forcing myself to eat
OK, something happened to me a few weeks ago, not sure exactly what..
I used to be the kind that could get up in the morning and eat! And I'd want to eat all day! But a few weeks ago I found myself not hungry... Yesterday I really didn't eat much.. But this morning I wanted to get myself back on track, eating at regular intervals to try to get through this weight barrier. Well, I woke up late (for me anyway) at 9:30... I couldn't eat, my stomach is hard as a rock! (I woke up during hte night with sharp pains)... And couldn't eat.. But here it is 12:30 and I just fixed a nice salad with a side of milk... I'm determined to eat today, during reg. intervals... Am I the only one that is having a hard time eating now? How are you getting over this? This is something totally new to me! Not being hungry all the time... and the mere thought of food .. well... |
Sharp pains as in you need to go to the bathroom? Or sharp pains like someone's stabbing you in the stomach?
If you press hard on your stomach, does it hurt? If it persists, maybe go to a doctor and get checked out. |
Loriann, appetite suppression is common during and after Ph1, but what you describe sounds like it might be something more - sharp pains, and the thought of food turning your stomach do not sound normal to me. I think you probably want to get it checked out.
|
Like someone stabbing me.. no, it didn't hurt when I pressed on it...
My stomach is still hard.. feels uncomfortable. I did manage to eat the salad... But four weeks of not eating much, My question is ... is it really healthy to eat when your not hungry? I mean, I"m truly over four weeks have had a hard time of getting myself to eat something. Is this normal with this diet? If it persists into tomorrow I'll call my dr. Even though I have no insurance (being unemployed)... sometimes they work with me and lower the fees. (at least 10 years ago they did when I wasn't insured. |
Most cash patients can get out the door with lower fees.
While it isn't healthy to stuff your face when you aren't hungry, you should still be getting enough daily calories. Your body giving signs of hunger actually means that it is too late and your metabolism is slowing....don't wait for a growly tummy to have some food! |
Zeff, I haven't been hungry for four weeks! I'm not waiting for the growlies, I'm truly not hungry! And I have been eating, just because I know I need too... Yesterday around noon I had something for lunch, can't recall what that was, and for dinner a can of garbanzo beans (was headed to the store). but that was my entire meals for the day, and I really wasn't hungry when I ate that!
A day or two is alright I suppose, but four weeks? Thats why I'm asking! |

blessing or curse?
i dont know the answer to the not hungry question.
but i do know from hiding about and lurking but reading....you have had significant stress over the past few weeks. stress does weird stuff to us.:?: and hard, clenched stomach with no hunger sounds like me when i am really scared or worried. did you check on webmd or discoveryhealth? i love those sites for "what is this" questions. i just hope thing get easier for you! SOON! |
Nope, no diarrhea! :(... if I had I know I'd be alright! I had a nice bowel last night through the cramps.. and it was nice and hard, but not so hard I couldn't bear it! IE, it was healthy... ok, thats just tmi!!!!!!!
Mrs. Dorson... Nice to make your acquaintance... I thought of the stress factor and was hoping that'd be it... But I'm not so sure. I used to eat during stressful times! Not suppress it! |
Also might be depression, causing the low hunger.
But yeah, I'm concerned about your health, so continue to eat as much as you can, and if the doc will make a deal, get yourself checked out. |
Have you ever had an issue with your gallbladder or gallstones?
what about a colonoscopy? |
NO, I've not had those problems.
The sharp pains aren't there so much right now, but my stomach does feel hard! |
You may want to mention gallbladder issues to your GP....I talked to my neighbor (a GP) and searched online and most issues point to something concerning the gallbladder.
my neighbor said that you might want to have a hepatobiliary test. I would assume that it has something to do with the gallbladder...but don't hold me to it ;) |
i really really really would like you to see a doctor.
just a gut feeling (NO PUN intended) FOUR WEEKS is a long time... |
Women who have even vague symptoms of bloating, abdominal pain, bowel changes, trouble with urination need to be seen by a Dr. A pelvic exam & ultrasound need to be done to rule out stuff. See your Dr.
|
I've not been in pain for four weeks, the pain started last night!!!!!!!
the not eating has been four weeks! (maybe more?) when your unemployed, one day rolls into the next, and before you know it you have to check the calendar to see what day it is! |
the lack of appetite for an extended period of time concerns me.
|
Lori, maybe I'm reading your posts wrong...but we're just trying to help...
|
Zeff... I wasn't offended and sorry if my post sounded offensive! I only thought Nessa thought I had let abdominal pain go from four weeks! I was only clarifying, that is all.
So sorry all... And yes, I know you were/are helping, and I'm considering calling the dr. Right now I'm so tired I just want to sleep!!!!!!! but can't. |
I was just researching, and sometimes a rupture can cause pains.. the pain has subsided from sharp to like a cramp... you don't suppose the pain could be caused from the fall I took last night do you?
Or perhaps it's something I ate yesterday? |
Okay, reading your post Loriann, I too thought of gallbladder, and I see how others mentioned it as I continued reading.
For unknown reasons, when I was a healthy 15, I started having sharp pains and then it became progressively worse. I had horrible gallbladder attacks, which of course at the time we did not know were gallbladder attacks. The last attack had me writhing on the floor in absolute pain, so my grandmother took me to the emergency room where I was x-rayed and etc etc, and the doctors determined it was gallstones. I had to have my gallbladder removed. The doctors did not know why a healthy 15 year old had gallbladder stones, but I guess it shows that anyone can have them. Anyhow, get to a doctor ASAP, whatever it is. It can be quite dangerous if you keep on having those attacks (if it is in fact a gallbladder attack.) |
Lori - where is the pain exactly....in your ribs, below the ribs, left or right side, by the ovaries....
|
It could be your appendix, depending on where it is. Sometimes it ruptures or gets inflamed and it may not be too terribly painful.
Can you call a nurse and ask him/her? |
Lower abdomen, just right of the center, in the front.
|
Many hospitals have nurse help lines that handle these kind of questions. Maybe you have one in your area.

If it persists much longer or gets more intense....definitely get yourself to the ER....my uncle was in a coma for a month about a year ago because he ignored some piercing pains (MEN!) and it turned out to be a ruptured appendix. Not to be an alarmist or anything....please don't freak out. |
So you all think the lack of appetite has something to do with the pain?
the pain started last night, middle of the night. The loss of appetite four weeks ago or so. |

I have no idea if the appetite problem has anything to do with the pain but PLEASE call the doctor today.
|
Most people with GB disease have pain in the right upper quadrant sometimes radiating to the back, have nausea/vomiting or indigestion related to eating fatty foods and have episodes where the pain is intense. It is definitely not something to fool around with because a stone can move out of the GB and into one of the important ducts around the pancreas. There are so many things that abdominal pain could be, it's best not to guess at it and to call your doctor.
|
pain is too low for gb
if it's below belly button could be appendix if it's around belly button could be ovarian it might not have anything to do with the lack of appetite.... (anorexia) Lori, clearly we all love you and are all insanely worried about you. |
nessa, Ovarian makes sense, I had some tumors pulled from there several years ago, and was on the right side! And felt much like this one. But the dr took the tubes where they were attached!
I was gonna see if the pains subsided... sometimes I get these, though it's been months, year? |
If your tubes were removed but not your ovaries, you still can have cysts, tumors. I would go to my doctor, especially with your history.
|
could be endometriosis then....
|
Sounds EXACTLY like the pain I get from my endometriosis!! While you are on the phone with your doctor, put a heating pad on the area that hurts. That typically helps me!

I sure hope it turns out to be just bad gas or something but you really shouldn't take chances. |

Though I did notice however, that while Loriann said she was in pain, she didn't say it was the most horrific pain ever... For me, the gallbladder attacks were the worst pain I've ever felt in my life, (until I went into labor and then I found out what pain was really about). How bad is the pain, Loriann? Does it strike you all at once and hurt for awhile, and then later dissipate and go away, only to return later on? Or is it hurting constantly? With gallbladder attacks, well in my personal experience anyway, it hurts like crazy for awhile, then it dissipates only to hit you again a few days later or so. |
FWIW I had a diseased gall bladder and i had pain but my IBS cramps are much worse. everyone is diffeent.
|
I still don't know much about gallbladder stuff, I admit. I don't even know why we have a gallbladder or what it's for (doesn't it store bile or ... something? I don't remember). Mine may have been removed, but I still don't understand why I had stones or why I had such horrible attacks. I didn't know that some people have gallbladder disease and still have their gallbladder. (Doctors don't tell you anything when you're just a kid!) Just thought I would clarify, that was my own personal experience, not everyones. It was unbearable for me, but like Lady Nessa pointed out, everyone is different. (I just assumed.)
So it could still be your gallbladder, or anything, Loriann. Hope you get to a doctor ASAP and tell us what's going on. :) And hopefully everything is fine. |
the gallbladder is a little sac underneath the liver that stores and secretes bile (used in digestion). Bile is produced by the liver, so it is ok to not have one...but not having one will cause digestive tract complications.
