fruit (though Mon night I had an apple).

This morning I woke up ridiculously sick. I've read that a lot of people get the "South Beach Flu," but this seemed different - I actually threw up a few times. Also, I'd be kind of surprised if I got the SB Flu anyway, as the diet is very similar to what I normally eat.

Is this the SB Flu? Or am I actually sick? Either way, what's a good thing to eat when I'm this sick? I had some cold grilled chicken breast for breakfast and it was a bit hard to eat, and I still don't feel great.

Thanks, ladies!
