Default Need Cool Whip substitute

I've noticed a lot of recipes call for FF Cool Whip. We don't eat it -- it's full of Trans Fats.

Is there anything else we can use? Normally I whip my own cream and put a little SF DaVinci syrup in it. Not low fat, but not full of trans fats. Guess it's a pick your poison. LOL

Help?

I think you can whip evaporated skim milk. Maybe Google will help.
I am with you on Cool Whip!

FF Cool Whip has no fat at all. It is loaded with chemicals however.

If you read the ingredients on FF Cool Whip, it actually contains hydrogenated oil. It just doesn't have a high enough amount that it has to claim it on the nutritional label...

I think the idea with the Cool Whip is that as long as you stick with the serving size, it's a minimal amount of both trans fats and sugar. I did find that the Wal*Mart brand version of the FF Cool Whip had some slightly better ingredients (or maybe a better mix of them?).

You can always make your own with whipping cream and splenda/SF syrups, as you've been doing. If you freeze it, however, it tends to become pretty hard, and it doesn't last too long in the fridge. I don't remember what's in Whip It, but it's a whipping cream stablizer that might help you keep some in the fridge for longer.

Sounds kind of weird, I guess, but what about using FF sour cream with splenda? I used to eat strawberries with sugar and sour cream when I was a kid and it's totally delicious!

What I use is my stick blender and use either skim or 1% and make a 'foam'. Not great for cooking, but as a topping, it's great! Nothing but air and a little flavor.

You can try making a foam and using gelatin to stabilize it. I've personally never done it, but I don't see why a little jell-o and some milk wouldn't whip up nicely, and set up. AND then you could get different flavors, and colors (if you need it for a 'fancy' desert)

Good luck!

You could try the following recipe... I just found it so I haven't had a chance to try it out yet but if it works, it's great!
================================

WHIPPED TOPPING (Whipped Cream Substitute)
If you use a powdered low-calorie sweetener or sugar substitute, add it with the skim milk powder.

1/2 cup ice cold water
3/4 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 cup instant skim milk powder
11/2 tsps. liquid sweetener (or more to taste)
1/2 tsp. vanilla (or more to taste)
In a small bowl, combine water and lemon juice. Add milk powder. Using electric mixer, beat on low speed to moisten, then beat at high speed until light and fluffy (you can hold a tea towel over everything to avoid splattering). Beat in sweetener and vanilla.
Makes about 3 cups.

That;s the one I was trying to remember! My Aunt Rose used to make it all the time using powdered milk. Thanks.

Cool! I'll have to give it a try. I still have powdered skim milk from when I'd make my own yogurt.
