Tuesday Chick-Chat

My coffee's tasting weak this morning, anyone want to share a cup of yours with me?

I'm expecting a call from Cindy to see if I have to go over there early. Yeserday, she tracked me down at the hairdresser to ask me to come over as soon as possible, as Maggie was home with a fever. We let it do it's thing, and it was gone by noon and she was feeling just fine, but you never know. The girls have the holiday off today, and they're supposed to go on the fox hunt if no one is sick, so I won't have to go over until around 10 or so.
And while we were at the dentist, my mother called to say my dad had been admitted to the hospital. They were doing tests on him, but it seems he has a combination of bronchitis and pneunomia. I talked to him on the phone last night, and he sounds just awful but is feeling better. We'll find out more today, and just how long he'll be in.

It's looking to be a nice day, so I hope we can get outside and go on a scavenger hunt this afternoon. I have a real cute project of making critters out of pine cones and acorns, and I think the girls will enjoy doing that. Or, we may go to the orchard for apple picking. :)

RUTH, you were right about what a cotillion is.

Ruthxxx 09-30-2008 06:09 AM

I'm passing a mug of good coffee through the screen atcha. We NEED good coffee! Your yesterday sounds frenetic. I hope your Dad feels better fast.

Chance of rain in the forecast today - 30% is a mere piffle. Disney and I are going to do some running around this morning. (She adores car trips!) I didn't make it to town yesterday so will do that, track down some mums and visit the apple orchard. I do want to dry some apples for quick oatmeal in winter - not that it takes that long to chop an apple but... I'll use the guard on the slicer this time as my thumb "wound" is healing nicely. It's amazing how much we heal in two weeks.

I have a computer geek coming later this afternoon to do fall housecleaning on my PC. He's the son of my PC guru Karen and a really nice kid. I may ask him about checking my DVD player which I've yet to use more than once.

Time for some breakfast. Eggs and spinach anyone? Maybe with sliced tomato?

femmecreole 09-30-2008 06:15 AM

Morning Ladies. I can share mine too..hot and strong with chickory!! I'm on my 2nd cup.

Cottage, keeping your Dad in my thoughts.

Hope you both get all your runnning done today. Sounds like a busy one. Nothing fun here. Just school. But you never know what the day will bring!

Mama dog just opened the french doors leading from this room to the hallway and the puppy girls went running after her. A minute later they were back in here and all chewing on something. I looked over and thought "where in the world did they find an ace bandage?" I looked closer and it was my bra. joy.

CyndiM 09-30-2008 06:59 AM

Morning Chicks :coffee2: Some Fogbuster heading your way Cottage :)

Looks like I'm going to use a sick day to stay home and keep an eye on DP (I've got around 60 so that's not a problem). She started getting sick again Sunday and is having a rough day so may need a ride to the dr. or even the hospital. We're playing it by ear until the office opens and hoping it will pass :(

Cottage - Sounds like things are very hectic! Hope your Dad is improving.

Ruth - It does get easier to use the mandolin. I've cut my finger a few more times but just little cuts. If I used the guard I probably wouldn't have any but it annoys me so I'm still resisting. It does make the apples more uniform and they dry better.

Cat - Sounds like never ending puppy entertainment! Nice of mom to teach the babes all the important stuff ;)

Not sure what my day is going to look like but I might be around later. Have a good fall day.

mandyleigh 09-30-2008 07:02 AM

Morning everyone!

Cottage...keeping your dad in my thoughts for a speedy recovery!

Ruth...breakfast sounds great! The trip to the orchard sounds amazing...I've never actually been before!

Cat....pass over a cup of that coffee and chickory...can't beat it!

Cyndi...hope all turns out well with DP.

As for me...nothing much...I'm pooped this morning for some reason. Took the hounds to the lakefront in mandeville for a nice loooooong walk. Met up with a friend...good evening...just longer than usual!

Happy Tuesday!

ladybugnessa 09-30-2008 07:53 AM

Pearlrose 09-30-2008 07:55 AM

Good morning,

Quick flyby at work! Hope everyone has a good day.

Loriann7 09-30-2008 08:21 AM

(((Cottage))) so sorry to hear about your dad! Keep us posted! Have fun hunting for cones and/or apples, whatever you decide!

Ruth, thanks, I have egg muffins with spinach in the fridge, but I think I'm going to have left over Parmesian Tilapia, that was DELICIOUS! I had two fillets for dinner last night! I need to get to town to pick up more Tilapia (along with a few other things) but not sure I'll do it today!

Femme, I think your two pups are more trouble than my one kitty!!!! Enjoy them! ;)

((Cyndi)) let us know about DP. (who's DP?)

 Mandy! Nessa! Pearl!

Me: I also have hot coffee from a coffee maker that was cleaned (self cleaned) four times last night! The taste is awesome! I love CuisineArt!

Woke up with lower back pain. I even soaked in the tub last night after my walk because I was feeling it in my legs and back! I will be doing some stretches today and soaking in another tub this morning to help relax the muscles. Took Jade for a walk last night, left the leg weights home, but did use the wrist weights! Only 3 lbs each arm...

Last night h ad kitty out in my arms on the couch, Jade was a little jealous, but kitty was still purring. (usually when she sees puppy she stops her motor). She eventually got down and went into the kitchen to investigate. I made Jade sit next to me to give her space. She walked up toward (not close) Jade and arched her back, but then walked away. When she went where Jade couldn't see her jade went into kitchen to find her, kitty had gone under the stove!!! I had to get down there and call her out! she inched out to just beyond my reach and layed there, as if to say "ha!" I eventually got her out. she layed a bit more in my arms before dashing (when Jade was preoccupied with eating) for "her" room. But I left the gate down till I went to bed, and Jade pretty much left out of the room, only going in for a brief moment! I think kitty is warming up to idea of the big bad wolf!!!!!

Got a lot done yesterday, Have a lot more to do. Have my mechanic pricing the lens that was broken by the idiot that backed out. His insurance offered to pay half, which is cool, because my deductible is 500! I doubt the lens will be but about 40, the labor to put in I dunno, we'll see.

KO 09-30-2008 08:44 AM

Morning Ladies:
I'll be snagging any extra coffee around the tea is NOT cutting it this AM!
I'm a human barometer and am feeling the rain.
In Psycho Kitty news! I made a super yummy dinner last night and didn't get to eat it. I had heated up some Shiratake noodles in the micro in a glass bowl it was on the kitchen table near something that had String. The new kitty pulled the string knocked over the bowl and glass flew all over my kitchen! needless to say Dinner went to the garbage and it was cold pizza for us!
Loriann do you have one of those microwaveable heat wraps they help a lot!
Nessa I'll take a triple! :coffee:
Mandy that sounds so nice!
Cynd take care of DP and Take care of you!
Femme LOL! sounds like my house this AM Psycho Kitty chased bras and socks all over the top floor!
Ruth! I'm moving in with you! both for breakfast and dried apples! CAn DH come He's super techie!
Cottage Our prayers are with your Dad! Your day sounds fun!!
bbiab

Pacergal29 09-30-2008 08:55 AM

Good Morning. It's a nice day out there, would be great for apple picking! I would much rather do that than face this day. Won't bore you, but after yesterdays bad news in the market and this darn bailout plan going nowhere fast I am getting a bit concerned for my job. Not real sure what the answer is to be honest. It's a very helpless feeling just sitting here and waiting. Certainly not trying to stir up any political trouble, just telling where I am in my life at the moment.

Cottage Hope your dad is better real soon.

Everyone else Hello and hope you all have a great day.

GONNABE165 09-30-2008 08:56 AM

Happy Tuesday!

Cottage a  for you and prayers for a speedy recovery of yor dad

Vacation wasn't to bad as I seemed to be down .4 on the scale so I'll take that as a loss.

Tonights biggest loser and I can't wait!

Still playing catch up so gotta run - Have a great day!

hmacneil6 09-30-2008 09:18 AM

Good morning ladies! Happy Tuesday!
Cottage - Hope everything goes ok for your dad. Sending prayers up for a quick recovery.

Ruth - Enjoy your time with Disney today. So nice that she's well behaved in the car.

Cat - OK....the visual is too cute, frustrating I'm sure, but cute.

Cyndi - It took a minute to figure out what DP stood for...I kept thinking "dear pet". Hope she's feeling better soon, and if you have to, I hope the dr.'s visit helps.

Mandy - Glad to hear that you enjoyed your walk. How's the pup that hurt himself last week? I hope his leg is feeling better and a visit to the vet was NOT in order. Good luck on your meet-ups this week ;)

Nessa - Good morning. Have a good day at work!

Pearlrose -

Loriann - Glad to hear that kitty and Jade are getting along more. Before you know it, I'm guessing they're going to be the best of friends.

KO - Bummer about your dinner last night. Hopefully tonight will be a little better.

Stephanie - Hope all is well with the job in the coming days. Hang in there!

Gonnabe - Great job of actually loosing while on vacation!!! Enjoy Biggest Looser tonight!

Me - So yesterday was totally crazy. I woke up late, didn't get to exercise. Got in to work and virtually no down time until 1:00. My office is currently a disaster area and yet I don't have time to clean it. I also totally forgot about a breakfast that I was to go to last week. I'm so looking forward to finding someone to fill this lunch lady position.
Dinner was good last night and the quinoa pudding was really yummy (think a cross between rice pudding and koogle). I'm taking a piece for breakfast this morning. Tonight I'm getting stuff together for the USO Celebrity Golf Tournament that I'm working at tomorrow. I'm one of two in charge of the gift baskets and raffles. Looking forward to having the day off.
Have a fantastic Tuesday, ladies!!!!
ENJOY!!!

zeffryn 09-30-2008 09:38 AM

Morning ladies. Time to get breakfast on the table before DH leaves for work.

His 30th birthday is coming up on Thursday and I absolutely HAVE to get some shopping done today. One batch of fondant that I made for his cake didn't turn out to be the color I wanted, so I need to go get some black paste color to darken it.
Also, I need to get to Best Buy for typical man gifts - video games. My DH's birthday list looks like a 15 year old's.

Enjoy your day, ladies!

I knew I would confuse people but I've been trying to find something to use other than her name. I remember Jen used DW but we're in the wrong state for that unfortunately, and GF just doesn't quite do it. Glad it isn't impossible to parse :)

We are going to the Dr. in a couple of hours. I'd be less concerned if she weren't diabetic but that combined with the stomach thing is disconcerting.

Hope you're going to share that recipe! It sounds yummy. Sounds like you could use some down time today - maybe a bubble bath?

Loriann - Careful with those weights while walking. If you don't have really good ab muscles your back could be carrying most of that weight. Maybe take a couple of days without the weights? Two really broken discs has made me extra paranoid about abs and posture - suck the belly in, pull the shoulder blades back (or boobs out depending on your perspective ;)), head up. Apparently it doesn't look as silly as it feels!

Pacer - Hope things settle down soon. It's got to be stressful in the industries directly affected.

Kierie- that must have scared everyone! Glad it was just messy. What do you use those noodles for? We have them in the house but I've never actually tried them.

Thanks for all the well wishes. You Chicks are the best!

Loriann7 09-30-2008 09:58 AM

Cyndi, On= the ankle weights I took all but two out (there's six packs) in them, and have only used them the one day. The wrist weights do not have that ability, but I believe I'm alright with them. As for the posture, funny you should mention it! Yesterday as I was walking I was doing my pilate's breathing to regain my posture! Ithink part of my problem is I spent the entire day cleaning, mopping on hands and knees, etc. It's been awhile since I have done that deep down cleaning due to not feeling well and i think my body was feeling it. The back muscles sometimes get aches. It's a good sign I believe, as USUALLY I get it when I start getting up in weight, as in 190s... and that reminds me "hey, your letting yourself go too much"... I've had back problems for years, but it's MILD and I have certain stretches I do. I got down and did them this morning, got up and was fine!!!! But I WILL be careful with the weights! I figured I'd alternate walks with and without them, and when I do use them to use one or the other, not both, at least not yet! I'm taking it SLOW!

Thanks for your advice, it is heeded!!!!!!!!!!!\

Zeff, happy birthday to dh... I was upset yesterday when I found out my sister's husband didn't gett her not even a card for her birthday last week (the 24th)... yet Sunday when they went to the mall he wanted to spend $50 on a video game and a mouse! but I had to bite my tongue, as DS knows how her husband and I feel about one another. I TRY not to comment when she tells me these sort of things. (I DID say something when he refused to get a job and she was working two jobs and going to school full time, and he refused to help around the house or with the kids!)... I reminded her (since he CLAIMS to be a Christian) that he's worse than an infidel! (thats scripture, and she agreed) (oops)

GONNABE165 09-30-2008 10:17 AM

Zeff I know what you mean about the 15 year old's gift list - my dh will be 43 in November and all he ever wants for anniv, birthday and especially christmas is video games, remote control something or another and electronics and like a kid he fowns when he gets clothes. The saying is true men never grow up

KO 09-30-2008 10:19 AM

Lori sounds like BIL needs a slap with an aluminum bat!
Cynd Thus far I have used them in place of pasta as logn as you rinse them reallly well they don't have a funny smell and 1 min in the micro or 3 in boiling water and they're done!
Zeff I think all men stop maturing at around 12-15 its just the way it is! take a pic of the cake when it's done!

zeffryn 09-30-2008 10:32 AM

We may have found a new place...yay! It is a bit outside of Lafayette...but on a route that would be easier for DH to drive to school in the fall. It's a condo, but two floors with 3 br/2 ba and a loft area. The kitchen is really cute (with recovered barn wood cabinets  - a little on the small side, but more open than our kitchen now. All BEAUTIFUL wood floors, cathedral ceilings, TONS of windows and natural light, two decks (a walk out on the lower level and another connecting two bedrooms). Large dining room area with a stained glass window. The only unit connected to it is a smaller one bedroom/1 floor condo that has a college girl living in it. The yard is really large and would hold DS' jungle gym perfectly. The landlord was very open to the idea of me having a garden (he said I have to share with him and his wife though ;)) and was happy to hear that we are a young couple. It is well within our budget (!!) as well. The only thing I'm NOT too happy with is the fact that if we do rent it, we're going to have to pay two house notes until we either rent this house or sell it. It is also about 400 sf. bigger than this house and with two floors should feel bigger.

We're going to take a second look at it today and if we still like it, fill out the application and pay the deposit. It's almost impossible to find affordable places to rent that aren't in a big apartment complex and with the location and price, we have to move on it immediately.

Loriann7 09-30-2008 10:36 AM

KO: you have NO idea how much I'd love to see that man get a good A-- beating to get some sense into him! If I thought that would help I'd have my ex or one of his bro's do it (and yes, they would)... He did something several years ago that has caused **** for my sister, including not being able to get a decent job (can't go into details)... You have NO idea how frustrating it is to have to watch her go through some of the things she does. I guess one good thing is she SAYS he's stopped beating on her!

Zeff, I'm sitting here drooling over your new prospective house!

Heather, how much does the position pay? You know I've been looking!!!!! LOL

Fat Melanie 09-30-2008 11:43 AM

Hi everyone. It has rained today but I'm going to get lots done. Cleaning, laundry, and ROACH EXTERMINATION!!!!! :D

Personals in order of appearance:
Cottagebythesea, have fun today, and I hope everything is okay with your dad!

Ruthxxx, have fun with Disney today and take care of that thumb.

Femmecreole, sorry about your bra! It did give me a chuckle though. Cute pups.

CyndiM, is DP dear pet? I hope she is okay! Oh, dear partner! I just read some following posts where Hcmacneil was confused as well. Sorry about that, Cyndi. I hope DP gets well very soon. :)

Mandyleigh, have a good Tuesday.

Lady Nessa, have fun at work.

Pearlrose, have a good day at work.

Loriann, take care of that back. And kitty sounds adorable.

KO, hehe, sorry to hear about your dinner! Cats are insane but I love 'em.

Pacergal, I hope everything's okay with your job.

Gonnabe165, congrats on the loss!

Hcmacneil, have fun at the tournament. What is koogle?

Zeffryn, happy birthday to DH. Laughed out loud about this: "Also, I need to get to Best Buy for typical man gifts - video games. My DH's birthday list looks like a 15 year old's." Ah, men. All the ones I know (adult men) want xbox 360s so I know what you mean.

Loriann again, oh men like that really make me angry! And Zeff the new prospective place sounds really cool.

Everyone who hasn't posted yet, have a wonderful Tuesday!

Well, I've got roach balls to make to throw under the fridge and in cabinets (trying to get rid of these pesky things for good!), DOOL to watch at 1pm, dishes to wash and counters and floors to clean. I'm just going to hang out awhile with some coffee to perk me up first, watch my soap and then get going. Since I'm putting it off until 2, I've got some time to relax. :D Have a good day everyone.

Loriann7 09-30-2008 11:49 AM

Mel: Those things are almost impossible to get rid of. Thank God I've not had to deal with them in my adulthood, but my DS has, and my mother did when we were growing up... research, I truly doubt a few "roach balls" are going to cut it! I believe you have to fumagate! AND it means washing all clothes, as just one egg dropped somewhere, like on y our shoe, will cause them to come back with a vengeance!

Barb0522 09-30-2008 12:28 PM

I took some Advil earlier and the tooth that had the crown removed (and is infected) is feeling better. I can't get in to see the endodontist this week and next week would be right after the upgrade so I'm waiting until the 15th. I'm postponing the decision on what to do with the other crown until after I see how much this costs. It looks like insurance won't pay for the other one as it isn't 7 years old so I might ask my dentist if there is any way to just repair it. From the xray he showed me I doubt it.

Robert called last night to make sure Brian got the message about where he is. I looked it up today and it is a nursing home rather than a hospital. I think we will visit tomorrow even though that means he doesn't get to sell popcorn. There wouldn't be time today before his patrol meeting (unless I get off work early - maybe I'll try that).

hmacneil6 09-30-2008 12:30 PM

Mel - Koogle (actually spelled Kugel) is a dish I have had from my Jewish friends that is like a custard noodle bake. It can be sweet often has rasins in it. It's made most of the time from egg noodles but can also be made w/ potatoes as well.

a few years back we had friends who were homeless stay with us for two weeks.

it took me a year of twice daily spraying (a can a day half in the morning half at bedtime) to get rid of the damn roaches.

ladybugnessa 09-30-2008 12:35 PM

kugel... was NEVER one of my favorite foods. not sweet or savory unless it's potato kugel. i just never liked noodle kugel. now Kishka is yummy.

Fat Melanie 09-30-2008 12:57 PM

Loriann, I agree with you completely that it's nearly impossible to get rid of those nasty creatures. We have fumigated 3 times and what happened was, when we came back in the house they just all lay stunned on the floor! They lived through it!! Ick! I keep hearing about boric acid and how it's one of the most effective roach killers, because not only will they ingest it, but it will get on their bodies and they carry it back to their homes, poisoning the others, plus when they die the other roaches will eat their bodies and die too. There's a recipe for roach balls using flour, sugar to attact them, mixed with boric acid. I'm going to try it at least because we bought Roach Pruf boric acid and it was on the expensive side. I'm very wary of spraying poisons in here because of DS and the kitties so the I'm gonna try the balls.

Unfortunately, these things were already here when we moved in. The landlord's daughter used to live here and she has since moved in next door. She told me they could never get rid of them.. Here's hoping that we will! I've never lived in a place with roaches before.

Barb, good luck with the tooth! Have fun with the visit, hope he is in a happy and non-combative mood. :)

Hcmacneil, that dish sounds really interesting. I never would have imagined a sweet dish made with noodles!

KO 09-30-2008 12:59 PM

I love Potato Kugel and Kishka and (pardon my spelling) chulent
I'll be going to Nessa's now!

Fat Melanie 09-30-2008 01:02 PM

So what is Kishka? Sounds interesting.

Anyway, DOOL time! Then cleaning time! Have fun everyone. :)

GONNABE165 09-30-2008 01:17 PM

Melanie as far as roaches go especially a german roach they are hard to deal with. i worked for a pest control co for 5 years and my dh has been in the business for many many years - they come in from all areas and they mulitply real fast. few suggestions leave no dirty dishes, no paper bags magazines or piles of paper laying around seal up doors and windows and tell your landlord he needs to have a company treat both places if you ever want to get a "healthy" handle on them

Well the day is looking much more promising, thank goodness, things are finally moving. This is a normal trend for us, but everything going on just makes you a little anxious when things start to stall out. Looks like I have 2 closings coming up before the end of the week.

Since we are on a pet kick around here I thought I would share a pic I took of my fur kid the other night, yeah he could stand some 3FC intervention but he is cute none the less. Everyone meet Reggie, Reggie, Everyone. :D

Mfit4Me 09-30-2008 01:45 PM

Afternoon Ladies,

Feeling a little under the weather today. I think I'm getting what my DS has. He picked something up at his playgroup. I took something and am going to lay down.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

ladybugnessa 09-30-2008 02:05 PM

oh CHOLENT.. my first MIL made the best Cholent... (a bean stew served mostly on sabbath afternoon for lunch)

kishka literaly means 'insides" or guts... it's NOT beachy. there is NO way to make it healthy as it's matzo meal (flour) and smaltz and onions fried up and stuffed into a membrane

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaszanka

KO 09-30-2008 02:34 PM

Stephanie I made COoing noises at your doggies pic! My coworkers think I'm wierd. . .And they're right!
Nessa I would have it post shabbos when I stayed with friends for the weekend
Color me Shabbos goy!
Mfit Feel better hon!

Fat Melanie 09-30-2008 02:35 PM

Gonnabe165, thanks for the great advice! I appreciate it very much. :)

Oh Pacergal, Reggie is precious!

Mfit4me, please get well soon. :)

Lady Nessa, I think I'll stay away from that Kishka! Interesting article though. Is the cholent beachy? I need to start incorporating more beans into my diet. I'll google it.

So I've yet to start my cleaning but I wanted to check my email and share a cute little story, it made me smile:

After Days Of our Lives, me and DS were laying on the bed while I finished my coffee. One of the black kittens jumps on the bed. I think I've mentioned before how much he loves them. He turned his head towards it, grabbed at it, and starts playing with it. It rolled on its back kicking its little feet and opening its little mouth but was gentle, it didn't try to bite or scratch. DS started laughing really hard and smiling... It in turn made ME smile. He loves them more than his inanimate toys. And the added benefit is, he learns to love animals at a very young age! One day I've gotta take a picture. I'm feeling like a very proud mommy right now.

Anyway, I've gotta go clean for real this time. :D Have a good rest of the afternoon and evening everyone!

Ruthxxx 09-30-2008 02:37 PM

Jewish haggis! I cant stand it either.

Very annoyed as I just went to lay out my quilt top and am short two blocks. Grrrr! Next quilt top, I'll supply my own fabric so I have lots. This is going to be a challenge!

Fat Melanie 09-30-2008 02:45 PM

Good luck on the quilt!

KO 09-30-2008 02:54 PM

Greetings Chickies, I am happy to say I met my Oct exercise goal (1500 minutes) and doubled my weight loss goal (lost 10) so I'm a HAPPY camper...lol

Fat Melanie 09-30-2008 06:32 PM

Happy1025... CONGRATULATIONS!!! Now that's some inspiring news! :D

mandyleigh 09-30-2008 08:59 PM

Hcmacneil - thanks for asking..Nellie is doing fine and didn't require a visit to the vet...thank goodness!! I'm guessing she just twisted or popped something out of place because there was a very loud POP when she rolled over one time...and that seemed to do the trick.

Haven't had any of the meetups yet...I've been either not in the mood or worked till way too freakin late to even want to bother! Maybe later in the week!

Zeff - that place sounds adorable!!! And the landlord sounds pretty reasonable as well! Good luck!!!!
