Um, what class is it?
I see you are in Baltimore, are you in college? I went to UMBC.

mel - the ruffle goes under the mattress. Your thought that BF didn't know how to use it was probably right . Also, if your DS can roll over by himself...he is pretty much out of the high risk category for SIDS.
Argh, I read your post so I went and tried it and the part, the patterned part won't go through... or I'm still doing it wrong.. the springboard part is screwed in and I don't see a slot to put the decorated part through. What am I doing wrong?

Quote:

That being said....bumpers are nice....for looks. We had a breathable bumper, not quite as cute but kept his little feet inside the crib. They should also have ties that tie in the middle slats as well as to the four corners....yours didn't?
Yep, it's got parts to tie to the middle slats. We did the 4 posts part first, and then when we got to that part, the left side was puffed out whereas the other parts fit firmly against the inside. It's almost like the bumper is a bit too long or something, or I'm doing it wrong (which is more likely.)

Quote:

As for taking the baby out of the crib every time he cries....you are setting yourself up to get burned, dear. He is going to need to put himself to sleep by himself eventually....you do NOT want to end up with a two year old who can't go to sleep by himself. A friend's child has to be rocked to sleep every night and it can take hours. You are not mistreating him by leaving him in the crib to cry himself to sleep...he is old enough to do so. You would be teaching him independence..a vital skill for toddler-hood. If you absolutely must calm him - don't take him out of the crib, go into his room, pat his back until he calms down and keep telling him that it is time to sleep...it might take a bit, but he'll learn to calm down on his own and won't learn that if he cries hard enough - he don't have to go to sleep. Even 8 month old babies know how to manipulate and it won't get better as they get older if you set the precedent now.
That little manipulative baby... he's sitting there smiling at me now with his big blue gerber-baby eyes but I know he's plotting things. Hehehe. But I admit, I don't take him out of stuff everytime he cries. He, pre-crib, would cry sometimes about being put in the bassinet, but we would let him cry it out. It's the crib thing, though, he hates it and he just won't stop. Normally he will fall asleep after awhile but with the new crib experience, he doesn't stop. I definitely don't plan on doing this every night.. definitely don't want a 2 year old who has to be in the bed with us. Normally, with the bassinet, this little projection thing we have that plays music would help. While he was in the crib, this was uneffective. I imagine with the crib we'll have to Ferberize him.. His screams last night were those of a prehistoric pterydactyl. I don't know what he doesn't like about it, but he despises it. Poor baby! (manipulative little baby. Heheh.)

Loriann, I keep meaning to track my calories but keep forgetting! It was a pain the other week when I would try to prepare my meals and then have a little notebook and pen, reading the labels and writing down everything. It definitely is an eye opener though. I tend to overeat because portion sizes just don't do it for me.

Mel as a young mother who had no clue what she was doing I made a HUGE disaster with my first born of bedtime routines. When my second was born I regreted it to no end. It took weeks of sitting by his bed, at the end of his bed, at the door and then outside the door before that child would goto sleep at night. Trust me when I say you don't want to start bad habits. In the long run it will be much more painless for both of you to get it right now. The hardest thing about being a parent is knowing when your love for them is actually hurting them, and it doesn't get any easier the older they get.
I hear ya. Definitely don't want to face the experience you had, but it was definitely a learning experience I'm sure. I've done the whole tough-love thing with his bassinet and with his tummy time as of late, ever since going to the doctor the other week. She wants him to be on his tummy time 4 hours a day so we've been unrelentless.

Now the crib, that was a one night deal only.. Tonight I'll find some earplugs and ignore the wails and warbling. He seriously sounds like a little dinosaur.. and he can screaaaam!

BF says he is spoiled.

I DO track what I eat... I DO I DO I DO! Every packet of splenda.. glass of water... everything I put in my mouth. I use my-calorie-counter.com.. they have way more stuff than fitday in their database.

Breakfast was 2 eggs and some broccoli...

lunch is an apple with peanut butter...

Dinner will be baked chicken and veggies... ceasar salad.

snacks will be Walker Diet shakes... I discovered vanilla with 1/2 teaspoon of SF white chocolate pudding.

Fat Melanie 09-24-2008 02:16 PM

I got way too frustrated with Fitday the last time I used it so I refuse to use it now.

Does anyone watch Days of our Lives? Nicole is sooo pregnant with EJ's baby. I hate soaps. That's the only one I watch, since I discovered it as a child during summer vacations.

Brenda, what an adorable picture. :)

BrendaS104 09-24-2008 02:20 PM

thanks :) My babies. :sniff:

Loriann7 09-24-2008 02:28 PM

I can't stand soaps... I grew up watching the ABC lineup, way back when Luke and Laura had to hit the road (anyone remember that song?).. I watched them a few times as an adult, but I don't even bother turning the tv on before 8!

Fat Melanie 09-24-2008 02:38 PM

Adorable babies, are they twins?

Hahah Loriann, soaps can be pretty vomitous at times. Especially the long drawn out love scenes, which are getting racier... on DOOL a few months ago, there was a scene between two young characters who were 'getting it on' and it even showed, in a way, without showing actual parts of nudity, the position and everything.. I don't want to say too much and break the rules of the forum and offend anyone so I'll leave it to everyone's imaginations! But, there was one part towards the end where the girl character's fingers interwined in the blanket and squeezed really hard to indicate orgasm.. at least I think.... uhhh.. It was funny.

But nowhere near appropriate for kids during the summertime.

I can't stand any other soap except for Days and if I hadn't been watching it since I was a tween, I probably wouldn't be able to stand it either. I mainly don't watch Daytime TV except for it, but once in awhile I'll catch the Tyra Banks show or Dr Phil.

Loriann7 09-24-2008 02:58 PM

TV has gone downhill... whatever happened to the days of Father knows best? MASH, ARchie, Leaveit to beaver, Ma and Pa kettle? Waltons? hhmmmm, no wonder I'm considered a class all by myself!

Fat Melanie 09-24-2008 03:11 PM

Hah, the Waltons! I used to watch old re-runs of a child. I used to be in love with Johnboy. My dad told me at the time that it was eery because when the show still played, my grandfather, who died 3 months before I was born, was a huge fan of it. And there he found me watching old reruns. Which, I don't think there was anything supernatural about it, but a coincidence... that and plus how many friggin people watched reruns of the Waltons? It was a really good show.

But Mash.. urggh nooooo. My Dad used to watch that and we hated it. I think it was the reruns because this was in the 90's and the show had been off air by then, right? BF is always waxing nostalgic about old shows such as that as well.

I think I'm going to get my mom's digital camera next time I see her so I can post a pic or two of my little boy. We've got some earlier pictures but we haven't taken pictures of him in a few months and we need to document his growing up!!

Jenskihere 09-24-2008 03:18 PM

Mel - grab that camera!! You don't want to miss out on these days. Some of my favorite pictures were the days we were playing with the camera at home.

Mel, I'm addicted to Days Of Our Lives, so is my mother and brother. We all just record to DVR and watch em that way so we can fastforward the commercials.. I HATE commercials.

Fat Melanie 09-24-2008 03:28 PM

Plus, Jenksi, I can't wait til my son is 20 with a girlfriend and I can drag out his baby pics to torment him. :D hehehe. Especially one I have of him on Easter in a baby blue knitted BONNET and sweater my great-aunt made for him. Bwhahhahaha. Plus, if I take a good one of him and me, I'm gonna post it here so everyone can see him!

Jelly, I hate commercials too. It seems when something is getting interesting, they go to commercial. Do you think Nicole is preggo? Have you noticed how she keeps getting sick and having to run to the bathroom?

Plus Trent Robbins is the most evillest, baddest mofo ever... The actor himself is one of the best I've seen on a soap. His facial expressions of disgust, anger, hate, and just pure evilness are supreme. I'm thinking they're gearing up to kill him off and then there'll be a 'whodunnit' mystery between the characters Max, Nicole, Melanie.. (I think it's so cool how they have a character with my name now... yay!) They keep alluding to his inevitable murder.

And EJ, I'm got a crush on him. My BF doesn't know and would be jealous.

zeffryn 09-24-2008 03:30 PM

Mel - the decorated part of the ruffle goes on the inside of the slat part - I just checked DS' crib and there is a small slit in between the board that holds the mattress and the sides - maybe 1/2". Our crib definitely isn't ancient and I know they haven't changed in the past few years as DS2's crib that we just bought isn't any different.

The bumper might be a little big, but you have to tie each tie in sequence, you can't tie all the 4 corners and then the middles because it won't line up. Just do it in a line. and adjust as you go. They are made for the average size crib.

About the cries - they won't last long. When he gets the point that you two aren't going to come in to "rescue" him...it won't take long for him to hush. I think DS' longest session of crying was 25 minutes - sure it was 25 minutes of ****, but we could tell by his cry that he was pissed about having to go to sleep. There is only so much you can do after you make sure all of his immediate needs are met. Obviously if he is sick, teething, or actually needs something (water, change, etc.), go get him....but if not - it won't hurt him to let him cry. He is probably just annoyed at the change, especially to a bigger bed (which can make babies feel less secure). Does he still enjoy being swaddled? That might help with his security issue.

DS moved from our room in a bassinet into his room into a crib at 1 month. Best move we ever made. We never slept when he was in our room!! He went from waking every 2-3 hours to sleeping through the night in two weeks. We'll probably do the same with DS2. I read a great book about scheduling that REALLY helped and gave me perspective called Baby Wise (I'm currently reading the toddler edition). If you can, try checking a copy out at the library. They offer great advice.

--

Geez. Soap Operas....I watched Passions for like, 2 weeks in college. I've just never been able to get into them....although I do find it slightly amusing how you can miss years of a show and know completely what is going on after one episode. That is deep writing, right there.

LOL, ya I think Nicole is preg too.. it's obvious. E.J. is cute isn't he, lol.. and max well my mom and I think he's gay in real life, I kinda like Nick, he's cute too.

Pacergal29 09-24-2008 03:33 PM

Oh somebody please put me out of my misery right now. I am trying to get a call through to the FHA office in Atlanta and have been on hold for 18 minutes now.

Oh a human, only to tell me I was put through to the wrong department.....25 minutes later! Please hold while I transfer you..........we are not available, please leave a message!

Thank gosh there is no chocolate near by! Excuse me while I go bang my head against a brick wall.

Fat Melanie 09-24-2008 03:49 PM

Thanks Zeff, when baby boy is up from his nap I'm going to go try that out with the ruffle thingy. And then the bumper! Hopefully I'll get it right this time. The stuff is waaaay too cute not to use.

Yay, when I put him down for his nap, I didn't hear a peep out of him. He's still really quiet back there. But swaddling, he hasn't been swaddled since he was really young because he's very active and kicks stuff like that off. He also dances to music by kicking his right leg... irrelevant but really, really cute. It was a good idea to move your DS out of the room. Babies make so much noise even when they're asleep. I'll get my mother to check that book out for me, I have outrageous late fees. Thanks for the recommendation.

Oh- that mommy group from meetup.com let me join. There is a meeting at the park on the 30th but I can't go because DS has a doctor's appointment, but I started a conversation on the comment page to get a headstart on getting to know them. I hope it all goes really good. :D

Jelly, is Max gay really? I don't know much about the actor himself. More power to him. I guess he's revolted when he has to kiss Stephanie! Nick is an awkward, geeky sort of cute... but definitely cute. Geekcute! Pretty eyes.

Pacergal, what are you trying to do? I'm confused. Good luck, though. :)

Hahha, Passions. I watched some of that during the summers too. My brother especially liked it, although at 18, which he is now, he would deny it. The whole incest story line turned me off, plus it was even more campy and over the top then most soaps. Did love it as a kid though.

I dunno if Max is gay, but I watched on the news yesterday that Lindsay Lohan is dating a girl, guess she's Bi.. seems more and more people are turnig out gay, could it be cause they get sick of the opposite sex? it's understandable, LOL

Pacergal29 09-24-2008 04:13 PM

OMG they are so darn cute Brenda!!!

Mel ignore my rant, it is just part of my job that bites the big one. I work in the mortgage business doing mostly FHA loans and like everyone else the gov. has gone to those darn automated systems that take you forever to get through to a human with god awful hold times!

I'm better now though. Good luck with that bumper pad! :D

ETA: since we are on the subject who DIDN'T think Clay Aiken was gay? How nice of him to come out now and confirm what we all already knew.

JessieW 09-24-2008 04:16 PM

Awww, the twins are precious!!

Fat Melanie 09-24-2008 04:27 PM

Brenda, they're beautiful!! :D

Jellybean, from what I understand Lindsay Lohan is engaged to Samantha Ronson. I am not much of a Lindsay fan. Mean Girls was good but that's because Tina Fey wrote it. Those girls like Paris, Lindsay, etc, just annoy me.

Pacer, that sucks! Hope they answer your call soon. Thanks for the luck. :D

Clay Aiken finally came out? I admit that I thought he was absolutely 100% gay. Although I don't like to assume someone is gay just because they're effeminate, but sometimes it's really hard to not assume something as fact. I hope anyone gay lurking around the board won't hate me for that, because I know stereotypes exist and not every gay person will fit the stereotype and viceversa and it's probably annoying to gay people when people assume someone is gay.

But still. Clay Aiken! I knew it!!!

I asked this the other day. I'm looking for a good family movie for our movie night this week. It doesn't have to be animated or new, but it has to entertain a 2 and 4 year old - plus a 35 year old man who refuses to watch "kids movies" ;) Anybody have any ideas?

Have you considered Batteries Not Included, Dr. Dolittle or Racing Stripes?

Loriann7 09-24-2008 04:41 PM

Brenda, Your daughters are adorable! My mother gave birth to 13 live children, only one set of twins, and they were/are considered the better looking of all of us, though they look NOT even like they belong to our family!

BrendaS104 09-24-2008 05:24 PM

thanks... apparently I'm suppose to take the picture down now. At least that's what a couple people have PM'd me.

zeffryn 09-24-2008 05:42 PM

Maybe so there won't be problems with the kids, Brenda? Protection purposes, I would assume.

Any other reasons given?

Wow, I'm so behind on the goings on in Hollywood. I guess I care more about my life and the people around me than complete strangers that I've been told I'm supposed to care about.

weezle 09-24-2008 05:55 PM

Hi girlies! Late post today. Sorry. I slept off the last of my fever until 8:10 this morning, then had to high-tail it to work. No fever still, just the little cough thing that comes at the end of this virus. Yuck.

Worked most of the day today, but left work a little after 4. I was just plain tired. Guess my body wasn't quite ready for a full day, even though the high fever was gone.

I have a phone interview with Blue Cross Blue Shield on Tuesday. That's kind of exciting for me, as I've applied there in the past but have never gotten a call-back. I applied for a position that's technically called "Negotiator I" but Human Resources called it the "Other Party Liability Investigation" position. Sounds challenging and complicated, like a lot of paperwork and being on the phone in a cubicle. Ohhhh how I would love that!!!!!! It pays just a smidge less than I make now, but the benefits would be far better, obviously, and the hours would be set, and if someone else called off, it wouldn't be my problem! And if I chose to let it be my problem, I'd get paid time and a half instead of being expected to do it because it's my job. No more aching feet. I'd get lunch breaks. Heaven....

So say a prayer girls. The Human Resources lady made SURE to make it understood that this was just a phone interview, and that if they were interested in me after the interview, they'd call me back when they got around to it, so don't bother them with follow-up calls. Ooook. Got it.

Well, gonna make some dinner and watch a movie as a family. Hope you girls have a great night!

Lisa

EofAZ 09-24-2008 05:57 PM

So much for autumn, they are forecasting 100 degrees this weekend. Great, well we should be able to have our coffee on the patio early morning but by 9:00 am it will be getting hot.

Weezle -- A lot of people subscribe to the squeaky wheel theory and drive HR nuts trying to get extra attention. Too often it works but I just can't bring myself to do that (I spent a couple of years working in HR). Best of Luck Weezle. Next year this time I will be looking for work, they are closing the plant I work in down and we are half way through the 2 years notice they gave us. I've been here 20 years, I guess it's time for a change but boy do I have a LOT of rust to knock off my interviewing skills and my resume looks pretty sickly with only one place I worked. Perspective employers aren’t interested in what I did 20 + years ago and as one of the guys I work with mentioned. Trying to include more info just dates me which isn’t going to help me either.

BrendaS104 09-24-2008 06:00 PM

yeah... because just old anyone can read these threads.

It's no big deal.. I keep a blog and post pics there.. otherwise my parents (who are not computer savy) would never see their grandkids. It's not like I post my address or anything. Boston is a pretty big town. LOL

I know just how you feel E :) I loathe having all these cute fall clothes and not being able to wear them.

Brenda - I have a blog for my son as well....although I'm really bad at updating it...which I constantly get yelled at for. :o

JellyBean32882 09-24-2008 06:09 PM

Mel, it said on the news that Lindsay Lohan isn't engaged. That was just rumors.

This is funny, I found a song called Sittin At The Bar by Rehab and I think it's funny, my sis would like it, lol

zeffryn 09-24-2008 06:24 PM

No way! Lindsay Lohan has the rumor mill running again?! It's like she tries SO hard to stay out of the spotlight and they just continue to follow her....

"stole my heart in the trailer park..." - sounds like a winner.

BrendaS104 09-24-2008 06:29 PM

Didn't LL just announce that she's a lesbian?

hmacneil6 09-24-2008 06:30 PM

Zeff - Couple of movie suggestions.....Over the Hedge, Muppet Movie, and the Apple Dumpling Gang.

Regarding Clay Akin....the conversation I had with dh this morning

Me - Did you hear they're reporting that Clay Akin has admitted to being gay?

Dh - Are they also reporting that the sky is blue????

Made me laugh this morning

Isn't that always the thing to do when you stop being the number 1 in the spotlight?

She flashed her "girl parts" a few times...that worked for a few weeks...now she is just as pathetic as she was before...only now half the world has seen her "no-no special spot".

JellyBean32882 09-24-2008 06:38 PM

LOL I just assume all them - paris, britney, lindsay to be hollywood wrecks. they are bad girls and the younger generation wants to be just like them.

zeffryn 09-24-2008 06:49 PM

unfortunately.

I went to buy a birthday gift for a friend's daughter who is just turning 5. She is obsessed with Hannah Montana. I just couldn't buy something that cheap and skanky looking for a 5 year old. I bought her a ton of really cool craft supplies instead...She might not like it as much as a $30 set of cheap fake Hannah Montana makeup - but at least it will enrich her life a little. Give her something she can do with her parents.

JellyBean32882 09-24-2008 07:23 PM

Hannah Montana is popular.. if she has girly and not slutty type stuff I'm into it, but other than that.. cause I like girly stuff, even though I'm 26 I still like sparkle/glitter clothing, girly lamps and what not.. how can you not? LOL

ladybugnessa 09-24-2008 07:33 PM

I think the picture of you and the girls is fine. no name or address right.. it's fine.

i post pictures of my kids on photobucket.. no names...

That's great Nessa.. I've prob gained that much this week unfortunately..
