I attached two photos from our retreat this weekend. One is of Canandaigua lake on our way home with all the Fall colors. The camera doesn't capture their full glory...they're SO bright!
Thx for the pictures Laurie. We have trees that the leaves turn brown and fall off, if you are lucky enough to have a tree in your yard at all. I was raised in Naples right at the edge of Canandaigua and worked in Canandaigua before I moved west. I do get very "homesick" during the change of seasons and have often asked myself if not having to shovel snow was worth not getting the change of seasons. (Still pondering that.)

One autumn after my dad passed away I was in the Valley visiting my mother. I had walked to the cemetery to visit Dad and the beauty was breath taking, the leaves were so golden they were simply iridescent.

Thx for sharing, I really did enjoy them.

I finally got in to see the endodontist today. He agreed that one root definitely has a problem and needs to be redone. The other root has a metal file broken off in it. He said he will try to get it out but it probably won't be removable. I do remember it happening about 9 or 10 years ago. He also said the root canal next to it needs to be watched and he showed me why on the x-ray.

In any case, his next appt is Nov 4 to remove the root canal and the 11th to do the new one so I'm really glad the pain isn't bad.

Jenskihere 10-15-2008 05:19 PM

Barb, glad to hear your apt went well. You have a metal file in your canal? I know the canal has no feeling now, but can that cause problems??
I'm glad you aren't horrible pain... 11/4 is a while to wait!

I was having a good morning. My pain has gotten much worse this afternoon. So glad I am going in tomorrow. Right now I would love a few shots of Novocain! DH isn't home yet, and I am here alone with my 6yr old ds, otherwise I would take a pain pill right now! I don't like how they make me feel and I would rather have another adult around while the kids are in the house, ya know? He should be home soon (hopefully!!).

The verdict on the tomatillo black bean soup was very positive. We loved it and will definitely make it again. Here's the link http://kalynskitchen.blogspot.com/20...ian-black.html

It was a mellow day at home. My friend has atrial fibrillation apparently. It's scary because suddenly we all seem to be getting old people things  She's doing better today though.

Laurie & others - My first tattoo is a crescent moon with a purple woman symbol hanging off the top corner. It's significant for me and I knew for a long time that's what I wanted. I got a second tattoo the summer before last. This one was created from a photo of Julie's. I have a thing for herons & cranes - they aren't fast or aggressive, but cautious, and patient, and wise. or so I always think :)

Zeff - glad to hear you're settling in. We missed you!

Loriann - Congratulations on getting that scale to move!!

We are off to a birthday/debate party tonight (yes, our friends are political geeks too!). Have a good evening everyone

Barb0522 10-15-2008 07:30 PM

jenski - When they do a root canal they use metal files and I do remember this one breaking off. I do get occasional pain in this tooth but it sounds like that is mostly from the other root. I guess the file would have caused problems years ago if it was going to. My reluctance to wait so long was that I got the old crown removed 9/26 so that is a long time to have a temporary on. And Nov 4th is the week I am primary oncall. I'm trying to get someone to cover my oncall. If I can't then I will need to move all three dental appointments back a week and I really don't want to do that. I've had lots of tooth pain through the years when teeth have cracked or become infected. I guess I should be glad. My parents had dentures before they were my age.

Wow what a day, left here about noon, just got in a little after 8 pm! over 200 in car repairs.... both turn signals (one needed a harness assembly, the other a socket) and a back light lens! I told them I'm tired of supporting them!

Son got his first and only paycheck and spent a hundred at store today (food, cleaning supplies) and I got a good look at his pad.... I told him I wouldn't put any money in that place! It's a sh*t hole (to use his terms)... I had told him I had extra flooring from my kitchen bath project but I don't think I want to give it up for that place :(. oh well.

Wow! Finally done with work.

My workday is 7am to 7pm three days a week. I am a nurse and work in the newborn nursery. A great job, but today was definitely trying. Lots of new ones and a couple that were "misbehaving" that we had to keep our eye on.

Glad to be home and off until Friday!

It's nice to get to meet everyone and get to know all of you. I have been here before but very very briefly. Life was busy at the time and I couldn't keep up with the posts. But I will be much better now!

murphmitch 10-15-2008 09:19 PM

Ohana, I work on a postpartum/well baby nursery unit. Do you work with normal babies or in a NICU?

Ohana4 10-15-2008 09:25 PM

I work in a well-newborn nursery. We do float to NICU once in a while, but we only do the feeder/grower kids. I worked on Couplet (Mother/Baby) care until this February when I moved to a closer hospital within our system, and this one does a separate nursery and postpartum. How long have you done the mother/baby specialty?

murphmitch 10-15-2008 09:35 PM

About 22 years when our unit went to dyad care. Love it. Worked just postpartum as a student & found it rather boring. Went to a med-surg unit for 10 years, then went back when we switched to dyad.

Ohana4 10-15-2008 09:55 PM

That's really nice. Sometimes I miss taking care of my mommies, but I can see how it would become routine to only care for a mom. How many moms/babies do you each take? When I worked at the old hospital, it was 4 couplets to a nurse, even the charge nurse was given that load when needed. Here, we get 6 babies per nurse.

murphmitch 10-15-2008 10:20 PM

Day shift 3 moms/babies. Evenings 3-4. Nights 4-5. Our charge nurses usually don't take patients. Too many deliveries and paperwork. We have 40 beds so we're pretty busy. Over 400 deliveries a month. We do have 2-3 nurses assigned in the nursery, so we rotate through there. We have a transition nursery for new babies, NICU goes to C-sections & high risk deliveries and then transports them to us. I love working in the transition area. Usually babies do well, but it can getting pretty wild in there too! We're supposed to take down to 36 weeks but we get 35 weekers all the time, and it's not unusual to have to transfer them to NICU.

Ohana4 10-15-2008 10:33 PM

Wow, 4-5 on nights? But I guess it's not too crazy when moms are trying to sleep between feedings. I just switched in June from nights to days and I couldn't be happier. I don't think I'm losing much from shift diff. and the benefits of days is so worth it. Just lact. consultants alone are worth their weight in gold, and we don't get them through the night!
Your transition area sounds a lot like our nursery. We get a transition nurse (which I was today) and then pass the babies to the nursery nurse when done. We also are supposed to take the 36 weekers but end up taking 35s. We just had 35.6 twins who came to us. They actually did pretty well and went home today. Of course, they were girls, so they did better anyway. Usually I love to transition. Today we got 7 during my shift (which is probably not much for you, but for a hospital that averages 250 a month, it was a lot :dizzy: ).
Today we had a 35.1, and that guy was the typical wimpy white boy syndrome. Oh well....

murphmitch 10-15-2008 10:41 PM

We're supposed to have a lower weight limit of 4# but have occasionally received a baby smaller than that. I recently had a set of twins and the girl weighed 3-14. Of course she was screaming her lungs off and did great. Her brother was bigger and was on O2 for quite a while. We have talked about taking on an intermediate level nursery where we would keep kids that just needed IV's and more extended O2, but that's on the backburner for now.
