Default Is sauerkraut a veggie?

What would you consider sauerkraut? I love the stuff, and just had the stuff for lunch. They had a hot dog bar with all the fixin's... I saw the 'kraut, and loaded my plate with that - and nothing else.

I also got some chick peas, and broccoli from the salad bar. Not a great lunch, but at least I didn't get the hot dog, roll, and cheese sauce that I so wanted!!!!!

Definitely veggie but loaded with salt. Be prepared for a little upward blip of water weight.

Due to the high sodium content, I buy sauerkraut only rarely (out of concern for my blood pressure, not really because of weight concerns) and I always read the labels to make I am picking the one with the least amount of salt. I always put it in a strainer at home and rinse it thoroughly with water, that way, there is a bit less salt.

I know this kraut was rinsed. Didn't have enough vinegar bite to it. It just tasted like cabbage to me. But Oh well... At least I got 1 cup of veggies in by eating it

Yes, I know I'm weird. My mother and sister will eat kraut the same way - right out of the can
