Weekend Chatter - Oct. 4 & 5
Good morning! I "slept in" until six this morning, probably because Disney was left downstairs by mistake. She's too little to crash open the kitchen door. Now we are both coffeed and fed and she's back to sleep on the loveseat. I think she knows the dark green looks good against her white fur!
Finally my cold has decided to really arrive! :) I'm actually relieved as it's been just hovering this week and making me feel not up to scratch. I flaked out with a long nap yesterday afternoon which may have made it decide to get serious. Today will be a ginger tea and Vit. C day with a nap if I can work it in. The PC guru kid is supposed to come at 11, I have yet to plant those mums and need a trip to the dump since I missed pick-up on Thursday. :yikes: Just realized I go to dinner tonight at my sister's place - an early Thanksgiving feast. I'm on the list for a veggie tray with hummus so had better get off my butt and get cracking. What's happening around your Beach towel? :cofdate: |
Good morning! I slept in until almost 7! I needed it, I've been exhausted this week. An easy weekend is planned so far, so I'm hoping to get in a couple naps and just take it easy. I WILL get my mums planted today!
RUTH, baby yourself today with lots of hot tea, and feel better soon. I hope you're well enough to go to your Thanksgiving this evening. |
Good morning Ruth & Disney! Take care of that cold during your busy day. My all time favorite cold remedy is a big pan of hot water steeped with lots of shredded fresh ginger then a fresh lemon squeezed in served with honey. I bet agave would work in this. It really opens everything up and has a comfort food feel.
Not sure what's on my agenda today. DP is doing better but not better enough to go anywhere (we did think about it!). I was relieved to find that the work issue from yesterday did not make it into the online version of the local paper. I've got to pick a paper up to see if it's inside. If not we probably have a reprieve until Monday. It will keep us busy the next few weeks getting info out there and keeping the big picture in focus. Meanwhile it's apple season and I'm going to pick again this weekend :) I'm alternating batches of apples and greens & peppers. It's really chilly here so I'm off to find a bean soup for the weekend and something I can make in the oven. :coffee2: cuppa Fogbuster anyone? *Cottage - a weekend of naps sounds perfect after a busy, stressful week. |
Morning all! It's a nice morning here. I have the back door open so the pups can run in and out. Decided to light a mulling spice candle so it feels more "fallish".
Ruth, hope you are feeling better soon. I've been a bit under the weather with a sinus thing too. The steam yesterday really helped..well that and decongestants! A little eucalyptus in a pot of boiling water helps too..just put your head over it and breath deep! Cottage, send us a pic of those mums when you get them planted! I just love them, but they don't last too long here. I may put some in pots out front, but will probably go with pansies since they last all winter. Cyndi, apple picking sounds like fun. We can't grow them here, so I've never had that opportunity, but I sure eat em!! Got some green apples the other day and man, were they SOUR, but really good. I used to make this fabulous apple tatin with them, but I guess that's out of the question now...maybe for thanksgiving..?? I have no idea what I'm doing today other than posting grades and lesson plans, but hopefully something fun with come along....got my hair colored and nails polished last night, so I'm prepared for anything! I caught the pups chewing on the corner of my computer room/sunroom/den sofa this morning. It is leather and belonged to my parents, so I was not a happy lady. Made a paste of ceyanne and water and put it on the corner of the sofa..they stopped that real fast!!! Poor babies! |
Good morning ladies,
Ruth, I am hovering around a cold as well, so I feel for you. Hope you feel better and have fun at your sister's. Cottage- Glad you got to sleep in today you did have a hectic week. Cyndi- I need to go apple picking and pumpkin picking as well, sounds like fun enjoy. Cat- Those pups are rascals :) Glad you got them to stop chewing on the sofa. As for me, today I am running DD1 and her friends around to get fingernails done, and hair appts for Homecoming Dance tonight. DS is easy he just needs his clothes pressed. We are also trying to figure out what to do for DS his engine needs to be replaced in his Blazer and it is too old so we are trying to figure out what we are going to do. We have a 66 Mustang we are trying to get up and running (sat too long in garage w/o being started up) for him so we may concentrate on it- we have already done the body work so it looks great has new tires just won't run yet. Decisions decisions w/o affecting pocketbook too much yikes!!!! Have a good day everyone |
So is it considered "sleeping in" till 9 if you didn't get much sleep, I mean a headache so bad you ccouldn't sleep. I know it was about 4 when I was still up and down :(.
Ruth! I'll meet you at your sister's, it's up over that hill and around the next corner, right? ;) Cottage. Cyndi, I'll join you for coffee.... and you know apple picking sounds good! I just called my sis and left her a message to see if she and the kids would like to join me! ;) FEMME!!!! What an awesome idea to get the dogs to stop chewing on furniture! I'll remember that for when I get another pup (hopefully Jade will last a LONG time!) pearl have fun with the car. Me, more deep cleaning today. I have to get in my room with the steam cleaner. I know, I live such an exciting life!!!!!!!! ETA: I'm very sad.. After three weeks kitty didn't want to come out of my room, Her "safe haven" cause she didn't like puppy. She was starting to come out, but very cautiously. Anyway, I woke up yesterday eyes swollen shut, and throat so tight I couldn't breath. :(. I found a home for her (much to my dismay). I woke up with just slight symptoms because I have yet to scour the bedroom. But I just got hold of her new mother, and apparently "Tigger" is running the entire house as if she owns it, and getting the resident older cat to play chase! It seems she's happier there. But I do miss her so much! It was a hard decision, but I need to be able to breathe! |
Hi! I slept in until almost 8!!!! I am feeling extremely refreshed this morning, for the first time in a VERY long time. I get to go to the salon today! WOO HOO! Roots be gone! Eyebrows be waxed! I've cut back to going every 2 months instead of every month to save money, and it feels like a splurge every time I go now.
So I've found something that, to a makeup junkie like me, is extremely dangerous. On the Mary Kay website, they have a Virtual Makeover thingy where you upload your picture and then can see what different makeup looks like on you, creating different looks. I spent 2 hours looking at it last night, after I just got a ton of makeup for a new fall/winter look! It's so cool though. It covers eyeshadow combinations, eye liner, lip liner, lipstick, lip gloss, mascara, and blush. I could spend my entire paycheck on it and still want more! I do think I'm going to ask for their microdermabrasion set ($55!!!!!) for Christmas. My consultant gave me a sample of it, and I used it last night. It is SO AWESOME. Well, time to play with makeup a little more and get ready for my appointment. Have a great day chickies! Lisa |
Good morning!
Slept in until 8:30!!!! Today is a very busy day for us, we need to go to the post office, present shopping for my 3 yr old nephew, clothes shopping, and then me and DH are going out for his birthday. Last night was a bad night. We took our DS to a karate place to sign up, and there was a Boston Market next door. Need any more be said? Gained 2 pounds since yesterday. Can't do that EVER again. :( |
TMI< it's been a few years, but the last time I was in a boston market they had nice veggie selection! And while I know they probably don't cook their chicken the way we need, um, it's delicious! As long as you steered clear of the starches? OH, sure, I know they use butter and other things in the veggies, but I could picture worse eating, like nasty BK or MCDs ;).
|
That's true, Lori. McD and BK is FAR worse. Although we DID have some starches, I had mashed potatoes and green beans. I didn't like the taste of the green beans. DH had mac & cheese (*GASP*).
Never again. My weight loss is too important to me to do that again. |
TMI, Just pick up and keep going. And next time (and there will be a next time of eating out) either PLAN to "treat" or make more conscious decisions! ;)... See my thread either one or two pages down "Do you "cheat"." Lots of info from the girls here!
|
:)
Thank you! |
Good Morning All!!! Happy Saturday!!!
Ruth - Sorry to hear that you're getting a cold. I hope it comes and goes quickly and does not linger. Have a lovely dinner tonight with your family. Cottage - Enjoy your easy weekend. Should be nice since you're a lot like me and seem to go and go and go. Enjoy th quiet. Cyndi - Glad to hear that DP is feeling better. One day I want to come out to your side of the states and see what life is like in your neck of the woods. It seems so different than mine. I would love to go pick apples with you. Hope the issues at work get fixed quickly and without too much scrutiny. Cat - Enjoy your days with the puppies. Even though they're chewing everything in sight, it's nice to know that you still think they're adorable. Hope you find something fun to do today! Pearlrose - Have fun getting your kids ready for the dance tonight. Sounds like a lot of fun. Loriann - So sorry that you had to give the kitty away. However, I think Jade is a much happy camper without the little orange fluff. Hopefully you'll feel better soon and will find joy in your pup once again. Lisa - Hey there! Glad to hear that you're feeling better. A hair cut and brow wax sound so good. This is my month to get that done as well. I can't wait. The site you found sounds intriguing. I'm going to have to check it out when I've got some time. tmi - Have fun on your day of errands. I've found that either you love days like that or you can't stand them. I personally enjoy days filled with things to do and lists to make. Be good tonight at dinner with DH. Me - So I'm headed off in 30 min. to an orientation at the House of Blues for a fieldtrip that I'm taking my students on this month. We did the tour last year and it's lots of fun. So I really don't mind spending a couple of hours on a Saturday hearing about what's to be expected. And other than that, we currently have no plans for the rest of the day (which is so not like us). DH is not happy with the way the Angels are playing. Unfortunately I think the Red Socks have our number this cycle and I don't think we're going to get out ahead. Hopefully the hockey season, which starts up tonight, will prove to make him happier. Well, what every you all end up doing today, but sure to find time to enjoy your time with the ones you love. Have a great Saturday!!!! |
TMI, next time ya'll go there, check out the salads and get them to add some turkey...with a vinegarette, you should be good to go. Tell them to hold those damn "craisins" though...loaded with sugar. Little sugar pellets they are!!
|
Thanks Heather, though I never stopped taking Joy in Jade! she's a true companion through and through! I missed my cats, and thought a kitty would be good company for dog, and if I hadn't gotten allergies and one so timid I think it would of worked out! ;).
|
Lori, I'm allergic to cats too - same symptoms as you and who can resist petting a kitty!
The PC guru showed this morning. He looks about 14 although he's nearly finished High School but really seems to know his stuff. He made major apologies about missing the Tuesday appointment. My PC is now squeaky clean and he got rid of lots of extra duplicate programs. Took a daytime Contact C this morning and felt much better so went and did the planting at the Church. Then met the "gang" at the diner for coffee. You have to show up there every so often to keep on top of the rumours. In Delta, if they don't have something to say, they just make something up! Actually one woman is famous for that! I have a turkey leg cooking for sweet potato doggie treats and the start of a lamb pilaf on the go too. I must post that recipe because it's cheap, Phase II compatible and delicious. Now it's off to the dump with the garbage and then I'll do the veggie tray. After that a nice soak in the tub before I go out to dinner. We have a glorious brisk autumn day out there. I hope your weather is as great. |
Hello Everyone,
Hope you all are having a great day so far. Planning on heading out to Sports Authority sometime today and then to Toysrus. Had some beans last night and went up a few this morning. Maybe I had them too late. I had about 1/4 cup. Any suggestions about beans? They were mixed beans. Till next time! Go Rays!:carrot: |
Afternoon, Girls.
Woke up early this morning and went to a city wide garage sale. DH found a really nice cd/dvd cabinet that matches our current furniture and DS found an Elmo toolbench. I just took some chicken out of the fridge to marinate for tonight's satay and I'm pooped. I think I'm going to take a nap....I'm way too crabby to pack right now ;) |
Zeff, how did the cake turn out? Did you ever post pics? I would love to see the finished product. I have done some crazy cakes in the past. I took a class on decorating and made DH and the kids some involved bday cakes. :D
I had a nice surprise yesterday. My neighbor from across the street came by with a plate full of oatmeal cookies. I am usually the baker on the block, and I typically share with them. (Older couple, super nice, LOVE baked goods!). Since starting SB I haven't done any baking (not sharing the bean brownies!). She said that she saw me walking the kids home from school, I looked really tired, wanted to make sure I was feeling OK and share some of her cookies with me. How sweet huh?? Except... now I have this plate of cookies calling my name! I did eat 2 last night. I quickly put the rest in a zip lock bag and hid them in the back of the freezer... It was a great surprise though. |
That is so sweet, Jenny. I'm the baker around here as well...
The cake turned out really great. A lot of people at the restaurant asked me where I got it and when I said that I had made it, they wanted me to make cakes for them. I'm really thinking of starting a little home-based part time cake decorating business. ugh. I'm crabby today. DH is having friends over tonight and with the house in its current state - ripped apart from moving - I just wish they wouldn't come. I really don't feel like cooking or entertaining. Thankfully they are men and the only things they require are a tv and a video game system. DH is grilling so I really don't have to cook. I think I'm going to run out and get some paper plates so I don't have to do dishes either ;) They also don't care about the state of the house, but I just don't like showing it to anybody when it isn't clean. I guess I'm neurotic like that. off to Walmart for paper plates. We're going to be using paper this entire week anyway because of the move. |
  Zeff.. your so right, men only require tv and game systems! Sad though true!
|
*glancing over at Tom, playing his Age of Conan game*
Yep. |
UGH. Clothes shopping was a horror. Couldn't find ANYTHING I liked. I ended up buying a plain black skirt. And a top that doesn't fit right, but didn't realize it until I got home. Guess that'll be going back.
Tonight we're going out to Manhattan for DH's birthday (which is actually tomorrow) to a restaurant/bar. I'll be good tonight, I promise! :) |
Quote:
I asked if I could at least have the stereo tonight so that I could listen to some tunes while I packed...that will be nice. I work much better when I have music. oh my. the chicken satay marinade smells so freakin' good. Coconut milk, curry, turmeric, cumin, and lime. Oh my, oh my, oh my. |
Speaking of men and their stupid videos, I did tell you all about my sister's husband, not getting her anything for her birthday yet wanting to buy one for 30???????????
|
DH's games are usually $60.
Thankfully he doesn't buy them very often. |
Good evening,
I have had two very lovely days. Yesterday was spent in a workshop and I learned alot about lamas. Did you know that they have been domesticated for 6,500 years. Is that longer than dogs? Today, went apple picking, picked a bushed of Macs. Had a picnic with a little bit of French grape juice made it perfect. About three weeks ago I picked Royal Galas and at .49lb that is a bargain. I baked three apple pies and froze them for Christmas and winter. I don't plan to touch them Once I was telling a friend of mine that when I have scraps of dough I freeze them and then make a galette(which is sort of a one crust pie, with the crust folded a bit over the fruit). She told me that her mother use to make this all the time but they called is a Pig's Pie. That sort of put everything in perspective for me. Enjoy this weekend Sophie |
I think I must be the only one who's husband doesn't play video games. Occasionally he will play Tiger Woods golf but not often.
I have also determined that when I have cocktails that I crave carbs. I would kill to eat a Honey Crisp apple tonight in my fridge. But I won't. Having a few cocktails while watching Lifetime is bad enough. |
Zeff, Tommy says to tell your DH that he's on the "Stormrage" server.
yyyyyyyyyyyep. |
Lisa - I love how I have no idea what that means...but as soon as I tell him, he says "gotcha".
Made some spinach and artichoke dip on whim. I can't wait for it to finish baking. Getting ready to watch some mma. mmacaskill - I would kill to eat that Honeycrisp in your fridge. I haven't been able to find them this year. |
Ended up having a great, no wonderful, day today. Terry (DH)and I went to the gym this morning and stayed for a couple of hours. He must have worked out his arms for at least an hour and a half..his arms are already gorgeous. I pooped out after about an hour or so and hit the steam room and shower and got all dolled up with a complete spa day with every kind of skin goop I own (which is a LOT) . We came home and puttered and cleaned. When we left the gym, there was a sign outside that they were having a margaritaville afternoon/evening with a guy playing guitar and singing so we headed back over there around 4 or so and had a couple of margaritas at the bar by the pool and then got an order of humas. Gorgeous afternoon with a cool breeze. Then we headed to another place (where Mandy went on her date last night) sat out on the patio and split a tuna stuffed tomato and had another drink... wonderful afternoon/early evening! I am so lucky to be married to my best friend and it's still magic after all these years. I don't really talk about him that much, but he is beyond cool.
He thanked me over and over again today because I talked him into joining the gym with me. He used to be a real gym rat and had forgotten how much he loved it. I love days that unfold with surprises and no set plans...just going with the flow as the wind blows. I miss having my kids around, but gawd life is easier now and just "fluid"... |
Well my weekend of no plans turned into a last minute softball tourney for Toys for Tot's that DH and DD played in. Double elimination, ugh what a long day for me just watching! Afterwards went shopping to get DD some new tennis shoes and ended up finding a good bargin at JC Penney's on clearance bath towels, the big fluffy ones for 5 bucks! Oh how I love new towels! Only other purchase for me was a clearance nightgown and a new purse which I really needed ;)
DH is watching the cubs game and I am struggling to hold my eyes open, maybe, just maybe I can sleep past 5 am tomorrow. Sounds like everyone is having a great weekend so far. Tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful, I will be able to open the windows again and take on the house cleaning and laundry. I will also bake those sweet potato bars using pumpkin. For now I am just going to settle in bed and watch about 5 minutes tv before my eyes get the best of me. |
Zeff, I had to ask Tommy 3 times what he was saying before I finally typed it. Plus, he made sure that I know it's all one word, not two. I've learned words and phrases like "uber" and "rolling a toon." And God forbid you come between him and his XP, whatever that is.
PS Now I'm going to have to go to the store tomorrow to get stuff for Spinach Artichoke Dip. That sounds delightful! |
It was good, although I accidentally added too much mayo...oh well, extra parmesan and garlic evened it out.
Speaking of "uber"...you'll never guess what DH calls himself online ;) |
Good Sunday morning! I really, really want artichoke dip right now! Maybe later.
Lovely dinner and visiting time with my sister, BIL and her three kids with their kids - minus husbands. It was like old times with babies added. Disney charmed all her new "cousins" and we will have some great pictures. Church this morning and then a peaceful sunny Sunday. I'll do some more cooking, quilt piecing and maybe work in a nap. Hope your day is a good one. Here's a mug of coffee for you. |
What a perfect fall morning! I do love fall though I try not to think too much about what comes after ;)
Ruth - Can't wait to see the pictures. This is perfect baking weather but I haven't really done any baking other than bread since SBD. Do you have any approved favorites? Cat - sounds like a lovely day :) It is nice to finally settle in with the person who fits you just right. Have a relaxing Sunday. Cottage - How is your Dad doing? Same ole on tap for today. More apple picking, more dehydrating, maybe some baking. I have a recipe for crockpot refried beans I'm trying. I love quick and easy refried beans but want to get away from cans. The recipe looks good, hope it is! Julie (DP) is doing better but still in pain. She's eating so I'm not as worried about the blood sugar but we haven't had an uninterrupted night of sleep for a couple of weeks now. And we are talking every hour and a half or so. I'm drinking a lot of coffee. My goal is a relaxing day because it will be a long week at work. Now I'm off to look for SBD friendly baking recipes :) |
Cyndi, I bake but most of it is not SBD friendly. It's usually for gifts or for sales so.... I've never made anything with Splenda as eating sweet treats got me into this mess and I need to just get away from that stuff, SF or not! Let us know how the crockpot refried beans works out - I am trying to get away from canned stuff too.
Just realized that we do the Blessing of the Animals at Church today since yesterday was St. Francis Day. All the dogs will be there which should make for a fun service and a great contrast to last week's production with the Bishop and the Primate. I need to remember doggie treats for coffee hour along with the apple spice cake for the humans. |
Good morning all. I am debating on morning services, Thinking of just going to evening, but I'll likely go to both! I just wish I knew someone!
DS needed a fridge and stove, found both for 40 on craigslist, oh, thats 40 for both, not each! ;). NOw to find a pick up truck! Need to get Jade out for a walk this am. Didn't get out yesterday due to dealing with ds. He came over to borrow steam cleaner, and I had to make sure he knew how to operate, clean and hook everything up! And I stressed to him he was the ONLY one allowed to use it! (I sure hope he listens). Didn't get out apple picking yesterday, will try today. trying to get sis to go along with me, it's boring by myself, but I might have too. |
Morning all! Husband is heading off to work, so I guess I will have a fun day of more cleaning, laundry, puppy patrol and grade posting. wooooo.
Also going to make a pot a spaghetti sauce to go over zuchini "spaghetti". That way I don't have to cook tomorrow when I get home. I think every muscle in my body is sore this morning, but in a good way. At least I know I hit those muscles yesterday and Friday. ouch, great ouch! Hope everyone has a relaxing or exiting Sunday...whatever you are wishing for! |
Ruth - I like your take on the sweet treats. I whole heartedly agree.
Cat - I think after we move, I'm going to get the shredder machine that you're always talking about. You make it sound so cool! Can it do other vegetables or just zucchini? Lori - Don't you LOVE craigslist? I'm completely addicted to that and freecycle. I check it every day. Have fun apple picking. I need to find an orchard that is closer to us...the closest one I've found so far is over an hour away :( -- DS requested french toast this morning - I can finally use up that loaf of challah that I have in the freezer. I woke up to a wet bed in the middle of the night. I was completely confused and thought either I or DH had wet the bed  turns out my boobs are used to this having a baby thing and started leaking more. Oy. Just packing today... |
