Skinny Dog Mom, ty, ty, ty! That's exactly what I was trying to find out. I was just having a hard time wording it, I suppose. It's not that I wanted to leave out any juice, veggies or whatever else was written in stone - just that I wanted to wait an hour or so after early breakfast.

I think the moral of the story is you have to do what works for you. If you don't like V8 in the morning, then don't drink V8 in the morning--drink it later. There's no SBD enforcer who's going to show up and beat you up for not having veggies in the morning, and as long as you have them at some point in the day, it shouldn't affect your progress. We all make tweaks and adjustments to the plan to make it fit our personal tastes and lifestyles. I think VERY few rules are "written in stone," and those that are are just the big obvious ones (e.g., limit processed sugars, limit refined carbs, limit bad fats, etc.).Everything else is, hmm, shall we say, open to interpretation ;)

I am confused:

I ordered the new book--supercharged. I followed South Beach years ago so my memory is foggy. When I followed it I swear I was having oatmeal for breakfast and I don't remember anything about the vegetables in the morning. Is my memory faulty or has something changed???

I think I had eggs for two weeks and later I had oatmeal because it was allowed in the second phase--right??

I could just wait for my book but now I am curious. I don't like V8 but I do think it is very healthy so I might give it a whirl (if I need to).

no oatmeal in phase 1 (2 weeks) most folks do eggs. 1/2 cup of veggies or v8 is suggested at breakfast.

do NOT eat anything you do not like... find stuff you like...

heheh, if I followed this rule, I wouldn't eat any veggies--I have to force those and, therefore, very rarely get the full recommended amount (what is it, 4 or 4.5 cups per day? ha, I'm lucky if I get 2-3, and that's already a big step from where I started!). But I do agree in most cases that you shouldn't force yourself to eat anything "just because" it's part of a plan--that's a surefire way to force yourself OFF the plan in no time!

I can't eat veggies for breakfast. My morning snack around 10:00 AM is almost always veggies & hummus though.

As for the spicy V8 - I usually have it with a cheese stick. Yum!

well then dont' we have to find veggies you like?

i can not see someone sticking for life to a plan where they have to force themselves to eat what's allowed.

one of the reasons I chose SBD is due to the veggies...

Jilly - I would highly recommend that you try a new veggie recipe every week. I personally like my veggies steamed - it brings out the natural sweetness in them. My favorite is cauliflower, but I like to steam it until just after the "crunch" is out of it - about 20 minutes. It is very sweet then.
