Friday Frat Chat

Good Morning Ladies.

I'm fixing to take Jade for a walk before I go to work. They called me about 5 yesterday to start today. It's a temp job for just a couple weeks and needed me to start immediately. I'd rather start monday.... Oh well, at what they are paying for what I'll be doing I'll start today. Collection calls, joy!

tomandkara 10-17-2008 05:30 AM

Have fun at the new job, Lori!

We're off to a great start for a Friday. Good breakfast in and ready to start on our chores for the day. Kadyn is at school, Connor is home as it's his last day of fall break, and Avery is playing with her doll stroller.

Best get on to the laundry.

Kara

Loriann7 10-17-2008 05:50 AM

gm Kara! So good to see you back! I hope you and everyone else that travels through here, even if they don't post, have a wonderful, delightful day!

Took Jade for a good 45 min walk, she gets full blown runs in at the fields as I walk by them! Hopefully tired her enough to behave today while I'm gone. First time I'll be leaving her out of her crate while gone for so long. I think she'll be fine.

BTW: I admit the exercise challenge helped me to get into walking more often. But now, if I don't get at least a walk in daily and 3 sessions of bootcamp a week I notice it! I'm actually enjoying and look forward to my exercise time!

tomandkara 10-17-2008 05:57 AM

Yay for exercise! I need to get on that for November. That will help me remember to check in every day!

Kara

cottagebythesea 10-17-2008 06:42 AM

:coffee: Good morning, you two early birds. :) I slept in an extra hour this morning!

I'll have to pass on exercise today, as I took a nasty fall yesterday on some wet grass and now my hip and ankle are sore. :( I'll be fine, I just came down hard. I ended up staying late last night, got home just in time to watch Survivor. I have the morning off, and other than tidying up the house, I'm looking forward to reading my new cookbook that came in the mail yesterday, Nava Atlas's The Vegetarian 5- Ingredient Gourmet. My DD has the book, and I love it.
We finally made it to AC Moore yesterday and replenished our craft supplies. We picked up some cute Halloween projects, too, and the girls are looking forward to working on them after school today.

Kara, what are your plans for the weekend?

Loriann, I hope you enjoy your temp job! Is it far from home?

My tummy's grumbling, time to make some oatmeal. ;)

Ohana4 10-17-2008 07:06 AM

Sounds like a good morning for all.
I have another long workday ahead of me. I went to a luncheon for my company (for the 5 years I've been there) and kind of went off my diet. I had risotto and a bit of bread pudding. So back to strict P2 foods only again. I think I didn't lose any weight last week either. Another bummer.

Happy Friday everyone!

CyndiM 10-17-2008 07:17 AM

Good morning Chicks :coffee2:

Loriann - Have a good day! Glad to hear they are paying you enough to make it worth your time!

Kara - I've been telling people about you on the exercise challenge for months now :) You really motivated me. It will be fun to have you back on there :)

Cottage - ouch! Hope everything loosens up and doesn't cause you too much trouble today. I absolutely love Nava Atlas' cook books. They have great recipes and they're fun to read :) I think I posted the link to her website before but it's one of my regular stops when I'm looking for food inspiration.

Beachgal - The tattoo is on the inside of my shoulder so it's low enough to cover when I need to. However living in Vermont it's really not an issue. My boss has 3 and my best friend and work mate is Scottish and went with me when I got my two - she has 5. We all have them in places that can easily be covered with grown-up clothes :)

I'm so glad this week is almost over. I do have to be in the office today - have a presentation at 9. DP is sick again and back on antibiotics. She has a CaT (yes, I know) scan on Monday so they can get some definitive answers and get her back on track.

Seems like there is just a lot going on around me right now and I'm trying to remember that stuffing my face won't make any of it better. Old habits apparently lie in wait for weak moments!

Better get moving and get this day started and closer to done! Have a good one everyone

tomandkara 10-17-2008 07:35 AM

We're not planning much, Linda. Tomorrow is going to be General Chores Around the House Day and then Tom and I were invited to an 80's party in the evening so we're leaving the kids with a sitter and going out. Sunday is packed with Sunday School, church, and then AWANA. We leave the house at 8:30 and don't get back until 5:00! Then it's back to business as usual on Monday since Connor's back in school. It's been nice sleeping in this week!

Happy Friday to you, too, Noemi! Get right back on that wagon and you'll be fine!

Cyndi, good luck on your presentation and hope your partner feels better soon! At least they're trying to get to the bottom of it.

Time to go pick up Kadyn and get lunch done. Plus, I don't hear Avery, which probably means she's making trouble!!!

Kara

TwynnB 10-17-2008 07:40 AM

Good morning chickies!

Loriann - have fun with the job!

Kara - loved your pic yesterday, you have a beautiful family!!

Cottage - hope you feel better quick! That cookbook looks interesting....

Ohana - Good morning!

Cyndi - Me. too. Glad the week is almost over. Hopeyou have a relaxing weekend!

Me - Wow. What a week. Not that bad, but I feel exhausted (maybe it's cuz my DD had me up from 2-4 this am?). But alas! It is a short day at work, then if I'm rested, a run with the DH. Did I mention I'm doing a training for a half marathon? Just so I can run that far!!

Have an awesome Friday!!

cottagebythesea 10-17-2008 07:45 AM

CYNDI, I'm sorry to hear that Julie is sick again! :( I hope you get to the bottom of what's causing her problems. I must have missed your earlier references to Nava Atlas's cookbooks, but I'm glad you highly recommend them! I was never much of a meat-eater, and have decided to give it up completely and go the vegetarian route. I just have to make sure I get enough protein in each day, instead of just filling up on veggies and fruit. ;)

Hi, Ohana and Twynne! I hope you can find time for a nap later today, Twynne!

Marianna 10-17-2008 08:14 AM

Howdy everyone :) Just popping in before bed. Hope you all have a great day. I am head down writing papers for university... 3 more weeks to go... 3 more weeks to go.. 3 more weeks to go :)

Lori... I hope the new job isn't too bad. My partner did collections for a bank for awhile and he found it tough going. But I think it probably depends on who you work for

Kara... Could you do some of my laundry as well?????? Pretty please :) I have a mountain of folding that could take out a small child if it ever toppled.

Cottage... sorry to read about the fall. I hope that you heal fast and are getting about soon.

Noemi... Good luck with getting back on plan.

Cyndi.. Good luck with the presentation

Twynne.. marathon training you say! I am always envious of runners, but alas I think my *ahem* chest size is always a good reminder that a brisk walk is all I should be aiming for ;)

tomandkara 10-17-2008 08:56 AM

Good luck with your papers, Marianna! What are you studying?

Twynn, hoping a nap is in the stars for you this afternoon! What's with those crazy kids being up all hours of the night??? Avery has recently decided she's ready to night train so she wakes up all hours of the night to use the potty. Good in the long run, but rough right now! Last night she slept through, though, AND had a dry diaper, so maybe the end is near!

I just wanted chocolate but had a cheese stick instead - 2% no less! Wahoo!

Kara

Pacergal29 10-17-2008 08:56 AM

Morning chicks, fall has arrived, it was a nippy 36 this morning.

Kara so glad to see you back!

Cottage Hope your moving better soon.

Cyndi so sorry to hear DP is having trouble again, hope they get this resolved soon for both your sakes!

Loriann congrats on the job, hope your day goes well.

Me scales are on their way back down finally. DD has a volleyball invatational tomorrow starting at 9am, looks to be an all day thing as they are the one hosting it.

Would really love to get to the Covered Bridge Festival sunday. It is the last day of a 10 day countywide event. Huge crafts, flea markets, food vendors you name it. It is one of my favorite things to do around here every year but very exhausting as their is no possible way to see it all, you have to pick and choose what towns you visit. Traffic is a bear as people come from many states and of course the roads are all curvy country roads. Ah fun, I love it, can't say the same for DH and DD! ;)

Hope you all have a great day.

weezle 10-17-2008 09:00 AM

LORI!!!! WAHOO!!!! Congrats on the temp job! I hope you like it!

Thanks to all for the continued prayers. I should find out early next week if I get the jobby job or not.

Just a quick fly-by. I'm already running late. Was my last morning to sleep in because Little Guy comes home tomorrow! WOOHOO!

Time for shower! Have a great day girls!!!!!

Lisa

Marianna 10-17-2008 09:07 AM

Kara, I study peace and conflict analysis. I also work as a research assistant working on improving the efficacy of peace operations and in particular I look at armed conflict issues that relate to children and youth :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Should add that I was heading to bed and a flurry of writing took over lol

zeffryn 10-17-2008 09:15 AM

Morning girls.....early risers this morning!

Too tired for personals right now, but I'll get to them later. DS needs some attention.

Not much going on today. Unpacking more as we're having a few friends over tomorrow night. Tonight is SIL's birthday, which means dinner at a favorite restaurant.

hmacneil6 10-17-2008 09:22 AM

Good Morning All!!! TGIF!!!!!
Lori - Congrats....get going! Hope the office finds you as sweet as we all find you around here. Here's hoping that they find that they cannot live without you!!

Kara - Have a fun weekend. That 80's party sounds like it will be lots of fun!!!

Cottage - Have fun doing your crafts today and enjoy your new cookbook!!

Noemi - As long as you get right back in, you shouldn't see any major effects. Just get to it!!!

Cyndi - So sorry that Julie still isn't better. I hope the CaT scan will help in figuring out what's going on! And despite the craziness around, fight to stay on track!!!

Twynn - Wow! Training for a half marathon is quite the undertaking. Keep up the good work. We'll all be cheering for you when you run it!!!

Marianna - Have fun writing your paper ;) Hope you get a chance to get out and stretch for a while. Breath some fresh air.

Pacergal - The festival sounds like so much fun. My dh and I love that kind of stuff. Hope you're able to make it out there. And good luck to your DD tomorrow at the tournament!!!

Weezle - I keep hoping you have heard good news by now. I'm sure the waiting is killing you. I hope you're able to concentrate and get stuff done over the weekend!!

Me - We currently have no plans for tonight or tomorrow evening....which is SO not like us. My sister is having a garage sale tomorrow and she asked if I would come and help. I'm thinking I will, and then I think I'm going to the Avenue to pick up some pants (All pants are all sale for $18) and a pair of boots that I need for my Halloween costume. I might also try to get a pedicure in. On Sunday after church we're headed to a Harvest Craft Festival which should be a whole lot of fun. Maybe not doing anything tonight is actually a good idea, come to think of it ;)
Have a great Friday, ladies!!!
ENJOY!!!!

GONNABE165 10-17-2008 09:35 AM

Good morning everyone!

Got a busy few hours here at work as dh and I are headed out of town as soon as I leave the office.

Cottage take care of that hip

You guys have a great weekend and I'll "see" ya on Monday.

Jenskihere 10-17-2008 10:49 AM

Morning everyone. You guys were up early!!
What a week! My pain is finally gone. That's because at yesterday's dentist apt, he felt that it was getting much worse and needed to be pulled. He got me into the oral surgeon right away and by lunch time I was without a troublesome tooth!! I feel so much better! Just uncomfortable now. Whew! I feel like I lost an entire week here! Need to get OP soon, as soon as I can chew again.
DS's last soccer game is tomorrow. Those are the only plans this weekend... love that!!

JessieW 10-17-2008 11:09 AM

Hi ladies. Thought I would let you know I am still here and pregnant! Baby is due next Sunday...it is strange to wake up every day and wonder if it will be today. I am not too hopeful I will go before my due date--but who knows?!

Here's my huge pregnant belly!

Good morning and willpowder dust to everyone for the weekend.

Loriann - having a dog does encourage one to exercise. When we had our golden I walked her for about 1hr each day for 12 years. She lived to be 16. and now I really have to push myself to walk.

Cottage - happy there were no serious injuries.

Kara - enjoy your little guys this weekend and no my home is nowhere close to looking like Ina's.

Noemi - nurses and teachers are extra special people.

Stephanie - I too love covered bridges. Saw alot of them in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Marianna - Congratulations, a university education will so worth it.

Weezle - I feel your stress.

Zeff - take it easy you have a long time to settle in.

Gonna - have a fun and safe weekend.

Jenskihere - glad your tooth is better. I have also had major toothaches along the way.

Cyndi - hope dp is better soon and you stress level goes down.

me - there I did it, I lost a post when I went to the second page and had to start all over again. Today I am working on my garden. I had this whole are that overgrew with violets and have been digging them up all summer. They just keep popping up. Nice flower for about a week but so hard to control. Don't know what we are up to this weekend, maybe a nice drive to the country.

oh jessie you look lovely.

zeffryn 10-17-2008 11:14 AM

Jessie - you look great! That shirt is really cute!

Jenskihere 10-17-2008 11:17 AM

Jessie - you look great! And ready to go anyday! LOL.
Hang in there, only a few more days to go... Do you know if you are having a boy or girl??

uscarchie 10-17-2008 11:19 AM

Hey girls, I need some advice:

On the 21st it's my first anniversary... Yay! However, I have frozen wedding cake in my freezer.... when should I pull that out so we can indulge and celebrate? Do I start thawing it now? I don't usually freeze cakes... when I made them before, they didn't last that long!

:)

Thanks for your help!

JessieW 10-17-2008 11:31 AM

Jenski--It's a girl

Zeff--Thanks, this is one of the only shirts I've worn the whole pregnancy and not wanted to rip into shreds by now. ;)

Jenskihere 10-17-2008 11:32 AM

I don't think it takes that long to defrost a cake. Typically in the past, I have taken them out in the morning of the day I would serve them. To be safe you can take it out the day before.

Congrats on your 1st year!!

zeffryn 10-17-2008 11:33 AM

uscarchie- be prepared for that cake to not taste very good...ours was...rather gross. The fondant didn't freeze well at all and the filling just tasted old. We both had a couple bites, but enjoyed the meal we prepared a lot more.

I would take it out a day or two before the 21st. Let it sit in the fridge to thaw.

jessie - I need to get a pair of maternity jeans. Badly! I saw a pair at Target that were kind of cute, but the cuts of maternity jeans annoy me, it seems like they are tapered in the legs. I also saw a pair of black pants that looked really comfortable that I might pick up. Lord knows I don't need anymore black clothes, but my butt is feeling fat and I would like to disguise it :)

Jenskihere 10-17-2008 11:35 AM

A girl! How exciting! (A boy is exciting too though LOL).
I didn't know what I was having when DD was born... and I swear in the delivery room I could see these images flying out of DH's head when they announced "It's a girl". I saw pigtails, prom dresses, boyfriends and weddings fly from DH's head in a matter of seconds. They are your textbook Daddy's Little girl example today, she is 3.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was going to say that too about it not tasting so great. We found the same thing with ours.

JessieW 10-17-2008 11:45 AM

We ate our cake when we got back from the honeymoon. It was too good to freeze for a year! ;) Also, we were moving 10 hours away the next day and I wasn't about to try to transport cake that far.

zeff--I have HATED all my maternity jeans. I have heard it is worth it to buy the perfect fit (?) from Motherhood. Next time I will buy a decent pair at the beginning. I am such a jeans girl and it has killed me not to have a pair I like. I don't know if it's cause I don't have much of a booty compared to the rest of my body, but all my jeans have fallen down like crazy. ARGH!

Those black pants are the maternity yoga pants from Old Navy and I could live in them.

Pearlrose 10-17-2008 12:53 PM

Good morning everyone,

It was supposed to be a quiet day at work but all heck broke lose and we have finally calmed down. I have meetings to go to since my boss is sick he delegated to me.

Love that everyone is posting so much and have so many posting so sorry I don't have time to reply to everyone unless I can get in much earlier.

This weekend tonight is DS Football game, and then DH old friend from HS is here so have to entertain her. Tomorrow is the fall festival in town so will go to that that and then maybe the zoo later on.

Have a great day everyone!!!

zeffryn 10-17-2008 02:04 PM

Jessie - I hear you about hating maternity jeans....they just don't fit right, and if they do fit the panel makes them ugly around the crotch area. The new secret fit belly panel from Motherhood is awesome, though. I have a pair of grey wool tweed trousers with it and they really don't look any different from regular pants...and COMFORTABLE! The belly panel doesn't roll or twist at all.

I had a pair of Seven for all Mankind maternity jeans with DS1, but my hips and butt are bigger now and they don't fit. I'm not about to spend $100 or more to get another pair, either.

-

After dinner tonight, we're going to go to Barnes and Noble. DS has really been begging to go play with the trains lately, and I could use a cup of coffee and a good book. The last time we were there, there was a little bully playing at the table as well. Why parents just let their toddlers play at the table without supervision just blows my mind. Hopefully it will be better this time because it will be later.

Anybody have any ideas for cleaning and *keeping clean* wood stairs? I washed them with Murphy's oil soap this morning, but 5 seconds afterwards there were little footprints and kitty hair on the stairs again. I just wiped them down with pledge, hoping that it will make the kitty hair easier to pick up with the dust mop.

Wood floors are a LOT of work....especially when you are as neurotic as I am about clean floors.

TwynnB 10-17-2008 02:09 PM

Hey preggie ladies...

We have a Ross in town, and this one has an excellent selection of maternity clothes. Also finally found khakis for work at a burlington coat factory outlet.

Hope that helps a bit!

(and everyone says gap clearance online is great, but I was never tall and skinny for their regular clothes, much less their maternity clothes!!)

zeffryn 10-17-2008 02:18 PM

Twynn - I've tried Ross, but the store by us has about 4 maternity things. I like Gap as well. I really like their non-maternity jeans, I wonder what their maternity jeans are like. I really like to try on jeans before I purchase though. I wish we had a Old Navy or Gap that had maternity around here.

Jenskihere 10-17-2008 02:34 PM

Zeff - I have wood floors too and we use hot water and white vinegar on them. The lady that cleaned my house said Murphy's soap isn't that great. She used the water/vinegar combo and my floors are the cleaniest and shinest that they have ever been. I used to buy all these different cleaners, spend hours and they never looked good. Now they look awesome!

zeffryn 10-17-2008 02:44 PM

Jen - thanks for that. I usually use water/vinegar on my non carpeted floors, but hadn't used it on wood. I would feel much better about using that instead of cleaners on the floors. I also thought to use Shaklee's Basic H and hot water.
Cleaning my floors with toxic cleaner is not my idea of clean :)

Jenskihere 10-17-2008 03:05 PM

And you can't get much cheaper than a gallon of white vinegar! We use it on EVERYTHING!! Even takes out stains on my carpets. A lesson in cleaning for me! No more windex, carpet cleaners or expensive wood floor cleaners.

Pacergal29 10-17-2008 04:36 PM

Zeff be careful with that pledge it can make things slippery! We won't ask how I know that ok? ;)

I was thinking the same thing, my heart skipped a beat when I thought about her condition + stairs + pledge. White vinegar and water sounds a lot safer in more then one way.

CyndiM 10-17-2008 09:39 PM

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone.

My presentation was a breeze, didn't mean to make it sound scary :) I love talking about my new project.

Our day was a little crazy. The story about the local child care finally broke so we went into damage control/education mode. On the plus side we've had two weeks to really get ready and fine tune the important information to share. It's also a relief to know it's out and we don't have to keep waiting for it. Now we can move on and talk about the issues.

Cottage - Of course the answer is beans ;) And Greek yogurt! I'm also a big seitan fan but that may be an acquired taste. This recipe is really good though, made it last weekend and loved it: http://www.postpunkkitchen.com/forum...p?id=15959&p=1

Marianna - I envy the runners too! I tried doing the C25K program and my knee immediately made like a balloon. My Dr. said no way. Sometimes I just want to move a little faster! Be careful what you say about your chest. I used to say those things too. Now.....

Heather - Isn't there a rule that, if you mention a halloween costume you have to post a picture?!

Have a good evening Chicks! I'm off to curl up with a good book.

eta: The Passionate Vegetarian is my other favorite cookbook but it's too big to read in bed :)

hmacneil6 10-17-2008 10:36 PM

Cyndi - Didn't know that was a rule.....but you might be able to convince me to share a pic or two. I actually have two different costumes this year, one for school (conservative) and one for an annual party (not bad, but certainly not high school faculty appropriate). So we'll see ;)
